you can buy exotics for less than 1g. that means you’re paying 210 dungeon tokens for 1g’s worth (it’s less than this, but this makes the math cleaner).
instead, you could pay 30 dungeon tokens for a rare and salvage it into about 0.85 ectos. at 40s/ecto, to get 1g’s worth (after TP tax) would only take 103 dungeon tokens. That’s more than twice the value.
So I would highly recommend spending dungeon tokens on level 68+ rares, salvage that, then sell the ectos (or use them for something else). If the dungeon doesn’t have level 68+ rares, buy exotics that can give inscriptions/insignia: Soldier (Ptv), Rabid (Cprt), Dire (Ctv), Cavalier (Tpf), Sentinel (Vpt), Shaman (Vch), or Magi (Hpv). Salvaging exotics give a little less than Rares

I thought the “this will break 3rd party sites that use the API” and “we encourage the use of the API” were funny contradicting things to say.
I expect they meant something more like “this will break 3rd party sites that use the API until they update their variable names” or something like that. As they said it, it sounded like the Trading Post API would be kaput.

I’ll admit I’ll have to buy dungeon paths (if I can) since I’ve never done Twilight Arbor, and I don’t usually have a lot of time to do dungeons, and I can’t be on TS, which is a hinderance.

you can make a party named something like “TA newbie, please teach” and people will join who will be willing to help you. also other newbies will join :P it will take longer than normal, but hang in there and listen to someone who’s done it before. Should only take 1 run through before you will be confident enough to join normal parties named “TA up path”.

My suggested order of things to get:
1) Gift of Battle (Badges from WvW) + Bloodstone Shard (200 SP) + Gift of Exploration (Map Completion)
2) Mystic Clovers (Karma + SP)
3) Gift of Mastery (Karma)
4) Gift of Dungeon (a dungeon’s tokens)
5) 100 Icy Runestones + Precursor (gold)
6) Gift of Legendary + Gift of Magic + Gift of Might + Gift of Fortune (materials)
7) Legendary

I would adjust this on a per-player need. The idea is to get everything at the same time: get gold while you get karma and sp, run the dungeon while you get T6 mats, etc. It won’t look like much progress at first, but then everything will come together really quick.

gamble for precursor if you like to gamble. do not do it to try and save money. by my calculations, it will currently cost you 1600g to craft Dawn (vs. buying on the TP for 1000g)

“Is the sell limit still enforced?”
“Yes. The sell limit is still enforced … so that bots do not take over our game unfortunately”

RAWR! are you kidding me? I thought this was finally admitted to be a hard-to-find bug??? I hope it is at least improved, because as it currently is implemented, it encourages bots because bots can post hundreds of times as many listings as a normal player. I’m just going to assume you haven’t read my previous reasons why this could not possibly be the reason this error is there:
A bot would be programed to list 5 things, wait 30 seconds, list 5 things, wait, etc. 14,400 listings per day, minimum. A human would list 5 things, get an error, swear, log off. let’s say the human is really determined and they might list 200 things in a day. bot lists 50-1,000 times as many things.
If I were able to make a bot, I would, just so I wouldn’t have to deal with this “anti-bot” measure. An anti-bot attempt should not be making me feel that way.

an example of a useful sell limit (as in humans never notice it and bots hate it):
no more than 1 listing every 2 seconds and no more than 500 listings per day. better yet: if they go over 300-1000 in a day (change this number so it’s unpredictable), they are flagged for review and banned as a bot (without any block while they are listing)

as an aside: Did you see the background? clifford was walking around. It’s not just zoomed it, cause there was also a regular cat. can we have this tonic? probably an account-bound rare drop from a special event, like finding the kitten room then solving a puzzle in it.

use a master kit to salvage ecto. zero reason not to.
with SoM: costs 3c, gives 1.62 dust. let’s say dust sells for 20s, that’s 32s40c returned
with MSK: costs 61c, gives 1.84 dust. at 20s/dust, that’s 36s80c returned.
So MSK gives 3s80c more than SoM (and basic), even after including the cost of the kit.

Mystic kits are only good to use in place of master if you have free forge stones, in which case the cost of MSK drops to like 10c per use.

Except 18% mark up is already a 3% profit, so it’s misleading.

Actually, it’s not a 3% profit. I’m going off of total cost.

Let’s say that you have an item that costs 6.5 gold to make. At what selling point would you have to price it to break even?

If you take 6.5 and multiply it by 1.1765 you will get 7.6471 gold. You can double check the math by multiplying 7.6471 by 85% which is 6.5. So 7.6471 gold is your break even selling price.

So if you personally have been selling items where the difference between cost and the selling price is less than 17.6471%, you’ve been losing money as you’re ignoring the compounding factor.

6.5g / 0.85 = what selling point you can sell at to break even (7g64s71c)
“0.85” is much easier to remember than “1.1765”
just to make your life easier

My question for John Smith is….

Does this overhaul remove the “Error Attempting to Sell” error?

I wouldn’t expect it. What they have showed us is mainly an overhaul of the UI, the
problem of the error however is more on the backend side of the SQL-Servers and
how they communicate from client/gameserver to webserver and back i think.

one of the suggested reasons for the “error” is to minimize server load spikes. They said this update will make the whole thing much more efficient. If this was a reason for the “error” (I doubt it), then there wouldn’t be a reason to have it anymore.

Also, a dev said a few months ago that they “found the bug causing that and it’ll be fixed soon”, so I’m hopeful.

It sounds like you already have the un-buyables (karma, map completion, SP, etc.), so I would recommend to make and sell it (don’t bind it if you aren’t going to use it). I can tell you that The Dreamer is currently looking at about 575g profit right now (3000g x 0.85 – buy_order_price_of_all_materials_that_went_into_it). looking at spidy, you could actually even wait a few days and sell it for 3300g (3 sold around 3300g in the last few days). that would increase the profit to 830g. It’s a little riskier at the higher price, but it has sold at that recently, so it’s not a very high risk.
The only reason I wouldn’t recommend this is if you wanted to make a different legendary, in which case I would say to sell The Lover and use that to buy the precursor of the legendary you want.

I expect you won’t be able to pick up items from ‘anywhere on the map’, but rather ‘anywhere on the TP’. that would make tp contracts (perma and one-time-use) completely useless.

buy the item once, it will go into your wardrobe and you can use it unlimited times on any character you have. however, each use will require a transmutation charge. you get more T charges through the gem store, map completion, opening black lion chests, and a few other places as well. depending how important looks are you to, you’ll either be overflowing with T charges or never have enough. But no matter what, they are far cheaper than whatever gem item you want to buy.
the caveat is that you apply that skin over another item. so if you buy belinda’s ninja sword, you can put it on a second character, but that second character needs to have a greatsword to put the skin onto that will overwrite the items original skin (these items are usually pretty cheap from the TP – exotics are around 1-3g from the TP)

Yup, I did make that. I tested the salvages of 1,000 ectos and got about 110,000 luck. (with mystic salvage kits) I wouldn’t call that definitive, but it was good enough for an estimate.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Glob_of_Ectoplasm/salvage_research says the average is 104.42 luck, based on 27,060 salvages, which gave 1.84 dust. The amount of luck you get seems to be consistent across all kit types, but the amount of dust you get increases with the kit (1.62 for Basic/C-SoM, 1.84 for M/M, 1.98 for BLSK). I didn’t know about this page until just now, so I’ll have to change my numbers a bit.

Rouven: are you asking OP? I would say once you reach 300% MF, you’re almost always better off selling the ecto than salvaging it into dust. You can always make a profit buying rares and salvaging into ecto. You can also make a profit buying and salvaging select blues and greens.

Don't Be Dumb About TP!

Mystic.5934

agree with wanze. all TP trades are good for the economy. even if they never get purchased.
better for the player? yeah, sell to a vendor if it’s 1c above merchant value.

on the other hand, some people list such a huge volume that it would literally add so much time to their routine that the 5c you might save is not worth their time to check if they would make more from a merchant or TP.
I run into this when I do crafting. I’ll craft like 300 things and list them all on the TP. Once upon a time I would check to be sure someone didn’t artificially deflate an item (if there is a buy order for 1 of something and you sell 2 to them, it will sell them 1 then list 1 at that price, thus lowering the sell listing price). Now I just sell everything without thinking about it, knowing that maybe 2-5 items are artificially deflated and I’m selling at a loss. But to get 1g more profit out of 500g total profit by spending 30 extra minutes double-checking every price? I’d much rather do it quicker and get slightly less out of it.

I farmed the dredge fractal with some guildies for a few hours about a year ago (before it was nerfed). We would do it quickly up until the clown car, finish off those mobs, then restart it. Each run took maybe 20-30 minutes and we got LOTS of heavy miner’s bags. lower level = faster but less bags, higher level = slower but more bags. Was always around 70 bags/hour. 6s/bag = 4.2g/hour just in bags (got other loot as well). Anyways, we also got lots of mists essences doing this (about 1 an hour). I would do what everyone else said: farm high-density fractals.
But not all mobs drop loot; I’m pretty sure it has to be able to drop loot to give you an essence. All of the dredge that do not spawn indefinitely will give loot (even the ones before those doors at the start). the ascalon fractal vets after the first gate and before the second will give loot. those are the big ones, some smaller ones: uncategorized fractal, the harpies give loot. snowblind fractal, the elementals give loot.

OP has a good advice about buying cheap rares to get ectos.

I don’t disagree with that. I disagree that you can earn enough from the salvage to keep doing it indefinitely and in the end still have your 50g.

In the end you need 4,295,450 EoL to reach 300%. The curve isn’t pretty.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:TotalLuckReq.png

It won’t happen quick. the more profit you want, the slower it’ll go. But since we’re just shooting for breaking even, it works well enough. It’s much slower than just buying ectos (maybe 1 day/stack of ectos?), but it’s profitable.
For a long time now (over a year), I’ve been making a profit from doing just this; buying rares and exotics and salvaging them and selling everything. Currently there are 665 rares that you can buy order, salvage with MSK, and sell the ecto and socket to make a >0% profit. And that’s with taking the 15% TP fee into account (since you’re planning on selling the dust, it should be). Also, 243 exotics that give >0% profit.

personally, I don’t have to deal with many discriminators. mostly because I don’t join parties titled “fotm 9 necro/engi only” or “AC1 15k+ AP required”. But also, whenever I see someone get kicked based on profession or noobieness, I leave. I do see plenty of those, so they do exist, just not to me.
A pleasant side-effect of not joining those parties is I have never been kicked myself. I read about people being kicked to make room for someone’s buddy all the time, yet I never experience it myself because I don’t associate with people that are likely to do that (ie, party snobs).
Anyways, if you are worried about not finding a party with any profession, don’t be. There are always parties to join no matter your profession or skill level. You just have to filter out the parties you don’t want to join.

this.
some of the more popular sigils and runes are better to sell on the TP, but most of the time it’s more profitable to throw them into the forge. it’s a gamble, but on average you tend to make more than just selling on the TP. how it works: 4 major sigils into the forge produces 1 random major sigil, with a 20% chance of 1 random superior sigil instead. on average, superiors sell for ~1g (some sell for 10g, some sell for 10s).

As someone who has perma contracts, I can guarantee you no one else can use the npc that plops down.
And as funny as it is to watch people run out of their way to get to the npc that won’t talk to them, I’ve been suggesting a few things for over a year:
1) don’t let other people see the npc at all (currently you can talk to it, but it just says something like ‘this belongs to someone else’)
2) don’t put a vendor icon on the mini map as a beacon calling all players to that location. while you’re at it, put a icon on the map for any guild banners.
3) I like the idea of making them all like the perma bank and perma MF: where there is no npc, but instead using the item just opens that window, then you close the window and it’s gone.
4) perma TP deliverer is actually a bit annoying to use. If you do #3 above, it would solve it. what happens is the npc dies and goes away after like 5 or 10 minutes. if you happen to have the TP open at the time, the window closes. so you basically have to open it, withdraw, close window, walk far enough away from it, open tp, yadiyadayada when you want to buy more things.
5) rename some of the contracts. (not the items you use to summon the npc; the contracts you get from BL chests that give you the items). TP and vendor are too similar (guess what “Permanent Black Lion Merchant Contract” summons? Then there’s “Permanent Trading Post Express Contract”). easiest would be to take “Black Lion” out of that name and maybe put it into the other.

It sounds like minis can work the old way, or you can choose to account-bind them and use them on all characters permanently.

a lot of conflicting statements here. I’ll add my own:
Buy Ecto, sell Dust = (buy ecto and salvage for 39s32c – 30s35c dust sale) = 0.74c per luck
Have Ecto, sell Ecto vs. sell Dust = (34s86c ecto sale – 29s74c salvage and dust sale) = 3.547c per luck
Buy Ecto vs. buy Dust, use Dust = (buy ecto and salvage for 39s32c – buy dust for 34s38c) = 4.491c per luck
Have Ecto, sell Ecto and buy Dust vs. salvage Ecto, use Dust = (34s86c ecto sale – buy dust for 34s38c + 61c salvage) = 0.997c per luck

this is using the current prices:
Ecto: 38s71c-41s2c
Dust: 19s10c-19s84c

salvaging rares for ectos then salvaging ectos for dust would fall under “have ecto, sell ecto vs. sell dust”. current that costs about 3.5c per luck. x110 luck per ecto = you currently get 3s85c less by salvaging the ecto into dust and selling the dust than you would just selling the ecto.
every now and then there is a negative cost per luck (meaning salvaging into dust gives more coin than the ecto). But unless you get lucky during one of those times, salvaging ectos will cost you about 2s per ecto.
On the other hand, salvaging ecto is hands down the fastest way to get luck. by about 2 orders of magnitude (ectos give 10x more, and you can buy 10x as many in the same time).
I would recommend salvaging blues and greens, and that will give you a profit which you can then use to salvage ecto. In the end you should be about even. maybe 10% of your luck will come from blues/greens and 90% from ectos.

OP has a good advice about buying cheap rares to get ectos.

Agony Resist on Back & Others

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mystic.5934

Mystic.5934

remember that you have up to 16 AR opportunities: 6 in armor, 2 in weapon, 2 for each ring and back, 1 for each accessory, 1 for amulet. maybe more? I’m going off memory here. If you put +5’s into all of those, that’s 80 AR. the current most you’ll ever need is 70. sure, some of those are more expensive than others (the non-agony-infusion slots will require +5 stat / +5 AR infusions, which cost around 30g I believe?), but you don’t need to spend 400g for seven +10 AR infusions to max out.

You seem to be unaware that you can only put +X Agony Infusions into Agony Infusion slots, and Agony Infusion slots are only found on Infused Rings, and Infused Back Items. Which means you can’t use 7 +10 AR infusions; you can only use 3 of them, and three +10s makes less sense than two +8’s and a +9, given where AR breakpoints exist.

No, I think Mystic knows what’s up… you still have slots on all the armor and weapons for other kinds of +5 infusions, so if you get full ascended armor and trinkets and weapons, you don’t even need to bother with agony infusions. They’re quite useful though.

thanks
to elaborate:
+10 AR infusion goes into an “agony infusion slot”
+5 stat / +5 AR infusion goes into “offense or defense infusion slot”
+5 AR versatile simple infusion goes into “offense or defense infusion slot”
+5 stat / 1% dmg to/from WvW guards infusion goes into “offense or defense infusion slot”
+4 stat infusion goes into “offense or defense infusion slot”
utility infusion goes into “utility infusion slot”

Ascended armor each has 1 defense infusion slot = +5 AR simple infusion x 6 = 30 AR
Ascended weapon has 2 total offense infusion slot = +5 AR simple infusion x 2 = 10 AR
infused ascended ring has 2 total offense/defense infusion + 2 Agony infusion slots = +5 AR simple infusion x 2 + +5 AR infusion x 2 = 20 AR
infused ascended back has 1 offense/defense infusion + 1 Agony infusion slots = +5 AR simple infusion + +5 AR infusion = 10 AR
ascended amulet has 1 offense/defense infusion = +5 AR simple infusion = 5 AR
ascended accessory has 2 total offense/defense infusion = +5 AR simple infusion x 2 = 10 AR
so that’s 85 AR total. looks like I forgot that you have 2 accessories in the last post. 17 potential slots total. remember that anything above 70 AR is useless right now (until they open FotM >50).

the +10 AR infusions (and others on the TP) can only be applied to the “Agony Infusion Slot” that only “infused” items have. currently only rings and back can be “infused”. Using these would let you have more slots available for a few extra stats instead of AR.
GDT for naming two totally isolated things ‘infusion’.

Suggestion: hire a guard

in WvW

Posted by: Mystic.5934

Mystic.5934

I think its not good idea. Guards are just visual effects against 10+ teams but can destroy good small scale fights

I was picturing a zerg capturing a tower, then using the 100 supply they just captured to lay down 10 vet archers above the gate so it’s not easily re-captured. 1 wouldn’t really do much against 10+ teams. but 10, 20, 30 would.

This suggestion could be limited to defense points if people are worried about it too-heavily influencing 1v1 fights. though I feel in a 1v1 fight, if someone stopped and spent 5 seconds to lay down a npc guard, they will be killed before the guard is even completed. could even make it take 10 seconds to lay it down if it’s that big a deal.
Maybe have it be an upgrade-type thing you buy from the npc? they already have one for hiring several additional guards – this would just be a “hire 1 additional guard for 20s and 10 supply” that you could purchase multiple times.

selling dungeons? Might I ask how this works? In other games where you just pay people to complete the dungeon for you?

It helps to have a friend with you. you will nearly complete the dungeon path, then list a lfg clearing saying you’re selling it. 3 people will join. If they each send you 5g (for example), then all’s good and you finish off the final boss like normal and everyone gets dungeon rewards. If they don’t, you kick them and relist the lfg. It kinda works because it would take a potential buyer longer to run to the end than it takes for you to kick them. OPs problem was that this last part didn’t work. I’m assuming he did it alone, in which case it’s harder to kick someone if they don’t pay (need to rely on getting another buy to agree to kick).

all time gate after the first ~month of it’s release is pointless. yes, “pointless”. i.e.: without a reason. If you can think of a reason, I’d like to hear it. the only reason I can think of for time gating something is to slow down how much enters the market so it results in as little disruption as possible. after a month, though, prices are all at equilibrium anyways, so un-time-gating it wouldn’t change how many people make.

the point is that it makes people log in on a daily basis.

if they are logging in just to craft, they won’t be doing anything else. you really want them logging in, crafting it, logging out? how does that help anything other than be annoying?

A nice little side effect of time gating gap charged quartz is that grow lamps remain profitable to craft weeks after they were introduced because it is impossible to flood the market for them. I am all for little niches like this that allow crafters to make a profit even if they don’t spot it in the first couple of days.

like I said: “after the first ~month”. It depends on the item, but after it reaches equilibrium, there is no point to it. grow lamps; sure, that can be time-gated right now to cause minimal disruption to the economy. But a month or so from now when it’s price is down to 8g (the cost to make it), there is no longer a reason for it.
also, it’s hilarious for the 1 charged quartz per day AND 1 grow lamp per day. like, the “can only get enough materials to make a grow lamp once every 10 days” wasn’t enough, they had to make double sure their time gating stuck.
another also: it defeats half the purpose of time gating to make the thing you’re making be tradable. If you want 20 grow lamps, you can buy 20 grow lamps right now. it being time-gated doesn’t slow down how quickly you get them. The only thing time-gating slows down is how many materials are consumed to make them, ie: market disruption. so once the market is no longer disrupted, there is no reason for them.

My point still stands about celestial. It was time gated for no reason from the get go. They just happen to use it recently for the grow lamps when they could have used something completely different. So, saying it’s gated daily because of grow lamp crafting is disingenuous. It was gated long before that and for NO good reason. It doesn’t fit with the rest of crafting.

agreed. celestial shouldn’t be singled out as to be time-gated. heh, could you imagine if they made berserker time-gated and account-bound? hehe, that makes me grin maniacally. I can just imagine the flood of emails Anet would receive.

Item Flipping help?

one bit of advice: if you see something that gives a lot of profit, you won’t make any profit off it (such as buy for 1g, sell for 10g). first, you won’t be able to buy it because you’ll have to refresh your buy order every 3 minutes. then, if you magically are able to buy it, you won’t be able to sell it because you’ll be undercut every 3 minutes and have to relist. you’ll end up selling it near the price you paid for it anyways. things like this happen because of flukes. someone might of bought 100 of them instead of 10, or they tried to manipulate it, or w/e. it’s a temporary price fluctuation and it’ll go back to normal VERY quickly.
that’s where the ‘know the market’ comes into play – knowing which items actually are worth that. easy thing would be to check gw2spidy for every item you are considering buying. also, gw2tp.com has a search function that you can easily find items with a good spread.
good luck!

on the other hand… if everyone uses their light profession because it gives better loot, then ore and leather will go up in price because there is less of it. well… then there would also be less demand for it. I see this being a bad idea because it’s unsteady.

Blade Shard Vender?????

it’s actually called the temporary blade shard vendor. He was with the zephyrites, so I’ve been spreading the rumor he was a casualty of that crash in Dry Top.
they still drop because they are used to make one of the fancy back pieces.
if you don’t want/need the back piece, just destroy them. or you can hold onto them for months until the vendor comes back so you can trade 100 blade shards for a green item worth 2s. Bank space, imo, is worth more than 5s per space (stack of 250 = 2.5 green items).

there should really just be a blanket “please return this gift” button when you are given a gift. this sort of thing happens enough to merit adding that button.

Suggestion: hire a guard

in WvW

Mystic.5934

This suggestion is to add a few consumable items, that are similar to blueprints and traps, but place a npc guard at the location. Could be placed inside a tower or keep, or anywhere on a wvw map. see a zerg coming at you? everyone place a guard! they would behave similar to the sentries in that they would stand there and if an enemy came close they would attack it.
They consume supply to place, like the traps.
Suggested prices:
Guard = 20 badges to buy, 5 supply to use
Veteran Guard = upgraded Guard in Mystic Forge (like how you make superior blueprints), 10 supply to use
Archer = 20 badges to buy, 5 supply to use
Veteran Archer = upgraded Guard in Mystic Forge (like how you make superior), 10 supply to use

Probably wouldn’t be a good idea to have champion-level guards. for starters, they should need like 200 supply (require a building location and everyone can help build it). but more than that, it would make long-term occupations that much harder to take. on the other hand, shouldn’t long-term owners have that benefit? Anyways, they would be created in the mystic forge similar to superior siege now, except require like 10 siege masters guides instead of 1 and use the already-promoted veteran guards or archers.

If you’re trying to get a `hot` bag, don’t be surprised to be outbid by +1c by somebody asking for several thousand of that same bag- who will then be outbid by +1c by somebody else with their own order of several thousand.

this is true for pretty much every TP Trading strategy. If something is VERY profitable, there will be lots of competition for it, and you will have to refresh buy orders and sell listings a lot. This is why I prefer to stay away from things that are too good to be true – because they usually are, and you’ll end up just getting worried and frustrated.

Agony Resist on Back & Others

remember that you have up to 16 AR opportunities: 6 in armor, 2 in weapon, 2 for each ring and back, 1 for each accessory, 1 for amulet.

Buying Legendaries: Time frame

you’ll need to refresh your buy order a few times, but I expect you’ll buy order one within a few days. if you can stand to wait that long, do it. if you have a deadline or must have it now, buy it now.
another option is to overcut the current highest buy order by 50g or 100g (still 200g below sell listing). no one will outbid you and it’ll likely get filled within a few hours.
