Event Chest Reward

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Morrigan.2809

I have never gotten a rare from a chest, any rare, any chest.
The best I get is the occasional green.
Last time I killed the Shadow Behemoth I got 4 greens and I was so shocked I did a little dance.
The only rares I’ve gotten have been off random trash mobs, once I even got an exotic off a mosquito- man i was hunting mosquito’s there for a while!

I understand that if chests dropped rares and exotics they would be farmed to oblivion but really hard/long events chains like meta’s and Temple events should at least have a higher drop rate to be on par with the time invested and difficulty of the fight.

I loved Tybalt and I love Sierren- I have purposely not done claw Island on my priory character because I know what will happen.
I have a second character in Whispers now and it was such a happy shock to me to see Tybalt alive and well and full of jokes as ever- yeah, no claw island for that story either.

After Tybalt died I went into a fury and started hunting risen- to this day I love Orr just so I can kill more Risen. If I could wipe all of them off the map permanently I would rejoice and build a statue in LA for the fallen Order companions.

Trahearne is a disappointment- he makes more sense if you play as a Sylvari but he is just so bland and useless….

Im sorry but I really dosnt understand the “no end game” debate.
I for instance have as my “Ultimate” goal to own all named items in the game, a huuuuuge goal, and not one I even expect to finish.., but its a goal.

So how is my end game different from for instance WoW´s?
I never played WoW, L2 player here, but I hear many end game debates using WoWs raids as exampel of end game.

If I understand right you have to do Dungeon Raids to be able to have chance on loot drops for a set armour that when complet lets you advance to the next dungeon raid, and hope fully never be “done”, is this correct?

Now look at my goal.
Its the same, BUT! I can choose exactly how I whish to advance towards my goal, and do it differently every day I logg in.
One day I might run acouple of dungeons for tokens to be able to salvage and get ectos to sell to by an item for BLTP.
Antoher day I might do some jumping puzzels to have a chance on an item in a grand chest.
If I have my daughter in my lap I might just go out farm some materials to craft a mystic forge named weapon.

So again, is “end game” only end game if the developers tells people it is and force them to play it a certain way?

Why the hate on, invent your own end game, why do you need to have someone tell you what and how to “grind”?

I dont even go for my “end game” everytime, its just one goal. Sometimes I just feel like playing PvP, and I do that, or help a guildie and I do that…

Is it any more out there that feels like this, or am I just the only very sattisfied customer of this game as a MMO?

I Love the freedome of choice, maybe this game isnt for religios people, Ive heard that they kind of need to be told what to do and belive

/peace out and happy hunting!

You are not alone.
I certainly create my own goals and end game too and I’m sure there are others out there- I am just not sure if they even visit the forums much less post on it.

One of the things I like doing is looking for Final rest- I just love the mystery of it.
So I check the likely bosses and events as often as I can and keep my eyes open for more clues.

I really like some of the named weapons too and am slowly working to acquire the perfect match to all my characters.
So far my main is complete but I don’t even have my alts at 80 yet (3 are in the 50’s) and I haven’t even decided what I want for them. Still looking for that perfect match

I also have an obsession with caves and love exploring them, I have found really awesome ones. When I see a mountain I try to climb it

I ran into some RP people the other day and joined them in a mad quest for a splendid chest that lasted 1:30 min and had me empty my bags 3 times ( that has never happened btw) It was awesome fun and all my deaths were hilarious.

There is so much to do in this game for me that I don’t feel bored at all- I really don’t get the endgame argument either- It seems so limiting.
I am also so contrary that if they brought out content today and stuck a sticker on it that said “Endgame- do when you are 80” I would probably ignore it and never bother. :0

I don’t know, I like going for achievements. There are plenty of them. It’s fun. It’s like a giant scavenger hunt.

Or, get this, make another character, turn off your map markers and try to complete zones with no zone completion icons on your map. That’s fun too. And HARD. lol

Artificially creating difficulty in a game to offset it’s lack of challenge in a type of content that is “subjectively” fun?

Seriously, stop reaching at straws.

If making our own fun was intended, they’d have offered up more tools for us to do so, I’m not all “doom n gloom” but the desperate covering of this games shortcomings instead of honest to goodness feedback, is irritating to say the least and I can sometimes sympathize with the ones that get nasty towards it.

I like the endgame in GW2 very much… because they give me the freedom to make my own and use the entire game world to do it.

In other words… they want you to play your way… not lead you around by the nose.

This is pretty much my end game too- I do what ever I feel like doing at the time.
When my alts are 80 I can do that with any class I choose.
Now, I log into whoever I feel like- I normally play 2-3 of my characters a day and just let the game take me where it wants.
I love the freedom of it.
But this kind of play-style is not for everyone, especially people who need a specific goal

So your argument is that if this game is treated like second life with a bit more action, then it’s fine? :/

Goals are part and parcel of all games. Remove them without giving enough sandbox elements to make up for it and you essentially create a bad simulation.

Second Life? lol- I have a real life thank you and GW2 is a game to me not my life or a job.

I am a grown-up and I don’t expect to be entertained while I sit passively by and be spoon fed.
So I like to create my own goals.

I am sorry you don’t like what I do with my game time but I am enjoying myself while you clearly are not.

My suggestion to the OP stands-
If you like creating your own goals- this game is perfect for it.
It is an incredibly rich virtual world with so many cool things hidden away if you just look.

There was never really a then and now for my Guardian.

I saw a look that I wanted badly. At around level 10 when I had saved enough Karma, I made the trek to Orr all by my lonesome. It was a little game I made for myself, trying to get to those vendors without getting one-shot. Aegis helped out quite a bit. It turned out to be quite a fun challenge! You would be shocked at how far the aggro range can be if you are 70 levels under the enemy.

This has been my Guardian’s look since around level 10, and I love it to this day!

What do you want in the Gem Shop?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Morrigan.2809

Game Content in gem store would be bad idea, but an overall expansion~ now I’m curious. You can buy the Digital Deluxe version with gems, I wonder if we’re going to be able to buy entire expansions with gems? Wouldn’t be much difference than ordering it digitally from site, except you could use gold to fund it. O_o

I doubt it. Too many people would trade gold for gems instead of paying $$ for the expansion (in part or full), limiting the profit the expansion would make.

I’m not so sure about that-
I think the average player does not necessarily have enough gold to do that and would like their gold to be used for things in game- especially if a new expansion comes out you would need funds-
same goes for gems really- people might hang on to the gems they have, to see what new things are available / or to keep for holidays.

Sure some people would do it but I don’t think it would be enough to matter.

Also it would be a very very good PR move to do that in addition to box sales and may even draw people to the game.
I am very interested to see what they do.

Mounts? What on earth?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Morrigan.2809

GW2 doesn’t need mounts

Of course GW2 doesn’t need mounts.

GW2 doesn’t need mini-pets, either. Or jumping puzzles. Or chickens. It doesn’t need various weapon skins. It doesn’t need more than one profession or one weapon or one zone. It doesn’t doesn’t need mountains or lakes or rivers or hills or trees or clouds in the sky or day and night cycles. It doesn’t even need to exist. But if it didn’t we wouldn’t be here discussing whether it needs mounts.

It’s not a question of need. The things I mentioned in the previous paragraph – why are they in the game?

Because those are the things that make up this game?
Without them you would be sitting in one instance with your one weapon fighting one rat over and over.
Seriously, the game works fine without mounts- it is not a game breaking lack,
I consider them a pain even when you have one.

OP the beauty of this game is that when you are 80 the entire game is open before you not just 3 maps- I have been 80 for a long time and I certainly don’t feel forced to live in Orr.

The downscaling works very well and is even still too forgiving for my tastes, you get your own level drops in lower lvls so why do you feel that you can only play in an 80 zone?

I do understand that you want more lvl 80 content- I’m sure we all do, just as I’m sure we will get it as the game matures.

Stop thinking of the number 80 and just play what/where you enjoy.

Is it really hard to add dueling?

in Suggestions

Posted by: Morrigan.2809

Morrigan.2809

I’ve played many games that allowed unrestricted challenge dueling. In all cases, it was a very, very thin slice of the population. Most times the serious PvP people I knew laughed at it, or dueled privately solely to check builds.

In my experience, this small population of “dewlists” had a core group that enjoyed being as annoying as they possibly could. Sometimes not actually dueling, in SWG it was popular to duel with level 1 launcher pistols, which generated insane amounts of lag, were used solely to produce that lag, and never damage each other.. Sometimes enough would get in on the act to actually cause zone crashes.

Roleplayers and people just attempting to converse were prime targets. If you asked the duelists to just move… you ended up with 6 of their guildies showing up to duel on top of you as well. Any minor difference in opinion led to the “yah, dewl meh, then” followed by the usual epithets and cat calling if someone declined to.

People will duel in any area, unconcerned of anyone else there. I don’t want this at the Trading Post, Bank, Crafting area, etc. I don’t want it in towns, period.

If it is indeed such a valuable pastime, surely it would not be an imposition to travel to a dueling venue. Make it have a free WP even.

And even if it comes in, never, ever establish KvDs, Leaderboards, track numbers in any way. Dueling kill counts and KvDs are the most cheesed statistic, in any game that tracks numbers and allows unrestricted open world dueling. Too many places to hide and exploit.

GW1 never allowed it except in Guild halls. I think it was a wise decision then, and a model to be followed IF they allow it here.

I don’t get the lack of compromise. Dueling in a venue would allow dueling, and still show some respect for people who feel it has no place in towns, banks, craft areas, etc.
But, I guess its “let me dewl anywhere, anytime, I don’t care if it annoys people, they can log if they don’t like it”

Oh thank you!
I wish you could hear me clapping
very well said.

The game was marketed and sold a s a game who respects the fact that you have real life commitments and as such you can choose how to play.

Well that is not this game anymore, with FotM (agony) and all these speedruns that they don’t want to change.

It is exactly that game- I don’t agree with FoTM but it hasn’t changed the way I play at all no-one is forcing me to do Fractals and I don’t.

Anet is not responsible for speed- runs players are.

Why GW2 promotes selfish gameplay

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Morrigan.2809

Morrigan.2809

…more than elitists.

The problem is exacerbated when Guild Wars 2 or related media positions this game to be all about playing the way YOU want it and further cemented by long time carebears. Some of you have probably run dungeons with really nice people whom you thought probably grew marshmallows out of their ears if you ever met them in person. Along the way, their child would cry, or the postman would come, or silly mistakes which you probably overcame on your second run but they still fall victim even though they have over 4000 achievement points (an inaccurate reference but it is something we inevitably draw a conclusion about a player’s “experience” with the game). Then the run takes 3 times longer than it should have. There is a point when a relaxed pace turns into a waste of time.

You see, when an elitist culture is set in, your feelings are hurt, but nobody’s time gets wasted. But when someone stubbornly convinced it’s all about him, nevermind playing the better way, other people has to pay for his mistakes. See the contrast?

Point? This game has gone down the gutter coaster too much in the direction of “I play it my way”. It’s true I can choose not to pug, on the otherhand, I’m not alone on this yearning for a little less anonymity of who we invite to the party when we’re pugging.

So really, who’s the selfish one?

The game was marketed and sold a s a game who respects the fact that you have real life commitments and as such you can choose how to play.
This is not news.

it is a game- if you take it so seriously that you feel your time is wasted by playing with people who play for fun and giggles then don’t- you sound pretty selfish here actually.

You are free to create your own parties with your own requirements- the game is not going down the gutter because other people don’t play the way you want.

To do it with rainbows is an entirely different level of annoying that all thieves aspire to reach.

I have to agree with this
also all the shadowy assassin type thieves dressed in Abyss just need a rainbow bow :P

Tell me one good reason why, there are already plenty of pretty reasonable reasons on this thread, why not to ad inspection

I am against inspect- it is no-one’s business what gear I choose to run with my build, it works for me and that is all that matters.

there exactly is your problem, that attitude is a complete fail and i would not hesitate not inviting or even kicking you from a dungeon group because of it. When you do Group content, you and your build have to work for/with the group, and not for you.

EVERYONE should be able to play the way they want? Yet most of you dont agree when others want to do speedruns, be elitist, or just like numbers, because thats not the playstyle YOU want them to play?

when I say it works for me, I mean I play my class and my build well.
My main is a condition mesmer, with carrion gear/ necro runes and sigils of corruption.
I know how popular that is in the world of DPS.
I play it well and I enjoy it.

I also have a DPS Mesmer that I don’t enjoy as much and I’m less effective playing her.
In addition I have a d/d Ele, a Thief and an fairly high DPS Engi- but that is completely besides the point.

I agree that you need to work for/ with a group if you are in a group-

I don’t agree that I have to have my gear inspected so someone who doesn’t play my character can tell me they don’t like it.
But you know- it is all good you won’t invite me and I won’t party with you so it all works out.

As for speed runs and the like- it is up to the person making the group to decide the purpose of the group and I have no problem with it.

I do find the idea of maximum efficiency rather laughable when applied to a game and not real life, especially since people take it so seriously.

Ok OP-
Delete your Sylvari then if you don’t like the new sound.
Personally I don’t know what the old or new sound, sounds like because I’ve never noticed.
If you dislike it that much, delete your char.
I don’t understand why you are raging about it- do you want it changed back?
Surely that couldn’t have been the only thing you liked about the race?
Btw my Sylvari is not a “human dressed as a tree”- the Sylvari are a very strange and unique race, they are very alien in many many ways.
