JusticarArkiel: I’m aware. both were on the list. one is not as good as the other, just like both are better than what we had before (search for ‘emblazoned’ to get medium armor, ‘exalted’ for light armor, etc.)

in general, the insignias that can’t be crafted can be salvaged from non-crafted exotic armor with those stats. So you need to salvage a exotic soldier’s armor that wasn’t crafted (crafted have the name “emblazoned”, “exalted”, or “draconic”).

now, this is where soldier’s is a bit unique. go search on the TP: “soldier”, exotic, remove the profession filter.
there are no exotic soldier’s armors on the TP that aren’t crafted.
so where do the insignia come from? there are 2 sources: there are account-bound exotic armors that drop in fractals, some of them have soldier’s stats. But most come from dungeon armors. AC, SE, and HotW sell armor with soldier’s stats.
or you could just buy soldier’s insignia from the TP.

you get it by getting a lot of different exotics in your wardrobe. looks like it gives better prices than your normally get (for obby shards, for example)

I feel there’s a huge difference between cruelty to animals and using every party of an animal you killed because you needed to. Like, if you came across a deer in the woods that died because it got it’s antlers caught in a tree, how is it cruel to eat it and use it’s skin to keep warm?

I just had an experience I feel should not be experienced: I wanted to buy 250 small loot bags instantly. There was 10 listed for 1s20c, 1 for 1s60c, 4 for 1s61c, … 8 for 1s90c (that’s all that’s shown). If I try and enter ‘250’, it changes my text to ‘10’ because it’s set to 1s20c. If I take the time to scroll down and select the 1s90c listing, max price becomes 1s90c and quantity becomes ‘140’. changing quantity to ‘250’ just changes it back to 140. As it is, I have to buy 140 right now, wait for it to refresh, then do the math, then buy another 110 after the refresh. I can’t even increase my max price to 3s then enter ‘250’, because it turns that ‘250’ back to ‘140’.
I believe this fails for several reasons: can’t see more than 20 listings even if you wanted to (it should load the next 20 if you scroll all the way to the bottom of that list), and you can’t just enter how many you want to buy right now because you first have to set the max you want to pay, but before that you first have to research the max you can pay. Ideally, if you say you want to buy 250 things, it should set your max price to whatever it would take to buy 250 things. All this makes buying lots of things far longer and more involved than it should be.

well, I’ve had some time to play with the updated TP and I feel a bunch of these were completed. Here’s the breakdown as I see it:
1) any extras: I like that you can see both buy and sell listings at the same time – 400 gems
2) nope. This has been unintentionally “achieved” because the new TP is so slow at listing stuff that you have to really try to get the error. That doesn’t count in my book. But, the error message was changed to something more meaningful, so: – 100 gems
3) nope (search by armor weight)
4) yup (search by profession) – 400 gems
5) yup (search for back items) – 400 gems
6) nope (boolean searches)
7) yup (categories are accurate and all are present) – 200 gems
8) nope (buy order and sell listing price visible)
9) yup (easier navigation) – 1000 gems
10) sorta. more numbers involved in selling an item are displayed, but not all the ones people would want to know (currently missing “projected profit” and “expected pickup” – half: 400 gems
11) sorta. Front page lists were removed, but not replaced with anything. – half: 200 gems
12) thinking back, TP not loading has been fixed for a while (at least for me). It does require a while to make sure it’s fixed, so I feel that qualifies. – 2000 gems
13) nope (easier to convert exactly how many gold/gems you want)

If my math is correct, that’s 5,100 gems

I can see why they’d want to limit it. as it was, there was a delivery agent practically everywhere, which defeated the point of even needing one.

I’m fine with individual characters having different professions. What I want to see is account-wide recipes. Those recipe sheet items that are in your inventory, then you double-click and learn them. Those should apply to your account instead of that character.

My guild bank full of recipe sheets disagrees.

can I join your guild? I want to move some crafts around so I can delete characters I don’t want but to do it I need a recipe for the major and superior of the these: sigil of malice, rune of exuberance, rune of tormenting, sigil of renewal, sigil of bursting, rune of perplexity. plus all the ascended inscriptions, insignia, and item recipes. potent potion recipes are just really expensive now but are at least obtainable. Those are just the ones that come to mind.
I don’t suggest this to save a couple gold. I suggest this to save thousands of gold plus hundreds of laurels plus millions of karma plus stuff you can’t even get anymore.

Esplen is right. I believe it’s around 6 stacks of swiftness you can have at a time. Examples: running over TC will give 1 stack of 10s, standing in SoS will give 4 stacks of 4s each. Once you reach the stack limit, you just stop getting more.
So there is no hard cap, but there is a realistic cap. I believe the highest I’ve seen myself have is about 1m40s. (at 6 stacks, that would be an average of 16.6s per stack)
Let’s see… theoretical maximum would probably be 6 guardians all with high boon duration all yelling “retreat”. +30% from traits. rune of the water +20%. that’s 30s each yell x 6 = 180s = 3m.

people complained about gold → gem price being too high, they add a giant button that encourages people to lower that price by the only way it can possibly be lowered (converting gems into gold), and people complain. This happens too often. Just think of it as Evon’s sidebar ads.
is this button also there on players that have no gems? seems like it shouldn’t, but then that would be a dissuasion to buying gems in the first place as it would sorta punish you. Maybe have “Get More Gems” that links to the buying gems with money page when the player doesn’t have any gems? I know this suggestion would get nothing but hate on this topic, but it seems better than the current: “You COULD be getting more gold if ONLY you had gems, which you don’t, so haha”

I hear they removed a bunch of them from everywhere. you’ll probably have to go into DC to get to one now.

yeah, it always did up to how much the current highest buyer wanted. which I also didn’t like.
you know… come to think of it, having it default to the price of the highest buy order AND default to the most you can sell is probably a bad idea. too many people would sell right there, and there would be a new lowest sell listing 1c above the new highest buy order.
you would have to program it to sell your 250 copper ore to the top-3 (or however many it took) buy orders for a variety of prices. I think you can do that now, if you click the check boxes on the buy orders.

actually, I think that if you say “I want to buy more of this item”, it should default to the lowest sell listing (you want to buy more? here’s the price for buying it right now)
and if you say “I want to sell this item”, it should default to the highest buy order (you want to sell this item? here’s the price to sell it right now)
personally, I almost always chose to do the opposite of this, but this makes sense.

the icons stay the same size, but you only see the bottom ~1/4 of the icon. you can type it in again to go back to normal.

While this is of course highly annoying, there’s a case for it being left alone. If people get so annoyed buying the beads that they prefer to get these items from the TP, then that helps keep the prices up.

this is the reason these weapons give the highest karma->gold rate in the game.

But it requires more coordination/dexterity than a giant “sell maximum” button!
What would be perfect is if they kept it as this new style (with the slide bar), but ‘sell maximum’ was the default. So you slide it down if you don’t want to sell all, rather than slide up if you do. because 99% of the time, you do want to sell all.

So, one of the things I’ve most enjoyed about this update is that the API changes effectively shut down all the bots on the TP. For the past 2 days, the trading post has been a lot of fun because I’ve been able to get buy orders filled in markets that the bots drove me out of ages ago.

I think this is more that it’s harder to use the new TP a lot. it’s easy for a few items, but more cumbersome for hundreds of items. Basically, it made TP use harder for power traders, so there is less power trading, which dramatically decreases overall TP use. So there is literally less competition. I know that’s how I feel – there are things I’d like to do but won’t because it’s more trouble. I know eventually I’ll do it, but for now it’s procrastination.
It’s like if the world ran out of gasoline. For the first couple days, no one would want to go anywhere because it was so much harder. Then eventually people need food or realize they miss the beach, or work called and said they found a way they could still function, etc.

I feel like a lot of my pros and cons have already been mentioned, so I don’t think they need to be mentioned again.
A con I haven’t seen mentioned yet is the pickup tab refresh rate [for power users]. an example:

I go to the TP, it immediately says I have 100 items and 26g to pick up.
I click ‘pick up’ (the 100 items are stackable, so only like 8 inventory slots are consumed)
It still says I have 100 items and 26g to pick up (it’s the same items)
I click ‘pick up’ but nothing happens
I go to another screen on the TP, still says the same 100 items
I close and reopen the TP
now there are 38 items and 0g to pick up, which I do and the notice goes away

I’ve tried waiting instead of reopening, and that does work. It just takes a minute or so for it to show that I have new-new items to pick up.

oh, another con (probably a bug): all of the ‘my transactions’ windows do not update until you switch off of them. example: If you are looking at your buy orders, click on one of them, and place a new buy order for that item, it doesn’t appear at the top of your buy orders until you go to another page, then click back to view your buy orders.

reminds me of another one (probably also a bug): after you remove a buy order, it redirects your window to the top of your buy order page. gets really really tedious to cancel several old buy orders that are half way down the list.

I think it’s important to point out that the main functions for a vast majority of players – clicking on an item in inventory to sell, or searching for an item to buy – are vastly, vastly improved.

On the flip side, the TP is much worse for power users now; if you are looking to manage your buy and sell orders you are going to be in for a rough time.

I said somewhere else that this TP is much more individualized, and this is what I meant; it works well for one item. It’s bad for lots of items.

To be clear about OP: this update did fix a lot of the problems the previous TP had. It just also added as many new ones. And I know not everyone feels the same way, I’m just pointing out that the complainers shouldn’t be disregarded just because every update has complainers – because not every update does; only the ones where there is something bad to complain about.

My thought is why even bother listing a number. It’s been asked elsewhere, did they test this patch on real players? If they did they didn’t (or couldn’t and that’s another topic) listen.

the video I saw about some of the devs talking about it said they had like 6,000 situations/things they tested (such as ‘does this back piece show up?’, ‘can you filter by rare level 68+?’, etc.). I think they didn’t have any sort of players trying it out, just paid testers.

I’m not so upset about the inability to ‘add to lowest listing’ as I am about not knowing if I already have something listed and at what price. So often I’ll have a stack of something to sell, but I know it doesn’t sell quickly, so I list 20, wait for those to sell or the price to drop, list 20 more, etc. It’s safer that way.
I’m also upset about when you cancel a buy order, it moves to the top of your buy order list. So if you’re canceling a bunch of old buy orders, you scroll down, cancel, confirm, scroll down, cancel confirm, … this takes at least 10 times longer than it used to.
They also removed the clicking fast to place multiple orders at once. That’s understandable, but they should at least increase how many you can buy at a time. This TP is more individual than the last one, meaning it’s good at buying 1 item but not so good at buying multiple items. It takes so long to place one buy order that to buy 20,000 items, for example, is stupid complicated and time consuming.

Hehe, yup, they made it so slow it’s as slow as the limiter. In case you were wondering: I was able to have it stop me from selling. I at least give them props for changing the message to “You are trying to sell too quickly” or something like that. It felt like it took 20 items to get there, but it was probably closer to 10 but just felt like a lot because of all the excess clicking we now have to do.

related: I placed a buy order for a mini that was filled less than 12 hours ago. I was searching for it because I forgot how much I paid for it but it doesn’t appear on my history because so many other things have come in since then.
(buy and sell history also has a 100-item limit)

somewhere in the last several hours a dev said there is no limit to how many items can be in your pick up tab. It just won’t give you more items than you can fit in your inventory at a time. I have a feeling it was points of interest ep 6…

If what I think you’re describing is what I think you’re describing, then this is from radiant armor. It’s been a bug for around a year (ever since we got radiant armor from achievement chests).

wasn’t there an item a little while back that, when linked in chat, would crash anyone who saw the link? so you could whisper someone you didn’t like, or if someone /map linked it, everyone on that instance would crash.

O.o is it even possible to get gossamer below level 80? much less enough to make anything?

the fact they recognize it needed changing is a plus. and they do show more important stuff now. but it’s not complete. Ideally it would look like this:

before, they had just the listing fee and expected return (total - final sale tax)
now they have all but the expected profit
maybe the next update they’ll have all of them?

“auto refreshed”, no. but they could do something like push notifications, where the server sends out a signal that there is a new listing to anyone currently viewing it. I imagine this is how the mail and TP pickup notification works.

It should default to what you did last time. You sold to highest buy on the last item? default to highest buyer this item. I can’t imagine a single scenario where that wouldn’t be the ideal situation.

Technically true. But it misses the point. Sure, it may not be called ‘insider trading’ at that point, but it is a messed up situation.
If I work for a company and know something big will go down tomorrow, and I post it on facebook, then all my friends who see that post first buy the stock, then all their friends who see their repost buy the stock, etc. That is what is going on here: it is ‘released to the public’, yet it isn’t released to the entire public at the same time, so only the people on the inside get to make use of the information, because by the time it gets to 90% of the public, that information is not useful.

Why is any info even released at all? It used to be all we’d get is “we have a big announcement on improvements to existing stuff coming sept 9th”, then everyone tries and guesses what it is. Why even tell anyone that X will be highly demanded, Y will get nerfed to smithereens, and Z’s supply will disappear?
I’ll end with pointing out that fining the inside traders gold is pointless. Most of them release info to gain popularity and promote their youtube channel or website and make $$ selling ad space. Better to leak fake info to them so no one trusts anything anyone claims ahead of time.

I’m curious: will the devs be playing as generic players, or will they be sporting a Anet tag? and can the enemy see our intimidating red tag ally?

you need more CC. when a warrior runs away from me, I just blink to them and immobilize or hit them with temporal curtain. They have gtfooc skills, I have gtfbic skills

hehe, yeah. aside from random spikes in damage, the final boss is pretty easy (stand behind him).
just wait until the aetherblade path boss. that guy is rough, and very mobile. that path will take you a while, but don’t fear it!

you can do the same for pretty much every dungeon. Most aren’t that bad, if you put in the small amount of time/effort required to learn.
Some are that bad, and those are the ones people never recommend to do. CoF 3 comes to mind :P aetherblade path would also be on the list of “recommended to avoid”

I feel so bad for people that use these. It’s a shame they stealth punish someone who uses this part of the game. “stealth” because it’s not obvious when they purchase it that they will regret it later. I can just imagine some poor player that puts superior sigil of generosity on a wvw weapon, and then they may want different stats, but are SOL. You’d think they would want to encourage people to use these special items. Guess they were a mistake.

are you on the same server? I assume so, but just throwing this out there:
as your server gets a higher score, they get bonuses
highest tier for exp is +10%
if your friend has higher achievement points, that would help explain it: you get gold / magic / karma / exp increase as your AP goes up but that’s only up to about 12% at 10k AP.
some foods give +10 exp per kill, some give +10% exp, some give +15% exp.
let’s see… other reasons:
50% experience booster (or experience bonfire)
100% birthday booster
30% laurel experience booster
+5% guild exp bonus
+10% guild exp bonus
+10% heroes banner
20% experience utility infusion
+33% for being outnumbered in wvw

also, I’ll add that you don’t get “20,000 exp” from a kill. you get “10% of a level” from a kill. a level 70 would get more total exp from the same kill as a level 60. both would get 10% of their level (for example), but a level 70 requires a little more exp to gain a level than a level 60.

depending on the rare, it could be cheaper to craft or buy. do the cheaper one on a case-by-case basis.
remember to throw in items with an average level of 75 or higher for highest chance at precursor.

the last time I joined a taxi party I went from a map with 40 players waiting for wurm (all asking for a taxi) to a map with 15 players waiting for wurm.

why the focus on bloodstone? I have more of the other 2 than bloodstone. at least bloodstone had a use (before mawdrey); why did they make mawdrey only take bloodstone??? If she ate all 3 it would of been perfect.
