if you could learn a artificer recipe on one character and another character that has artificer on it could craft it, I would be soooo happy. or maybe be able to move my 500 artificer from one character to another? account-bound recipe learning would be the better option – also would be a gold sink for the craft leveling on alt.

3-crafts upgrade just confuses the whole mess, as the distribution for 3 crafts per character is different than 2:
- 2 would be 4 characters, one with AB, another with CD, another with EF, another with GH
- 3 would kittenaracters, one with ABC, another with DEF, another with GH
- then 4 would be 2 characters, one with ABCD, another with EFGH
every upgrade you have to completely re-adjust who knows what craft.

then there’s the problem with limited-time recipes. if you learn the recipe to make superior sigil of tormenting on your necro, you better get used to having that necro around, because you can’t get that recipe again.

I can’t imagine this practice is against the rules, as long as they are placing the orders by hand.
that said, all 4 of those top-10 lists on the homepage are not useful in any way and should be changed. “most recently sold item” would be a good list, as would “most recently added item”

Those would change so fast they’d be but a flicker.

ooops. I see the confusion. the first one, yes. however, it should only update when you load the TP (so it’s a snapshot). and it wouldn’t display more than one of the same item (if 4 people buy mithril ore, it only shows it once). yes, what items are shown would always be changing, so it would essentially be a preview of random items that people are buying.
the second one, maybe “most recently released item” would be better? the intention was to get things like Piece of Ambrite, Sheet of Ambrite, Nomad recipes, etc. on that list when that patch went live. sort of a “the latest thing added to the game” list.

As you can tell, I prefer top-10 lists that change instead of always show “mithril ore, ecto, iron ore, platinum ore, black lion chest…” then one day you get a ooooo moment when platinum ore bumps out iron ore for the #3 most supplied.
currently, most supplied only changes with major releases that consume an entire material (silk scrap disappeared from it when ascended armor came out). most demanded is for advertising. highest value never changes except for perma hair contract slowly moving up it. top traded also never changes.
home pages are supposed to be “what should I check on today”. currently, they are bookmarks to someone else’s favorite websites. they are currently fairly worthless, and should be replaced with something at least a little useful, such as announcing new items to the game or advertising a random item.
even better would be to have several options of what to show, and you can change what is shown for you.

if you get dawn as a drop and sell it, you’ll get 850g
if you craft sunrise and sell it, it’ll cost you another 1630g and you’ll get back 2902g (1272g profit)
if you craft a ‘random’ legendary, I would currently suggest meteorlogicus, it’ll cost you 2205g and you’ll get back 2796g (591g profit)
so… (1272g profit) vs. (850+591g=1441g profit)
I would say selling dawn then crafting and selling the highest-profit-legendary would be slightly better than crafting sunrise. of course, that is not always true (like if sunrise was the highest-profit-legendary).

The millions of buy orders at 1 copper is just a trick by sellers to get their item to appear on the top supplied list. What raised the price was the rush markets usually get as an event item is no longer farmable and supply is sucked up.

However, the current supply far exceeds the supply that was on the TP even at the peak of the TP and so is the price.

prices take far longer than that to go up once an event ends. I was expecting this recipe to double in price like 2-4 months after it ended, like every other limited-time item. but it’s been proven by several other instances that if you place 2 million buy orders for something, it will appear on the top-demanded list, and the price of it will go up – usually around 1.5-2.5 times as much. the reasoning is that it’s advertising – it’s the first thing people see when they go to the TP. people didn’t know about the item before it was advertised, then they are told about it, so they may want to buy it, so it gets purchased and the price goes up. go look at the price history of every other item that has been on that list (except the expected/common ones like iron ore), you’ll see their price increases drastically within hours of the demand increasing drastically.

There is currently a bug in the TP where the right sight of the TP with the prices doesn’t open if you rightcklick on an item to sell.
If you then select another item and go back to what you wanted to sell it seems to get messed up.

So if the right side doesn’t show the prices close the TP window and retry to avoid that.

I hate that bug! I’ll be listing a bunch of materials, then it shows me the prices for selling leek but I had clicked on vanilla beans (leek was the last thing I sold). it seems to happen if you click on the next thing to sell before the last thing came back with the ‘OK’ button – like it didn’t finish the transaction yet. when this happens, I usually go to a 3rd item and that one is normal, then after selling that I can do the 2nd one again.

someone placed 4 million buy orders. I believe they later reduced their order to 3 million, but it still has the same effect: on the top-demanded list.

What is your point?

this is my point:

So what’s going on here?

he wanted to know why chaos of lyssa recipe’s price went up, so I answered it for him.

Nabuko: it doesn’t require a bot. A normal person making TP bids by hand could easily make 2 million buy orders in a few hours. 1 bid for 250 units in 2 seconds = 30 bids per minute = 1800 bids per hour x 250 = 450k buy orders per hour. then there’s that latency bug that lets you click quickly place maybe 4 buy orders at once, which would raise it to 1.8 million buy orders per hour. check the Buy listings Volume (not the average): they started placing buy orders at 5:30 and got to 2 million at 10:30. the 2 million to 4 million looks like it happened suddenly within an hour, so that part was probably a bot (or they tethered their computer to their phone’s internet for so they could place 20 buy orders each time because phones have much higher ping)

Mystic, thanks for that explanation of flipping, I never really understood the term before and you cleared it up in a few words.

“few” :P I thought I was starting to ramble on, but good to be helpful

Betatwix, that’s exactly how it goes: you might place 100 buy orders, wait an hour, 5 are filled (which you then list), you update your prices and find on 50 you were outbid, so you increase your offer, then go to sleep. in the morning, 10 buy orders are filled (which you then list) and 2 of the items have sold. you check your offers and 80 of them are outbid, you increase your offers. you check your sell listings and of the 8 remaining, 3 were undercut once by 1c and 1 was undercut 5 times to 80% what you listed it for. do you relist? etc.
most of your actual money is tied up in buy orders. maybe 10% is tied up in items for sale. at least that was my experience – and I could of been doing it wrong :P Overall, I made a fairly high percent profit (50-200% per item), but the work just wasn’t worth it for me. there are other methods that could be considered ‘flipping’, such as: buy 100k iron ore at 1s on tuesday knowing everyone does crafting over the weekend so you sell at 1s50c on saturday.

the profit you get from flipping comes from other people wanting gold asap rather than more gold later, so of course you have to wait for them. It’s actually a rather interesting psychology thing about humans. say you were offered the choice of $1,000 right now or $2,000 in 1 year: which would you take? what about $10,000 in 10 years? everyone has their cutoff ($1,000 now vs. $100,000 in 1 year and most people will take the 100k, while not nearly as many would take the 2k). the lottery actually makes a huge amount of money from this. those jackpot winners only get that 100 million in installment payments over 20 years, or they can opt for half of it (50 million) right now.
awww here I go rambling again

if they knew what to do, you wouldn’t need our help :P
as Danikat said, one player with a few cc skills should be dedicated to lure holograms to the boss, then kill them (pretty much the entire fight, that’s all they’ll do). also, I think the holos spawn in a pattern (counter-clockwise, if I recall…), which would help them be ready for the next one to spawn. this keeps the boss from doing their wipe-everyone-skill, and lets you kill it faster.
it’s actually one of my more favorite boss mechanics. some bosses require too much coordination (3-headed jungle wurm), some required too little (nearly every other dungeon boss), but this one is juuuuuuust right.

Gold wars 2 Question

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Mystic.5934

Mystic.5934

https://www.goldwars2.com/ ?

to answer your question: yes.
buy order is placing an offer for that item, let’s say at 1g
sell listing is someone offering to sell that item, let’s say for 2g
someone comes along with the item, they can either sell right now for 1g or place a new sell listing probably somewhere around 2g that they will have to wait for someone to buy at a later date
someone else comes up and wants to buy the item, they can either buy right now at 2g or place a new buy order, probably near 1g, then they have to wait for someone to fill their buy order.
it’s all a matter of patience and acceptable prices
‘TP flipping’ is when you place a buy order for 1g, wait for it to fill, then place a sell listing for the item at 2g, then wait for it to fill.
you are absolutely right that you will get outbid on the buy orders and want to raise your offer so yours is filled first, then you’ll probably be undercut on the sell listing, and might want to relist it so yours sells first. you should take these chances into account.
in general, if the margin is really good, you’ll have to increase your offer more. same with sell listing. so if you’re looking at a 200% profit, you’ll probably have to babysit it more than something at a 30% profit. (make sure you include the TP tax in your calculations for profitability. and I usually include one or two relistings in that calculation as well)
the turnaround on this strategy usually isn’t very fast, as you are waiting for other people to want (or want to sell) the item. but sometimes you get lucky: I once turned 20g into 50g in 20 minutes from a single item. even so, this is my least-favorite TP trading tactic. too easy to get stuck with an item that keeps getting undercut, too much babysitting the buy orders, etc.

there are other websites besides goldwars2, and most of them are free. http://www.gw2tp.com/search?sort=spread is one of them (you can expand the search criteria to include other things)

From my understanding, it’s legal to use outside information (such as goldwars2.com, gw2tp.com, gw2spidy.com, etc.) to tell you what you should buy/sell. but it’d be illegal to have it automated to buy/sell for you. As long as you are placing the buy orders and selling the items by hand, you’re good.

Mystic.5934

you’re doing something boring that few people want to do. If it were popular/more enjoyable, more people would do it and you wouldn’t be making as much profit. that’s how it works. lots of people want to run dungeons, kill bosses, etc. so all the items they get aren’t worth as much. If only a few people did open-world content, you better believe the price of cabalist armor would be 100 times what it is now.
you’re also not accounting for how much prior knowledge you need to be making the profits you are making. most people don’t know which are the good items to do that with, so most people can’t make the same profits you do. there are so many jobs in RL that revolve around this concept – pay someone to do something for you because they know how to and you don’t.

mists essences can be downgraded. when they added that, people were asking for 1:1 or even 2:1 to just be able to get the vials even though they are running higher fractal levels. then they added the forge recipe to downgrade, and it wasn’t 1:1 or 2:1 as request, it was 1:3.
point being that it may sound like a good idea to just be able to downgrade even if it’s 1:1 or 2:1, but Anet is probably thinking that any downgrading would be more like 1:2 or 1:3, and that wouldn’t be such a good idea.
look at those sharpening stone stations. people had been asking for those since the game opened. they are too expensive, and people complain. if you could downgrade gems at the rate of 2:1, people would complain about a recipe that would never be used, etc. Anet doesn’t like complaints.

Why have yellow weapons gone up in price?

in Crafting

Posted by: Mystic.5934

Mystic.5934

I noticed a lot of rare weapons went up when they introduced the wardrobe. People have always compared rare price to ecto price, and bought the rares when they can make a profit by salvaging and selling. the wardrobe let them collect the skins as well, so there’s more reward from salvaging, so people are willing to pay more. especially for the lower supply rares. before, people would only buy them if they could salvage for a profit; now people also buy them to collect the skin. so it went from low supply + demanded only if cheap to low supply + high demand.

I’m colorblind as well. specifically, red-deficient. So reds and browns are less apparent and look similar to shades of green.
the popped-up aoe indicator they did a year ago was a step in the right direction, but what I really want is something like Nochtli’s aoe indicators.
but in general: beneficial aoe should not be just a different color than offensive aoe, but look physically different as well. like if friendly aoe looked like they do now and enemy aoe looks like a solid circle of red fire like Nochtli’s. That way, even if someone sees in greyscale, they could tell them apart just by them looking like a ring vs. solid circle.

I’ll add that at low levels, the amount of stats you get from items isn’t significant, so it won’t make a huge difference, but it could help.
I’d go with other people’s suggestions about using aoe weapons. aoe may deal less damage to a single target, but if you hit 5 mobs at once, that’s probably 4 times as much total damage as single-target attacks would do. That’s why there are 2 weapon slots – I like to have one for range/aoe and the other for melee/single combat. use the weapon that works best for each situation.

Mystic.5934

crafting is a profession. like mesmer or warrior. Not everyone does it. It shouldn’t be a support mechanic where you do it to give you a boost for when you play how you want to play.
Imagine if you got +5% damage for 2 hours from running a jumping puzzle. everyone would do it, and most players would hate doing it. Because not everyone loves jumping puzzles, yet everyone wants an extra 5% damage. Do you really want a game where you are forcing players to do things they hate? Yes: forcing, because anyone that doesn’t have that +5% is at a disadvantage – as if the enemy is cheating. They will put up with this for a short time, but quickly lose interest and go play something else instead.
Let them play how they want to, and use what they get from playing that way to get things that make them more effective at playing how they want to play.
A shame I couldn’t +1 OP more than once.

Can't salvage lion guard trans weapons

in Crafting

Posted by: Mystic.5934

Mystic.5934

historically, the ability to salvage has always followed the stats. So if you transmuted the stats of a dungeon exotic with the look of a karma item, you could salvage it, while you could not salvage just the karma item.
As you described it, I would expect you would be able to salvage your old pistols. however, I suggest that you are mistaken about the source of the item that supplied the stats for your exotic pistols. If those came from badges or karma and not crafted, that would explain why you can’t salvage them.
I would expect you can’t salvage lionguard daggers, as they are karma items. You might of got them with non-karma currency, yet they are still able to be bought with karma, so they are karma items.
you sure you can’t throw them into the forge? there are very few items you can’t throw in the forge, and I’ve always been able to throw karma items in there. the only items I haven’t been able to throw in there are special things like the Sclerite Karka Shell – and even then, most of them can be.

TP Listings Inaccurate

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Mystic.5934

Mystic.5934

I think it’s Anet being lazy with updating. the game caches the prices, like Aidan said, but most items get updated prices every hour or so. I think the reason these new items’ cache isn’t being updated is because they aren’t included in the updating, which Anet probably has to add by hand, whereas items are added to the TP automatically when they are first sold. So the price you see is the first price it was listed for.
Just a theory. Would likely be better to fully automate it, but there could be some serious performance issues by doing it that way.

And it didn’t come and go – there wouldn’t be lag for a few min when a lot of people were active then nothing for an hour. This lag happened instantly once every couple minutes then nothing until the next time it chose to strike.

psychologically, it’s more rewarding to open your treasure than just have it appear. take this other example: would you get more enjoyment from getting $1000 cash in the mail or realize days later that there is an extra $1000 in your bank account? sure, the bank one is fun and a ‘yay’ moment, but the cash is something you would celebrate for the day – tell people about, maybe buy a round of drinks, etc.

I think you’ll need to site your source for nay-sayers to believe you regarding the dev’s quote.

Only the discussion section has 1157 pages and I am not even sure if it was there and the search function does not work so no way I will be able to find that back.

But it does not really matter if I can link to it or not. A dev did say that so because of that I did never feel the need to look at stuff like tokens until after an event.

However like I said I usually never have many tokens anyway so I don’t know if Anet always did as they said.

I just expect them to do what they say and implement stuff the right way. Why would you not put a vendor to keep selling the stuff if people still have the tokens? I would be just extremely bad design.
Last time I had many tokens left was with SAB and there is was the same, the vendor was there for an extra week or so.

I now have 2 festival tickets I got to buy the panda and the other thing and many more tokens left in my bags. I really can’t see any good reason to not have a vendor in it. Even if they would have said they removed the vendors this time (what they did not..).

However like I said I guess Anet simply forgot to put the vendors somewhere and they should do it soon in a patch. The SAB vendor was not hard to forget because it was not inside the instance.

the forum’s search doesn’t work, but google is pretty good. just search for something like:
site:forum-en.guildwars2.com festival vendors
and it will search this forum for those words

functionally speaking, an auto-clicker that make your computer click the mouse 10 times a second is identical to binding it to a mouse wheel. both will perform a kitten-ton of clicks in a short period of time from only one action performed by the user (spin the wheel vs. activate auto-clicker). auto-clickers and wheel-bindings are not what they have in mind when they say macros can be against the rules, but they both skim the line. no developer has ever said a auto-clicker, by itself, is against the rules.

the other possibility is crafting potent superior sharpening stones. I forget the cutoff where they stop giving exp, but those are pretty profitable to craft (if you already have the recipe. if not, it’s kinda expensive and wouldn’t save you money for getting to 500)
I think from 450 to 500 requires discovering around 20 exotics (15 if you use crafting booster). So you can expect like 2 less than that.

I’m wondering which rare sword “Espadon” is.

I went to the online trading post (I’m not at home atm)
searched for all rare weapons, sorted by price descending
here’s the screen shot
# 3 has the same image and same price, and is named ‘Greatsword’

250 Essence of Luck

they do need a ‘use all’ option. same for opening bags.
the recommendation only helps if that 4 stacks of luck essence wasn’t already the 200 luck variety. there have definitely been times when I had more than 4 stacks of 200 luck. after 218% mf, each stack of the 200’s only increases mf by 1.666. 49 stacks of 200 luck to go from 218 to 300%. that’s 24,500 clicks.

Molten Tools and Best Gold Making?

each infinite tool takes around 325,000 gatherings to recoup the cost of buying it. at 4 hr/day, gathering from 1 ore node (3 gatherings) every minute, it would take 451 days to recoup the cost. At that point, you will have gathered roughly 1,300 stacks of ore. If it’s platinum ore, you can sell it for about 5,500g after taxes.
moral of the story: only buy infinite tool for convenience.

indeed; market trading is not a lazy man’s game.
btw: I have a few dozen stacks of ori ingots I’m saving for jewelry 500. I didn’t expect it to be a quick turnaround when I bought it, and it doesn’t take up any bank space being stored on my sell listings, so not much problem waiting for it to be profitable. Also have some silver, gold, and platinum with the same theory. I wouldn’t recommend investing the majority of your gold into any one thing. Leave yourself something to invest in other things while waiting on long investments to mature.

Experimental Rifle

This item has been in the game for a long time, but I’m just reminding people who are having problems jumping:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Experimental_Rifle
it’s a ground-targeted, 900 range leap. similar to lightning pull.
the difference is that it’s a consumable item that you can use at any time – no need to find a crystal. after it’s used, there is a 30s cooldown then it can be used again without needing to consume another one. however, there is a chance of it backfiring with a small knockback, especially if there is something blocking the jump path. you are able to jump vertically a small amount.

my other favorite is the teleport gun:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Experimental_Teleportation_Gun
it’s a 1-use-per-consume consumable item that drops a portal, leaps you forward about 900 units, drops exit portal (people can follow you). it pretty much just shoots you straight in front, without much vertical lift.
enjoy!

what they should have done (crafting cap)

are you suggesting ascended items should be tradable? cause it sounds like you’re suggesting the exotics you have to craft to get to level 500 should be tradable, to which I will inform you that they are already tradable.
