The only thing I would change is if the enemy moved out of a radius the attack would stop, otherwise this skill is fine the way it is.

Playing against it I didn’t have problems after I learned how to fight it. The skill loses its attack power dramatically when even one other person is nearby. Rangers, Mesmers and partly Necromancers will almost always have an ally to split the damage.

This skill stops when you go into stealth, unlike other channeled projectiles from Ranger longbow, or warrior killshot.

Because this skill teleports to the target at the end can be used to your advantage. You can target the Revenant, evade/teleport/run back to teammates, cc and kill. Even if they manage to get away they will still be targeted. Any bursty Revenant trying to capitalize on the damage potential of UA will not survive combined team pressure, because they can’t drop target status like a Thief or Mesmer.

Lastly, if a UA focused Revenant uses Glint/Shiro (which I feel will be used for this) they will be utterly hard countered by conditions as there is no way to remove them.

Then it cant do its job of catching high mobility targets that can just leave a fight when ever they want with 0 issues. The skill is very much so needed to be able to catch fleeing targets. Every class/build needs a counter. Having the luxury to disengage with no effort given has been left alone for too long. It needs to stick or its useless.

Did you just say Deathshroud is just another healthbar? Wow…. You just discredited yourself with that alone.

Also, you’ve got some other misinformation in there too. I’d suggest rethinking some of your claims.

Oh no, not my forum cred! How will I ever grow to be a big respected forum thug if the little thugs don’t think I be keepin’ it real? Look, this is the Revenant forum. Its about to be the new Most Played Class in the Game, and a lot of people want it to be as strong as possible. No one coming here and saying “i think this revenant skill should have more counters in PvP”, no matter how polite they are, is going to expect any kind of nice treatment or respect. I’m not worried about it.

Deathshroud functions much like a healthbar. Necros typically dont die until they have exhausted both life force and health. You don’t stop DPS’ing a necro when he shrouds, because damage taken in DS is still real damage and reduces his life force total.
Deathshroud is not a counter to taking damage, its a mitigation.

I’m happy to discuss other falsehoods you believe i made, or parallels that aren’t clear, but quoting someone and saying “theres misinformation here” without pointing it out isnt constructive. constructive would be discussing ways the skill could be adjusted to be more effectively countered, or debating why those ways arent good, or putting forth a comparison to other skills which function similar and also dont have a counter.

You can literally take a UAing Revenant as your hostage to your team. Thats if you some how failed to interrupt the 3/4 second cast time. Or if you didnt dodge or use a block to negate dmg while being UAed. Your argument about UA being a special snowflake and you not being forced to use your utilities compared to other skills is silly. I really hope you use your utilities when you are hit by the many burst skills, some of which can cleave for full dmg on all targets hit.

UA’s dmg dies if it hits more than one person. You shouldn’t be asking for straight out nerfs if you feel like it should be changed based on 1v1ns. In group play the skill is only good as an evade, might stack, and very minor damage. It’s meant to be used on one person. Like someone who strays from the group to get assassinated or a low hp/no CD target.

There are so many obvious counters to UA that it seems really sad. Most of the people don’t even know what it does but are ready for it to be nerfed. I had so many players in pvp rage but they didn’t spend a single second thinking how obvious it was. The pause from the after cast can be punished so harshly but most of the people don’t notice it since its still a new skill.

People get overwhelmed by something they don’t understand and speak out before giving time to fully see for what it is. The skill is finally in a good place and any nerfs to it would slaughter it completely.

@nearlight- Oh alright I guess I’m being too harsh on it because I didn’t get enough time to fully test it out with a full condition build.

@Lonewolf Kai- It’s mostly a pvp only type of fix since it can be used so often along with our other evade and our dodges. In wvw/pve it seems fine but in pvp its up way too often.
I think it needs some type of minor damage increase for hitting more targets. Like 1-3% for every new target hit for pve/wvw only.

@nearlight- I was just brainstorming but yours sounds better and actually seems like what a GM trait should be like. As for Dismantle Fortifications it could be ’’too’’ good to use with Jade Winds.

@xarallei- That suggestion was more for pvp than wvw/pve because in pvp you can use it too often. For pve its fine as is but I think it could use a dmg booster for pve ONLY. The hammer 2 suggestion was mostly for wvw because you can hit really kitten grouped up players. In PvP its fine as is since the area of fighting tends to be small and you can only use it at a select few spaces for the longest range damage.

@Saint Jabberwocky- I agree about Facet of Chaos. I rarely used it and only used that to activate Release. You have to give up your energy regen to keep it going which hinders Revenant very much. At -4 seems good because then you can regen some energy while still applying protection.

Also, I almost forgot how buggy Coalescence of Ruin is at an elevation and same with Phase Smash. You can’t use both of these if you are on a wall or a bit high set of stairs. So added those along the hammer feedback just to keep things organized >.>

Much to your dismay, Revenant’s do need a weakness.

Should add minior buffs to the places we have access to it from atm. Like legend swap clears 2 instead of one and staff 4 can be used on the go? The animation stuck for staff 4 really hinders the use of it in a fight

Now it’s AA that is op? I’ve heard it all. UA is op, hammer is op, glint heal is op, rev condi is op, now sword aa is op. Pvpers just want the class gutted at this point. AA was buffed because last beta it was mediocre. It does not need a nerf. The class is in a good place for pve. There are ways to address these issues without ruining the class.

A lot of people just say something is OP when they don’t fully understand it. I think Azure understands it but he’s just saying you cant run away or anything if you spend dodges on UA because the Rev can just train you with autos.

BUT! You can burst the Rev for so much right when they come out of UA and have to deal with after cast. I took a 15k evi to the face after UA from a zerk war in one of my test runs in wvw.

I really hope they change some of the bland GM traits for some condi removal on X amount of energy usage

Yeah exactly and I think we need to be careful to avoid repeating the warrior mistake with cleansing ire/brawlers recovery and not over buff receive any condi cleanse to the point where an originally condi weak class gained the capability to make themselves and their allies immune to conditions altogether (see shoutbow during cele meta).

I honestly think that the only changes we need are to have cleansing channel cure 2 conditions instead of 1, and to give retribution/salvation a way of managing conditions through traits in a way that’s manageable but not completely to the extreme. Transmute and alchemical tinctures in the Engi’s alchemy line are a good example of balanced condition removal that retains the weakness to conditions but provides enough room for counterplay in your build that you aren’t 100% hardcoubtered by stray rings of fire strewn about the battlefield.

Devastation could use one as well. It shouldn’t be spammed on the class just a touch here and there for a good amount of access to keep things fun.

Every class has multiple ways to deal with UA. If you lower the power and put it on the end then ppl can just walk around and dodge the last hit without a worry.

That simply is not true. Hard counters atm are:

1) Shock aura. Ele dagger only.
2) Mes torch 4.
3) War shield, only works if no phase traversal from rev.
4) Long evades: Mes blurred frenzy, pistol whip, ranger 1h sword

That is the smallest set of counters for any ability out there. If the OP’s suggestion of ramping damage was used, mitagation via late dodge would be more reasonable, or if the evade didnt last the whole duration, interrupts would function as counters.

engi invis/block/elixir
warrior shield stance/endure pain/whirlwind into dodge full negate
Guardian Renewed focus, shelter, aegis into evade/focus 5
thief stealth/evade skills
necro deathshroud/plauge form
mesmer invis/blurred frenzy/shatter 4
ranger many evades/ signet of stone/ protect me
ele mist form, focus invulns evade on dagger 3 in fire and air 5 into a dodge/arcane shield.

Now before you tell me why you would use any of these for a 10s CD skill…
Let me ask you will you just stand there and take any of the following low cd multi hit dmg skills for free?
Ranger rapid fire
warrior HB
mesmer blurred frenzy
thief pistol whip
guardian whirling wrath

You can easily interrupt the ability within its 3/4 cat with its super obvious eviscerate animation, at the start of the ability. You can also troll the Revenant by taking it to your team while he is in UA to kitten him with no remorse.

Also lets not forget the after cast time where you can get damaged very badly unless you spend energy to cast a skill to save you or use a dodge.

Weapons
Our weapon pool seems very small but its not too bad. Just hard to put together different builds.

Hammer- The evade gave the hammer a much needed missing component. It’s a great ranged weapon but as soon as the enemy closes the gap you either have to use a lot of energy to kite or switch weapons entirely. Drop the hammer seems to be bugged because it shows an extra animation of the hammer dropping right after the first. Coalescence of Ruin should be increased to 3 or 4 seconds because it can hit really hard at max range and each impact can hit 5 players separately if spread out enough.

(Elevation bug out Coalescence of Ruin very easily and a steeper elevation can cause Phase Smash to bug out as well)

Staff- Is in a pretty decent place but could be better if changes are made to the 2 and 4 skill. Punishing sweep’s cast time is really slow and the Debilitating slam is even slower. It’s really hard to interrupt any skill with the daze because of the 1 second cast time. Renewing wave needs an animation change to the banner 3 skill for warrior. As of now if you use renewing wave within a fight you can take brutal damage. It doesn’t give you what you give up by using it at the moment. Should really be able to use it on the move.

Sword- Precision strike is very hard to land. I’m not sure if its the weird animation or the projectile but it misses a lot. Duelist’s prepartion/Shackling Wave costs 20 energy all together if both parts are used which is fine but the issue is the shackling wave is very hard to land since 300 range. Grasping Shadow needs a little jump to help it land better because it can be missed pretty easily. Grasping Shadow also bugged out a lot and did not pull my target with to me.

Unrelenting Assault- is great now but I think the cooldown should be increased to 15 seconds so it can’t be used too often. It’s damage dies if you hit more than one player with it but you can use it defensively/to build up might. It can be countered really easily because if you use it on a thief or a mesmer then they can take you with them to their team. So you have to be really careful when using it. It can also be dodged while its being casted to avoid a lot of the damage. It can be interrupted and stopped very easily because of the 3/4 cast time.

(Can still randomly teleport you around if used near a wall or gate in WvW. Not sure of pvp)

Shield- Envoy is pretty good with nice healing and protection. Crystal Hibernation is pretty neat but bugged as many have said. One cripple and you get stunned. Also I think the tooltip should let you know that you will be stunned if the defiance bar is taken out(to help new players)

Axe- Frigid Blitz hits pretty hard and shadow steps you. Helps out a lot to stick to targets if you aren’t running Shiro. It’s cooldown should be increased to 15 seconds because of its utility. Temporal Rift is a bit hard to land because the big red rift is very obvious so it could use a little bigger pull width or a smaller pause before pulling.

Mace- Has 3 different conditions and 2 sources of torment on its own. Echoing Eruption is a bit hard to hit because of that leap forward before the attack is applied. It mostly seems to be just used to stack the might or hit a target that cant move. Can miss really easily at range.

[Class Issues]
It felt a bit underwhelming at some points playing as a Revenant. Our intended issue that we can’t deal with too well(conditions) is pretty evil to fight against. Our access to condi removal is very spread out and we have to use either sigil of generosity, purity, or cleansing. I was running Shiro/Glint and was using staff along with shield. You can manage some what with conditions with that but outside of mallyx you will have a tough time. Shiro has 0 access to condi removal unless you give up options(food/runes/sigil/invocation trait).

We also don’t handle CC spam outside of the retribution spec line or Jalis. Do note however you have access to stun breakers on Shiro, Jalis, and Glint but use very carefully and manage energy efficiently or you can get trained really easily.

Over All
The Class is super super SUPER FUN! Besides its issues and bugs the class is really active and rewards you very well if you can manage your energy. The combo potential Revenant has make it very entertaining. I really enjoyed keeping a track of my cooldowns and energy. I really love the super active aspect of the class because the momentum it keeps is all in your control. You have to think a lot and use every skill wisely. Fighting against players that knew what the Revenant was capable of was a lot of fun(aside of some of the negatives that affect certain areas of the class)

Thank you Roy for the amazing experience. I truly hope the class doesn’t get butchered because its something really fresh for Gw2 and has made the game very interesting. Its equally fun to fight against one as any one of the previous classes.

Traits/Specializations
There are a lot of stale and bad grand master traits. A good number of the traits need to be moved around. The lines I didn’t discuss seemed fine to me. (Again sorry Ventari players I didn’t have time to test the spec line either)

Devastation- Assassin’s presence should be switched to master tier like every other party buff trait. Dismantle Fortifications seems a bit weak. We don’t have much CC, unless we give up things for it. So it should be changed up a bit. I don’t have many ideas for this other than removing it and replacing it with something better altogether so let me know your ideas.

Corruption- Replenishing Despair in the adept trait line seems very weak and the healing power scaling is slim. Pulsating Pestilence’s trigger chance is very low. I think it should be 20-25% at a 20 second cooldown.

Invocation- Has access to a condition removal which is very hard to come by as a Revenant. Also gain access to a stun breaker on legend switch which is another big weakness of Revenant. A very versatile specialization line that can be put into multiple builds which is really great.

Herald- The adept traits seem pretty bland unless you go for a support build(Which is why Herald was made, I know). I basically see Herald as a much needed line to ’’support’’ your other legend because it gives you access to Glint. Enhanced Bulwark seems pretty underwhelming for a grand master trait. It should either be reworked or removed because it only works with one trait line/legend that gives us access to our only stability on the class. Stability access from other players still make the ability seem weak for a grand master.

[IMPORTANT] Before we start, those of you that don’t know what rev skills do please take some time to look through them on this site: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vlAQBAA

I will discuss the majority of the stuff I tested( Sorry anyone looking for Venatri stuff here, didn’t have time since work). Also I didn’t test this in pve. The majority of the time spent testing was in wvw group fights, solo roaming in wvw, unranked, ranked pvp matches, and duels. I would also like to add I did not have enough time to fully test out condition Mallyx. I will do another nolife test next beta weekend for Ventari/Mallyx builds and pve stuff as a Revenant too.

Legendary Stances:

Shiro
You basically have to make every utility count and can’t make many mistakes. The closest thing I can compare it to is an S/D thief because of the mobility and evades. If you use the utilities wrongfully or spam Riposting Shadows and Phase Traversal then you can be killed very easily since your energy bar will die.

Enchanted Daggers- You have to stick to your target while using this to grab the healing or it can be negated very easily.

Phase Traversal- If you spam it to get to someone you will have to switch legends otherwise you will get destroyed since zero energy. Good to catch low health runners for a finish. Energy cost is fair for what we get and it will punish spammers heavily.

Jade Winds- A lot of revs could not use this skill effectively because to use elites on rev, you are required to have a good sense of energy management. If you miss this then you are forced to switch legends or waste your dodges. Very balanced for the trade offs.

Jalis
The costs of Jalis are high to prevent spamming and made me feel very uncomfortable. The buff to Vengeful Hammers was needed and they are in a great spot now. Jalis gives us access to a condi removal and stab along with % dmg decreases. It would be nice if Forced Engagement was 40 energy instead of 50 because 50 seems a bit too high for what it does. I really had to think hard before using it because you give up too much for what you’re getting.

Mallyx
Our big answer to condis. If you aren’t running Mallyx then you are going to have a very tough time dealing with conditions. Out of Mallyx we have one condition removal on the Jalis heal, one in traits, and one on staff 4. We lack condition removal really badly and it really reminds me of warrior 2012(war had laughable condi removal and wasn’t used at all for a good time period after release). Mallyx also has no stun breakers so you have to be really careful with your positioning. You have no answers to being stun spammed unless you have the stun breaker trait on legend switch.

Unyielding Anguish- A lot of people that I fought were astonished to find out that this skill doesn’t care for stability. I think it’s fine how it is because 35 energy is a big hit to the energy. You can still be hit and damaged really harshly by ranged pressure if you try to use it as a ’’safe’’ area.

Glint
The very needed stance to give Rev a fighting chance. Sure you can become a walking banner but your energy regen takes huge hits and limits you to thinking very very carefully on how you use your weapon skills.

Infuse Light- This skill needs a bigger activation animation. Nothing over the top but something good enough to give the enemy a valid tell so they don’t fully heal you since its an instant cast.

Facet of Darkness/Gaze of Darkness- Great skill but I think it’s cooldown should be moved to 25 seconds. The active is a stunbreaker/reveal/and a blind so it should honestly have a 25 second cooldown time to keep it in line.

Facet of Elements- Good skill idea and will be tough to add in to rotations when people realize what it does. A lot of players stood in it without knowing what it does and it can hurt. Also I received a lot of reports from people I fought that visual of the skill made them lag. Im not sure if its a real issue or the people were playing on potatoes but it should be looked into, just in case.

Facet of Strength/Burst of Strength- A fine skill that you have to be patient with for the might to get stacking. The active part is hard to hit but the payoff is worth it. Does some nice damage as well.

Facet of Chaos/Chaotic Release- The passive upkeep is nice but you give up energy regen so have to be really careful when to keep it running. The active has a very obvious skill animation and a long cast time. I only used this to knock someone away from ressing a player or the downed player themselves. Using it in a fight requires a bit of finesse. Also made many of the players I fought against experience lag so you could really ’’chill’’ them. Should be looked into if any issues that cause it to drop peoples fps.

Why are so many people trying to foolishly cry for nerfs on a skill by basing it on 1v1ns? The game in its entirety has NEVER been about 1v1ns.

UA loses so much dmg if it hits more than one target. There are so many counters to every single rev skill. The rev is so kitten weak its just most of the players don’t know what it does.

I first fought some guildies who didnt know what rev skills did. Once I explained to them what the skills did and how to counter, it became such an uphill battle for me.

In pvp lobbies a lot of players shouted op without even knowing what the skill did. Give it more time so people can learn rev skills. Then you will see how weak and in a bad place the rev is.

You can interrupt/blind/stealth to cancel the skill. You can also evade most of the dmg by dodging right after the first hit. You can also teleport the rev thats stuck on you into your whole team to make it 1v5. You can literally DRAG A REV in its UA to your team. The skill can be countered so easily its sad.

It counterproductive to use this skill a lot of the time because it puts you in harms way.

The skill doesn’t need a nerf because if there is more than one person then the dmg dies and you are basically using it defensively. The game is never balanced around 1v1ns so getting hit with UA in a 1v1 is doing what its intended to do. If you move the dmg to the last hit like warrior HB then it wont do anything if there is more than one person. Even a pet or a summon drop this skills dmg very harshly on a single target.

So please reconsider because there are so many ways to counter/avoid the skill atm. A lot of people just don’t know what a lot of rev skills do. I played rev since friday and I have 35 hours on my rev. They have many issues and need buffs in some places. Once people start knowing what revs do you will see how much these weaknesses will show. Sword is the only weapon that doesn’t need buffing/nerfing, it just needs some bug fixes.

I would fully accept this fact if they allowed you to transmute armor from any class weight. Lore can suck it, and clipping can suck it too because a lot of armor in the same weight class already clips.

Yeah I agree. There is so much clipping on most of the armor sets for that to be invalid really.

It recently went up because of the sales. I came back last friday and 500 gems were around 80-90g I think. Just give it time I guess. It should come back down slowly after the sales end.

guild wars just lost a long time customer for making this game free to play and placing restrictions on accounts, i have played this for 3 years your vets are getting the shaft in this free to play game

Not really getting shafted since there are a lot of restrictions. Just hope the 2 communities don’t collide in a superiority complex.

It isn’t redundant, as HoT purchasers are also getting the core game with no restrictions, whereas free players still have restrictions on the core game.

but whats the point if they already have an account. If they are getting the expac then the expac upgrade goes through the core game has no meaning.

So getting the core game with HoT seems kind of redundant now doesn’kitten That takes more value of the $50 as we aren’t really getting anything extra but a char slot. I don’t know if this was thought through.

I just hope all the outfits released so far become armor sets as well so not all is lost.

why out fit. I crie evry tiem i see outfit. Why no moar armor.

outfits are bad. They go away from what the game is about which is being creative with your look.

Anyone else having severe issues using the TP? I can’t seem to sell because the price thing is being random. Is this a bug? I can’t enter text to change price on what i’m selling/buying. It’s getting pretty annoying >.>

Content would be nice.

Wait, you meant that 4pve maps, 1 wxw map and 1 new pvp map is not enough for 50 bucks?

Well, I agree.

Those 4 pve maps equal 2 regular pve maps. Its like the tiny season 2 story maps. Its a sham.

A reason to push HoT release soon (Archeage)

I would be more afraid of wow’s new expac tbh… but any ways rushing only causes more problems. Blizzard had an expac last year with way more stuff then what they have showed us for HoT at the same price. Now they announced legion which should be coming out some time next year and it already seems to have way more than what we have been shown for this expac.

I really hope they aren’t milking the game for money after 3 years of meh. Maybe HoT will have as much stuff as most mmos release for an expac so its worth that $50.

They should take their time with HoT and give it more things because so far what we have seen isnt $50 material. Its more like $25-30. Anyways we should know soon enough I suppose.

The new Lions arch feels a bit too spacious. It feels really empty at certain places but over all I do like the art style of this along with the older gw2 art style.

Zerker doing damage is ok, condi isnt?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mosharn.8357

Mosharn.8357

I think its because against power your hp/armor stats actually matter. Where as condi don’t give a kitten. You have to do active things to remove condis and if your stuff is on cd you can’t do anything about it. With power builds you can at least negate some damage.

Either way they should make condi work on 3 different stats rather than just one alone. Power builds require 3 things to do damage well. Condi just needs condi dmg. You can have a tiny bit of duration but still do the dmg.

I don’t know much since I haven’t played in a long while but I think it seems condi meta is even worse now. Rip.

Still waiting on the day where both power and condi builds are on even footing.

Is there a way i can refund my specialization points. Like before with traits you could refund all traits then start your build over from a clean slate. I don’t know if that is possible here.

It just makes it easier to build craft if I can take everything off and go from there.

Im pretty sure things are going apekitten at Anet so that’s why there hasn’t been much. I stopped buying gems and spending money on this game after they kept releasing those lazy outfits month after month. I don’t know if many ppl saw this but the anet from gw1 doesn’t seem to be the same now. They have milked the outfits thing and gemstore so much and now this price tag for an ’’expansion’’ after three years of barely any content.

Its just a huge let down and a slap to the face from all the veteran players from gw1 and the people that started since gw2 came out.

Who knows maybe they will stop doing this and actually listen to ppl and have reasonable prices.

You’re only punishing yourselves. They aren’t going to change their prices. Get better jobs if this is too steep a price.

They will change. People run everything and if the people don’t get what they want they wont comply which ends up as a huge loss for any company. Simple as that.
