Blah, blah, blah, guild kitten, blah, blah, blah.
Engies aren’t useless in WvW.
You’re definitely going from one end of the spectrum to the other. The thief is extreme mobility at the cost of being fragile by default if you do get pinned down. The necromancer is quite durable by default, with the cost of being easy to pin down with control effects.
Problem being that one these features is MUCH MORE REWARDING than the other.
If you play small E.T. rat race, no wonder you don’t feel like necromancer. Try Charr instead. Gritty voice, scary apperance, kitten Death Shroud look.
Keeper Jonez Deadrun gets all the girls.
Why would thieves have highest single target dps? Where is the logic here, does this feel enjoyable for pvp to you?
Well, they want to assassinate everyone and disappear in the shadows like a true shadow ninja assassin, so yes, I suppose.
Are they supposed to lose duels?
They are supposed to be deadly duelists.
Have you ever faced a war as thief?
Do you often lose?
For my part yes, I did, and no, I only barely lose, Warriors only really counter hard CC packing classes, and they need a build for that most of the time. I barely need to use stealth at all, I could be slotting my bar with dodge rolls and I’d be just fine.
The only thing that prevents a Thief from being completly gamebreakingly overpowered is that the damage can be soaked if having a bit of protection.
Now let’s be honest in here, anything that isn’t a Warrior or a Mesmer is frowned at in PvE. The Warriors could use a nerf in the damage and a buff in durability/utility/mechanics based skills, not Thieves being buffed.
^
Didn’t hear a single word of them saying they wouldn’t be able to have the highest single target dps. They are supposed to have the highest mobility (sadly aren’t there yet) and highest burst (also don’t have). Doesn’t look like what is supposed to be, is.
Mobility I could almost understand, but for the rest: high =/= highest, and you have Doggie’s text strapped on your face this time.
Time to move on.
And so, you proceeded to post in here, the Engi’s method worked quite well.
It is weird that very few people do mention engies, rifle ones have enough tools to shine in large battles and pistol ones are a force to be reckoned with.
mechanic is thieves are SUPPOSED to have the highest single target dps.
Oh?
I recommend Legionnaire Pistols and Shields for sheer awesomeness, but Ogre style weapons are much more fitting for the Krytan set, while keeping the technical aspect.
I used a turret yesterday, the Net Turret. Aaand I’ve faced an engi that used two before he got off the cliff with his own overcharged shot.
The same thing as ever. The good side of never using mug.
Do whatever you want, the top builds will remain HGH P/P and Grenades, but nothing holds you from doing gadget/turret based builds with any weapon you like as long as you meet some criterias.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=FjDz_NaKVt0 Here is a video of it. Not on a engineer in the video, but just showing it (And gloves). I’m curious how much of it is covered when you throw a hobo sack on it.
I want it!
It is replaced, the Jetpack is removed and the hobo sack appears. Sometimes it tends to bug and both of them are stacked, only the sharp edges remain, the reactor itself isn’t visible through the pack.
I have it, I’ve bumped the other thread about hobo sacks, I’m slightly kitten .
Wait, do you mean you actually have to worry about the possibility of dying?
Inconceivable!
Of course, change WvW to ZvZ, whichever got more Zerglings/Banelings/Mutalisks than the other wins.
Mhm, yeah. And? I don’t think much people actually do care about the justifications of one guild.
Bhuhuhuuuu my Pry Bar of destruction doesn’t one hit D/D Eles anymore.
I’m Zeebok, and I approve this topic.
I am Penguin and I approve your approval.
I am.. Oh well screw this.
Yes, if condition, Nade or EG are wonderful.
If you’re zerker or something close to it… If not traited for Grenades well you’re screwed, friend.
Besides, if you saw what many classes were carrying when underwater, you realize that Anet gave VERY little care about the whole thing.
PS; Bombs still have the same cadency of the pre-nerf underwater nades, can pack alot but requires melee range, not really reliable.
I was pulled by an engi from inside a fort over 9000 range by magnet! So OP this skill, it never misses, never bugs! OP best skill ever plz nerf more.
I managed to escape an engineer once but his magnet pulled off my armor and gear.
And now he’s hanging around with your exotics and precursor.
And my defense to that is that it’s only fair or normal if someone wants to seek out that person who /taunted or killed them out of profession descrimination and return the favor. Cuz I sure as heII do the same if others do it first. The cycle continues~~ it’s a game, if u cant take the heat then dont touch it.
This, exactly, go tell him that.
It means he’s a human being as well.
It also means he shouldn’t be surprised that he doesn’t collect flowers and laurels from the ennemies stomping him. When you want to be a jerk, you assume it.
Engies are naturally good at dealing with Thieves, they’re pretty much their worst nightmare. The Tool Kit and Net Turret has everything you need.
An engi stabbed me to death with a Greatsword please do something about this class maybe delete it from the game.
I thought it was a Hammer.
Just finished kitting out my thief, very happy with it.
It almost looks like Altair from Assassin’s Creed. Good job.
Everyone tries to look like this psychopath. It’s maddening. :/
Some of us have a Thief: The Dark Project wet fantasy too tyvm.
As for the thief hate… I get it a lot myself, even without acting like a jerk.
When the laughs and dances come out, the gloves come off and I be trollin’.
Does it mean you generally act like a jerk?
lol using gadgets comon u can do better!
Yes, using gadgets. You know, they’re part of our utility skills, just because it isn’t kittening HGH doesn’t mean that it must be avoided at all costs. I’m doing fairly fine with some franken-builds of mine, they include turrets and gadgets, I have a fair chance against any opponent, I’d advise you to look further than your own nose.
d) Engi needs a nerf somewhere every patch- it’s not OP but one killed a dev’s main one time which is unacceptable
Of course, when a Thief played by a Dev instagibs someone, there is some play in that. When a Dev gets exploded by a build that only requires you to press V (I mean, you have 3s to react) in order to nullify the whole thing, there’s no play. -rolleyes-

In a far future, there could be some sort of sniper kit placed as an elite skill which would work like this lame mortar of ours. But besides, every class wants sniping skills so.
The random talk in the Citadel.
“-The Flame Legion’s worshipping Baelfire like a God.
-Then one of us gets to be a Godslayer!”
My disgruntled charr in all his outcast and molten glory. I’d need better looking shoulder pads in order to fit with the gloves and the jetpack.
I’m bumping this. After getting my superawesome molten jetpack, it… well, it will get erased by any kit with a hobo sack. Maddening.
Oh great, another thread about that. You know, if you’re looking to reduce the number of… well I hate saying QQ so I’ll remain with ‘frustration’, it is best to not stoke the fire again, again, and again.
PS: I’ve seen people killing other people. Point?
Some people don’t take kindly to Thieves. Especially since most of people tend to roll a Thief FOR roaming the WvW grounds due to the low risk and high reward, the player knows that, and the opponents do know that aswell.
The thing is… well, the whole concept stinks of the cheesy and generic assassin everyone would want to play, most of them are arrogant, they will taunt, they will consider that all the other classes are ‘cattle’ and act like their level of skill is far beyond the target he’s going to engage.
For obvious reasons, there are very few chances that a Thief will be taken down unless very bad, if a Thief with the above paragraph’s description don’t even know how my Engineer works and wastes his Basilisk Venom + Mug + CnD on my Gear Shield just to get literally exploded five second later, I will laugh at him, yes. Because even if the class has better tools than most, you still require a little knowledge.
(Plus they all dress in the same manner with their whole Assassin’s Creed wet fantasy)
Lots of possibilities kit wise. A Mace could have its place with the current Shield, and… well, as much as I frown at the whole Sniper thingy, it could be something like these stationary precision rifles found in the game, could be an elite, just like the lame Mortar we actually have.
I just want to know what is Anet’s current goal for the Engineer, just want an answer to this simple question.
(edit) Not related to what i said before, but where the heck is our 20% cooldown reduction for our turrets!?
Retrieving your turret will give you that.
Same as everyone, Bill is outdated, doesn’t really care much, and pays the price for not ultra-cheesing his way out.
Rainbows and perfumes again.
So, how about the bug fixes and a gadget review?
It’s time for a Med Kit version of the P/P builds.
Interesting, boon hate, boon steals, might have a slight advantage not having any of these boons.
The warrior went to the legendary guards when he got low and ran out of cooldowns.
Worth a laughter, but not aknowledgement.Quite right. He should have stayed and died.
Like a moron.
Of course, you know.. For honor! (And eventually for great justice)
I’d like to tell you that as short as our conditions are, it would be an error to go straight up for condition duration, a pair of Giver Weapons and a Veggie Pizza will be way enough, which means that you can concentrate on raw condition damage, and in your case, Undead runes.
If you intend to pick all Elixirs and Tool Kit then just spend 30 points on Alchemy, pick 409 and HGH. If you do so, Might duration runes would be more valuable to you as you’ll be able to gain much more condition damage this way, the Power from it is also very noticeable.

..and at this point, the only way to play the engineer is to find something “not working as intended” and exploit the hell out of it, because playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
That’s the core of the Engineer gameplay actually, break everything down and put some scraps together in order to find something that works. Even that is getting destroyed at that point. If they plan on putting efforts into turrets well… They’re either not knowing what they’re actually doing, or are really affraid to go too far with the changes.
Nah, he’s just hiding behind the very few advantages other classes can actually bring.
A staff? Why not just a mace then?
You know, somehow I get the same feeling from it, I think. Despite some of the limitations, it’s by far the most enjoyable class for me to play. Any idea why that is?
Because it is ‘Straight to the point’. When you play the said ‘complex’ classes you tend to give value to a class that can charge in and slaughter opponents no questions asked and with the weapons of your choice. It is refreshing.
