Return of Owl, and the Lost spirits possibly?

Owl, no I don’t think so. The in-game lore makes it fairly clear that Owl was consumed and destroyed by Jormag.

The others though? Yes it’s definitely a possibility that they are still out there but just ‘lost’. However it would be extremely unlikely they would become a major spirit of the wild as that would logically result in changes and additions to the norn mechanics.

Really it would only add an elite cultural spell. I could see them doing it… if they ever made cultural magic relevant.

Just a thought. If the spirits are incarnations of magic and dragons eat magic and Asura say nothing is every destroyed just changed then there is a good chance that by killing Jormag the owl spirit could be released.

It should follow that with every dragon killed magic in the world will get stronger.

Reset MMR's and Institute a Pre-Season

Mysticjedi.6053

I like this idea. Remember though that Anet, built achievement tiers around the concept of grinding to a specific level. They wouldn’t invalidate their achievements. They want everyone to start at the same point with the theory being that going up a tier separates skill when it does not.

I would love a MMR reset.

Ruby = Amber

Was kind of expected given how mmr wasn’t reset despite the promises made by Anet. People with no/low mmr shot up the ruby fast, people with high mmr have to deal with lovely 50% w/l algorithm and actually fight hard matches to gain any pips which makes their progression quite slow.

Don’t be silly. This has nothing to do with MMR reset. Even if MMR was reset, people will still be bad and there will still be a large amount of people entering Ruby that kinda stumbled through the other ranks (because Ruby is the first rank where you can lose pips).

So reality is, the people who can leave Ruby and enter Diamond (without the aid of a team) are the real MVP.

There are no MVPs in this system it is completely based on RNG. Lesson for the next league: grind hard at the beginning and you’ll stay with the hard core pvp players.

I didn’t and took it easy. Now I’m with people who double cap points in Ruby. I’m fine if that is where I belong, but this league gives no sense of skill only who got lucky match-ups, or has friends to play with.

Class MMR and Division

While I agree. It is silly for me to ride to a division with one class and then switch to another. Anet will likely not change anything because they require you to play at least 3 classes in pvp to get the achievement set up for a legendary.

This forum is a joke. “Anet, i have lost a match and lost a pip, your matchmaking is broken!” What do you guys expect? Gaining pips for loosing matches so every pve monkey is legendary soon? Sure the matchmaking isnt perfect, but this one is completly legit. Of course you will progress very slowly, youre rank 35 and propably dont even know how this game mode works. Simply get better and stop whining…

This thread is a really bad example of the poor matchmaking. There is bad matchmaking going on and losing pips for someone who dc’d beyond the 2 minute window is pretty silly.

I get where you’re coming from some people do sound very entitled, but it isn’t always an issue of an individual getting good. If you’re teammates can’t win a 1v1 or hold a point, fight most of the game off point, or chase people around the map that isn’t your fault the loss that results isn’t a matter of you necessarily needing to get good. Unless people believe, like the system, that one person should be able to carry a team.

Top3 Changes for the Next PvP Season

This would completely invalidate the division structure

True. Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe this was the issue with similar seasonal PvP activities that ArenaNet has set up in the past.

The people top of the leaderboards were those that simply played more games, rather than those who were actually good at PvP.

I think we should lose pips, but there needs to be a more clear reason for WHY we lost a pip when we lost. I want to know what the system expects from us up front before the match begins.

No. The system can be abused too easily. Divisions are supposed to represent skill, but currently divisions are so muddied that some of the people are skilled in the higher divisions and others are a result of a gamed system.

One thing I liked about GW1 is I could queue by myself but if my team of randoms worked well together we could progress to another match until we hit a wall. Then we could leave or make the decision to team up some more by sending each other invites. I like that idea. After a game winners of one game faces winner of another gamer and so on and so forth.

I won’t get too down. I looked at your scores and they are pretty much all over 350. Many are in the 400s. This usually means someone, maybe you, messed up big time. This happens. Remember it is a game. Reflect on what you can do better since you can’t control others.

Also remember, the current system does have some flaws (understatement) and just play games to play. I had a 6 game losing streak yesterday only to win 3 games in a row and go up a tier and half in Sapphire. That doesn’t feel right either.

Look at dat amber player.

The exploiting is so real it’s hilarious. In a bad way.

Just to be clear, I’m not faulting Alkore, Argi & co. for doing what they do. This is not an accusation towards them. Without that amber guy, their queue time is probably around 60 minutes or so. They are just a bunch of guys who want to play the game and have found a convenient method of accomplishing shorter queue times. In my mind, Anet is the culprit here for releasing a potato system that is bad for everybody, both filthy casuals such as myself and ESL no-lifers.

I would agree with this as well. As long as they are using the lower tier to lower queue times. Overall, this is Anet’s fault. The system needs to be fixed. I love the idea of leagues, I advocated for leagues last year, but this system needs more work.

Truthfully, though I stopped caring a while ago. I still play, but I treat the experience like a beta experience. Something I am very disappointed at considering we had two test ladders last year that were supposed to be the beta experiences.

Yeah, don’t blame the players for cheating. Blame the game, not the player, right? They are victims, don’t report them so more people can play with them and feel sorry for them, the victims.

Too lower queue times, no I don’t mind it. If it is lower MMR that is a problem.

Most Common Mistakes Made by SoloQers

Mysticjedi.6053

Don’t queue over and over without taking some time to think about your matches. We all make mistakes, but the more you reflect on your last match the better chance you have not making the same mistake again.

Understand when you soloq your teammates will make mistakes. Help each other. I’ve met some really helpful people, I’ve tried to helpful too. There are others who want to make one liners about how much others suck, ignore them.

Which also means if you’re going to soloq have some tough skin and be willing to take a few hits from angry players.

So, who is winning?

in PvP

Posted by: Mysticjedi.6053

Mysticjedi.6053

thanks for the feedback, people.

Taking a break when things go bad is a good idea, only i don’t have much time to play, and taking a break means not playing at all. But i sometimes will, it’s better than starting to violently hit the keyboard when you cannot down a guy before a flash revive.

also, i notice my win ratio has fallen once i started playing mid, and i used to do a lot better when i moved around capping points and not minding the team too much. I know it sounds awful, but when your team doesn’t coordinate, sometimes you just have to accept it and try to win in some other way (in one of the last matches i won, i soloed the lord when we were losing by 200 points: i ended up with 2 guys trying to stop me and my team managed to cap the 3 points while i ended the lord).

Remember too there is also PvE. I’ve had a lot of fun in FOTM or just doing Guild events can be really rewarding too. There really is a lot to do in Guild Wars 2. If you want to do big meta-events Dulfy has a great timer.

So, who is winning?

in PvP

Posted by: Mysticjedi.6053

Mysticjedi.6053

Adding on to this, remember when to take a break. If you feel like you are on tilt (IE on a losing streak and not feeling very happy/amused/good), you should stop. Take shower, eat, read a book for a while, even play a different game. Don’t try and push “just one more win” in a bad mindset- you’re going to end up worse off than you were before.

Except us with busy lives u want to maximize the potential of time that you have, some cant or dont have the energy to take a break and come back, some dont like doing other stuff, just want to play. Often the game is the break from something, but then the game and system is broken. Sounds more like one needs to find a more permanent solution.

Taking a short break and doing something else (like watching an episode of your favourite tv series) and coming back to win is better than tilting and losing 5 games in a row. My personal habit is to stop after 2 consecutive losses. Hasnt failed me so far.

This is good advice. What Reaper said earlier is true too. I’m not a huge fan of how the leagues can be abused, but some people are coming in with inflated MMRs and that is normalizing.

Though in my case, I don’t see the point in going on with leagues. I’ll play unranked, but with a straight 50% win chance leagues is nothing but a grind fest to wait until I get enough favorable match-ups in a row. It’s rather demoralizing. Especially when I feel I’ve done everything I could do, including communicate, with my teammates to still have us lose by only a few points and then lose a pip.

To the OP the winners are people who have a stable group to team with. The problem isn’t teams, anyone can team up. It is having people who communicate and know each others builds. That is a different level than just randomly making a team because people say it is good and that is something that not everyone has the time to do.

Why Guild Wars 2 Leagues Failed

in PvP

Posted by: Mysticjedi.6053

Mysticjedi.6053

I love the idea of leagues and totally agree that soloq players are getting the short end of the stick. I think the biggest problem is the pip system itself and how pips are rewarded and taken away. There is supposed to be logic to it, but I feel we need to see that logic up front so we know what we’re getting into when we start a match.

I think the league system would of been fine had they from the start base everything off of division.

For instance the first week new players would be facing elite players till they get to the next division. Premade players who rush to emerald and sapphire would only seen each other until. other players got there.

Another big thing is diamond players teaming up with embers to face weaker opponents. This should of never happened as the league should be playing to the top league player. So if you have 1 diamond 3 sapphires and a ember that team should face all rubys or 3 rubys a sapphire and a diamond.

The losing of of pips/tiers and the suggested of losing tiers when people are posting pics of solo ques facing full abjured, full pz, full car crash, full ORNG is not a place we should be heading. Being that this league is only in place for 2 months the question becomes what kind of reward system do we want on the PiP system.

Obviously we are not gonna get another MMR based leader board and we should be rewarding players who play the game. Therefore if we are gonna have a “REAL” pro league it has to be fair for everyone from the start.

I agree resetting MMR would have been amazing, but Anet doesn’t seem want to do that.

I hoping some type of hotfix might implemented with the Wintersday update. I’m doubtful, but there is plenty of evidence that they have a framework, but it still needs tweaking. Even if they added the information that the last On Point said was already in the system about what scores people need to not lose a pip. That would at least curb my frustration and give me an idea of what the system is expecting of me.

I had an idea, it’s probably stupid, but instead of capture point giving points, they allow you to hold an area of the map. Any enemy killed in the area provides bonus points say 5+3. If the points don’t help an area, maybe they should just provides a bonus score to kills rather than a ticking score.

This, this is why I decided I’m taking a break. I would love to help beta league improvements and I would even talk with devs. I have over 2k games, but I’m sick of the poor matches. I’m also feeling more and more isolated because I enjoy soloing and it feels like the system is rewarding teams.

Yes, I know it is a team sport, but so is Track and Field. Individual performance should matter for something.

Things I would love to discuss:
- matchmaking
- pip system
- how soloqers can play (thinking GW1 had the right idea here)

I haven’t noticed a lot either. I do think it may begin to increase as people have trouble progressing up a tier because the 50/50 thing kicks in. With a 50% win/lose chance I’ll never get past the first tier of Emerald. If that is the point of Emerald to keep 50%ers out, cool. I can deal with that, but they need to make that clear.

Now to the crux of the issue – it’s not entirely clear why you’re winning or losing X amount of pips after a match, as the odds are not displayed to the player. We’re looking at making changes to the in-game UI to communicate this more clearly, but this won’t be in for season one.

Thanks for the update Gaile. Do you know if the threshold scores are only team based? Is it possible for a player to earn a pip from personal performance? Has there been any talk about this?

It’s just that sometimes individuals put in a great effort, but still fall short for various reasons, and could be punished by losing a pip for something that isn’t necessarily within their control.

Is there anyway that fixes could be made to this season. I’m only slightly okay that this season feels more and more like a test. It is completely unacceptable that the next season is another test of let’s try these new items and fixes. This season, in my opinion, needs to be the one where all ideas and tries put to the test so the first season of 2016 is not more, we’ll fix it next time, statements.

My team won by over 200 points. Why does this matter. I got 2 pips for beating a group that was clearly awful. The only reason I can figure this happened is because they were Emerald ranked.

So, thank you, kind of, to mmr throwers you apparently are good for something.

New pvp system "review"

in PvP

Posted by: Mysticjedi.6053

Mysticjedi.6053

I was under the illusion that the new pvp system was going actually measure skill and allow tiers to face off.

That isn’t the case at all. This is the same old grind system with a fancy UI. It rewards amount to time played rather than quality of play. Being in one tier or another is nothing but a status of how much you’ve played, because you can still be placed with lower tiers.

Going up and down the tiers is only a result of lucky matchmaking. You’re either put on an great team as a soloq or put with people that don’t know what they are doing. That is not okay. That is a waste of time.

Anet has created a system stacked against players and they expect players to beat their statistical odds in order to progress. That is not a good system.
