why nerf this when Mesmer speed is lowest in game? makes no sense we won’t be balenced with other classes anymore and we will die easily thanks to not being able to kite well enough.
Haha, hahahaha. Ha. Sorry, I couldn’t resist.
Welcome to WvW, if you expect to fight people, you’ll be disappointed.
And in addition to this add a mechanic that gives VPs on player deaths.
IE, when a player kills another player 1 VP is given to the killers server.Kills should never ever matter in non-competetive open world combat. Why? Because its so kitten easy to abuse, not to mention its completely unfair. Oh look the entire enemy server is outside our spawn location because our server dont have manpower for WvW. Lets give them some extra points for their effort!
Such a change would probably make me stop playing GW2 WvW. It would stop being fun.
You’d prefer the reverse? Like it is right now? And just cycle-cap the bases while giving absolutely no kitten about the rest?
“Why do you waste your time fighting that guy soldier, you should be hitting that door already, you’re fired.”
It’s actually a good question. And I really won’t mind seeing the Pry Bar go.
Net shot ? Freeze grenade? Not sure why grenades are hard on a boss who’s heavily stationary. I’m going to abstain from breaking it down why grenades > everything for engineer ranged DPS – there’s several other threads where it has been done. I’ll leave it to you to do some research or self testing if you continue to believe otherwise.
I’m not believing anything, the world doesn’t turn around grenades, period. If you’ve come to think that way you might aswell just make a Greatsword Warrior and carry on, there is more to that.

Anything but the RNG, just ANYTHING. I’m just tired of getting the wrong boons, especially concerning the Toss Elixir S.
I am grumpy, I will comment on Warriors and Guardians when they’re mindlessly spinning their greatswords for great justice. Otherwise I just hold my tongue and just write tactical stuff and possible plans, some times lame jokes associated to “puts on sunglasses”.
Now stop with the urban legend. You don’t need to be Grenades to be effective in PvE, hell, I’d like to see you with these grenades when facing the Ascalonian Captain as example. A well built P/P set is fine, you can even add a range traited Elixir Gun on top of it, the new Giver weapons scale ridiculously well with all the condition damage we can deal. Berserker Rifle is welcome too, especially for the Dredge fractals.
Also remember to look in ANY forum for 1VS6 of ANY profession…..even ranger.
Or just try to do the same with your thief…spec for stealth evasiveness as Always but add PVT gear……You don t want to? i wonder why……because thief can still 1VSX without needing to sacrifice DMG output maybe….
Well, Thief can, Mesmer kinda can, D/D Eles could, if not threatened to screw up every second. Boon duration HGH*409 P/P Engineers kind of can, but the build is fairly overpowered. But yes, 850 boring and predictable super-ownage 1vX videos on the Thief section, during this time, the other classes feel epic when dealing with a 1v2, I admit that the few times I play my Thief I rarely feel threatened compared to when I roam with the Engineer.
Well… if you people consider that one video of your class destroying people means nothing about being overpowered, which I hear often, then one video of a certain class stomping you shouldn’t mean anything aswell.
Depends of the style of these large battles, if it’s a total mess, support is prefered, if it’s two separate groups fighting eachother, you can do wonders with your tool kit and your rifle.
Really dude? it’s a bloody game. And besides, teh Creed fights for the good guys and freedom from opression and conrol of over-powered goverments and trirants. So there. :P
Bah, let me make my fun of it, it’s laughable. :P
I want the ability to stomp asuras with my right foot whenever they use the Elixir S.
I’m already glad that fights with Thieves are a bit more… fluid now that the culling issues have been removed, they don’t need to get any more hits. That might even convince me to bring mine back, if the average douchified Thieves left.
… and ’cause Anonymity Hood + Duelist coat + Celestial Dye == Ezio
Amen to that
Love assassin creeding my charr.
Transforming your character into some psychopath disguised like a christmas tree slaughtering people in the streets? You deserve to be dismembered and slaughtered.
Some turrets are worth mentioning, but they often serve condition builds. I tend to use the Net Turret from time to time since condition duration also affects the duration of immobilizes, 5-6s per Net thrown, including the toolbelt skill and the Supply Crate, very annoying to deal with, bane to Thieves.
What he means is other classes can stack bleeds better. My Warrior can land 25 stacks in 1 button press. And when people can spam removal that just makes it all the more worse.
The bleeds themselves, I’m not sure. If you stand in front of an Ele or a Necro you’re going to suffer yes, Bleeds aren’t an Engi’s speciality as they’re more about burns and poisons.
Of course, the only reliable condition they have is Bleeding, which can be removed just anyone with even just one skill that just removes one condition. But my bleeds+burn+poison+confusion will just be shrugged off just as easily as your bleeds alone by the classes that are being complained about on that level, I need alot of calculations combined with a sprinkle of luck in order to get through Elementalists and Guardians condition wise. Besides yes, Thieves could use a shorter cooldown on damaging poisons.
So what? Anyone knowing the Killshot skill and a bit of knowledge won’t be caring one bit about that, just leave the guy be with all his “secrets”, everybody knows already.
I didn’t miss the “troll”-post, and I just said that Anet doesn’t want us to be close to the utility, the damage, or the support the designed classes can bring, the removal of 100nades wasn’t because “Noone should be bursting for 24k damage”, it’s because “Engineers shouldn’t be bursting for 24k damage”. If that build was strapped on a Warrior they wouldn’t even look at it.
I bet my hand that the Burns or the Static Discharge will take a hit as we still have a good burst and that our Condition Damage is superior.
A set that mixes the Arah armor can give a good yet exotic look, for anyone looking to get away from the overrated and overused duelist / hood looks. The HOTW armor deserves a mention aswell.
killshot is a warrior ability.
Yes, and from what I just said, Warriors are authorized to deal massive damage. That’s my point.
I just blasted this ranger’s face with an 18,937 killshot, they nerf 100nades but not this
! can’t believe it
You know what’s funny? It’s only because Anet said that the Engineer wasn’t supposed to deal high amounts of damage, no matter how clunky these builds are.
Reminds me of that dredge Fractal where I cooked up some homemade stealth in order to engage the Bombs level more easily, the Mesmer next to me was like
“An Engi bringing something useful? impossible lol”
“Yeah well look, if you’re not kittening happy with me you’re free to kittening leave, if you knew better you’d have just used your kitten elite and I wouldn’t have gone through this skill mess in order to get you through”
Of course, nobody will care if we can bring some safe ranged DPS with a Net on 7s cooldown for situations like the Fractal Dredge Boss or that we are very solid overall. People will literally make threads in here saying that the Engi is a waste of a class slot for everything. I’m not giving appreciations to all the FoTM’s I kill, no matter how overpowered we are.
Most of P/P Condition builds will do, Static Discharge Rifle Burst still works wonders.
The problem is that the Thief isn’t an assassin by default, more of a duelist actually, I’d prefer having more creative ways to fight and adapt rather than a set of weapons that give you the opportunity to clone whatever assassin or ninja you’re drooling at.
OP, Anet has stated countless times that they want us to be ‘versatile’, nearly above everything else, which means mid-absolutely everything. Is it stupid? Yes, definitely since it’s not rewarded anywhere but WvW. Now concerning the builds… I’m not sure that we should be complaining.
I suppose there are enough threads like this already.
oh yeah and some fix on our Conditions ? its impossible nowdays to stack it above 6 everyone i mean EVERYONE running bunker builds just constantly Removing all my conditions in secs and overheal the dmg it done.
It’s not just a Thief related problem.
The engineer is fine. Slightly pigeonholed into P/P condition builds due to the fixes on the Giver weapons, but remains fine whatever you do because we have solid gadgets and elixirs.
It’s funny, I’ve never found KR to be useful for alot of builds, and it’s only now that I’ve taken an interest on it.
No sir,,, YOU don’t see it comming as I and it seems many other ppl do see it comming and even more so, the stoneskin makes you SEE it applied for what must feel an eternity of 1.5 seconds.
wat
You often don’t see it coming, can be stuck on any attack and it’s often on Steal + CnD.
It is a rather well known build. Go For the Eyes is overrated, prefer the range over it, you’d want to get those 10 points into Alchemy for a perma Vigor ability.
The build itself is definately not made to roam with even if it remains possible to do so (I tend to switch to Rifle when overloaded with packs of Guardians and Elementalists where condition damage is absolutely a no no), and it excels in large battles where you can auto-attack at will, at 1200 range for 2k damage, burst some crowds down, and eventually pull shy people from their zerg to you to launch them to your zerg with an Overcharged Shot.
The combination remains solid however: You have nails, a decent shield on a rather short cooldown and alot of CC, any Thief that failed to engage you (Backstab into your Gear Shield) will be turned to ashes through massive crowd control and damage. You will have alot of problems dealing with stability Warriors (Balanced Stance triggering trait) as your crowd control usually makes up for the lack of mobility you have. D/D Eles will out-trick you but it’s almost normal at that point -rolleyes-.
It is useful, kind of, but only on bunker builds as such heals usually scale on how much damage you can shrug off.
Whatever fits them. I love P/P, but absolutely hate the Might Stacking + Elixir playstyle. I just tinkered it with a Gadget version of it that uses Med Kit+Speedy Kits, Slick Shoes and Net Turret and left the Tool Kit untouched, trades some features for some other ones. Everything is moveable, everyone will eventually find their count, and eventually what they’re looking to do.
So tired of the whining about what other mmo’s have. I could say the same for any other class. “Oh Ele’s use daggers, don’t actually cast spells traditionally, and are more tanky than warriors, new class please.” “Oh rangers can use great swords and can switch out pets, different class name please.” How else do you represent stealth other than actually going invisible especially in respect to wvw and pvp. Do people want this game to be lame and stereotypical? All classes in this game have unique aspects to them (except maybe warrior). You have to learn to deal with it.
It’s most likely deviations, varieties.
What makes a Warrior a Warrior is his ability to have an impact on the front line, no matter if you play a double axe barbarian, a greatsword fighter, a stat-boosting commander or a rifleman.
All the classes have the same scheme, the Thief’s main characteristic is his mobility combined with alot of in-combat features (initiative, stealth and steal), and the playstyle will go from the sword duelist to the gunslinger, up to the typical assassin everyone uses because they watched too much anime / played a certain Ubisoft franchise.
With the popular choices, people tend to pigeonhole their mindset on that and forget the rest. Of course, the Thief’s bread and butter was never meant to be ‘Assassinate targets and disappear in the shadows’, this ‘feature’ is just a small part of a large tree, the complaints are often made from a point of view where the Thief is actually an ‘Assassin’.
(edited by MrForz.1953)
lol if we are at it…
Thief should copy assassin’s creed.
ooooh yeaaaah.
It’s already the case outfit-wise for most of people I meet or face. Anything close to that gets my wrench in the face, and my Charr Thief does absolutely everything to not get compared to that. -.-
Surprise Shot being buffed, Super Speed on the ToolKit, Reflects on the Med Kit. Interesting.
That’s the dev philosophy destined to us Engineers. They WILL annihilate any potential for us to deal absurd amounts of damage. They WANT us to be the kings of versatility, in a place where versatility isn’t rewarded much, dungeoners would always want to pick classes that are best at what they do: Super damage, heavy support, utility. We’re really good at WvW, and even if we hold our own on PvE due to our solid amount of tools that’s not going to win us points to get selected.
By the start, FT isn’t quite potent in WvW no matter how you build it. Most of classes you’ll encounter will have fairly high mobility, the whole set would compare you to a weaker version of a Warrior with slightly more range and no leaps or lunges which is really problematic.
It’s funny because my main was born with that mindset, first out of fun talks with friends, then after hitting 80 and getting geared correctly… Well I ended up liking it.
A Charr, too small to be of any use in the legions, cast aside, studied engineering, conceived machines, guns, created elixirs, became spiteful, aggressive, intimidating.
If they don’t need me, I’m certainly not going to need them.
This is why I have a gadget / Med Kit version of most of boon based builds. If it bites us really hard, well…
The race has an impact, even if minor, to the gameplay, I’m rarely able to know when an Asura is dodging, the direction it’s facing during a combat and things like that.
Supply only has healing+ net + flame turrets :P ( rifle is trained ), but correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t everyone use supply on top of enemies for the stun rather than the turrets ? cause if you do after those 2 seconds are gone, so are your turrets lol
The Flame/Net turret tends to be a major pain for the opponent. But I was just talking about just making a kit that only contained turrets in there, minus the healing one.
You know, if all the turrets were part of ONE kit, I’d probably use it.
Yeah, everyone does, it’s called Supply Crate
Why isn’t there a Rocket Turret in there then.
Well it’s the reverse here. Engi being main, played all the other classes in order to study them, generic, disappointed, often boring. You get to find out that the Engineer utility skills, all of them have a place into most of builds, you may want to switch between them on the fly, out of fun, efficiency or adaptation.
I also keep remembering of my leveling days with a couple of friends “Hey look, I can shoot a rocket out of my belt, HA!” It’s up to you to decide if you’re serious or not and you ALWAYS have something you can do during combat if you have kits.
I have renounced the easy CoF 1 farms, the easy PvP/WvW handling, and the nearly gamebreaking abilities many other classes had to offer, it was absolutely worth it.
Very few people are going to make and main an engineer when they can roll a dark mage, a supreme elemental mage, a barbarian, a holy paladin, an torturing illusionnist, a master of the wild or an altaïr clone.
You know, if all the turrets were part of ONE kit, I’d probably use it.
Am I the only one actually playing with a P/P build that doesn’t include HGH? And scrapping the HGH*409 pigeonhole for let’s say.. a pair of Slick Shoes or a Flamethrower? Eventually a Med Kit too, out of reliability? I’ve never had to complain about the damage of a full Carrion/Rabid P/P build that didn’t use Might stacking.
That’s my goal. We need more representation here. I hate seeing other professions whine about how “OP” we are (haha… Right), and I hate seeing the same build being used by every single thief. I sure don’t want this profession to become another ele profession, with the overwhelming majority of eles playing D/D nowadays. -_-
Popularity, the whole “assassin of shadows of doom” concept and… well, something that gives immediate results without perseverence. Aaaand… Well. There are more reasons to ‘Why are Thieves infesting the WvW grounds’.
I still wish you luck on your quest, I really mean it, at least in order to meet more humble ‘duelist types’, and less ‘ego-stroking-ninja-assassins’.
Engineers are what happens when you have a Heavy Armoured class that the Devs are having trouble balancing. So they just downgrade to Medium Armour and let pass.
90% of the Engineers problems come from being centered around having higher armour.
That is why Engineers are so hard to play, all of their Survivability comes from user-activated skills whether its blocks, dodging or invulnerable.
Our invulnerable skills arent ground covering and they remove our skill bar. (unless you requip a kit while invulnerable for 1-2 “free hits”.When you see the vids of Elite Engineer players like Maska or TankCat you can see how much good blocking/dodging and mostly knowing when to disengage and re-engage factors in to how well they do.
Even going full PVT with Toughness you are still too squishy for the amount of time we have to stay at close range.
Engineers are an awesome concept and Anet gave a good try but just play any other profession and you will see how much easier it is while earning much better results.
So sad.
As I said somewhere else, it may be due to Anet’s philosophy, trying to make us ultra versatile to the point that they really don’t want us to be very good at some criterias. Problem is that it’s not rewarding us at all. People will pick Warrior for the super damage (and might stacking), then Guardian for being an effortless concentrate of support, then a Mesmer for bypassing the frustrating mechanics.
Now, most of engi players embraced the gameplay to the point of not going back to any other class, the most frustrated ones are the ones having a hard time getting away from their Warrior, Mesmer or Thief.

! can’t believe it
