Mystic’s Gold Profiting Guide
Forge & more JSON recipes
it’s easy to sell 1 item every 3 seconds: click item on left, click ‘match lowest sell listing’, click ‘sell’. If you do this, you get the error and can’t list the 7th item = ~21 seconds.
this has been on the TP as long as GW2 has been running, you probably just didn’t start selling quickly before now. as far as I know, no developer has ever made a comment regarding the bug that is this error message.
I agree, it’s primary goal is to encourage botting. a bot can easily be programmed to list 6 things, wait 30 seconds, list 6 things, wait 30 seconds = 17,280 listings per day.
it’s 15% total tax. (5% when you list, 10% on sale)
however, if it’s low values, rounding will kitten you over as they always round against you:
sell for 5c
5% listing fee = 1c
10% final value fee = 1c
final profit = 3c (60%, not 85%)
so if you sell anything for less than 20c, I highly recommend selling in larger quantities.
100 gems currently costs ~5.1 gold, so 92 gold to transfer. currently, people farm invasion champions and are reporting up to 10 gold in 45 minutes, so it’ll probably take 10-15 hours (there is one 45-minute invasion each hour).
Unfortunately for those that took vacations, they announced they would add the transfer fee, gave everyone like 2 weeks to get to the server of their choice for free, enabled the transfer fee. this was back in like feb. I feel they primarily did this because people were abusing server transfers (there was a rich ori node in Southsun, always in the same spot. People would park all 8 of their alts there, be in server A, mine 10 ori on all characters, move to server B, mine 10 ori on all characters, move to server C, etc. 24 servers x 8 alts x 10 ori ore = 1,920 ori ore in 1 hour per day = ~60 gold on the TP) Of course, they removed that rich node a few weeks after adding the transfer fee; guess they liked the idea of people buying gems too much to go back to free transfers.
guesting helps, but would be very annoying as a replacement for transfer. you can guest to two different servers of your choice every 24 hours. just can’t WvW, but otherwise you can be in that server’s zones. every time you go back to character select screen, you need to re-select the server you are guesting onto.
also, a lot of things work cross-server, such as dungeons. again, a small consolation.
yes, they have changed the end game. now it’s endless mega events – different one every 2 weeks. It’s pretty much the same thing at each one, but at least the scenery changes. currently, check out the west side of Divinity’s Reach near the WP, and there’s a Living Story update for which zone Scarlet is currently invading (many events in the same zone, kill lots of things, grab lots of loot, zerg boss fight)
yes, there are new cosmetics, some are free, some are costly, some are grind-friendly
there is a typo on the TP page:
“projected profit” should say “projected return”, as the actual projected profit is: list amount – listing fee – final value fee, which in this case would be 85s. return would tell you that that is how much you should expect to pick up after the item sells, while you pay 5s when you list the item.
they recently made it worse, too. before june, you could keep hitting sell / ok / sell / ok until tit finally let you through (how much unnecessary bandwidth did THAT create?). then they updated it so each time you hit sell it restarts the timer you have to wait. For giggles I recently set up an auto-clicker to click once every second and tried to sell this one item. I set it to go, went to the TV, watched a movie, came back, it was still erroring the same item.
dungeons can get around 10g/day
farming can get upwards of 10g/hour
TP flipping is less predictable, but I’ve sometimes got around 100g/day with the right purchases. better to give in terms of gold/week, because some things take longer to sell. I make about 200g/week.
there’s no way it’s there so they can have a cheaper TP server. 2 queries per post (one to list, one to take it away from you). compare that to a dungeon boss fight. every single attack and condition is a query. 5 players, plus boss. easily 3 actions per second (proc on hit, apply protection on dodge, etc.) for everyone, plus ads. easily get into triple digits PER SECOND for one party (this is why they limit conditions to 25 stacks, which is fairly reasonable given how much goes on). now how many dungeon runs are there at any give time? queries are stupid low bandwidth. servers only get bogged down around the 100k queries per second mark. besides, you’ll still list the same number of things per day, making the average no different. there’s no reason everyone would wait for the hour hand to tick over to list everything, so there wouldn’t be huge spikes throughout the day. If there was no speed limit, people would list everything and be gone, freeing up access for the next person. as is, they are forced to stick around. sort of like having a 100-lane freeway available but only letting 1 car per second to enter.
the fact that they don’t limit buying shows that they aren’t starving for bandwidth. buying would use exactly the same number of queries as selling. I know I buy at least 10 times more stuff than I sell.
but they’re spending all their time on temporary content and parties! that’s what everyone wants, right?
/end sarcasm/Yes, because as all of us know, every single ArenaNet staff member is working on the Living Story.
/end sarcasm/
that’s the point. They are prioritizing their big plans and have no one devoted to common living updates. That 1-year update said they had 200 staff making the game. they couldn’t even spare 1 person for simple game-enhancing updates as have been suggested here? I’m sure adding a light/med/heavy search to the TP would take 1 person an hour to do. They just don’t consider it needed. Instead, they are spending all their time on things they can brag about in the news. and they are telling everyone they update so frequently. pft. even the word “update” has a different definition for them.
yes, things that take you 40 years to get should be enjoyable in the mean time. Hunting down the war supply support is not at the top of that list. Now, if it was something along the lines of “Kill 1,000,000 enemies by using a treb to knockback them off a cliff”, then that’s something entertaining
From https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/guild-wars-2-the-first-year/:
More than 3,500,000 games sold
23,470,844 Caravans Destroyed
Head over to the wiki at http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/World_vs_World_%28achievements%29:
Yakslapper – Kill 1,000,000 enemy supply caravans.
So, at best, 23 out of the 3.5 million could possibly have this achievement
“Foo! Quaggan cannot find page!
Quaggan has been looking and looking but quaggan cannot find your page, only 404.
Quaggan does not think your page exists.
Quaggan sad."
I LOVE IT!
unique is such a useless feature
but they’re spending all their time on temporary content and parties! that’s what everyone wants, right?

my first character, the first thing I did after finishing the personal story and getting to level 80 was map completion. probably took me a week or two, this was almost a year ago. I made a 2nd character about 5 months ago. got her to 80 pretty much the same way (level, story, level, story, 80), but since then I’ve ignored map completion entirely. I haven’t explored the map for the sake of exploring it at all, just going where I need to to do invasions or events or dungeons. If there is a wp or POI on the way, I’ll tag it. Currently, I’m sitting at about 70% map completion.
if you have a surplus of ascended rings, you also have a surplus of mist essence.
I agree that they should be salvageable, but they should give something like that Dark Matter that was originally going to be used on those twisted clockwork portals (I’m guessing that will be a T7 mat?), and have it be used for making ascended items. sort of like how salvaging rares gives ectos which are used to make rares/exotics.
there’s a few items and locations, that when copy/pasted on the forums, gets kitten’ed… I can’t remember which ones. They turn into things like Keskitten Hills
I’ve complained before. Now I just accept it as fact that they don’t see it as a problem.
as is, it encourages bots while discouraging players
I’ve suggested a few better implementations that have gone unnoticed: can not sell more than 1 item every 3 seconds, can not sell more than 500 items per day.
I’ve been complaining against living story since before the bazaar. If it actually was changing the world, that would be one thing. the karka event is a perfect example – there was a big event and new areas. The bazaar was close to this… it added an area, then it was gone, so that doesn’t count.
If the living story actually opened up new zones, or changed current zones (the aetherblade ship JP is a minor example of this), that would be good as it actually progresses the game. all of these updates are just scavenger hunts. boring.
all that said, my main gripe with temporary content is that future people can’t do it. you aren’t allowed to be casual because you’ll miss everything. anyone who joins the game now and asks where someone got that sword, the answer will always be “oh, it was an event a couple weeks/months ago, you can’t get it anymore, you had to be there.” it alienates and divides the player base into veterans and sore losers.
depends on the skill.
sometimes moving will cancel it
sometimes turning away
sometimes dodge (this is my go-to)
sometimes using any other skill will cancel it. healing seems to be the top-tier skill that will cancel any other skill, as not all skills will cancel other skills
currently, every single legendary costs more to buy (from sell listings) than to make.
some are only a couple dozen gold more, most are 200g+ more.
a lot of maximum buy orders are below the cost to make, but those are the ones that weren’t filled, so I wouldn’t expect to actually buy one there.
An interesting last couple days:
A couple months ago I made Kudzu, then decided to sell it (for a 500g profit)
I decided to make another legendary and sell it. sort of like a long-term goal to do in the background
My plan was to collect all the non-buyable stuff for a legendary (obsidian shards, skill points, badges of honor, etc.), then collect enough gold, then choose the legendary that would give the most profit, buy all the buyable stuff, make it, sell it.
I chose Kamohoali’i Kotaki because it would cost 938g and currently is selling for 1800g (1530 after tax) = 592g profit.
I put buy orders in for everything needed, then started doing Arah exp runs. 500 tokens needed, that’s only 2 days of all 4 paths each day.
After I had farmed 400 tokens, a friend said he got impatient with making his legendary, so he spent $ to buy gold and finally buy The Legend. He got everything together, then wanted to make it in a scenic place instead of the middle of a hustling market. He chose the secret wood area below The Grove. So we all went there, he linked all the ingredients in chat, put everything into his Mystic Forge Conduit, then equipped his Bifrost. We put down some fireworks and box o’ fun for the giant transformation (giant asura is taller than humans
)
I decided I might as well do something with all this gold I’ve accumulated instead of just accumulate more. I’d been dissatisfied with the Zephyr GS skin, so I decided to replace it.
Twilight or Sunrise… definitely not Eternity. Not so into dark/emo, and my mesmer has lighter armor (white/red), so I’ll go Sunrise!
I sold the Armored Scale and Powerful Blood I had in plans of making Shark Statue (difference between buy and sell price meant I lost very little in this change of heart). Luckily, the Gift of Metal I already made was common between Sunrise and Kamohoali’i
Buy orders for Charged Cores and Lodestones and Dawn
I already had 225 AC tokens, it was 3 hours until reset, so I needed to do 2 runs before 4pm and 3 after 4pm.
I finished all the paths, collecting the charged lodestones while waiting for parties. Dawn got delivered around the 3rd run.
I had everything, my friend asked me where I wanted to make it. We discussed options: under The Grove, the instanced JP in Mount Maelstrom, under Rata Sum, on top of the Avatar rocks in Caledon…. But I already had asked myself this question, and I KNEW where I wanted to make it.
I told him my plan, he laughed and just asked me if I was sure and what would happen if we couldn’t do it, I just said we’d have to wait and try again.
So a couple of us form a party and start killing mobs and completing events.
Gotta go quick, not going to make it.
With less than 2 minutes left, Scarlet Briar finally appears.
She is not even close to a WP, so we have to run from half way across Bloodtide Coast.
She’s in the cave! barely a dent in her HP, about 1:10 to go.
Standing next to Scarlet, I link all the ingredients in chat, then use my friend’s conduit to make Sunrise, link it, equip it, savagely beat Scarlet with it.
I kid you not, the timer was down to 0 seconds remaining when she gave her ‘death is not good enough for her’ speech. Event Successful!
That’s what I did this weekend, how was yours?
“how many black lion claim ticket scraps can drop from one BL chest” ?
how many scraps per chest?
no
it’s how many chests to get one scrap. 5 chests you’d be lucky to get 1 scrap. 10 scraps for a skin = you need somewhere around 100-200 chests.
do not buy keys in hopes of one of the things they give. If you buy them, it’s because you want /everything/ they give. they are not priced right for that lucky drop, they are priced for the average drop. meaning that if you buy 10,000 keys, the sum of everything you get could of been purchased with the gems it took those 10,000 keys (cost of boosters, merchant contracts, BLSK, etc.)
throw stuff in the mystic toilet if you like gambling.
if you want your legendary, just buy the precursor directly from the TP.
these are two different things.
If you need a particular precursor and are looking for the cheapest/best way to get it, the mystic toilet is not that way.
people that play slot machines for a living always end up homeless, while people that play them for fun end up with good stories and learning experiences.

“didnt not”
It’s fun reading group A complain about 1c undercutting and how it’s negligible and meaningless, while group B complain about undercutting by more than 1c and how it’s wasted potential profits.
In the case of someone raising the buy order by a lot, I usually assume it’s someone with lots of sell listings for that item wanting to raise the price so their sell listings are sold. If you’re looking to buy a Rare armor with 20s49c buy orders and 20s50c sell listings, you’re going to buy the sell listings.
other possibilities include: they think it’s worth more than it is and want a lot of them (20s buy order is going to be filled much quicker than 17s buy order, especially when the sell listings are around 20-21s)
It’s not on their announcement, but the infinite mining pick is currently for sale in the gem store.
one fun quote I heard was something to the effect of: “I want to use the portal device that runs on bowls of salsa!”
just hope that when you stack them, they both don’t turn into account bound
if only they were account bound like every single other booster in the game.
2 cores + 1 Mystic binding Agent + 1 Crystal + 1 Crystalline dust = 1 lodestone
I can confirm this works
When Mystic Binding Agent first came out, wasn’t the recipe 4 cores + 1 Mystic binding Agent + 1 Crystal + 1 Crystalline dust = 2 lodestone ??? I bought 40 binding agents because I thought it was a better deal than wine, but then it didn’t do 4 for 2. (I know it does 4 shards gives 2 cores)
also, the progress bar goes faster near the end. I’ve been in one where we had 25% to go with 4 min remaining and we killed her with 1:30 to spare. Definitely don’t leave when it gets low.
if it’s like the other glowing items, it’s a fairly small aoe. reflective surfaces increases the distance a bit, but you really can only see like 300 range around you.
Also, I don’t think Zommoros is stingy with the precursors. I think that if you throw 4 exotic greatswords in the forge, you get a random exotic greatsword out. there are just 43 exotic greatswords to choose from, and only 2 are precursors, so that’s a 1 in 21.5 chance (4.65%) of getting a precursor
if you start from rares, there is further only a 20% chance of upgrading to exotic, so 20% of that 4.65 is 0.9302% chance of upgrading 4 rare greatswords to a precursor = 1 in 107.5 rolls = 430 rare greatswords were thrown in the forge (on average). Some people may get it after 8 rares, some may get it after 800 rares, a few may get it after 8000, it still has the same average.
I get carried away with math sometimes
So when they first added the feature to salvage ectos for Piles of Crystalline Dust, a bunch of people did a bunch of salvages and found that Master Salvage Kits yielded on average 2 dusts per ecto.
Did this get changed?
I’ve been observing around 1.8 dusts per ecto and it’s bugging me.
some of my data points:
152 ecto = 252 dusts (1.658 dust/ecto)
250 ecto = 454 dusts (1.816 dust/ecto)
250 ecto = 480 dusts (1.92 dust/ecto)
250 ecto = 438 dusts (1.752 dust/ecto)
75 ecto = 131 dusts (1.747 dust/ecto)
total: 977 dust = 1,755 dusts (1.796 dust/ecto)

trial accounts can’t buy/sell on the TP? wtf?
there is no streak-breaking code. I’ve rolled 5 superior sigils in a row before (from majors).
to answer your question: you’re missing some info.
first, those people who show you the 3 precursors they’ve had thrown at them by Zommoros don’t tell you about the 2,000 other rolls that gave nothing, or the 1500g they paid to just buy them and make you feel bad, or the [&AgHddwAA] they copy/paste to display a item even if they don’t have it.
second, random is not even distribution. there are going to be clumps. If there aren’t, it’s not random. I may of had 5 successes in a row, but you better believe that the next 30 rolls after that gave nothing.
If someone tells you, for example, that it takes about 100 rolls to get a precursor, know that that is average. some people will get it in 2, and some will get it in 198 (note that the average between those two is 100).
RNG is not broken. what you expect out of it is. go ahead and hate it, but what you describe is a successfully implemented random number generation.
these used to give 10s per bag, but that part was taken out because Anet didn’t intend for the gauntlet to be a farm spot, so now they only give you some sprockets and a few common items.
throw 4 stacks of Glob of Ectoplasm into the MF to get 1 Glob of Dark Matter
I can’t think of any reason they should keep karma potions at all. when you would of got one, you should just get the karma instead. same with bags of coins.
for the short-term, see Rouven’s answer.

my Dragon Coffers investment likes this update so far. Keep up the good work!
Saduiz: the problem with culling wasn’t the quality of visuals, it was that you would be at a meta event and couldn’t attack the boss because it was culled out of existence. For areas where nothing was culled before there should be no difference between before no culling and after culling was removed (because the same number of things are displayed). the only difference is that now, when you would of been limited to 50 or so things on your screen you’re seeing the full 300. As I said, a sliding bar would of been preferred, or at least have it show all enemies before showing allies at all, but they’re taking it one step at a time and learning from people’s complaints.
122 words… 800 is too hard and you wouldn’t of read it anyways.
SSD should help here. WPing takes like 1/3 the time. hopefully she’s close to one.
maybe sometimes it’ll be like Chaos Crystal Cavern exit? drops you 10,000 feet above a lake. except sometimes you have to aim for a barrel of water to not splat
I don’t, thanks for the reading material. Especially after reading this, I want to do research into what all these settings actually do, as most of them when I change from low to high has very minimal effect. like, which ones are the most important.
GW2 is the most processor-intensive game I’ve seen.
It really would be nice to have a sliding bar for maximum number of characters you want to be on your screen at a time. I have a high-end computer that can do 30+fps in zerg battles, but I’d still like to only see the enemies and the 50 or so closest allies. just due to their weapon effects blocking me from seeing what is going on. or maybe a sliding bar for decreasing the presence of effects? yes please.
I think it was more of commanders tend to just gather the biggest zerg they can then swarm the whole map instead of strategizing and splitting up to flank the enemy zerg.
or it could be like you said, WvW stuff in PvE
Buy a new gfx card or tone down your settings! THIS IS AMAZING. love you anet!
Why should people have to shell out money or play with sub-optimal settings when they didn’t have to before?
It may be amazing to you, but not for everyone.
If you want amazing, buy a new computer. If you don’t, turn your settings down. You don’t get to drive a Tesla after buying a Honda. New games = require newer computers. No way would I ever expect my 466Mhz iBook (purchased sep 2000) to be able to play GW2, much less at highest settings.
does nothing affect karma potions now? some things they might of overlooked:
karmic infusion
guild +15%
personal account bonus from AP
This might make Orrian boxes no longer the most cost-effective way to spend karma…
before, it was something like 23k karma = 1g worth of stuff, but that was including using the karma potions you get from them with 95% bonus.
New estimate should be somewhere around 31k karma = 1g worth of stuff.
Still a bit better than buying exotic weapons and MF and sell (if you can even still do that?), which had about 40k karma = 1g.
gonna be funny when it ports you to edges of maps that are not normally able to get to, then you just keep going. would be fun to start in LA, swim accross the ocean, walk through a deserted orr, take a left, bazaar is still in full swing and no one is invited, etc.
I agree with navzar
buy at 86c = need to sell at 1s02c to break even. rounding and all that. (86 / 0.85 = 101.17 rounds to 102)
