Mystic’s Gold Profiting Guide
Forge & more JSON recipes
You might want to include which general things you do. Like is it just crafting from common/fine materials? or is it farming arah then using the tokens to craft Bloodstone Fragment for 600% profit?
I had no idea this couldn’t be sold. I knew other components (like damask coat linings) could, and just assumed they all could.
does it go like this: armor components are sellable and weapon components are not? or are some weapon components sellable and others not?
Yo, wassup guyz?
I opted to dash-leap to get that crystal
just cancel the dash in mid air and maybe adjust your falling to be sure you land on something solid. Aim for the wheel’s bearing.
Lightning Pull faults too often (drops you short or long) and has too little room for adjustments in my opinion (either you randomly land it or you die). I only use LP when I have no other option.
honestly, the hardest part for me with all of these was finding them and a little bit of where to start from to get to them.
suggestion to all the mesmers out there: the hardest part for me used to be running out of charges when you’re 1 jump away from a crystal. but mesmers have portal
just drop a portal, jump down, get more charges, portal back up. portal isn’t just for a safety net against falling.
I bought one of each of these recipes when they first came out, figuring they would be like the potent potions and be able to make a profit months down the road. nope. it was only after buying them that I realized the cost. Anyways, I was one of the first people to list one of each station on the TP, and mine actually sold. I ended up making a small profit; enough that I recouped the cost to buy the recipes (not counting the brick). I haven’t even bothered to consider crafting those recipes since then.
It is literally cheaper to craft and mail potent potions to Every. Single. Player. on the entire map than to drop one of these stations. feasts are supposed to only be 10-30x the cost of the regular food. these stations are 10x as much as that.
decrease it to 1 ascended material, and have each crafting give 2 stations. then they’ll actually be used.
watchwork portal devices also need drastic price reductions.
agreed
also, dragon ball arena should also be included.Idk, then they would have to add in snowball mayhem as well.
yes, that one too! I knew I was forgetting something, and I’m sure we’re still forgetting one or two. maybe have an asura on the mountain manning a snow-making machine? :P
I think the jumping puzzles should not be included. activities are meant to be pvp-esque
then the problem is that when illusions die or are shattered, then you become primary target simply because you were next in line? Every time I use Decoy, the mob will always just stand at the spot I disappear from, taking hits from my phantasms, then chase me again when I reappear.
So, part of the appeal of mesmers is that they summon illusions that are supposed to be distractions to enemies; to take targets and get hit instead of you. except in pve the mobs always know which one is you. not cool. It’s annoying to build a character that is supposed to have decoys and the decoys don’t work.
/endrant
No. You will need to accumulate 200 gold to make it go away.
or spend some so it’s no longer close to completion.
I really hate when OP deletes their post and it looks like the first replier is OP.
more tips:
- use lightning pull on open ground to move faster. out of the gate, I will dash, lightning pull, grab all powerups (if one is aspect master, just keep dashing), dash, lightning pull, grab more powerups, run, lightning pull, dash, etc.
- grab crystals if they aren’t too far out of the way. dash consumes endurance (1/2 of full). crystals refill endurance. it only takes like 7 blue crystals to completely refill endurance (bigger crystals refill more). If you dash through crystals, you can just keep dashing constantly.
agreed
also, dragon ball arena should also be included.
they like to train us to be inconsistent, forcing you to drastically change your commands. “turret”, “kill the healer!”, “another one”, “over here”, “you should be hitting this thing right now”, “I like cake and this turret is taking it from me”, “yet another turret”, etc.
also, I agree that a lot of their suppression mechanisms block more legit uses than spam uses (another example of this is the TP’s error-attempting-to-sell)
I used http://zephyrcalc.wolchok.org/ to find the best rates. http://magiget.com/zephyr-box-calc/ is another good one + reddit has like 4 others besides these as well
But it takes too long to just get one type of material so I did the top 8 or so. In the end, I used piles of iron, gold, gossamer, rugged, coarse, and thin. I paid around 8-8.5s per box (buy orders for less than the current minimum, prices fluxuate).
I have no idea how Mauricio paid 4s per box. materials you gather yourself don’t count – if it takes 8.5s to buy the materials for 1 box, you could sell those same materials for 7.3s. cheaper, yes, but not zero. pretty sure iron needs 50 for 10 boxes – I didn’t notice any of them where the bulk rate was less than the individual.
no one is buying it at 2000g, so it is not worth 2000g. if they were buying it at 2000g, the sell listing price would be higher.
take the average of buy orders and sell listing and you’ll get much closer to the price that item is worth.
I bought 250 of those boxes using the tokens. got 3 rares and 1 exotic and the rest green.
so ~1.2% chance of rare, 0.4% chance of exotic (rough ballpark numbers).
so not strictly “100 shards = 1 green”, but close
Apart for the obvious drama potential your idea has, if I was Anet I wouldnt allow it. Though you probably wont do anything wrong or illegal as such, Anet needs to keep an eye on a lot of logs to make sure. They need to check that it isnt some white lvl 1 item changing hands for 100 gold. Every time.
But the drama potential alone would make me very sceptical.
Though it would be cool if you someday have your own stand in Lions ArchAgreed….my thought is Anet will feel allowing this type of “service” is not worth the effort they will have to put out to “police” it. It may work fine under their radar but when the first support tickets surfaces, they may be put in a position that requires account closure(s) to resolve for good.
Just mentioning it as a possibility.
They’ve already decided how much effort they are putting towards fighting scams: none. the most they do is tell players “We make trading player to player non-conducive because we don’t want players doing that and getting scammed (use the TP instead). If you want to get around this, then you’re on your own and we will never intervene.” Every post I’ve seen on these forums about “This guy scammed me, what can I do?” ends with “file a support ticket if you want, but nothing will come of it”, and support always gives them a copypasta of how they can’t do anything about it. The only time I’ve seen them intervene is when the player’s account is compromised/lost to a hacker, and in that case Anet resets that account to how it was a few days before.
I think most people aren’t complaining that they are getting bupkis for hard-earned blade shards.
I’m sorry but blade shards dropped like crazy during the LA event. They were by far not hard earned.
agreed: people are not complaining about a poor exchange rate for hard-earned items because they weren’t hard-earned. Instead, they are complaining about being mislead about what they would get for them.
At most, they should of said something calmer, such as: “rumor has it that a vendor is coming to town that will buy blade shards from you”, then not insist people to save save save them.
Oh and they did pretty much exactly what you said:

Trading
Rumors tell of a merchant interested in items from major events in Tyria’s recent history, including Blade Shards. Players are encouraged to hold on to these items if they are interested in trading with her when she appears.
They should of stopped there, but they didn’t, they instead added hype:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/archive/escape/What-to-do-with-4250-Blade-Shards/first#post3732808
Please don’t delete them!
You can hold on to your extra blade shards, as the team will be adding something later which will allow you to convert the shards to something of value. Dev will be announcing more on that later. Thanks!
Next: 250 Equipment Bags
Results:
246 masterwork
3 rare
1 exotic (Zhed’s Leggings)
huh. That 17g above is assuming 1 in 10 was rare (for my blade shards I got 11 masterwork and 1 rare). that rate was clearly wrong. that 17g should actually be 11g. (though I feel I got lucky with zed’s – anyone else want to add to this? :P)
I bought a few zephyr boxes :P
5,688 boxes (455g), and this is what I got out of them:
3 Mini Reef Rider = 1g (odd choice of mini to give)
502 Queen’s Gauntlet Tickets = 20g + 3,514 Festival Tokens = 26g
5 x Medium Air Filtration Device = 2g
4 x Heavy Air Filtration Device = 2g
31,331 Quartz = 84.6g
10,007 Festival Tokens = 17g
566 Celestial Item recipe = 17g
113 Satchel of Celestial Armor = 6.8g (when I click ‘buy more from TP’, why does it say these sell for 1g, 4g, and 20g, but when I click the item, they say like 4s? I’d prefer to sell them for 20g)
1 Celestial Intricate Gossamer Insignia = 2s (this was interesting. I remember last year I got more of these than all the item recipes combined – same with the inscriptions)
total = 156g return
but if I wait 3 months, quartz might go up to 1.5s each, bringing these to a 462g value = exactly break even :P
thank you for sharing this daily dose of science with me
(edited by Mystic.5934)
So glad that I deleted all of mine.
agreed. had I known I’d get 70s worth of stuff for 6 stacks of blade shards, I would of deleted mine as well. bank space is worth more than that.
I think most people aren’t complaining that they are getting bupkis for hard-earned blade shards. They are complaining that they were specifically told to save them, which greatly implies the thing you are saving it for is actually valuable. At most, they should of said something calmer, such as: “rumor has it that a vendor is coming to town that will buy blade shards from you”, then not insist people to save save save them.
My suggested order of things to get:
1) Gift of Battle + Bloodstone Shard + Gift of Exploration
2) Mystic Clover
3) Gift of Mastery
4) Precursor + 100 Icy Runestone
5) Gift of Legendary
6) Gift of Magic + Gift of Might + Gift of Fortune
7) Legendary
It costs 2,132g to buy everything you need to make sunrise, Dawn was 850 of that, and Mystic Clovers are 83g. So 43.76% of the way there :P likely more, as the clovers would of given you T6 mats for gifts of might and magic (and now I want to play heroes of might and magic…), but then there’s exploration, which is hard to quantify :P I will guesstimate you are 85% of the way done.
Good potential issue identified there if this is a gold selling grey area insofar as the interest goes, will look into this. However, it is similar to loan sharking yes, but no it is much more in line with how a pawn shop operates. I would receive items that can be sold on the TP (collateral). If the loan is not repaid, i sell the items and recover my initial lay-out. So no need to enforce any repayment. They don’t want to pay, they don’t get there stuff back. It makes it interesting in a few other ways such as perhaps the items i take as collateral go way up in price. Then potentially if someone defaults i could make a huge profit from the default. Or maybe the collateral takes a huge dive in price and the loanee decides to keep the money and not repay, hence sticking me with nearly worthless collateral. This is mostly how a pawn shop works. Thanks tho!
you sound like Butters describing his kissing company to the banker lady. It might have differences and similarities to certain things, but you should call it what it is: a “loan”. “loan shark” just means someone who gives out loans with high interest and physical repercussions for not paying it back. You’re unable to do the 2nd part, so I wouldn’t call this being a “loan shark”, but this is much closer to being a lending company than pawn shop. I’ve never even heard of pawn shops giving people loans.
You’re going to have some difficulties in doing this:
biggest difficulty would be getting a name for yourself as someone who is trustworthy and won’t scam the borrowers
after that, you’re going to have a big problem with people scamming you.
as a third-biggest problem, I would say collateral. meaning that someone looking to borrow 100g wouldn’t have 100g worth of stuff for you to hold onto. If they did, they would just sell it and then have 85g (the difference from 100g is probably close to the interest you would charge?)
but as far as if you are allowed to do this, I would say that you certainly could, as long as you don’t accept repayments outside of the game, for example. (or you would be a gold seller)
the ability to buy these recipes was the only thing I was looking forward to with this festival. a resounding YES, I DO want the ability to buy them while the crown pavilion is open.
I forget which chest gave what, but I saved all the chests and opened them at the same time :P 25 obsidian shards total.
that’s actually really disappointing. I was hoping legendary armor would have almost the same recipe as legendary weapons – except precursor armor instead.
I also want one – and the other 2 ascended mats.
I’m picturing an exchange rate of about 10 ascended mats : 1 zephyr box
reason for the low rate is that it is actually pretty hard to get these mats – we only have bank slots full because we’ve been saving them for a year. How long would it take to get 10 bloodstone? maybe 5 min? take a look at the other material exchanges – how long does it take to get 5 iron? 14 soft wood? 2 linen?
Before the patch, copper ore was selling for about 30 copper. (It has exploded in price since, speculators rejoice!).
The current buy price for iron ingots (many of them used for ascended crafting) is about 2.5 silver (sell price about 3 silver).
500 copper ore will refine to 250 bronze ingots, costing 30 copper * 500 plus 8 copper (lumps of tin) * 50 = 1g 54s.
250 bronze ingots + 1 iron ingot + T2 dust + 1 skill point = some number of iron ingots. The average number of iron ingots is not known, but I think it’s about 80.
Reglecting the cost of the 1 iron ingot + dust, you will get about 2g 40 s – 15% = 2g 4s money back.
2g 4s-1g 54s = 50 silver per skill point. A nice 30% profit but it’s not 4 gold.
Is jute to wool more profitable?
Your math looks right, except I think it’s currently slightly cheaper to buy the bronze ingot than craft it (from experience, I can tell you buy orders on them get filled fairly quickly). of all the common T1->T2, ore is currently the 2nd lowest profit/SP (leather is 10s/SP) the rest are more appealing
4 × 18 slot bags + 1 × 20 slot bag = 92 slots
but the 55 is clearly not the case :P
maybe 15 dungeon paths = 20g in like 4 hours?
you’re not alone – no link.
I can’t find the emissaries (Rata Sum Emissary, Hoelbrak Emissary, etc.)
Are they mia? They are literally the only part of queen’s gauntlet I was looking forward to. (specifically: the recipes for runes/sigils)
I don’t see why the server-client interaction couldn’t be like:
scenario 1:
client: I’m jumping! yup, I jumped, here’s how that went down …
server: I see you jumped a second ago, I’ve completed the calculations, and yes, you did in fact jump
scenario 2:
client: I’m jumping! yup, I jumped, here’s how that went down …
server: I see you jumped a second ago, I’ve completed the calculations, and it’s close, but doesn’t quite compute correctly… I’ll add 1 to your likeliness_to_be_a_hacker score. If it hits 10 within the next hour, You’ll require my approval before doing any such tricky maneuvers in the future.
scenario 3:
client: I’m jumping! yup, I jumped, here’s how that went down …
server: I see you jumped a second ago, I’ve completed the calculations, and I’m calling shenanigans. You went straight from the bottom of the mad king’s clock tower to the top like superman. You get 100 added to your likeliness_to_be_a_hacker score, returned to where you were, will permanently require my approval before doing even the tiniest movement, and an email has been sent to security to see if you deserve a ban.
what happened to “Rumors tell of a merchant interested in items from major events in Tyria’s recent history, including Blade Shards. Players are encouraged to hold on to these items if they are interested in trading with her when she appears.”
are blade shards the only thing this merchant is interested in???
there have been kitten storms about a lot of things – they all blow over after a couple weeks. it’s really exhausting being mad about something for a long time
:*( near as I can tell, nothing in the notes about fixing ‘error attempting to sell’
and just like that guy on reddit, I care about that more than whether LS2 content is permanent or not.
Seriously, some things stand out in patch notes as I read them. If that is ever in there, I’ll just stop reading, leave work without a word, go and test it, then shout from the rooftop, then maybe read the rest of the notes if I remember.

They are fixing “Error attempting to sell”?
OH SWEET JESUS THANK YOU
you just made my year! where is this, I MUST FIND THE SOURCE!
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Eldritch_Scroll
from my count, 6 of these give 1-2g/SP profit, 3 give 2-3g/SP profit, 1 gives 3-4g/SP profit, 2 give 4+g/SP profit.
p.s. you should definitely craft Naegling. costs 31g + 50SP and sells for 945g. that’s 15.4g per SP profit! you’ll have the lowest sell listing, but it won’t sell: sell listings for this had 1 at 50g, then 1 at 945g and that was it. someone bought the 50g one a few hours ago :P
all of these are a.w.e.s.o.m.e.
it’s either the elite skill key or the healing skill key to return to normal. rarely it’ll be weapon swap.
also, I would say to make gift of might and magic last when making a legendary. the reason is that if you get them first, you’ll then be grinding out gold for the precursor, getting T6 mats in the process, and just selling them to the TP for the gold. It would be more economical to not buy those mats in the first place and have the ones you find go toward these gifts. basically save the 15% TP tax.
overall, this is my suggested order of things to complete for a legendary:
1) Gift of Battle + Bloodstone Shard + Gift of Exploration
2) Mystic Clover
3) Gift of Mastery
4) Precursor + 100 Icy Runestone
5) Gift of Legendary
6) Gift of Magic + Gift of Might + Gift of Fortune
7) Legendary
If I could craft ascended luck I would be sooooo happy
maybe 5 exotic : 2 ascended? (to keep the 500 part)
I stopped grinding luck around 250 because it just takes forever after that, and I know I’ll get to 300 just doing what I normally do (salvage all blues and greens I find). I currently gain about 1%mf per month doing fractals/eotm/wvw
I think red is better off just because retaking our keep is child’s play due to the workshop, then the wurm tunnels make taking other places quicker.
that’s beautiful.
GO FOR 1,000,000!
current value upon sale: 1,130.5g
if they add these in any way to the four winds update and their price quadruples, sale value = 4,522g (3391g profit)
but, if you had a million instead, that would be 33,910 gold profit!
like that sigil of water video?
it’s price went from 4s to 40s, then up to 80s when the patch actually went live, and is now down to 2s :P
(edited by Mystic.5934)
the problem with beyond-300% mf is that people will then go there. they capped it at 300% so that once someone reached it, they would stop getting more luck and not just complain about nothing to use the luck they are farming on.
personally, I’m a bigger fan of no limit, but every level requires twice as much luck as the level before it, so there is no technical limit, but also is impractical to go above 300. you thought 200 to 300 was bad? if it doubled every time after 300, going from 300 to 310 would require 61,380,000 luck (as much luck as going from 1 to 300… 14 times) :P
nothing like necro’ing a fascinating 7-month-old post
one website that does exactly what you want (there are others):
http://ec2-174-129-236-8.compute-1.amazonaws.com:8000/gw2sp2g/
(You’ll need to copy/paste that into your url bar, as gw2 forum’s markup seems to cut off where the link ends)
dungeons / eotm / gold farming will get you around 3-7 g/hour. This does include selling everything you get to the TP.
There isn’t any easy way around that. With a few small tips you could extend 4g income to 4.5g income (such as selling to a merchant if the TP price is too close to the merchant price, or refining the materials before selling them), but you will never get double digits consistently.
If that income isn’t enough for what you want, the only alternative is some sort of TP trading. There are lots of posts on here and the other Game Discussion forums about ways to make coin off the TP.
- place four lvl 80 exotic weapons into mystic forge
from what I’ve been able to collect from other people’s research (mostly on reddit), this drop rate is roughly 1 in 127 attempts (508 exotics) = 0.787%.
the rare → precursor seems to be a bit less likely than you would expect: 1 in 785 attemps (3140 rares) = 0.127%
the numbers required to get a a good sample size for this are astronomical, and these numbers would only be considered ballpark approximations (around 77 precursors crafted to generate this data)
