except foes are burning 1/5 as often as you can maintain a single might stack. So str would be more average damage: 7/5 vs. 5/1 = 1.4% vs. 5%
‘permanent’ in the same way your personal story is permanent: you are able to go back and re-play it if you want. and people that aren’t here now will be able to purchase chapters of the LS (probably with gems or laurels?) so they can experience it as well. It will not be ‘permanent’ in the way that southsun cove is permanent (ie. a place that is always there)
Well I was going to wait to do it, thinking I’d have lots of time, but your last sentence made me concerned. So they are going to take this zone away from us and all the achievements and such? What does it mean ‘not permanent like southsun cove’, it won’t be a place that is always there? How/where would it go? I thought the whole idea was to avoid the “hurry and get all your achievements done in 2-4 weeks” scenario?
I got the impression after this 2 weeks we could replay this zone as an instance, that we could include party members in on, but wouldn’t be like open-world content. southsun was a full zone. I think this will be like a dungeon – it’s there and you can play it with select people, and there is a story, but it’s not free open world.
I think you’ll need to site your source for nay-sayers to believe you regarding the dev’s quote.
not just you. just about everyone on these forums have requested this and other quality of life improvements for a long time now.

Just to get back on topic:
I salvaged 1200 rare antitoxin helmets during the last 2 days and got 1065 ectos.
I do not think those give as much profit as you think they give.
oh well, to each their own.

well, it didn’t jive with other rune sets. people knew it was the weird one by offering more than similar other ones. This update just brings it in line with those. Really, this update was just begging to happen. But there are lots of other things also begging to happen that haven’t happened, so it’s hard to predict what will happen :P
Thanks for the answers, i will remember that next time.
I can imagine what the persons face looked like after selling Sunrise for 4s50c
there was a reddit post about this. I forget which item it was, but it was written by the person that bought the item and got the 2700g refunded.
I wish I invested in these the first time
I did invest in a few of these this time
I know they won’t be nearly as good a profit, but since I bought most of them for 1c above merchant value, there isn’t much of a gamble.
Rune of Strength: The 4-piece bonus has had its might duration reduced from 10 seconds to 5 seconds for both the Major and Superior versions. The 6-piece bonus has had its damage bonus reduced from 7% to 5% while under the effect of might.
Sorry to everyone who owned any of these. It’ll probably go even lower in the coming hours.

who deservers to be rich IRL?
- the person who tells others to do their job (CEO)
- the person who does hard labor for 80 hours a week (McD cashier)

- the person who is directly responsible for the quality of our children (teacher)
If you have lots of karma: Buy blue cloth crab grabbin’ gloves from heart merchant in Bloodtide, throw them in forge and salvage what comes out. For 25k Karma I can get usually get around 40-50 scraps.
was about to suggest this, though I didn’t have the specific item. Also, this is one of the highest karma → gold conversion you can do (about 8500 karma → 1g, or 11s80c / 1000 karma).
Temple of Balthazar, the Straits of Devastation.
….or any OPEN temple in Orr. Cost Karma.
Until tomorrow (I’m guessing), you can also get them for Festival tokens at an NPC in the 4 Winds Cliffs zone.
Any open temple in Orr?? Because there are 5 temples in those 3 maps.
Or do you mean any open Temple of Balthazar, which is in the Straits of Devastation?
he means the Lost Orrian Jewelry Box, which you can buy from any temple and karma merchant in Orr.
In that case you don’t even need any open temple. There is a vendor in Fort Trinity and other places that are always available.
and yet, he’s not wrong :P
orrian boxes are the worst karma -> obsidian shard rate you can find.
Fine T5 -> T6 promotion and selling the T6 currently gives -50s to +50s per SP, depending on which material.
Fine T5 -> T6 promotion and using the T6 currently saves you 5s to 1g40s per SP, depending on which material.
better than a lot of other SP -> gold conversions, but not the best.
It was a troll solution imo. designed to punish players who were cheating the system and don’t pay attention to patch notes or are new to the game and want to make their lives easier.
- Before, if you see a buy order for Sunrise for 2800g, you could list your Sunrise for 5s, you would pay 25c in listing fee, and collect 2520g from the TP.
- Now, if you see a buy order for Sunrise for 2800g, and you list your Sunrise for 5s, you would pay 25c in listing fee, and collect 4s50c from the TP, and the person that placed the buy order gets refunded 2799g95s.
- How it should be is, if you see a buy order for Sunrise for 2800g, you could list your Sunrise for 5s, you would pay 140g in listing fee, and collect 2520g from the TP.
I spend all mine of obby shards.
You seriously can’t go wrong with this suggestion…..
To elaborate, because OP isn’t me:
If you want unique rewards like mini or model, you should those, because here is just about the only time you’ll be able to.
If not, then here’s the difference:
8 Obsidian Shards = 16,800 karma
2 Obsidian Shards and 2 Heavy Crafting Bags = 4,200 karma + 6 T6 mats = 4,200 karma + ~2.4g
strictly speaking, karma can be converted to gold at around 8,000 karma -> 1g (this is the best I’ve recently heard = buy armor, MF, salvage, sell linen). In that case, 16,800 karma = 2.1g, so the heavy crafting bags are clearly more economical.
however, at least for me, karma is much harder to come by, which makes it more valuable.
My recommendation for you: get the thing that’s harder for you to get otherwise.
class choice doesn’t matter. play which class you like using.
but I would recommend 1 melee tank and 1 ranged dps. and have 1 that gives boons and 1 that applies conditions.
Temple of Balthazar, the Straits of Devastation.
….or any OPEN temple in Orr. Cost Karma.

or just save your keys for the next promo. every other month keys give a bonus per chest. If you don’t like coffers, save your keys for when it gives trick-or-treat bags or marvelous gifts or a chance at a unique mini.
among other things, a relist-for-free button would make it so you have to check all of your listings every minute, if not more often. This is because everyone else would be ensuring theirs is the lowest, so yours wouldn’t be. trust me, the rest of the playerbase collectively is more active than you are.
Also, the TP does no cater to 1c undercutting. the default when selling something is ‘match highest offer’. one click from there is ‘match lowest sell listing’. several more clicks from there and you can 1c undercut. basically, only the dedicated and non-lazy do 1c undercuts. It was designed like this for a reason – to reduce how many people do it. If they do ever add a relist button, I guarantee you it would match lowest sell listing and charge you another 5% listing fee, and even then I wouldn’t want it added due to everyone relisting which would then force me to relist.
coats savage into 3 materials (on average), the others salvage into 2 (average). so, yes, you do get 2 scraps per salvage on average.
salvaging fine and masterwork items is the cheapest way to max your luck. by ‘cheapest’, I mean you can make a ~1s profit per item. so you make a profit while making luck. but it does take days. I can vouch for that time. I don’t mean it takes a while for buy orders to come in – it does – I mean it takes 200+ hours to just salvage all those items. 4 million luck to max mf. that’s 400,000 blue items. at 1 second per salvage, that would take 111 hours. and that’s not even counting the time to collect items from TP, time to refine luck essence, time to deposit materials (of which you will fill your bank 13 times over: 400,000 items * 3 mats / 250 = 4800 stacks of mats / 30 stacks per bank space / 12 bank spaces = 13.3 banks)
(edited by Mystic.5934)
it should be noted: the 5% listing fee is taken from your bank when you list the item.
the 10% sale fee is taken from the proceeds that the item sells for.
so if you have 1g on hand and sell an item for 1g, you will then have 95s on hand and 90s ready to be picked up in the TP. after you pick it up, you will then have 1g85s on hand.
-PvE farming through guesting (which was nerfed in April)…this is where I got most of my gold
rich ori node? :P I think one time I calculated that thing as giving like 80g/hr:
10 ori ore in 20 seconds (includes loading time on SSD)
8 characters
24 servers
24 × 8 × 10 x 4s = 76.8g
24 × 8 × 20 sec = 64 min
then I believe you can get up to like 64 characters: 614g in 8.5 hours each day
I did not participate. too boring imo.
As for OP: the biggest hurdle to getting lots of gold is saving it. If you don’t spend any, you will accumulate it. People with 2k+ gold have it because they don’t spend it. If you bought a legendary with that 2k gold, you wouldn’t have the gold anymore. Decide what you want: shiny gear or shiny gold.
Personally, I was using the cheapest exotics that had the stats I want for months while I saved. Only when I could afford a legendary and have it not put a big dent on ability to make more gold did I make one to use. Also, I’m not too interested in looks; I don’t even bother looking at the latest/most expensive skins – it’s not important to me.
you should also think about what you mean by ‘best’. could mean most g/hour (see rich ori farming above. Also TP trading, which requires a lot of learning first). could also mean easiest (see all the posts about champ trains). could also mean most fun (keep doing what you’re doing).
(edited by Mystic.5934)
I spend all mine of obby shards.
T1 → T2 refined (not all of them – you’ll have to figure out which one is best when you do it) is usually the best gold/SP (1-4 g/SP)
there are several forge weapons (that use Eldritch Scroll) that aren’t that bad (around 1g/SP)
crafting legendaries gives about 1-3g/SP, but also requires other things, so you can’t claim it all goes to SP profit. But it’s still worth noting.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Obsidian_Shard:
Acquisition
Tactician Deathstrider, when the Cathedral of Glorious Victory is under Pact control, for 2,100 each.
Laurel merchant in any city, three shards cost 3 .
BUY-4373 in the Fractals of the Mists, for 15 each.
Festival Rewards Vendor in Zephyr Sanctum and The Crown Pavilion , for 100 each.
Lost Orrian Jewelry Box (low, random chance)
Structured PvP reward track
also; mystic clover recipe has a small chance to drop them.
I’ll bring up this point: without the various forms of TP traders, inflation would run rampant in the game. TP tax is easily the largest gold sink in the game; orders of magnitude above the next-highest. And TP traders, in my estimation, make up more than half of all TP transactions.
To put some fake numbers to it:
let’s say 1 million gold entering the game per day through players completing dungeons and stuff.
to have no inflation you also need 1 million gold to leave the game per day. Players list things on the TP and 900 million gold leaves the game through TP tax. the other 100 million is taken care of with other gold sinks such as the gem exchange, icy runestones, cultural armor, etc.
If you remove all the TP trading professions, instead only 400 million gold leaves the game through TP fees (because more than half of that was stopped). So you’d have 500 million extra gold per day accumulating.
you thought precursor prices were high now? hehe. they’d all go up 100g a month and never stop, because people would have the money to pay those prices. By christmas, Dawn would be 1,600g.
Be as annoyed by them all you want; but just respect that each time they flip something, 30% of that gold leaves the game and delays inflation (15% on buy + 15% on sell).
note: gw2tp.com
there is a .net site that is completely unrelated. I believe you need to pay for premium to get similar functionality as the .com site.
same with TW. I always wonder if allies know it’s there to help them, or if enemies think it’s there to help them and thus, run into it.
in the end, I just say ‘kitten it’ and cast it wherever it’ll do the most good. If a feedback bubble appears over you, just assume it’s bad :P
isn’t there a perma hair style contract? pretty sure it costs as much as like 1000 single-use ones :P
more than the other top-demanded items. usually around 2.5 million. which doesn’t even require a bot or macro or anything against their ToS: buy order 250 things, once every 2 seconds (or as fast as you can click) for 5 hours while watching the matrix series and there you go. then it’ll take another 5 hours to remove all the orders when you’re done.
you have to buy order for at least the merchant amount, so it doesn’t work as easily when the item is priced at 2s (it requires 50,000g instead of 250g)
(edited by Mystic.5934)
the main page of the TP has 4 columns: highest price, most demanded, most supplied, and one other. all 4 of these are worthless IMO. But besides that, the prices they show are out of date and weirdly calculated: sometimes it seems to take the average of buy and sell price, sometimes just sell price, sometimes just the buy price.
But it’s apparent that some people pay attention to these, as there has been many instances of abuse recently where someone will place 2 million buy orders [for 1c each = 200 gold] for something, just so it will appear on that list so more people will see it and buy it and increase the price. After the person sells all their items, they just remove all the buy offers. This strategy is surprisingly effective and it looks like Anet isn’t really doing anything about it, but maybe I’m wrong. You don’t even need to cheat to make 2 million buy orders = 8000 orders of 250, at 1 order every 2 seconds, that would take 4 hours to place.
For items on the TP, there are 2 key prices: buy order price and sell listing price.
the buy order price is what people who want the item are offering for it
the sell listing price is what people who have the item are selling it for
when you want twilight, you can put in a buy order for it for 2790g and if someone who has it wants to sell it for that price, they can sell it to you and they will instantly get their gold
you can also instantly buy at the sell listing price of 3598g, and you will instantly get your twilight instead of waiting for someone to come along and agree to the lower price
conversely, if you have twilight to sell, you can sell instantly for the buy order price of 2790g or list it at 3598g and wait for someone to come along to buy it.
you can also set any price you want for either of these; it just won’t be filled first and any offers before yours would have to be filled or removed before yours was.
it’s all a question of if you want it now and expensive or later and cheaper.
thanks
a not-bad generalization about which named weapons can’t drop inscriptions even though they should is the exotics that can only come from champ bags. I believe you can get many different exotics from champ bags, but there are a few that only come from them, and it seems that those (or at least most of those) can’t drop inscriptions.
(edited by Mystic.5934)
a couple months ago I was buying leek on the TP for 3c then selling it to a merchant for 7c. you couldn’t place buy orders below 8c, but people were able to list it below that, and they just kept undercutting each other. only ever bought like 20 of them, but it was too funny not to spend a few minutes doing it.
or give it the same run speed that you have
I also want it to stay out until I put it away – not disappear between zones and wp’s and risen looking at it hungrily.
buy orders for legendaries are usually pretty close to the cost of all the materials that go into making a legendary. So if you buy-order it, you would spend about the same amount of gold but wouldn’t have to spend the time to get karma and SP and stuff.
I caution you: buying a legendary will make it feel less legendary to you. I love my Sunrise because I put long hours of work into making it. I usually don’t even remember I have Kraitkin.
to elaborate on Zaxares:
2. only exotics with Cavalier Tpf, Dire Ctv, Magi Hprv, Rabid Cprt, Sentinel Vpt, Shaman Vch, or Soldier Ptv stats. They will likely have those words as the prefix of the name, but not necessarily (lots of named exotics also have these stats – you’ll have to look at the stats to determine if it can). and, yes, can’t be the crafted ones (draconic, emblazoned, exalted, pearl, quaggan).
4. there are a few exotic named weapons that do not drop inscriptions even though all the other criteria were met: Guild Defender, King’s Remembrance, Poyaqui’s Noggin, Occultist Flame, Scepter of the Highborn, Defiant Blaze, Faithful, Monsoon (to reiterate: these WILL NOT drop inscriptions. If you find that one of these does give you an inscription, please let me know so I can adjust my list as that means they changed it in an update)
kitten I had to try it
lol! my guess is it looks too much like a rump
the supply of bolts of damask is also infinite.
mystic coins are actually much more finite than, say, platinum ore.
if the price for mystic coins goes up to 1g @ 100 million demanded, you can’t really fill that any time soon (probably would take around a year)
if the price for platinum ore goes up to 1g @ 100 million demanded, that could be filled within like 2 hours because everyone would be farming it as quickly as possible to capitalize on it asap.
with BLSK, the rate is about 61% chance to get an insignia from an armor (provided the armor is able to drop them). MSK has about a 42% chance
also, there are many armors that won’t give the insignia. any crafted armor won’t give it, no matter the prefix (draconic, emblazoned, exalted). there are also some named armors and dungeon armors that can drop them.
examples of exotics that can drop insignia:
dire orrian spreagun of rage
dire ceremonial stave of accuracy
dire sneakthief mask of the centaur
shaman’s seer coat of the flame legion
Galrath’s
Jatoro’s
Vatlaaw’s
Khilbron’s
(edited by Mystic.5934)
you know, I started like that, but then I realized that gift of legendary requires dungeon tokens and materials. bah. materials should be later. updated list:
1) Gift of Battle (Badges from WvW) + Bloodstone Shard (200 SP) + Gift of Exploration (Map Completion)
2) Mystic Clovers (Karma + SP)
3) Gift of Dungeon (dungeon tokens)
4) Gift of Mastery (Karma)
5) Precursor (gold)
6) 100 Icy Runestones (gold)
7) Gift of Legendary (gold and materials)
8) Gift of Magic + Gift of Might + Gift of Fortune (materials)
9) Legendary
I should add that the order will change depending on the player – what they already have and what types of activities they like doing.
50g/day probably includes monetizing the dungeon tokens and random loot drops, and every path of every dungeon. also;“day” typically has 24 hours. 3 hours per day will not make 50g in dungeons.
I’m currently investing all my gold, but I’m beginning to reconsider that and instead invest enough to keep like 11-12g in my pocket; never know what may come up you know?
like wp costs. there have definitely been times when I went crazy and placed too many buy orders. Instead of the sensible thing of reducing how many I ordered from 250 to 240, I ran from LA to queensdale and champ farmed for a few minutes. spider and boar got me enough to wp a couple times, then another round got me up to like 30s so I would have a bit of a buffer.
Thinking back, I’m not sure what would of happened had I died: not enough to wp, so you just lie there dead until someone runs by?
you shouldn’t have to do hours of research on impulse purchases.
Also Good Stuff
Another good response! I appreciate that you defined some things, I wasn’t quite organized enough when I made the opening post to do so myself. Out of curiosity, how do you treat/view items you have listed, but have yet to sell (specifically items that take a while to move)?
usually I’ll take it case-by-case.
A couple times a month I’ll do a crafting session and craft like 50 of a lot of different things. After about 2-3 days I’ll relist any of these that didn’t sell (usually about 50% have ~10 left and 10% have ~40 left), then relist again after another 2-3 days.
For high value things that I have a lot of, I typically don’t relist. Instead, I’ll list 5 or 10 every 3 days or earlier if the last batch sold. When I run out, I’ll remove all but the most recent listing and start again. It’s kinda like relisting, but not quite, as the price sometime swings up and gets listings that were stale.
For high value things that I don’t have a lot of, I’ll relist if there is a significant gap between current price and my price. by ‘gap’, I mean a lot of listings; price doesn’t really matter. 5 undercuts that reduce the price to half of my listing within a few hours is fine. 20 × 1c undercuts that stays like that for a few days and I’d probably relist.
I posted some stuff about EotM sieging in a topic on the wvw forums (check my post history if interested).
There are actually some quite nice bottlenecks (narrow paths) that are frequently passed by a karma train and targetable with a catapult from a sneaky spot. The catapult has a knockback and a target limit of 50 people, i think you get my drift….
The zerg I was in this one time was the target of something like that. We were trying to take Stonegaze Spire from the SE (where the bridge is). Someone on the Statuary’s gun kept hitting us repeatedly. We basically wiped. had to give him props, though; that was some very decent aiming he did.
June 14: 84 listed, 48s was lowest
June 15: 11 listed, 7g was lowest
June 16: 31 listed, 2g was lowest
June 17: 44 listed, 1.8g was lowest
June 22: 88 listed, 55s was lowest
personally, I see this as someone bought 70 of them, driving the price to 7g. Then people saw this and sold the ones they had.
I think its very rare that you can directly buy materials, craft something out of it and sell it to the highest bid while making a profit.
I see this as a challenge!
nope; couldn’t find one. closest I got was Darksteel Dagger Blade, which costs 13s14c to make via sell listing prices and sells for 13s95c via buy order (11s85c after tax).
most things that are craftable have a huge buy order / sell listing spread.
I would say it depends how much you own (sum of everything you own that can be sold). If you only own 10g, I would invest probably 20% and keep the rest on-hand (8g on hand). If you own 100g, I would invest closer to 60% (40g on hand). 1,000g; around 85% (150g on hand). 10,000g; around 95% (500g on hand).
by ‘on hand’, I mean being used for more instant-profit things like opening bags or ecto salvaging or crafting. It doesn’t have to be idle. Things on buy order count as ‘on-hand’ because you can remove it at any time. ‘invest’ I take to mean: buy something, save it for week(s)/month(s), then sell it.
my reason for this is to have gold available to do other opportunities if they pop up. Like if you have all your gold invested in unid dyes, then you hear jewelry level 500 is coming out, you might want to buy truck loads of mithril while it’s still cheap, but you can’t because you don’t have very much to buy it with and selling the unid dyes would be a loss.
Also, the amount would shift depending on how confident you are and how much risk you’re willing to take.
1. Buy Arrow Carts
2. Go to EotM
3. Shoot at the enemy karma train
4. Profit
hehehe I did this by myself once. it was glorious. it was on that cliff above the workshop (not directly above the workshop; across the gap near the gate). I saw them trying to break the gate down, so I had a bit of time to prepare. They couldn’t actually touch me. I just kept firing while they first streamed through the gate, then killed the champ, then while they were standing there trying to get credit for capturing the workshop. It actually helped that it was a huge zerg – they would rez the dead players, so I’d get more kills from the rezzers and the rezzees. 30-some kills in 2 minutes. When they left, I left. A few min later after we retook out keep back I checked the spot, and they had destroyed my AC
all of the promotions are currently profitable (if you buy normal siege using buy orders and sell superior with sell listings), but they only give about 7-10s/SP in profit. omega golem is currently the highest profit at 44s each (14s/SP)
