P.S. Please do not underestimate Dagger Storm for WvW. It’s very viable and saves my life a lot. I prefer Basilisk Venom in sPvP, or smaller, group coordinated, fights.
It’s most likely because you can say goodbye to your burst if your ennemy EVER sees that you have the Basilisk Venom activated.
Engineer is a good class, period, it just lack the ridiculously overpowered tricks and features some other classes tend to get.
Concerning the dungeons, it is rather in a weird position, half the people out there value our swiss-knife like versatility (damage, solid, ranged rez, numerous helpful tricks), others will fall in the ‘lol my warior does more dmg’ category, the Engineer isn’t really rejected.
This is something that I called the Fighter build, it is direct and causes massive condition damage (mostly burn) in a rather short time especially against melee players.
Block an attack in melee range to stun, kick your opponent in the face with the Tool Belt version of Rocket Boots, send him off and spray your poison darts on him. Hit and run with Super Speed, spray your oil on the ground when the opponent gets heavily aggressive.
Protection and the smoke screen from the Flamethrower will wash up a good amount of damage when CC’d and you get to have enough tools to survive, heal yourself, and get back to the fight.
PS: Ehm, ok, the message got moderated and transfered from the build thread into there, what the hell?

… and ’cause Anonymity Hood + Duelist coat + Celestial Dye == Ezio
Oh look, another one.
Only an Engineer would handle a precision rifle like a MASSIVE shotgun.
I don’t know about that, everytime we had the potential to deal decent damage, BAM, nerf.
I’m going to agree with the OP, why? Because it’s true, we have tools for every situation, we’re just not optimal in 1 vs Many. I stopped caring about being top notch for duels, and charging into every single roaming Thief, Mesmer or D/D Elementalist.
I like to give areas of denial, shoot stuff, CC spam people, pull ennemies and hit them with the pry bar. If these petty easymode Altair clones like to do what everyone else does, it’s cool for them, I prefer the legendary epicness of an engineer rather than the stale, overrated, sour and foul taste of the generic assassin. (Yes, I tried to make a Charr Thief in a Predator fashion and I couldn’t bear the thought that 90% of roamers out there are Thieves)
In what concerns the elegance: The Engineer is not ‘elegant’ in the way of synergies, it’s not supposed to, all the builds are composed of different tricks and gadgets with no synergies between eachother, but so simple that you get to use them well altogether, it’s a strength I couldn’t get to find anywhere else.
In the end I’m going to say that the Engineer is fine. Even if I get back on that comment everytime I flee from a D/D Ele or watch a Thief fleeing far away after a fight where I had the upper hand.
I found all the kits to be useful in their own way, I really don’t want to change anything on them.
I only want the Jump Shot to be fixed. Oh, and maybe some better downed skills. (And I’d want Anet to stop nerfing us)
Not just in WvW, it’s a very good engaging tool, just pull, hit with the Pry Bar, Blunderbuss and Overcharged Shot back.
Never underestimate the Supply Crate, it’s a good stun if landed right; the turrets apply burn damage which is handy if you’re condition based and it contains a net turret which can heavily cripple your foes for you, on top of this, regeneration, supplies, to outlast the ennemy.
I’ve played Engineer since day one and I’ll probably only play that because this class was everything I looked for, tons of variations in builds, goofy and unpredictable mechanics, solid.
It may not be ultra top notch in PvP compared to a stealth Thief, a Guardian or a bunker Elementalist, but you get to feel the epicness of your moves when pulling someone with your magnet to hit him with the pry bar before blasting him away with an overcharged shot, or blocking/stunning a melee opponent with your Static Shield to get you to kick him in the face with your Rocket Boots’ toolbelt attack.
I wouldn’t mind Anet to stop with the nonsense nerfs though, there are far worse things to worry about than us being (omagaaaaad) able to deal decent damage.
Well, a good looking wrench would be obvious there.
Well, yes. And besides, would need to see the post-culling-fix state of the Thief’s stealth gameplay before attempting anything. Opponents just disappear at random times right now.
Well you could use… a hat! Or nothing! You tend to be jaded after witnessing the existance of more than three thousands Altair clones or ‘kitten and dark’ versions of it. That’s only me though.
I really don’t get why the fanaticism on the hoods.
I’m not going to go by 36 ways.
You want a useful change? Force revelation from stealth when struck or taking damage. I don’t mind ANYTHING else as Thieves are fightable and good Thieves can get to bypass this change, it’s just that stealth as it is right now gets you to be forgiven of alot of errors you’d make.
I’ve been trying everything in order to kill one on my Engi and the best results I’ve ever had for now is to bunker too and not die aswell, and.. it’s hilariously ridiculous.
I care alot about my look, especially on charrs.
First one is the pistol/shield build, the second one is the glass cannon rifle build.
Let’s not defend the ‘cause’ just in order to be politically correct. A WvW Thief is ridiculously overpowered. I don’t talk about the dagger burst, Heartseeker or whatever, a Thief is fightable, I’m used to it on the roaming Engi. But the culling issues + the crapload of escapes make them nearly uncatchable even with the CC spam I can provide, I could say that I’ve only killed 30% of all the losing Thieves who decided to flee.
But in order to avoid getting useless nerfs, I really want to push on an eventual fix to the rendering issues first. And then maybe… a mechanism consisting in getting revealed from stealth when taking damage. First one will make fights with them much more manageable (no more random disappearances + additionnal seconds of stealth). The second one is because the current mechanics gets a Thief to be forgiven even if he made quite alot of mistakes.
Now it’s definately not the worst of my troubles as the biggest one right now is being called Elementalist, outlasting me and every single trick my Engineer has, plus the mobility.
I only expect a Warrior to be good at what he’s built for. I often hope he’s a solid one to avoid complications.
