Well what is done is done anyways. That weird philosophy from Anet will always surprise me.
Nope, definitely not. If you really didn’t like the huge amount of time you had for you to dodge that Magnet Pull there is nothing we can do for you.
Besides… I’m sure that if 100nades was strapped on a Warrior they wouldn’t even look at it, doesn’t feel like “Nobody’s supposed to burst for 24k damage” but rather “Hell no, Engineers shouldn’t do that much damage”.
So would you all say that the toolbelt skill for Hidden pistol is worth making a charr for? ^^ Even if it happens to be bugged :/
I use it sometimes, the skill delivers quite alot of damage on a short cooldown, and can deserve a room in a Rifle/Static Discharge build. The Hidden Pistol itself can be handy, I used to level with that.
Are you seriously suggesting that a Rifle warrior is like a long range invisible assassin? Surely, sir, you are not!
No, but it has a rifle, and long range abilities, if ou want a long range invisible assassin you’re in the wrong game.
If the Thieves would get a rifle it would have something to do with mobility and sustained damage, nothing more. Besides, even there it would be lame, the only thing that prevented the Pistol Thieves from infesting the PvP grounds was the ridiculously low damage it dealt, + the fact that it was bleed only which was really easily removable.

Funny thing is, this topic doesn’t even seem to come up in the engineer forum. I guess it’s just part of the usual “I don’t understand mesmers, please nerf them” campaign.
We have nothing to complain about, we were more surprised than anyone to have that buff while we were expecting another nerf that actually never came. Don’t worry about it, we’re all pigeonholed into Tool Kit now.
To finish.. No, I’m not sure that Anet knows well how it works, infact, they have troubles trying to get us anywhere.
And besides, what’s the overall thought about confusion triggering on abilities linked to dodging?
So why in the nine hells engineers have more potent mesmer-specific condition, than mesmers themselves? I find this highly offending.
Ask Anet, because us Engineers have no idea, it’s the last thing we’d have ever expected, I don’t think they do have an idea either. If we were to break it down:
Pry Bar gives 5 stacks of Confusion for 5s, requires melee range.
Static Shot gives 2 stacks of confusion, potentially 4, for 3s, ranged and pretty easy to use.
Concussion Bomb gives 5 stacks of Confusion for 5s too, requires close range and the ennemy to stay in that range.
You’ll rarely see an Engi using all of that, most likely the first two options. And besides that’s not the point. Confusion is most of the time a killer for D/D Elementalists, made many tests, encounters, and a simple, well placed, Pry Bar applied during combat once they’ve attuned to Water and made their Cleansing Wave is often enough to heavily damage one and I’m not even HGH. Explain to me why you can’t do the same, knowing that you can apply a whole load of Confusion while staying in a more or less safe stance, I’m curious, I honestly am.
To finish, I speak about a nerf, or a ‘fix’ to confusion in general, not YOUR confusion.

Wowowow, calm down. The name Thief is designed for the relation to thrill, mid-close range, in-combat decisions, initiative, most of the time, being in the middle of the mud, troubles. All the examples you’ve shown respect that. Now tell me how the hell you’re going to implant that rifle. It has no reason to be there, it’s just that you crave being a long range invisible assassin. Make a Warrior.
And if you really can’t accept that, well, you can still dream about it. I’m leaving you to that. Good Journey.

Well Mesmer is the best class of the game and for good reasons, the rest is either underpowered or poorly designed, nobody would be foolish enough to disagree with that.
And besides, the question is meh, you’d really expect Mesmer players to answer you that they’re overpowered?
And another thread made by someone who’s played/watched too much <insert franchise here>.
It’s not going to happen as it gets in conflict with the very nature of the Thief. Not even Engies will be permitted to have that.
Nothing to see here, time to move on.
All I see are charr engis. if i see an engi. its always a charr. break the mold.
It’s funny, whenever I see an Engi it’s an Asura. And besides we already break the mold anyways.
I’m a dark shadow assassin dressed exactly like that guy in AC!
I’m a fearsome warrior with my flaming greatsword!
I’m a holy paladin fighting for great justice!
I’m an engineer, problem?
My only gripe with picking charr is that even though everyones base movement speed is the same, the animation just feels slower or slugging. Does anyone else get this?
Yes but well, my first character was a Charr, can’t complain, especially when most of humans / asuras look exactly the same, you can actually manage to look deliciously kitten when choosing Silvari or Charr, and that’s primordial.
(edited by MrForz.1953)
It’s still pointing at the skies.
Charr Engineer is pure awesomeness, close to the Charr Necromancer.
And they can have access to some really cool armors.
Been roaming between different profs. So far:
-Elementalists: They talk rather constructively and try very hard to do anything other than D/D builds due to popularity and possibly sickness.
-Guardians: Their conversations are often based about a few questions and many of them will make posts saying that they feel bad about many other classes.
-Thief: It’s the end of the world, they have 1 more second of Revealed, complains are posted 24/7, L2P’s are posted right after that, alot of arguments, even between Thieves themselves. A good number of people suggesting ninja/assassin-like weapon sets because they’ve played too much Hitman or watched too much anime.
-Mesmer: Refer to the first sentence on: Thief.
-Necromancer: Totally lost, trying to find out the reasons of recent nerfs rather than fixing bugs.
-Ranger: Looking for bug fixes, utterly negative, some try to crack their character stats open in order to pull anything decent against the FotM’s, others look like they’ve found the Holy Grail.
-Warrior: Desperate call to Anet about PvP, alot of small, informative questions asked, pretty much all.
And what I’m seeing on the Engineer forums are posts asking about HGH*409 now that it’s finally turned out to be popular, nobody knows if we’re OP or not, I’m seeing threads about how people love their class; negative threads, parodies, mixed feelings, and people frowning at Anet’s philosophy.
The Super Speed was designed for in-combat purposes, when using it while attacked it will give you speed, comparable to someone out of combat with swiftness. It tends to be more valuable than it is.
It’s funny, I see no Engineers anywhere, I mean… It’s probably your worst encounter where the only action that would give you the advantage is to hit first and hit well.
I really hope confusion build is not nerfedl It is incredibly useful in WvW. And to all those haters… learn to play your class instead of trying to nerf the others.
If you are killed easily, you are either:
1. unskilled in your class
2. traited wrong
3. better off playing Hello Kitty Online
It’s funny, I convinced a Mesmer to request nerfs on confusion after he’s been hit by the Pry Bar, I required to be on melee range though, but well… you know, HGH*409.
While what you say here is about as useful as a screen-door on a submarine, if you don’t think that Confusion is overpowered, then none of you has a right to point at the potency of D/D Elementalists, it’s simple as that.
lolno it’s not at all the best but I wouldn’t be playing it if it were the best.
I suppose this hits the nail right on the head. Wouldn’t play it either if it directly was part of the “cool” classes like Warriors, Guardians and Mesmers. (Thief not being included due to poor PvE, but remains close due to the whole fantasy of dark shadow ninja assassins).
You may eventually know what to expect from most of classes, and most of them don’t even know what to expect from us.
(edited by MrForz.1953)
The last days I’ve been PUG’ing my way in dungeons, didn’t say a word and people were like sorry that Engies had to be designed this way. It’s mostly all potential, and poor design.
Does it come with a new panda race to?
Absolutely, with new ninja stuff even if the Thief has absolutely NOTHING to do with all of that.
(Plus I don’t see my charr using that kind of weapon)
OP, you’re doing it wrong.
HGH*409 based builds offer you everything you need. It’s really too bad that you get to be pigeonholed in there in order to be exceptionnally effective. I.. wouldn’t mind seeing it go to be honest, fed up with Elixirs.
Of course the Engis are the kings of jumping puzzles.
The Net Turret of course. The immobilizes are so kitten long, and I never parted with it since the day I discovered it when stacking condition duration. You can add cripple and/or vulnerability through traits with this.
Last thing this section needs are whine threads and coutner-whine threads with an insidious plan to look super-skilled-wonderful.
Thief-2 heal skills remove conditions, Guard-Passive condition removal with heal signet, Necro-Consume conditions, Ele-Ether Renewal-Engi gets a trait in one of their strongest (strongest) Trait line that removes conditions with elixirs, Ranger can passively send it to its pet . Mesmer-Menders purity (ONLY way we can get it in a heal skill) and its just one…. SO yes we are the worst class in this game when it comes to condition removal… This is intended… Stop trying to get us nerfed based off of something that is false (condition removal lol). And when I said slot skill I meant the utility slots outside of healing skill.
Precisely, and I’ll send my engi there as example, I don’t use 409, which means that I can only use Elixir C and the Antidote from Med kit to try to cure my conditions (lal). You shouldn’t expect to have the advantage against a conditioner when you’re not investing anything into condition removal. On top of this, I never meant to complain. You shouldn’t get worked up, last thing a Mesmer needs is Guardian-like Condition Removal.
I’m a firm believer that any build on any class can dominate in the right hands.
Ah well, I’m afraid you lost a good amount of credibility in there.
Mesmer sucks at it worse than anyone.. by far… Necros hand my rear to me with conditions… We have the least amount of cleanses in the game… Which means that unless we trait for it or use a slot skill we get NONE.
Just like most of classes.
Well, the fix to culling issues left some annoying lags. The pull… has some conflicts between your client and the server, I’d hit my target with the pry bar even if he was only pulled for half the distance, sometimes the reverse happens, sometimes it has troubles registering the pull, sending the target back where I pulled him from.
The best class is the Mesmer, nobody can contest that. Now, to like it… That’s another story.
I play some weird semi-tanky version of the engie so at least I’ll be around lol
Many will eventually be around. Really don’t know what else I’d main really, too… generic, mainstream, boring.
It would probably be something less than serious.
I stopped bothering with guilds and made my own, being Jar, the tag for ’I’ve got a jar of dirt’.
You could also go for Random Number Generation Corp.
A mesmer having trouble fiding a place to fit in? O.o
1. How many different builds do we really see?
2. How long will this last? Will we reach a point where most realise it’s not all that easy mode still?
1. The few engineers I ever meet are P/P, absolutely all of them, and they’ve had big troubles with the might stacking + condition removal while trying to use the Elixirs for their intended uses, leading to a total disorder from their part.
2. It won’t last long because Mesmers are still overpowered in any plane of this game and other classes are nearly as efficient as us with 70% less efforts, the Elementalists just being much more mobile than us.
3. Yes.
(edited by MrForz.1953)
We are doomed, all of us.
Despite what everyone says, as a shatter mesmer I tend not to die against any condition based builds (necro/engi) because they burst down so easily. Eles and rangers are the main problems.
Engies would even die to the unbuffed condition damage if they use kits.
He trolled you very well.
“https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/thief/The-thief-and-its-gameplay-Your-feedback-Merged”, I feel sick everytime I look at this. 3500 worth of pages and all the promises to make thief a better profession are nothing but a lie (Thieves should be given more mobility! Elementalist is actually taking that role, that shouldn’t be the case!
“ kitten I’m a ninja assassin! I should run faster than them! Nerf!
That was somewhat expected. Elixir + HGH*409 is pretty much the core of our PvP gameplay, just like D/D + Cantrips to an Elementalist.
The only annoying thing is that Engi utility skills are potentially close to being perfectly balanced between themselves. I play a gadget / turret variant of most of popular builds, it includes:
Net Turret.
Rocket Turret.
Personnal Battery Ram.
Slick Shoes.
And sometimes Rocket Boots to compensate the lack of Burning damage when going P/S.
They add some extra oomph during combat, but they won’t grant you that godlike survivability + decent offense and the ability to handle outnumbering, oh, and the ability to shug off conditions.
(edited by MrForz.1953)
Thieves are useless now, I tell you, I tell you! It’s the end for them.
not bad at all has been my experience. most people are impressed.
That’s the ‘decent part’ of the people you’d defeat.
The rest would be like “ kitten I’m an assassin/mesmer/player-killer! I can’t lose to these cattle classes!”
Sylvari Armor sucks :/
You mean… it rocks.
I don’t complain, not using any of the popular builds and when not facing a confusion Mesmer I feel on equal footing against any other classes.
What’s up with all the engineers lately? Well, people may eventually get bored to mindlessly spin their greatswords for great justice.
I’d have prefered something like a massive knockback like Rocket Boots instead of our current 2.
Our might stacks can be on par with a Warrior. So yes, it will be nerfed.
If stealth is broken and an engineer can take down 3 stealthers, then isn’t engi like super broken? Or maybe stealthers just aren’t that broken after all…
Or he found 3 x “2-2-2-2-2”ers.
The only 3 classes I would think of as marginally underpowered when compared with the 4 above are engis, necros and rangers, although I do see a good number of these in pve at least.
facepalm
You know, I wouldn’t even mind the Mesmer’s combat prowness, I do mind however the, ehm… fact that they’re the core of most of planned efforts. I suppose that being the only USEFUL utility class is a curse around there.
