nope. I salvaged 1,120 rare charred back warmers on friday and got 4 stacks of ecto + 3 more.
at 0.9 ecto / rare, I should of got 1,008. so I was a little unlucky at 0.8955 ecto / rare
‘time gate’, in this context, means that you have to do 30 dungeon runs, 30 world events, and kill 30 champions, then just buy the things that Anet thinks time gatting means from the TP.
I laughed hysterically for like 30 minutes when I found out that the ‘time gated’ material can just be bought off the TP. Out of all ascended items that could be tradable, the only ones that Anet wants you to have a limited supply of is /purchasable/, so there is no limited supply. my roommates looked at me funny for being beat red and crying.
don’t stand under him. he falls on you and you die. stand as far away from him as you can still hit him when he’s low on health. first time, I died and it was funny (I’m a good lily pad hopper). all subsequent times, I haven’t died.
when in air, you can move forward/back/left/right, same as any falling. if you know where it goes with no movement, you can correct for it. or if you can determine the trajectory and compensate. it’s possible to get hole-in-ones.
1g is not bad. ascended trinkets sell for 6s.
I’d like to see salvaging of ascended trinkets included in this suggestion. I will suggest that salvaging them should give a few ascended crafting materials (maybe 1-3 Deldrimor Steel Ingot or Spiritwood Plank or Mithrillium or Glob of Elder Spirit Residue?)
ohhhhh. I didn’t make the connection at first.
all of my recipe: potent superior sharpening stones sold, I had about 30 posted at 20g each
(purchased for 1g several weeks ago)
I’m guessing people are crafting superior sharpening stones (and potent) to max out weaponsmithing asap.
this killed me at least 30 times before I found out it was turn-offable.
mouse button 4 is awesome for dodge! I also use mouse button 5 for primary attack (instead of number key 1). frees up the left hand for moving and specialty skills.
blue salvage for 11 luck + ~50c or TP for ~1s
green salvage for 30 luck + ~50c or TP for ~3s
ecto salvage for 100 luck + 1.8 dust – 61c (MSK) or TP for 32s
your choice.
luck seems to be worth about 5c each. 4.2 million needed to get to 300% mf = 2,100g
I’ll fix your typo: Dailies have burned people out
completionists hate dailies with a vengeance
that is exactly the chest I would like to find.
he is requesting how to get info on a computer, not the info itself. it would take a foolish person indeed to make the leap to sending an example of what that info would include.
A while ago I was wondering why almost all scams you see have horrendous grammar and spelling, so I looked into it. They do it so only people foolish enough to fall for it will respond. scammers may send out 100,000 emails, it would be a lot of hard work if they got 100,000 replies about where to get info of their computer, many of which will probably be links to ehow.com, not to mention a drain on their resources. Instead, they word it so 99.9% wisest recipients discard it as a scam (all of which wouldn’t fall for it in the first place), leaving the people who would fall for it. 0.1% of 100,000 is still 100 replies. much more reasonable. then they copy/paste a generic reply, probably something like “thanks for the response, I still don’t think I have the right info, what does yours look like?”
a 0.1% drop rate on legendary essence would only increase the average by 0.5 (I assume the chance is less than 1%, as 100 ecto did not get it, and 100 ectos only gave 1 exotic)
salvaging ecto for dust USED to be profitable…
the chart also doesn’t take into account any proc-on-crit things. I favor precision a bit because I have a chance to fire blast, give me vigor, apply bleeding, steel health. but 50% chance to crit is good enough, as most of these don’t need to crit every time. but I don’t even run berserker’s or assassin’s :P
salvaging about 83 green items will replace the loss of that 2500 luck.
crystalline ingot is probably an ascended gem/jewel. to make an amulet, you need a setting, chain, gemstone.
I would expect deldrimor to be used to make the setting and chain (just like how mithril or ori is currently used), so I have no idea where xunlai would fit in. maybe it’s a second T7 metal? like how there’s darksteel ingots and platinum ingots?
what would take up less space:
200 listings of 1 byte (1 byte has max 256, so 200 × 250 = buying 50,000 items)
or
1 listing of 2 bytes (2 bytes has max 65,535, so 1 × 50,000 = buying 50,000 items)
I’m betting that the first example (how it currently is) takes up far more than 100 times as much memory, due to it having to also save who you are, how much is it for, etc.
true, with the majority of listings people rarely buy more than 250 items. But I’d bet that the number of items where people do frequently buy more than 250 at a time is much more than 1% of the number of different items, probably closer to 10%.
it is a stealth change, yes.
several people in my guild who are able to always be on when patches go live made killings off these. they spent the better part of 4 hours after patch buying and salvaging every single rare back item they could get their hands on for less than the price of ectos.
myself, I’m kicking myself a little for this, but just a little:
somewhere around february, I puchased about 6,000 Charred Back Warmers for 1s25c (1c above their merchant price), cost about 75g total. I also purchased about 1,000 various spineguards for 2s or less, cost about 20g. To store these, I decided to post them on the TP for 50s each, which cost about 175g (if I were to buy extra character slots, this would of cost FAR more. 100 characters, bags, a nightmare of shuffling items, yikes.)
The theory was that Anet had overlooked these and they should be salvageable and I only had to wait for the update that would make them thus. At the time, ectos were almost 40s, and the Warmers had a socket worth 30s (which is about 8s now). So if Anet made that change, I was looking at almost 4,000 gold after tax from a 270g investment. Today, it would be closer to 2,300 gold after tax.
Then they added exotic spineguards to karma merchants somewhere in april/may. karma items have never been salvageable. I was worried that they were planning to add these rare back items to karma merchants and that was the reason they weren’t salvageable. I kept sitting on my hoard. At the end of June, I was nearly finished with my first legendary, just needed the precursor, but I was basically broke. I had had enough, so I took them all off the TP and sold mostly to a merchant but also a bit to the TP (the price on them, expecially the spineguards, had gone up – many of the spineguards even sold at the 50s mark). I sold them for probably about 200g, finished my Kudzu, then sold it on the TP for 600g more than it cost me to make it, after tax. Since then, I’ve invested and multiplied my wealth to around 4,000g worth.
Do I wish I hadn’t offloaded them? yes. But I wouldn’t have as much as I do now if I didn’t, so it’s not all bad.

good ideas! forgot that armor will eventually be rolled out.
elonian leather is currently used to make string for ascended bows. it will probably also be used to make armor, yes.
ah! I missed Damask (and silk weaving thread) when making this thread.

Further searching lead me to find these two numbers:
blue 70+ = 10.5 luck on average
green 70+ = 29.3 luck on average
this blue number agrees with the numbers above. If the green is also true, that’s 143,344 masterwork items needed to get 300%
I haven’t found any good numbers for low-level blues and greens, yet.
Xunlai Electrum Ingot – “Refined from silver, gold, platinum, and mithrillium.”
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Xunlai_Electrum_Ingot
maybe this was a preliminary idea before they chose to go with Deldrimore Steel Ingot?
Crystalline Ingot – "Refined from crystalline ore. "
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Crystalline_Ingot
They are both listed on the wiki’s crafting material list
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Crafting_material#Ascended_crafting_materials
but appear to have no uses and no way to get them?
the wiki says level 100 takes 122,540 luck
reddit calculated the total luck needed for 300% mf is around 4.2 million
reddit also found that 2500 fine level 70 items gave 26,330 luck = +62%
122,540 / 26,330 * 2500 = 11,635 salvaged fine items for 100% mf
4.2 million / 26,330 * 2500 = 398,784 salvaged fine items for 300% mf
I’m not sure if lower levels give less luck or not…
400k salvages on the infinite SK would cost 120g to salvage, or 20.8g cheaper than basic SK, which is half the price of purchasing the infinite SK :P If you had 8 × 20-slot bags, it would take 2,515 times of filling all of them and salvaging everything in it.
sheeeeeesh; I hope masterwork gives more luck per salvage.
events. especially invasions, where you can do 1 event per minute or so.
then again, I would occasionally get a bug randomly where the invasion event would give me normal exp and coins, but only like 15 or 16 karma (for gold credit). well, do enough of them and it averages out to worthwhile.
I had yakkington’s ring (infused), it told me I had to re-pick the stats. I chose celestial. now it is yakkington’s ring (infused) with celestial stats and +5 AR with infusion: +5 precision and +5 AR.
I haven’t tried equipping it alongside lunaria yet… (both have defensive slot) I assume it would equip just fine.
I had Mad King’s Shoulders (medium) listed on the TP for 22g. I was flipping it from 10g. The update removed it from the TP and turned it account bound. Most costly ecto I’ve ever purchased. Can’t win them all.
the 30 min foods are usually like 80% the price of their 1hr food counterparts. cheaper, yes, but not if you plan on using the food for long periods.
that’s the idea
So I just entered SAB for the first time this release. in my inventory, I had 10 baubles and 10 continue coins. when I entered, I had 99 lives. anyone else blessed with such fortune?
So, I decided to see the change in rewards from cashing out karma. First, note that this is purely theoretical. I am just taking other people’s work, some of my observations, and producing an estimate.
Some things I know:
- Before this update, 23,000 karma could get you 1g (buy orrian boxes, open, open all karma potions while having +95% bonus karma, repeat) source: http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1bs9ki/for_boredom_8071700_karma_spent_on_1774_lost/
- if you open all karma potions from these purchased boxes with +95% bonus karma, you got about 75% of the karma you spent back in the form of karma potions. (put in 23,000 karma, open boxes for 17,250 karma) source: me taking notes the last time I spent 1M karma, plus that reddit post agrees.
Based on this I can calculate some expected results:
- 0.75 return * 1.5 new karma bonus / 1.95 old karma bonus = 57.7% new karma return (put in 23k karma, open boxes for 13,269 karma)
- 23,000 + 17,250 + 12,938 + … = 92,000. This is about how much total karma you went through when you started with 23,000 karma (pre-patch)
- 23,000 + 14,145 + 8,699 + … = 54,364. This is how much total karma you will go through when you start with 23,000 karma (post-patch)
- 23,000 * 92,000 / 54,364 = 38,922. This is about how much karma you need to start with to get 1g in rewards from opening lost orrian boxes.
TLDR: now, 38,922 karma = 1g from buying lost orrian boxes
I assume you’re referring to the inflation that can be seen here (http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/19725 = Ancient Wood Log):
O_O what the puppy!?!? ancient wood log jumped wayyyyyy more than ori. buy listings to 14s.
kinda funny how people are focusing on ori ore. I assume refining ancient wood planks can also get you to level 425.
don’t follow vashoom’s advice to the letter! I got rich precisely because I crafted a legendary… then sold it
600g profit after tax. it’s equipping a legendary that bankrupts you.
invasions are the best atm. just join and follow a zerg. expecially aetherblade pirates, also flame shaman. some watchworks… essentially all the ones that have champions.
(more players = more champs. huge zerg pirate invasion events can spawn upwards of 12 champions in 4 minutes) just make sure to tag all of them before they dissolve, frequently 2 will spawn at once)
wait, 27660 luck? as in 27 thousand, 6 hundred and 60 luck? how much gives you +1% mf?
no exploit. people are just lazy and prefer to buy them than make them themselves. or they don’t have the recipe (it no longer drops, and getting it from the TP costs like 10g). I’m not going to make them if I don’t get more for selling them than they are worth – so is everyone else that makes them.
you can (or should be able to) make an ascended with the stats you want, then transmute them onto your mini legendary.
karma infusion doesn’t work? or do you mean because people were only using them for opening karma potions?
honestly, I think I got good return on my karma infusion.
cost 40 laurels total, which otherwise could of got 80 unid dye = 17.6g
during the time I had it, I opened enough karma potions to give me 3M karma (before the potions from orrian boxes) with orrian boxes, 23k karma = 1g. math:
3M * 1.8 / 1.95 = 2.769M karma, so already I would of had 230k less = 10g
but the 23k karma = 1g is only for +95% karma. for +80%, you would get far less (since it builds on itself = exponential. 3M ^ 1.95 is MUCH larger than 3M ^ 1.8)
I don’t really want to do the rest of the math, but I know I got much more gold with this karmic infusion than I would of had I not got it.
I would like to salvage ascended stuff for ascended crafting materials. makes sense, too.
I have a few dozen extra rings…
you can re-assign the magic find items. but, yes, this totally kittens those who have a mf set and the other set they like using. then again, the mf set is now account-bound, so not the worst that could happen. really, the only thing that could of been better was to make them non-account-bound, but they couldn’t really do that because then it would possibly give an unfair advantage to mf users.
I started playing GW2 before the mac version came out, so I put bootcamp on one of my drives. highest settings, it worked great.
then the mac version came out, I installed it, same highest settings, it worked just as great with no difference in anything.
now, I have a pretty beefed up Mac Pro, so I am not familiar with the differences on lower settings. What I have read agrees with phooka, that bootcamp will run a little faster than the Mac version, but only a little bit.
!!! well, this should increase the price of all rare lodestones, and would increase the price of all cores, except most cores are more common than thick leather. buy all the charged lodestones while you can! I’m always not home when they do updates, so I never get the chance to profit off them.
Buttercup is right. you get 5 potions, not 1.
for a couple months I have been making these by the 1000’s for 20+% profit.
1,000 ecto = 1,800 Crystalline Dust
300 Crystalline Dust = 300 Master Tuning Crystal
300 Master Tuning Crystal + 1,500 Crystalline Dust = 1,500 Potent Master Tuning Crystal
a month ago, 1,000 ecto cost 170g and costs 6.14g to salvage into dust (176 total)
a month ago, 1,500 Potent Master Tuning Crystal would sell for 247g (210g after tax)
34g profit = 19.3%, and all 1,500 would sell within 2 hours.
with ectos going up so much in price, and crystals being delayed in the price increase, for the past week it has cost more to make these than how much you sell them for. :*( the same is true for the other potent consumables (they all give 5… I remember the wiki being wrong for one of them).
try it and let me know!
also, how much of each?
This would be a polishing update. Something to enhance our experience.
I always find it cheap when you come across a NPC in a village, for example, and they tell you something along the lines of “I need you to bring me 10 bundles of wood so I can have a fire through the winter, I will reward you with experience.” Long ago, this was cutting-edge and a fine practice, but we’ve advanced since then. Every time I see it now, I see it as the easy way out – a short cut – on the part of game developers who want to add empty content.
It would be much more realistic and satisfying if you ran into them in the forest, collecting wood, and they asked you to help them collect their wood rather than do it for them. There are a couple events in GW2 where the event NPC does help, but these are mostly defend-the-NPC-type events. I want to see more helping by some of these NPCs. Not so much that they solo it in 5 minutes, and probably give them a LOT of life so they are still around when you walk by, but just enough that they will actually be filling that meter when no one is around to help them.
as an example, “Collect golem parts for Walla’s hazmat suits” event in Metrica Province. He just stands out of harms way and tells you to risk your life for some spare parts for his benefit. I would like to see him attacking those golems and picking up golem parts. obviously, he wouldn’t be very good at it, but he’s trying. I could see him killing a golem in about 2 minutes, so if no one helped him, it would take 40 minutes to collect 20 parts for himself. And give him a lot of life, enough so he wouldn’t die in those 40 minutes, but not enough so it’s not possible for him to die.
People would also be more likely to help if they saw someone struggling instead of standing there, not to mention if the quota was already half done.
power is not way better than precision. for pure damage, it is likely better. I haven’t confirmed the math myself, but let’s say it is for now.
precision increases your chance to crit.
I don’t know about you, but when I crit, I tend to apply bleeding, gain vigor, gain endurance, and hit them with a aoe fire ball, which effectively doubles my damage.
they said that the stats that are available depend on what item it is. some items are able to obtain from specific locations, so I bet the stats available to you will be the other option from those locations. for example, if it’s a item that can be crafted (exalted, for example), you’ll have your choice of other stats that exalted could have.
my thinking is that celestial is not in the same group of craftable items as any of the mf stuff out there, so it wouldn’t be an option.
I do hope I’m wrong, but I don’t think I am.
personally, I’m wondering what will happen to things like lunaria yakkington’s ring. it wasn’t specifically mentioned, but will we be able to pick which stats we want from mf-containing ascended trinkets? and what about unique things with mf? like ancient karka shell
yes, but selling 100 at 5c will always cost less than 1 × 5c 100 times.
and 100 people each buying 1 is the worst case scenario, with the best being 1 person buying 100.
basically, selling low value stuff in bulk will always be more profitable than not in bulk. you just won’t know how much more profitable until after it happens, as Behellagh described.
They made a comment about this a while ago… if only the search function worked. apparently they believe ascended still fits into their grand scheme of no gear treadmill because they had intended to eventually add ascended when they launched, but just didn’t tell anyone about it. I wonder how many other tiers they will add, saying that it was intended to have tier 7, 8, 9, 10, etc. from the start…
up up! higher higher!
can’t get them anymore, they give you valuable jade weapons, which will also go up in price as supply is very limited and the skins are awesome!
yes, I do have almost 10,000 of these that I would like to sell for around 10s
Dragonbrand, Bloodtide Coast, this last sunday, I crafting my first legendary I was going to keep (Sunrise) during the scarlet fight via a conduit, the timer stopped at 0:00, event succeeded, I have no proof, though I did make a post on https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/crafting/Post-YOUR-legendary-progress/page/11#post2718485 a few days ago.
she actually started giving her speech just before the timer got to 0:00, but it kept going down, and she was still giving her speech after it stopped at 0:00
