Dishonorable in PvE

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Mystic.5934

I just found out about the dishonorable debuff for leaving ranked PvP matches early.
why are we not using these in PvE? specifically, parties. everyone has been complaining for 2 years about getting booted from a party just before the boss fight to make room for someone’s friend.
Booting someone mid-instance could add a dishonorable stack (does not apply to open world or WvW parties). when you get 5, you can’t join or start a pug/lfg party (you could still be in a party with only friends and guildies) if the person is offline or not in the instance, it wouldn’t add a stack. won’t completely stop griefing, but it would reduce it.

maybe someone had a chest listed at 30c they REALLY wanted to sell, so they bought all the supply that was less than that.
on that topic, how would the TP respond to you buying your own listing? would you have to pay final sale fee or would it just count as removing your item from the TP?

as I remember the latest release of SAB, baubles were basically useless. they could be exchanged for extra lives, and bauble bubbles. it took like 10 bubbles to buy a skin. besides that, there were no uses. I just remember the first release, you could also buy like obsidian shards and other good stuff with them.

Umm I dunno how to tell you this, but…

They may have male and female parts, but among most plants, the organism as a whole does not have separate sexes.

I’m aware that there are some plants (not the majority, however) where there are actually males and females.

oh good! cause I didn’t know how to describe it, either!

I would guess female. just because I pronounce it maw-dree. which rhymes with audrey, which is a girl’s name.

Best way to obtain karma?

Mystic.5934

underleveled fractals gives the most, especially when you add the extra obby shards from relics. that table Astral linked… I love it. with boosters, underleveled fractals gives ~14,000 karma + ~12,000 karma’s worth of obby shards for a ~1 hour fractal run.
I’ve seen someone claim to get ~200k karma in 4 hours of EotM (with boosters), but I personally have a hard time believing it. either way, following a EotM train is at least in the top-2 karma incomes.

sometimes the daily activity can be a good karma income. I’ve heard some people camp out in southsun survival on really slow days. If you are the only person in the activity, you will be declared the winner after the ~2 minute safe time (when you can die and come back) and get 1,000 karma potion. add another minute for in between matches, and that’s around 20k karma/hour.

Key farm in PVP (Idea)

in Black Lion Trading Co

Mystic.5934

I use to get keys often from
*map completes
*random drops
*and from chests.

still do, no change
still do, no change
vastly reduced but doesn’t really count for obvious reasons. can’t have a free key without a key first.

map completion gives the same number of keys as it’s always given. I just completed it on a character and got about 10 keys total. how many zones are there? like 40? it’s something like a 25% drop rate.

however, I found more keys from random drops in the first 2 months of playing than I have received/bought in the subsequent 1.8 years. they used to drop as frequently as dandelion junk. you would get more from killing the mobs while doing map completion than you would from actually completing the map. After my first character did their map completion, I had 20 of each booster and more BLSK than would fit in a bank tab. I had to use the BLSK on rares because I had so many and thought I’d never use them all. then they nerfed the drop rate. except ‘nerf’ isn’t strong enough of a word. If nerfing turns a sword into a wiffle bat, then they etherealed the drop rate. for the sword analogy, they turned a sword into you blowing air on your enemy. drop rate went from 1/hour to 1/year.

I’ve never got a key from a chest, so iuno which chests you’re referring to.

It does seem like pvp has little if any opportunities to get keys. they should have similar chances as pve.

Gems:Gold vs. Gold:Gems

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Mystic.5934

Mystic.5934

if they really want more money, they should make the gem->gold exchange higher so ppl can buy gems with real money and get a real profit.
and if the really want to cash in, make a different kind of gems that you buy with real money so the gold->gem exchange can’t be exploited that way.

i will never ever exchange my gems, gems i bought with hard earned money, for a lousy amount of gold.
if it’s 100 gems for 100 gold then i see something good in it (still not much but better), for now 100 gems gives me a pathetic 9-ish gold.

good points!
one problem with giving more for gems → gold: buy 100 gems with 12g, sell 100 gems for 14g. It just wouldn’t work.
the 2nd part… that is why there is gem inflation. 99% of people that buy gems spend the gems at the gem store. very few people buy gems to trade for gold. the only way for the gold → gem price to go down is for people to sell gems for gold, which just doesn’t look attractive because of the 28% less gold for those gems. I’ve said before that the gem exchange just seems like a ripoff because of that difference (I do understand and agree with the need for the difference), but it just makes gold sellers look more legitimate because it doesn’t look like they are trying to rip you off. the gem exchange looks like it’s cheating you if you want gold for $$. there wouldn’t be gem inflation if they reduced it to a 5% or 10% price difference.

think of how many times pvp players complain about being unable to get pve skins. legendaries. living story backpacks. crafting. pvp players tend to want nothing to do with any of that, yet they are forced to do it if they want it. just like you are forced to win pvp tournaments to get this armor.
I’m glad they are finally adding something legendary. current legendaries are so… mainstream. I much prefer having something no one else can have. doesn’t matter if I don’t have it or probably ever will, because it’s still exiting as it’s something unique and not cookie cutter.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Zealot's_Intricate_Gossamer_Insignia
once you have the recipe, give it to one of your characters that has level 400 armorsmith, leatherworker, or tailor (in your case, level 400 armorsmith). when this character uses that recipe item, the character will learn the recipe and can make it on any of those disciplines. after that, you just find the recipe in the crafting page and craft it.

since you then want to make the Zealot’s Draconic Helm, you will also need to buy that recipe from the TP, use that item on your 400 armorsmith character, then craft the helm (ori helm casing + ori helm lining + zealot gossamer insignia)

well, ‘profit’ is misleading here. what you’re doing is turning SP into gold. I wouldn’t exactly call that ‘profit’. In general, core → lodestone conversion is one of the lower returns.
to answer your question:
charged gives about 10s/SP
corrupted gives about 26s/SP
destroyer gives about 29s/SP
molten gives about 51s/SP
onyx gives about 56s/SP

some better returns (1-4g/SP) can be had from promoting refined materials. especially T1→T2. It’s a bit more time consuming, but more rewarding.

Mystic.5934

The ecto rate has not been modified.

History tells us that until you go and test this, you can be wrong on this statement. Did you run actual salvage tests to confirm this statement?

I would think looking at the code is enough.

JS would be the wrong person to ask/answer then. Kinda like asking a professional wrestler if there’s something wrong with the space shuttle launch program.

O.o more like asking the operations director how many bolts were used. From what I can tell, JS deals with policy, while source code would be implementation.

looking at source code can be… deceptive. it’s too easy to have a typo you don’t see and completely throw everything off. Sometimes the typo isn’t even at the spot where the result is! Like you might have a magic_find variable, at one spot it’s called to display it on your hero screen, but accidently is set to negative what it should be, then the next spot down the page uses the negative value and you get very few exotics, even though the drop rate is working perfectly if only the magic_find variable were set right.

Posted by: Mystic.5934

Mystic.5934

most people are bothered by it because they see it as: if this person is making gold, that gold is coming from somewhere, and since I’m not making gold, it must be coming from me.

No, the reason flipping is disliked by people is that it is a form of PvP where the flippers are making their gold by ganking TP noobs. It has no effect on me since I always use my own buy/sell orders, but flippers are only able to make their gold because new/ignorant players don’t know how to use the TP properly. It has nothing to do with knowing the market, being compensated for the service of providing liquidity, or impatient buyers/sellers. The TP would operate efficiently without any flippers. That is the whole point of having a game-wide TP in the first place.

So people hate on TP flippers because they are competition for them?
It seems absurd to think the vast majority of TP users are new/ignorant players. Impatient; sure. But not new and certainly not ignorant of how it works.
TP flippers do make their profit off the impatience of others, by taking the waiting time onto themselves, and getting paid to wait.
You just said you place orders on the TP, so that would make you a TP flipper. It might not be the same items, but if you are placing buy orders and sell listing for things, you are doing exactly what TP flippers are doing. TP flippers buy with buy orders and sell with sell listings and bring the two closer. How many items that you interact with on the TP does that not happen to? TP flippers will never place a buy order and a sell listing – it’s always one or the other. At any one time, they are either raising the buy order price (like you do when buying stuff), or reducing the sell listing price (like you do when selling stuff). The end result of both is price equilibrium.
I guess that does go back to the first point about competition.
It would be pretty funny if they banned all the TP flippers, because that would be everyone who ever both placed buy orders and sell listings. The only way not to be banned would be to pick one and stick with it. hehe: half the players can only place buy orders and sell to other buy orders, the other half can only place sell listings and buy from other sell listings.

It’s my opinion that ALL account bound/soulbound items should be sellable to vendors, even if it’s for a measly 3 or 4 copper each. Destroying loot should never be your only option.

that was very well said.

I would recommend against refining them. There’s a good chance any drain to these materials will call for the basic material and not the refined version. just look at how many uses the basic has vs. the refined:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Pile_of_Bloodstone_Dust (~12)
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bloodstone_Brick (~5)

huh. I didn’t know there was a recipe to turn bloodstone brick into bloodstone dust…
100 dust + 2 obby shard + 10 reagent = 1 brick
1 brick + 1 dust + 1 essence of luck + 1 mystic coin = 250 dust
It even increases how much dust you have. but at the cost of a lot of karma and a little coin.

Precursors price

selling them for going rate is also fine. it’s all the salvaging that’s driving the prices up.
I think it will go back down – when everyone gets all the skins. You can see that ectos are cheaper than a lot of rares – that’s proof enough right there that rares are overpriced. and because rares are overpriced, that makes precursors overpriced.

Precursors price

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Mystic.5934

Mystic.5934

Precursors went up in price because the cost to forge them went up. With the Wardrobe, a lot of rares and exotics doubled in price. So the cost to forge precursors doubled in price. So the cost of precursors doubled in price.
As people complete their skin library, they’ll sell more rares and exotics to the TP and prices will go down again. It’ll take a while, but it’ll happen. If you want to speed it along, you should sell all the rares and exotics you find for 30s.
Wish I had realized this would happen back when I noticed rares and exotics costing a lot more.

i know you guys will say “idiot, why didnt you just gold farm the difference and buy the legend” to me it feels cheap to buy a precursor. I dont think precursor’s or legendaries should be sold on the TP.

if they weren’t sellable, you wouldn’t of had that 1000g. precursors drop rate is too rare to only be random drops, even if you got the precursor of your choice.

by my calculations, The Legend currently takes about 1,429g60s14c to forge. I’m not sure how much you were paying per rare (or did you use exotics?), but I’m just pointing out that at best you had about a 70% chance of getting it with 1000g.

[Suggestion] Precursor for Laurels

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mystic.5934

Mystic.5934

I’m glad you’re realistic about how many laurels they should charge for a precursor. most people that suggest something like this quote around 100 laurels per precursor.
I’ll note that right now: 1 laurel = 3 T6 mats = ~1g. so 1000 laurel = 1000g = ~1 precursor
so it would be a fair rate, at least right now. T6 mats are higher now than normal, so in the future 1000 laurels would be maybe 700g while precursors would be 1500. something to consider.

But beyond that, while I agree that it would shut people up about demanding an alternative to grinding gold and buying from the TP, a lot would complain about how unreasonable the price is; how it would take 2 years to save up for it, and who has the patience for that, yada yada yada. Judging from recent overpriced items, that complaining should last about 2 weeks. then they would turn into that sad OK guy.

All in all, I would say this implementation would be good only if Anet wanted to stop people from demanding the ability to buy precursors outright. It should not be interpreted as an honest update. Because of this, I would recommend against the OPs suggestion. My reason? it’s the easy way out. If they let them be laurel purchasable, then they wouldn’t work on a real way to get them non-TP. You’re not going to get both worlds, so wouldn’t you prefer a world where you have to wait longer to get something actually useful rather than something asap that is not useful?
