I have spent the majority of my time in large battles just pulling people, rolling ahead of them and Overcharged-Shooting them back at my group.
Hidden pistol is a great asset. The rest is epic but only in visuals. Also… I have yet to see charrs in WvW, I’m feeling lonely.
PvE is fine, Engineer does about anything you want it to do, beware the shortsighted people though.
And PvP well… we’re left with tricks and stuff but can do insanely good with it no matter what the build. (And yes for the love of God HGH*409-conditions aren’t the only way)
Well, the armor looks good. Too bad that as usual, Charr gets the short end of the stick.
I’ve had to mix that with some Aetherblade armor parts to get him to look actually… armored rather than ‘textured’.
In exchange, it won’t matter if you take a scattershot in the face and fly 5m, you won’t be revealed.
Engineer of course.
Okay fine, I leave.
I can’t possibly be the only one to hate Thieves only for their behavior and visual aspects.
Rifle won’t work. End.
Just because most of Thieves have japanese names and are dressed like ninjas or altair doesn’t mean that the class must be renamed.
Because Thief, in combat mechanics, deep-in-the-mud situations, initiative. If you want to be a shadow sniper assassin you’re in the wrong game.
Choose Thief if you want, and if you can stand being compared to the million of them infesting the WvW grounds.
In my opinion you are either the greatest thief or you spend most of your time daydreaming. However , i have to say it does look good on paper so i tilt my hat to you latty.
He’s part right if using Sword/Dagger, but even there, you’d just need to expect a draw as the scheme goes: Thief attacks and deals damage, Engies ends up smashing Thief to oblivion, Thief flees to heal, Engie just heals. Even Med Kit builds provide enough stuff survivability against that kind of gameplay. Engie packs both CC and reliable damage which makes them more likely to scare Thieves off, especially if gadget based.
All these Thief characters look pretty cool. I plan to make a black Sylvari Thief with red or white glow. Just gotta wait until it’s done downloading… :P
You too you’re going to dress up like the usual white and red psychopath? T_T
Daw, you’re never going to forgive the world for what they’ve done to you. Buhuhuhuu. Well if you don’t know how to handle your own mechanics that’s not mr Guardian’s problem, leave him be. O.o
You encounter an outnumbered situation and decide to engage?
Well if you like respawn points that’s alright, noone’s judging you. O.o
I have everything I need to make a Predator or a Quip and half. I know I won’t stand the awkward rifle animations (It was bearable for guns like the Ogre Blaster) and that it won’t matter anyways because I switch between 3 kits constantly.
Why not just make versions of these kits that are themed to the legendary you have on your main hand? Sure that’s alot of work but come on. If you don’t find any interest to adding a reason for engineers to get a legendary weapon then you wouldn’t find interest for… well as example, Thieves to get that blurry animation when they make dodge rolls.

Here’s a new one:
The only ones who complain about stealth are scrubs.
A Thief complained that Engies could manage to use Stealth. Does it make him a scrub?
Oh yes, let’s waste supply just to catch one Thief out of the millions infesting the WvW scouting grounds.
Why can’t there be good Thieves in here for a change.
Necros will have burning. Okay. I suppose I’ll take my Burning-Poison-Confusion-Blind-spamming pistols and go away.
Frankly I’m not worried, Engies have far more versatility and tricks, and Necros deserve that stuff. For them being condition masters it was an insult for an Engi to deal way more condition damage and much faster.
Because it has the potential to be an awesome (acceptably situational) elite skill. Would have loved more portable stuff like a stationary sniper rifle along with a strong version of the mortar.
Engineery can go in alot of ways. Flame weapons (Yes, the generic rare ones) are engineery, although furnace style. Legionnaire weapons are engineery but military style. I don’t know about asura stuff, too flashy.
True, I just take pleasure in running around in nub bandit armor looking like a free kill for thief; only to shock them that they barely dent me
You could try something else. Like, wearing a full set of Flame Legion armor. Spiritually more nub-ish than a set of leather armor.
In-combat Engineers might have an easier time if carrying Slick Shoes AND Rocket Boots combined to that perma-swiftness.
Engineers having problems with Thieves? At best you’d slaughter the said Thief, at worst, end up with a tie.
Anyways, if you speak of gadget/turret/kit engies being okay, they are amongst the most painful duelists in the universe in exchange of handling 1vMany rather poorly. So, breaking this down:
A perma-stealthed Thief is pretty much an idle one, you’d find all the time to recover when he’s trying to get that backstab.
I recommend turning around all the time, taking a frontstab is already a significant loss of damage output for the Thief. For the rest, Tool Kit (Box of Nails, Gear Shield, Magnet), Slick Shoes, Net Turret (A bonus if stacking Condition Duration), and every crippling/knocking/immobilizing move will help you survive and take the Thief down in the same time.
You could try the Flamethrower but you’d need to go Pistol/Shield to compensate. Still, it’s become slightly more reliable with the recent buff to Rocket Boots.
ALT+F4 doesn’t even work anymore.
Yep. Still funny to see that loot bag popping though.
Seriously, week in an out these forums never change. You people need new material because it is getting boring. Honestly, I am kind of shocked it hasn’t gotten locked yet.
Mostly keeping faith. Automatic warnings tend to slaughter the discussions though. Either nonexistant or alive a well with no tail nor head.
IRON people ALT+F4ing. Not cool man, not cool.
I’m not maining the said Thief, but hell I’m not going to play that scrub class anymore. Not because of the apparently overpowered features (can’t tell, I’ve only mastered Engi ans they’re a huge stone wall to Thieves) but because of that foul aura surrounding the average Thief’s superior attitude which just drives me into hunting him down even inside the ennemy territory. I’ve yet to find one who’s actually humble or funny, or just normal, as the only messages I’ve ever had after kicking them in the face were insults.
My objective part won’t think they deserve a nerf, they have a poor overall performance only compensated by a completly overpowered feature, and that makes some sort of balance, nerfing it will destroy the class outright, it would be time for the Thief’s other skills and mechanics to rise before thinking of anything. My subjective part wouldn’t care one bit if the class ever was nerfed to the ground because for all the stuff I’ve seen in here and ingame, most of these players tend to be kittens.
Oh, and the whole dark assassin shadow ninja with daggers is amongst the stalest designs.
Heeeey. It’s not like a single Guardian in a group will annihilate any form of condition damage. Ehm. Wait.
I didn’t say it was a good thing but it negates all condi damage after 25% which is a free win against most condi necros.
All conditions applied before reaching 25% health will still continue to go on, not much people do bother with that because there are far more problems running around WvW than Condition Necros. So sure, scrap it. Nobody’s going to miss it.

World vs World, man. World vs World.
Suddenly, a wild Guardian appears.
Just make careful doses of D/D Eles, Guardians, HGH*409 Engineers and Mesmers and you’re done.
PS: Feel free to replace the Engineer with another Mesmer, Guardian, or D/D Ele.
/sarcasm
“Grandmaster trait: Thief Hate: deal 3% more damage for each thief in the area.”
/sarcasm
Give me that 2250% damage boost.
Besides, I can’t possibly be the only one having pity of their overall performance yet hate them with passion only because they seem to look down to everyone with their Ubisoft ripoff character.
I’d really like to see engineers wrecking faces with gadgets and turrets and kits other than the Bomb one.
Also, I played and mained Engineer before it was cool to do so. Sheer bunch of new HGH*409-Grenade junkies really gets me sick. It’s like “Hey man, I’m playing a class it’s called Engineer, I’ll show you a build I’m sure you never saw that before!” and this being said when the class is slowly getting popular.
Condition builds are more flexible.
Thieves have a better Vital Shot because Engies can potentially follow their Explosive Shots with Poison Darts, Static Shots and Blowtorches. You get 2 stacks of Confusion, Poison, Burning, and can go up to 8 Bleed stacks with the pistols if you trait and equip yourself fairly well. With P/P and even P/S (Incendiary Powder), you can apply all the most damaging conditions at once with the skill set alone.
Oh, and let’s not speak about the possibility of making it a piercing shot, which makes it both AoE, AND, Piercing.
Tell me what Thieves have, on the other hand? Bleeds, and that’s all. Sure, they can stack it up through abusive use of stealth, but it will all go down with one condition removal and additional bleed stacks don’t compare to Confusion, Poison, and Burning, especially Burning. Their other skills are either raw damage, or controls/evasion which are incompatible.
PS: Yes it does AOE damage, and no, it’s not counted amongst the explosives. Use coated bullets and watch the massive multiplicative damage on groups of ennemies.

By default, Thieves are self-rightous hypocrites and jerks, but for once, OP, you can go burn in hell too, the whole ‘Thief is broken’ thing is really annoying, especially since the 7 last months.
You want short answers: Yes stealth is overpowered. No, the rest of the Thief’s toolset isn’t, and infact is so weak or poorly designed that stealth barely compensates it. Yes it’s a bad design from Anet. No noone knows how long it’s going to last.

It looks well dyed Foxblade. A thief can never be dark enough imo!
Some well altered orange or blue dyes are good too. Black doesn’t really get you to be taken seriously. >_>
It’s actually the reverse, Engi has alot of protections which are imbued to like 150% when used within his large group of allies, a rifle engineer in there guarantees you free hits, and its magnets can potentially lead to an ennemy’s death every 20s.
Used to be one of the few ways I could get rid of these pesky Elementalists, pull with magnet, overcharged shot target on opposite side.
Don’t forget that the eventual Net Shots (from your Turret or Rifle, or Tool Belt) that suddenly stop traveling do mean that they’ve caught something, which means you can just go there and spam your attacks to your heart’s content while checking the damage logs. I’ve been making Condition Duration builds coupled with the use of Net Turret, 5s per Immobilize, they are especially painful for stealth users to deal with.
It is AWFULLY hard to kill a P/D Thief, but frankly, they tickle. Engi won’t even bother shrink/block all the way home, the Med Kit alone (yes, you heard right, not even a 409 junkie) will nullify the damage.
Thief skills are weak / poorly designed and stealth is overpowered. There is no shame in saying it, I’m amongst the first ones wishing that Thief wasn’t pigeonholed into stealth. So much potential, so few amounts of care.
Another question in the same note ?
If i could have two different sets of armor(like, one for condition, one for pure damage), what would they be ?
A mix of Berserker and Valkyrie set (runes of your choice) for pure damage, and full Rabid with Runes of the Undead if looking for simple yet devastating condition damage.
And to be honest, if you have these two sets of armor, you’re pretty much set for any build.
-I’m an engineer because I was interested in getting a flamethrower and a tool kit.
-Then I’ve been stuck with it because it’s somewhat efficient more or less everywhere. -And I still continue with it just to not look like those mindless greatsword-spinning simpletons, to hell with their stuck-up comments on which we’re useless, if they don’t want to know everything they’re missing it’s not my kitten problem.
-I get the chance to own a HUGE variety of different builds and combinations.
-It also gives me the ability to calm those snotty wannabe pr0 assassin Thieves 1v15 rather radically in PvP.
-Oh, although now it’s not much, I played Engi before it was cool.
Just because it’s named Thief, it still won’t prevent you from dressing in white and red with a hood and carry daggers, as much as it won’t prevent me from hunting you down across the map and even through the ennemy territory if needed. It definitely could use some more utility and less pigeonholing though.

Power Vitality Toughness in that case.
