Greens… the minor sigil usually sells for like 20c. not really worth spending 61c for a better chance at getting it. now, there are some more expensive minor sigils and runes. I doubt you’d see many of them, otherwise they wouldn’t be expensive. the socket would have to be worth more than 1s to merit using a MSK on it (80% vs. basic’s 20% = 60 difference. 61c cost / 0.6 = 1s02c)
that leads me to another reason why you should only use MSK on rares. at least only rares with a socket, as all rare sockets are major runes/sigils which are worth ~4s.
white/blue/green) crude has a 10% chance of promotion, basic has a 12% chance. say you’re salvaging for mithril and only 1 ore/salvage (10% chance of ori). if you use a crude kit, that’s 40cx0.9 + 5sx0.1 = 86c. if you use a basic kit, that’s 40cx0.88 + 5sx0.12 = 95.2c (a 9.2c increase).
crude costs 2.13c per use and basic costs 3.52c per use (1.39c difference) so by using basic instead of crude, you make 7.81c more per salvage.
this is the best-case scenario. most salvages, the promotion is not much more expensive than the base. For all of those, crude is slightly better. However, we are talking like 1c per use here. even after 1,000 salvages, that’s only 10s less. the convenience of 25 charges instead of 15 probably makes up for that, depending on your opinion.
so, white/blue/green: crude or basic or copper SoM
rares level 67-) I would sell these on the TP or throw them into the MF with other low level rares, then probably salvage what comes out for ectos.
rares level 68+) If you have free mystic forge stones, use mystic salvage kits on these. If not, use master salvage kits. currently, the only reason you would want to use a BLSK on this is if you put a really expensive rune/sigil in it.
exotics) check the TP price of the exotic and what it is socketed with. If the item sells for more than the socket, sell it. If the socket + potential inscription/insignia sells for 12g or higher, use a BLSK on it. If the socket + potential inscription/insignia sells for less than 12g, use a MSK on it.
If you are overflowing with BLSK, I would still only recommend you use BLSK on expensive sockets – how expensive depends on how many BLSK you receive. You don’t want to use them all on 2g sockets then not have any when you do get a super-expensive one.
why 12g? at 17g/100 gems, BLSK cost 2g per use. It increases the chance of recovery from 80% to 100% so 20% of the socket’s value needs to be at least 2g to merit it’s use. 2g / 0.2 = 10g. I say 12g because BLSK also slightly increases how many ecto, inscription/insignia, and GoDM you get. I did the math on another post a few months ago (the gem price back then was about 12g80c)
In general, the limit is at 70% of the price of 100 gems. 17g * 0.7 = 11g90c
(edited by Mystic.5934)
couldn’t agree more. 60c per use would put it in line with the copper SoM (only a few percent lower than what it replaces, so would take 10 years to recoup the cost). As is, there’s no reason to use it. no one gets enough rares that they can’t visit a merchant before they need to.
~grumblegrumble~
mystic kits are NOT 10c per use. at current prices, it’s closer to 10s per use. which puts silver SoM at 1/10 that price. the only reason you’re saying 10c is because you don’t salvage enough rares. in which case, why do you care?
more importantly is that it costs more than the master SK (61c per use). If the silver SoM cost 60c per use it would be perfect.
it usually doesn’t matter, but might come up (if you want to do wvw, for example): what server did you join?
we have a winner!
actually, that would probably be pretty good to farm. since these bags are so expensive, and in my mind they drop like candy from a hotdog stand at that location, you can probably make some serious coin. but only for a little while before you get too high a level. any idea what the level range would be? 16-24?
come to think of it, I bet it drops from any skritt if the character is that level? so level 20 character killing level 30 skritt? except that is hard to do anywhere except wvw.
(edited by Mystic.5934)
Yes and no… to be really accurate, you do need 1000+ as you point out, but just to get a “good enough” idea of the expected value you only need to be in the hundreds. When you have 100 of everything you get a good baseline of what warrants going up to 1000, and that points you to what to push for 10,000. Of course, supply is also an issue, so even if I really wanted 10,000 of every bag, getting them is going to be a very slow process unless I’m willing to dump a lot of gold at the problem. Even though there appears to be no supply for this bag, if I started putting in 1g buy orders I could imagine that they would suddenly start falling into my lap. Hehehe actually if I had money to throw around I might consider trying that experiment some day. If you notice the price of this bag suddenly spiking to 1g, it’s probably me.
yes and no. Skritt bags are notorious for dropping a LOT of different items. Medium Bag of Skritt Shinies, for example, can drop 36 different materials. Some of those have as low as 0.2% chance to drop (1 every 500 bags). 100 bags will give an idea, but I doubt you’ll even see everything that is possible to drop from them. Still, it’s a start.
might I suggest testing it on something that won’t give ore and wood? would be easier to record and less confusing to quick readers.
Hammer, Harpoon Gun, Spear, Axe, Mace, Pixtol, Rifle, Shield give ore and wood.
long bow, short bow, staff, trident, scepter, torch, focus give only wood
greatsword, sword, dagger, warhorn give only ore
from a cost and return point of view, I would recommend trident, long bow, short bow, or staff. They give the most materials and generally aren’t overpriced.
mystic kits… currently they either cost 10.5c per use or they cost 10s per use.
With so many forge stones falling out of achievement chests, 90% of players get enough to make all the mystic kits they need (I salvage more rares than the average person, and my stone income is higher than my mystic kit usage). So because of this, mystic kits are hella cheap at 10.5c per use.
however, they technically do cost gems. And if you either don’t get achievements or salvage a lot of rares, you would have to buy forge stones in order to make mystic kits, so then mystic kits cost 10s per use (with gems at 17g -> 100 gems).
I think you can’t just blanket say that they cost 10.5c.
either way, you don’t price it for the gem store item. you price it for the vendor item: master kit. silver SoM should be 60c per use.
btw, have we tested that silver SoM has the same returns as master and mystic? (remember when copper SoM was broken and had similar returns to master kit?)
I’m pretty sure if you bind eternity you will get sunrise , twilight, dusk, and dawn unlocked in your wardrobe. Eternity is so cheap because people want those other 4, then recoup some of their cost.
Just buying it won’t do anything, you have to remove it from the market via account-binding, selling to a vendor, salvaging, or throwing into mystic forge.
Wanze measured (1000 salvages each):
crude = 10.5%
salvage-o-matic = 12.5%
basic = 13%
fine = 12.3%
journeyman = 15.1%
master = 15.1%
mystic = 17.8%
FGS champ train. Is WP cost included in the gold/hour calculation?
You know, I don’t believe it is. That’s one of the few parts of this that I didn’t directly test myself; I just included it because it’s a viable thing to do. I went off other people’s reports, and I doubt they included WP costs (they probably just counted up their bags and loot). It’s a fairly short distance, but still each jump would cost around 1s50c x 3 WPs = 4s50c. Each lap takes maybe 10 minutes? probably under that. If 6 laps/hour, then WP costs will be 27s. Out of 5g, that’s not a big deal.
it’s closer to: base 10% chance of higher tier, then crude adds 0% to that, basic adds 10% for a total of 11%, master adds 25% for a total of 12.5%, etc.
Wanze’s link was a wonderful discusson on this.
4) Luck Salvaging
5) Bags
6) Precursor Crafting
TLDR: All of these require time and effort; they are complicated and there is no short cut. If you’re not willing to do the necessary work, I recommend you do something more straight forward, such as Champ Train, Dungeons, or World Bosses. Pretty much all the stuff in Section C) Producing your own gold / farming
That’s everything I can think of. If you have find an error or have comments about this, or have suggestions, let me know!

I realized I was always answer the same question: “how do you make gold?”, and wanted to share some knowledge, so I decided to make one thorough walkthrough and just direct people here instead.
(TLDR at the bottom)
Section A) Table of Contents
Section B ) General Tips
1) Almost always buy through buy orders and sell through sell listings. It takes longer, but it saves you gold. Also typically, undercut and overcut by 1c. The only times you don’t want to follow this are when buy order and sell listing are very close together, or the item is overpriced and you would end up relisting it.
2) Grouping several gold-producing methods together makes them more effective. This saves the 15% TP tax and gives you higher profits.
3) For how much gold you have I recommend different proportions of TP investments:
<100g = 100% instant profits (meaning you buy and sell in about a day)
100g – 500g = 90% instant + 10% long-term
500g – 1000g = 75% instant + 25% long-term
1000g – 5000g = 60% instant + 40% long-term
>5000g = ~3000g instant + rest in long-term
I would recommend you always plan to keep at least ~10g+1% on hand. This is a buffer, in case you need to pay listing fees, or relist, or you spot a really good deal, etc.
This is, of course, dependent on your preferences.
Section C) Producing your own gold (farming)
1) Guild Commendations
2) Daily Dungeons
3) World Bosses
4) Harvesting
5) Champ trains

So holding onto and selling the crafting mats (T5 and T6) would be better than using the T5s to craft and throwing the items crafted into the forge?
yup yup.
I will point out that some people get enjoyment out of gambling. If you do, gambling for a precursor might be worth it. But don’t do it because it would be cheaper – because it isn’t – do it for the fun of doing it.
for some precursors, sometimes it is profitable to craft precursors. right now, not many are
I’m in the process of adding guaranteed crafted things to this, but so far it just weighs it so crafted things are more likely to be included. crafted items cost at least 25% more if it’s saying non-crafted is cheaper. so to craft the items you throw in, it would cost closer to 1229g (if you bought them). since you’re talking about finding them, you’d still be better off selling the materials for 1044g after tax and buying the precursor.
the current cheapest combination of items to get Tooth of Frostfang will cost on average 922g to get Tooth of Frostfang. Since it currently only costs 828g to buy from the TP, I recommend just buying it.
If you do want to try your luck:
Carrion Verdant Axe of Corruption, Rare 67, buy for 18s2c
Berserker’s Iron Axe of Smoldering, Rare 80, buy for 35s11c
Berserker’s Iron Axe of Smoldering, Rare 80, buy for 35s11c
Dire Aureate Axe of Energy, Rare 74, buy for 29s78c
It is just baffling, to me, that making a vote-to-kick require more than two players is somehow a big deal. But of course, I am not a coder so I really don’t know what is involved. I’ll have to give this one the benefit of the doubt.
I totally understand why it would be. first, you have to record the second vote rather than have that second vote initiate the kick. then you have to be sure the 3rd vote wasn’t done by one of the first 2. You basically have to redesign the kicking system.
I wouldn’t expect it to take days, but I can see why it would take more than a few hours, while that debug message turned into LFG message could probably be done in minutes since it’s something that’s already in the game, that just needs to be enabled for this purpose.
I do not envy people that don’t already have this. I got it when they drastically reduced SB life temporarily (I think it was an accident? some sort of scaling issue). not only did the massive zerg kill the portals in under 4 seconds, but SB itself was killed in under 20 seconds. some world bosses used to be MUCH easier to kill.
then again… anyone remember fire elemental the first few months after release? those fire balls that hit you before the red circle appeared, hit for 3/4 of your health, had a 3 second stun after the knock back, and hit every 2 seconds? ah the good ol’ days!
could be: 90s per hour >>> 1g90s per day
could be: someone trying to scare you away from their niche
could be: someone selling 2 to a buy order that only wanted 1, so the 2nd one becomes listed at that buy order price
could be: they’ve relisted it 8 times in the past week and really want it gone
could be: they got it as a drop instead of crafting and have no idea how much it’s worth but listed it for half way between buy and sell to be sure it sells without needing to relist
so it went from way OP to UP? sadly, it will never be fixed now that it’s there. not enough pressing attention (instead of “mom, check this out!” it’ll be “what birthday food?”).
I made this suggestion a few days ago:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Dishonorable-in-PvE/first#post4321284
TLDR: If you kick a lot of people in a short period of time, you are no longer able to be in a lfg party for a few days.
I also would like to know which mobs feedback actually works on.
As I mentioned in my thread on the topic, it would be great to have the number of needed kick votes increased to 3, to minimize griefing resulting from this change. Personally I always started my own dungeon parties to avoid kick-happy couples. Now there’s nothing to kep me safe. 2 votes have always been a bad idea, anyway. Not even a majority.
I would also like to see the ability to vote ‘no’ on a kick. several times I’ve had someone suggest a kick, and everyone asks “why?” then the option to kick just sits there, able to be accidentally clicked during a boss fight.
Take it to support the thread will be deleted if you keep it up.
I hate how true this is.
where was this said? is it already in the game or planned for that feature pack? too good to be true.
as for where, the entrance is one of those waterfalls, the one near the Crown Pavilion Waypoint in Divinity’s Reach
It’s located on the left side at 9 o-clock, mid way between the middle and outside. (used to be called ’The Great Collapse")
I bumped the buy prices up to 10s yesterday for science. I’m at work atm, but looking at spidy, 26 of these might of gone through around 6 am (pacific).
edit: on second look, looks like I was actually outbid at the same time the buy order demand went down. probably more likely someone removed their old bid and put a new smaller one 1c above mine.
Eggman, looks like this might not get researched
(edited by Mystic.5934)
they get 1 debuf. nothing happens to them. they would need 4 more to even notice it. on the 4th and 5th there might even be a warning. could even include a thing where you can’t rejoin a party with that player for x number of days unless they invite you. it would take a LOT of trolls to actually do anything here, as that player would have to be trolled by 4 others within 3 days to have anything happen. If there are even more trolls, this player could just ask the other 2 players in the party to kick the jerk.
I imagine the ban from joining parties once you do get 5 would only apply to the next party, not the current party they are in.btw: dishonorable has already been in competitive pvp for over a year. you could go troll people there if you want to prove your point.
just like how there are legitimate reasons to leave a pvp game, there are legitimate reasons to kick someone. the point is to punish those who abuse it.Then they’ll join the group five times. Or however many times it takes to make themselves immune from being kicked.
see bolded.
also, nothing about this would make someone immune from being kicked. the only possible affect of this would be to prevent the person who is doing the kicking from being in a lfg party for a few days.
welcome
regarding professions, pick one that you like playing. all are good at everything. the only reason everyone says to go warrior is because it’s the most straight-forward faceplant profession (just run at enemy and mash all the keys) – it’s the easiest to do good in. If I were to rank the professions in ease-of-learning and complexity, I would say:
warrior (easiest / most simple)
guardian
ranger
thief
necro
engineer
mesmer
elementalist (hardest / most complex)
99.99% chance of troll
0.01% chance he is disgruntled and reported you to Anet, in which case nothing will happen to you.
0.0000000000000000000% chance he actually represents Anet
I agree that you should report him for impersonating Anet. worst thing that will happen from that is nothing.
You should also black out his name from the picture you post here, as well as in your post (in your report to Anet, you can send the non-blacked-out version). Even as a public service announcement, you’re not allowed to name people, because it would be too easy to falsely do this and ruin someone’s reputation, and start wars, etc. If you were allowed to name him, he would be allowed to name you – do you really want him able to tell people you’re purposefully feeding enemy zergs and rigging matches? I’m sure he doesn’t care about his reputation, but you probably do.
fyi: EotM is not part of WvW matches.
(edited by Mystic.5934)
btw: this error is not caused by any problem. there is no cure. re-installing the game won’t help, relogging won’t help. praying to Cthulhu won’t help. It happens when you sell things too quickly (like 7 things in under 30 seconds) and is the worst implementation of whatever-it-is-trying-to-do I have ever seen.
a couple months ago, when asked about this error, a developer said “yeah, we finally found that bug, it will be fixed soon.” haven’t heard anything more about it than that.
oh, you wrote something then edited it to “never mind, I’m an idiot.”? I didn’t see that and thought you were talking about your post above that started with “79 hours, 1.795 million. There was three notable sell offs….” :P
the delay when buying is very brief and only on buy orders. you enter the amount you want, price, then click ‘Buy’ as many times as you can as quickly as you can. wood pecker-style. It might be latency that causes it? it’s also possible to keybind left-click to your mouse wheel and get a few more than 4 clicks in, though the legality of this is questionable.
http://www.gw2tp.com/item/13553-amethyst-gold-earring
Where the GW2Spidy reported cost is 33.68s and high bid is 33.83s. Good luck selling it at 64.74s GW2Spidy has as low sell offer for the 21s profit.
scroll down that page a bit. the supply is constantly changing, going up and down. that means it actually is selling at 64s74c. when supply goes up, 99% of the time that’s because someone listed one. when supply goes down, 99% of the time that’s because someone bought one. just in the last 24 hours, the supply went down 21 times. so 21 purchases in the past 24 hours.
superior rune of mesmer does benefit mesmer. more mesmer skills are benefitted from it than any other profession (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Daze). it increases the daze duration of chaos storm, counter blade, magic bullet, power lock, diversion (shatter). but don’t just use it because it’s the rune of your profession – use the runes if these are the skills you want to use.
I would say this rune set is more useful in pvp than wvw. daze would be a better 1v1 ability, but wvw is usually zerg vs. zerg. in 1v1, it’s very powerful to prevent the opponent from doing anything for a few seconds. effectively becomes 1v0. in a zerg battle, it would become 50v49. not exactly a large difference.
non-berserker builds DO work well. berserker is just the simplest. If you want to run in there and just mash all the keys (faceplant), berserker is the best. If you want to live long enough to pick up loot, I recommend something more tanky. Also, conditions do VERY well against other players, just not so good against a zerg. but, again, you need to spec your entire build around conditions if that’s the route you want to go. You will be most effective if you pick 1 thing to be great at rather than 2 or 3 things to be ok at. (berserker is good at pure direct damage, but horrible at conditions and surviving)
It’s only profitable if someone buys it at that price.
Ignoring the legendary weapons, the two beaded weapons require a karma bought material (1575 Karma each) that you need to unlock the seller, plus it’s a pain because you need to click 75 times per Sun Bead. The high bid for those two items are in the 30-35s range.
The other four require dungeon bought items as one of the ingredients which is why the coin cost of mats is so low.
I am fully aware of this
OP just wanted the highest profit. he even said he’s made Mystic items, so non-purchasables are clearly on the table with this question.
I mostly provided that to show the question needs some work. what the most profitable thing is changes every day, and the things that were profitable yesterday might be costly today. It’s sometimes worse if you make something when it’s super profitable, because then the price will just drop and drop and drop back to normal, and you’re stuck relisting it 6 times. And as you said: knowing an item is very profitable doesn’t help much when you need to run a dungeon 4 times over 2 days just to be able to make one, or need a recipe that you can only get as a rare drop. I’ll even point out that if you don’t use dungeon tokens to craft these items, you’d use them to get ectos or something, so you’d have to compare this profit to how much you would normally get, and that might make this not nearly as attractive.
@OP: I bet if you PM most of us who have replied, we’d be willing to provide you some assistance in figuring out your investment niche.
+1
never mind, I’m an idiot.
I hate when I spend like 20 min writing something really elegant and referenced, then realize it doesn’t need to be said or I misunderstood what OP meant. I’m not sure why/what you’re redacting, though?
about 10 months ago I was surprised to find two of my bank characters had birthdays. fun times. this is why you should use alts for banks if you dont want to play them anymore, instead of deleting them.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Container
the fact that it’s listed under “Miscellaneous” instead of “Tier 1-2” or “Tier 2” leads me to believe it’s a special bag that doesn’t fit into normal bag drop schemes. The skritt burglar might fit this.
you could try placing buy orders for ~20s. the drastic uppercutting might encourage people to sell theirs or find a way to farm it.
Is it even possible for one person to buy 2 million of something (at 250 per click max, no?) without a macro?
yes. let’s say 1 click a second, 250 per click, that’s 8000 seconds = 133 minutes = 2.22 hours. but there’s that latency bug/feature, the one where you click buy really fast and it places 4 orders at once. with that, you can do like 4 stacks per second = 33 minutes.
When I’m placing buy orders for tens of thousands of crafting materials when I do my crafting, I just put a movie on. simple/action movies are the best so you don’t have to pay a lot of attention.
they get 1 debuf. nothing happens to them. they would need 4 more to even notice it. on the 4th and 5th there might even be a warning. could even include a thing where you can’t rejoin a party with that player for x number of days unless they invite you. it would take a LOT of trolls to actually do anything here, as that player would have to be trolled by 4 others within 3 days to have anything happen. just like how there are legitimate reasons to leave a pvp game, there are legitimate reasons to kick someone. the point is to punish those who abuse it.
the only way to fix it is to reduce upscaling. if more players actually made the event succeed quicker, these leeches would be better off helping and making the event end sooner, so they can then do another event.
they never change anything retroactively unless it’s a problem. usually there is a small reason for it: if they change bolts of silk to require 3 scraps instead of 2, that unfairly gives advantage to someone who refined their material early. in the short-term, it causes a bit of havoc. pretty quickly you forget it even happened. IMO, temporary upsets like that are a small price to pay for a fair and sensible game. This is also why I disagree with all time-gated crafting in this game.
Current top-6 most profitable things to craft and top-2 legendaries: (I take percent profit and actual profit into consideration; so spending 2k gold to make 500g profit is lower down the list than spending 100g to make 400g profit)
Ring of Blood – cost 50s16c, sell for 9g90s32c (1578%)
Vallog’s Demise – cost 40s85c, sell for 6g49s95c (1252%)
Koda’s Gift – cost 40s85c, sell for 6g40s62c (1233%)
The Zealot’s Amulet – cost 59s86c, sell for 7g97s84c (1033%)
Rabid Beaded firearm – cost 6s12c, sell for 83s74c (1063%)
Rabid Beaded Trident – cost 5s91c, sell for 79s97c (1050%)
The Bifrost – cost 2474g, sell for 4099g (41%)
Bolt – cost 2732g, sell for 4343g (35%)
not a bad idea at all.
decimal places might make it tricky (buying a 40s ecto for 1 gem). I’m guessing it would just give you the difference as money in your bank like how buyiny/selling gems currently does. (if you say you want to buy 1g worth of gems, you might get 6 gems, but you’ll also only spend 97s50c)
I’m not suggesting the one who gets kicked gets the penalty – I’m saying the person who suggested to kick them and the person who seconded the kick get the penalty.
And it’s 5 for a reason: sometimes there are people who deserve to be kicked, so you are able to kick them. But if you are kicking 5 people in 3 days, 999 times out of 1000, it’s you who is the problem.
Personally, I’ve only ever suggested or seconded about 20 kicks in the almost 2 years I’ve played (thousands of dungeon runs) If you are not the problem, you won’t be getting anywhere near this limit.
and other time at end of an arah path I was selling
lol! they probably never realized the real reason they were also kicked from the dungeon.
