I have found that most toxic community are those players who are high enough to be almost top players. Those who are learning are supportive and I have occasionally been grouped with high end players and found them to be silent or very nice. The worst are those who are almost really good and frustrated that they aren’t and can’t figure out why so they blame matchmaking and others.
Legendaries were supposed to be cool skins only. So, no they shouldn’t have switchable sigils. They shouldn’t even be exclusive in that they can switch stats. I think ascended should have that ability too.
I’m a hybrid guard in NA. I would love to play on a team.
Will HoT let us salvage extra ascended gear?

I would rather be able to use Mystic Toliet to give my ascended gear a drop down function to change stats.
AngryJoe Interview - HoT Questions for Devs?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Questions:
- Release date, even a general time frame like Spring or Summer would be a great.
- System requirements (will be require greater requirements than GW2?)
- Will they be adding a save build feature?
- Will there be “raids”
- Will specializations add a trait line?
-Will specializations be allowed in PvP or limited to PvE and WvW?
A couple more things…
falselights, you might as well try the virtue bunker setup of 0-0-2-6-6 or at least compare it to yours for your group idea. You would need to tweak it a bit than you also have some new interesting options.
Mystic, I was playing around with the idea of doubling burning and I think your build is 75%. In order to get it to 2 seconds where I think it would be worth Balthazar and the block burn combo, you would need to probably do a 3-4-6-1-0 build. With the torch trait and than need to use smoldering sigils. Than you can only cover it with 1 sigil. It is still an interesting idea. The 1 could be moved into last trait line. I’m assuming your idea was to get a 2 second burn on hit and block.
Cool idea Irish. I’ll give it a try. The one thing I will say that is fun about this build is that I have seen thieves kill themselves chasing me and me hitting them 5 times. The burning in this build is real and 800 damage is dangerous and cleansing doesn’t help because it can gets applied so often.
No where near an expert, but here is my build:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fVAQNAR5dlsApaoNDxcI8DNR8QZVHUdA0AP61/wMkDA-TJRHwAV2fIwVAAZZAAPEAA
It is a more selfish build than Saiyan’s, but puts out a good amount of burn and has good sustain. It can put down fire and light fields to self-combo with or help a team. It really uses JI to combo with gs abilities or mace 2 skill for an early burst and uses burn, poison, and bleed to make it hard to recover. I’ve enjoyed using the build and have had success with it.
Just thought I would share.
??tfffwtf nob?j?!
I wouldn’t say I’m a noob. I have well over 2000 games in (doesn’t make me good, but I’ve been around enough to have an idea of how to play). I’m just tired of poor match making.
I agree we should help the up and coming pvp players, but if I want to do that I feel like the place is unranked or hot-join. Ranked play should be for people with experience.
It is good to know I’m not alone. Sad that others feel the same though too.
Maybe I just need a break from pvp, but I’m really getting aggravated with playing. I would never claim to be a stellar player, but some of my match ups lately have been less than fun with either a blow outs or players not seeming to know what to do, and this is ranked play. I occasionally have a fun and close match, but that occasional match isn’t worth sitting through 3 or 4 really bad ones.
Maybe it’s because I soloq or maybe I’m really being paired with people of my level and I just have to come to terms with the idea that I suck. I can deal with the latter because that just means practice.
Anyone else feeling this way? I really like to pvp, but the amount of frustration the match ups bring just isn’t worth it.

Rule change for solo players is a real bummer. Understandable, but a bummer. This was the only tournament I ever considered doing too.
I just wish I knew my MMR and my teammates. I want to know if I’m getting the short end or I am the short end of the stick in matches. It’s frustrating to wait a while to play and then get destroyed.
Not sure if this would fix the problem, but I really think tiers would help because then the pool of people would theoretically be equal. If there aren’t enough people in your tier to play a ranked match then I would at least like a message asking if I wanted to move up or down tier in order to play.
Crusader.
Less reliance on Boons, less support, less carry mode. Virtues changed to a dynamic resource.
I agree that the specialization will probably be all less boon, support, and carry, but I’m guessing virtues will stay the same.
I’ve been thinking about the trend in gear in the game lately and the fact that guardians have access to the least amount of conditions. My bet is that it will have something more to do with condition. Giving them an axe would make sense and fit this since most axe attacks in the game do a condition (might be wrong).
My guess is HoT will finish off Mordemoth, and living story will focus on rebuilding Tyrian forces, about a year later it will focus on the aftermath of the Mordemoth’s death, and us going after another dragon which will build to another expansion in another 18- 24 months. Rinse and repeat.
There is still plenty to do in Orr too, like its cleansing. Living story could focus there.
Questions:
-Will we get additional character slots when we purchase HoT?
-Can we have a current level 80 character switch professions to a Revenant? (This would be awesome!)
- Will there be new pets for Rangers?
- When will the first beta be?
(Can I be in the beta by just calling dibs? Just in case, dibs! If not, when can I give you my money?)
So Revenants don’t really exist until after Rytlok comes back from the mists right?
So my request/hope is for current level 80s to be able to profession switch to Revenants. I don’t mind making a new character from scratch, but I also think this would be really cool horizontal progression because then you have one character “changing with the times.”
Is there any possibility of this being included Devs? Please!
:P
Thanks
Is it possible to install GW2 on an Xbox one?
No matter what good intentions people may have for gear check it will only devolve into a way to exclude people because others don’t play the way someone wants them to.
Great suggestions.
I want to add that in matchmaking let soloq players have a choice to carry their team into the next match if they win.
This would be nice.
Yes. I play GW1 while in pvp queue since the Mists is kind of boring.
3 Bunker Guards in team again. I feel like most of my loses lately are just due to class stacking. And we can’t even change, because we lose ladder points on change.
GG Anet.
I’ve been seeing a lot of class stacking too. Played a team yesterday that was 3 rangers and 2 thieves.
Team balance matters.
Interesting observation. Today I noticed people in the matchmaking forum talking about the bad match ups occurring with between or within teams. I noticed this too, and also noticed a lot more raging today.
Another fun observation: I usually tell all my teammates and sometimes the map that I truly suck at the game (some days I really really do) and to whisper me their rage or advice. People usually make some comments about not queuing ranked and then I hear nothing from them again and we have a nice game.
I have seen a lot of posts about how to improve the leaderboard, but they tend to be scattered across a lot of different threads or thrown into threads complaining about the leaderboard. The purpose here is to write down your ideas for improvements after this season so Devs can find them easily. This is about giving ideas, not flaming the current system.
One idea I have is that during a season you don’t get on the boards until you’ve played a minimum number of games. This would take into account the reset that happens during a season so people don’t have inflated scores because they got down paired early.
What ideas do others have?
I do practice when I am trying for the class specific daily that I don’t know very well (which, for the record, I don’t like). Hotjoin is just too unpredictable. I like the order of unranked and ranked play.
Let my computer sit for an hour and tried again. It is installing now. Definitely wasn’t my AT&T.
This is happening to me right now. Kind of frustrating.
Tried what was suggested “-log” and “-diag” and it is saying it is an invalid command. Never had this problem before.
(edited by Mysticjedi.6053)
I’m not a huge fan of the class specific daily, but I’ll admit I have tried to some new classes. I have a new respect for thieves because of it. With that said, I would really like it removed.
nowadays i find better sportsmanship in ranked arena though sometimes i still meet some kittens that trash talk from the start of the match until the end. but that is quite rare.
I’ve noticed the same. There is a very loud person who spends more time complaining than playing, but they are rare after this update. Usually I got one every 1-3 games. I just experienced my first one today after 50 games.
Carrion and Balthazar I get 856 burning. I go in with burning JI and then switch weapons to up bleed and poison up so that burning stays on unless someone can remove three condi.
I’m loving my condi guard. Currently ranked in the 200s.
^
I like the idea of making a personal profile. It could include that class you like play, your play style, and even include players you would prefer to be grouped with.
This could be really helpful for soloq players who just want to log in and play and worry about searching for others or committing to a team.
For the most part, I’m seeing decent matches. Early morning EST are a bit rough, but by late afternoon and evening I have had some really great games. A few blow outs and been blown out a few times but such is life.
To add to the pre-made discussion it isn’t just that they communicate and pick their team comps or can plan for their team comps it is that they know each others strengths and weaknesses and so know when to support each other.
I like to soloq because it is less hassle. I never know if I’m going to be on for 1 game or 10 games so I just log in by myself because I don’t want to ditch a team. I just wish there was a way to communicate better as a soloq player.
For the record, I love this idea:
“Another idea is letting you keep your pub team through the next queue if you won.”
I just want to know how a match affected me. Did I get a point or two or did I perform well under.
One of the things that bothers me right now, is I spent a game defending my home point from constant attack, but didn’t get any defense points like I would capping or decapping. Under the leaderboard system, my ranking will tank because I’m not capturing points, but I was defending our only point which kept my team in the game, even if we lost. But because I didn’t score enough points I lost points (I think).
With all of that said. I would love if we did leagues in tiers so I’m more likely to be matched with people around my skill level. It’s no fun to destroy people or to be destroyed. I want people I can go 50/50 with and learn from the fight.
Right now I’m strictly solo and currently rank 40 in leaderboards, the start was rough but I think it’s fine. Granted the leaderboards just started and getting that isn’t exactly difficult.
I agree with Chase. Give the boards some time to even out a little. With that said, I think it will be harder for soloq players to maintain a high rank or get to a high rank unless people start working together.
We are at a slight disadvantage where you could have a team comp. that is expected to win but because no one is willing to communicate they will lose and lose points on the board.
New L2P for soloq players: either team up or be willing to communicate with others you don’t know about what is happening in the game.
But the community must like seeing less information so it got removed.
We removed seeing other player’s rank to prevent harassment and the shaming of new players.
We don’t show MMR for the same reason.
I feel like harassment and shaming happen already. At least with the information present, in some cases, the people doing the harassing and shaming can be shown to be idiots.
With the new matchmaking system, after a while I really shouldn’t be going against newbies. Because I’m an optimist I believe that if people knew a player was new or just starting out they might be more willing to offer tips and advice. Right now, some assume that if you’re doing ranked queue you know what you’re doing and that simply isn’t true. I want the pvp community to grow. Showing us as much information as possible could help us know who needs help, who is having a bad day (it happens), and who is just a jerk (yes, I can be an optimist and a realistic at the same time).
(edited by Mysticjedi.6053)
Thanks Laserbolt. You actually nailed one of my problems right away. I try to “save” that person in the 1v3 or continue the 1v3, but I end up just giving other team 10 points instead of 5 (5 from my dead teammate and 5 from my vain attempt to save someone).
Okay, quick follow up. If I take far and that will always draw one or two people isn’t that a good thing? I give my team a 4v3 situation, ideally, where they can take up to 15 points from kills while the other team will get only 5 from my eventual death?
Okay, so this is learn to play issue and I get that, but I was wondering if anyone has any pointers that can help me to learn to rotate capture points better.
I pretty much exclusively soloq and I try to go to the capture points that either will be a quick decap or where I feel I can draw a 1v2.
What should I be looking for to decide what capture point to go to? I want to be as effective as possible knowing that as a soloq player being matched with other soloq players communication is traditionally very poor, so I need to know what I’m doing so I don’t screw everyone else over. I feel like I do that often in my matches which is why I’m asking for any tips.
I’m always willing to try new things. I’ll try Flame Legion. I really like the blind that F1 gives so I might keep that, but put 1 in virtues.
This is the build I run with a few differences. I equip Shimmering Defense which isn’t reliable, but can make some big surprises. It also allows my F1 to blind giving me another defensive option. I also run Rune of Balth to give more burn duration and dmg which, again not reliable but fun, makes Shimmering Defense hit for 10K. More importantly Defender’s Flame with Balth does 856 dmg per tick.
You guys keep mentioning how it wont be fun for casuals…well tell em to gut gud
That is part of the problem, from what I am reading, people really can’t get better under this system. Instead there is a false sense of skill using the ladder just because you play more than others.
I can play all day long against others who play all day long and the ladder will reflect that dedication. But if everyone that is playing isn’t really any good we aren’t improving we’re just grinding points.
I would love a system where I not only know where I stand compared to others, but I am matched with others that will push me to be better. I don’t think the ladder system reflects that. I do think that is the goal of the matchmaking system, I’m just not sure how well it is working all the time if it is using ladder points to help make matches.
Which is why we have a sound alert now
which isnt exactly that much of an alert. could easily be drowned out by TV, music, etc.
honestly, if their best defense for why this system is better is there’s an alert and now you cant do anything else but wait while in queue, its a cruddy one.i’d gladly wait 5minutes for a match to start if im doing something.
doing nothing for 2 minutes for a pop gets really old after it happens over and over and over again. it encourages me to do something else not game related or leave the mists to do something else.
I completely agree. HotM is the most boring place ever! I liked being able to run around Silverwaste during queue time. If the queue was long I really didn’t mind. Now if the queue is over a 2 minutes I don’t even bother, and leave the queue, and I’ve even logged out of the game. I like farming while queuing.
Reading through the posts. I really wouldn’t mind a bracket system. It would give people a better sense of where they are in relation to others in the game. It would also prevent people from being paired way up and being steamrolled or way down and getting kitteny. The latter is what I would like to avoid.
I’m a pretty middle of the road player (some may say I suck, but I I feel I’m middle of the road) and I prefer playing with other players of my caliber. I really don’t like playing with lowbies who feel like they are awesome or indigent higher ups who just verbally abuse people and offer no tips but uninstall. Maybe my experiences have jaded me, but brackets sounds like a better idea than leaderboards.
I understand, kind of, the logic of redirecting everyone to Heart of the Mists to wait for matches, but could you maybe create more to do there? Some suggestions:
- Mystic Forge
- Crafting Stations
- Some of form of challenges to do while waiting
If not, I wouldn’t mind at all if I could farm Silverwastes while I waited.
Having used both forms of the guard, I will say the hybrid guard is far more rewarding than meta medi guard (say that 3 times fast). If you time your blinds and burns correctly it shreds through most meta builds. That said, it does have a few hard builds it’ll come across. Thieves are no longer whack-a-mole as they generally are w standard meta medi, as they can cleanse before you do a large bulk of the damage and are not as squishy ( seemingly of course ). Engi is still a pain if they are camping a siege point. Warriors still have a LOT of HP, so it’s mostly winable ( The blinds go a long way ) but it will be a long fight.
I have found a camping Engi and bunker eles the only real struggle against this build. Otherwise, all other builds are consistently beatable as long as you time your blinds and blocks correctly. Granted none of the fights will be short. The trick is knowing when to do what. However, I might be so low in pvp that people just suck.
Saiyan IF I find some decent players I will help you with videos if you want. Though my build is a little different than yours.
Here is what I run. It probably will be considered not the best, but I have fun with it.
6 (II, VIII, XIII)/2 (III)/6 (I, II, XII)/0/0
Rune of Balthazar/Carrion Amulet
GS (Sigil of Doom/Sigil Bloodlust)
Mace (Sigil of Ice)
Focus (Sigil of Hydromancy)
Skills
Shelter
Smite Condition
Purging Flames
Judge’s Intervention
Renewed Focus
Why bloodlust of all choices on a condition build? I’d think you’d be better off with geomancy or literally anything else but power that’s removed every time you die.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I do like the condition build a lot. I have fought against dps mediation guards with this build, I can’t say I win consistently, but I can’t say I lose consistently either.
I do want to point out that Mace is really great for building some sustain against burst builds. It gives a short regen, and an extra block that does either 800 burn damage or explodes for damage.
It was asked what role a condi guard plays. In the absence of a bunker it can hold home. If a bunker exists I feel the build works well at harassing far or any other point that you can get a 1v1 match. Ideally, you’re 1v1 will draw another player or two giving your team the opportunity to easily cap some additional points or take out the other 3 players.
Just my opinion, and it could be a terrible one.
(edited by Mysticjedi.6053)
A condi guard works better as a support either defending home where you can get consistent 1v1 or taking far where you can either get a 1v1 or draw a 1v2 to give your team an advantage. No a condi doesn’t do well supporting group battles, except for laying down fields, but to my knowledge med guards are rather selfish too, so I don’t see this as a major problem.
