Dhuum in GW2

Narcemus.1348

So much wrong here. Abaddon wasn’t stronger than all the other gods, which is obvious because the other gods threw him down. It was said that Abaddon was stronger than any 2 gods put together, but not all 5 combined. Furthermore nothing says that Dhuum cannot be killed, merely that Grenth couldn’t kill him. Whether this meant that Grenth lacked the strength to kill him or that Grenth morally could not choose to kill him is left to speculation.

People seem to think that an expansion liberating Elona from Palawa Joko would be weak compared to the main game because of the size differentiation but I whole heartedly disagree. A expansion lined up around the liberation of Elona would be a definite throw-back to the old games with a story focused around the threat of an undead army rather than an elder dragon. There’s room for politics, intrigue, and still some massive champion battles as well as just massive full scale battles. You think Palawa Joko hasn’t been testing the limits of his necromancy over the past few years, or that he hasn’t created monsters that could fight against the flying champions of Kralkatorrik and Zhaitan? I definitely think it’s a long ways off, but at the same time it is definitely a lot closer than a Cantha expansion is.

Okay, so apparently the continent of Elona is being ruled by an undead king. I know this is a bit off-topic, but I feel that someone in-game should have brought this up to me at some point. =P This is the first I’ve heard of him, so this is all news to me!

Out of curiosity, is he ever brought up in GW2? Does he have any presence at all? That may hint at the likelihood of him playing a prominent role in the future.

I don’t think there’s ever any reason for the game itself to bring Palawa Joko up. The background lore has it written in. There are books and such that have that information, the same with individuals that may talk about it, but it is not really pertinent to the story at hand

There are over 700 points of interest and I believe 300 waypoints. I would spend a day or two reading every single one of them if ArenaNet added text to them. The Nightmare Court feel that the Ventari Tablet has shifted the core of what Sylvari are away. They feel like their kind are corrupted by it’s words, so they plan to free Sylvari from this by changing the dream into nightmare. Pretty much, the dream and nightmare have co-existed for some time. There has always been a darker side to the dream, as Caithe fought a dragon in hers, and it has always been assumed that the shadow settling over the dream is meant to represent the shadow of the dragons over Tyria. The Nightmare court feel differently, that the nightmare is their true form. They seek to recruit newly born sylvari into their cause by introducing memories of torture and pain into the dream. Since all memories flow back into the dream they plan to use this to slowly transform the dream into a full nightmare. Konig can feel free to come in and correct/fill in gaps for what I have said.

Except we know that a god and a dragon are on par. Should a single dragon have split itself up into 6 deities, then a single god should be weak compared to a single dragon. That said, dragon magic and the divine magic act very differently, especially in the sense that dragon magic just appears to end with the death of the dragon, as opposed to breaking out and threatening to rip up the fabric of the universe on death.

I would honestly love it if all zones that had risen involved in them could change eventually after Zhaitan’s death, but then you get into issues with splitting up the community even further by technically adding so many more zones. New players and old won’t see each other often and it becomes kinda messy. Plus currently all zones are stuck in time, but if certain ones changed while others stayed the same, the game might start getting confusing. I don’t know how they plan on doing things, but I’ll trust they do it well

I whole heartedly agree that the Seers may not have been a fully noble race either. Except for recent circumstances there aren’t many blacks and whites in the Guild Wars universe. I can personally seeing the Bloodstone being part of the Seers being selfish themselves. We know that the mursaat were definitely the magical power behind the original alliance. I can see this being a small problem growing out of control. First the mursaat study how to leave Tyria through their magic and the Seers learn of this. Because of the mursaat actions, the Seers study the creation of the Bloodstone as retribution for attempting to leave. The mursaat feel this threat against them and rise up in battle. The Seers create infusion to protect against spectral agony, but not before it’s too late. The Mursaat leave the world, and the few remaining Seers activate the Bloodstone sucking magic out of Tyria. Mursaat become trapped in the mists until a certain Lord Ordan opens a portal that they can travel through back to Tyria. That last part is mostly theorizing on the possibility of a Mursaat civilization within the mists.

Lastly for their dress code, I actually see them very much akin to the Altmer of the Elder Scrolls Universe. They have an overarching philosophy of perfection. They likely all dress the same because they see their garb as the perfect aesthetic for their race. What we know of them is that they have a superiority complex and won’t stop at anything to show just how much better they are. Why else were gold and flashy things like they if not to depict themselves as Masters over other races. Alternatively, we only ever fought Mursaat. We don’t know if this was the uniform of those Mursaat trained for battle or if this is in actuality their every day dress. The only ‘cities’ if you want to call them that, were military installations on the Ring of Fire. These weren’t homes, they were fortresses built to defend the Ring of Fire from anybody who tried to get to the bloodstone and fulfill the Flame Seeker Prophecies. So I don’t think it would be unheard of to suggest that these Mursaat were all part of some kind of Military (sort of like Generals over armies of Jade Constructs and the like).

I agree fully with the last sentiment. All of the Mursaat that we saw were in the invasion force, so it makes sense that they would have very similar military uniforms to each other. Especially since they were all scholar class professions.

They’ve kept the events for volunteering up this long. I would assume (but this isn’t law) that they will still be available until the Flame and Frost storyline finishes. The reason I say this is because in GW2 so far they usually keep the storyline title/achievement related stuff around as long as the event is around. Stuff from Early Halloween and Wintersday stuck around for the entirety of the event, and so far so has Flame and Frost. As I said though, this is a guess and nothing more. So if you have a chance I’d just grab it now while you still can.

Well, Jormag woke up waaay north of the Tyrian map and started making his way southwards, so it could be imagined that the dragons are going for the bloodstones. I mean we know that Primordus has some activity in the steamspur mountains, where a bloodstone is. We know Zhaitan had his armada going to the Ring of Fire islands, which could be pointing to him going for the keystone. These stones are massive amounts of magic all in a nice little capsule, so the Elder Dragons who eat magic would definitely be interested in them. By the way, we do not know that there are only 6 dragons. We just know that the races that lived in Tyria before only knew about 6 dragons, in such a massive world I would easily believe there could be a dozen, though by the end of the game I would see battles against these later dragons being more like the dragon champion battles we’re fighting in game right now.

Caithe is put off by him? I don’t remember this at all. In fact, as a Sylvari I remember some warm conversations between the two of them. They see each other as almost siblings because of their shared burden of Orr (the corruption or the dragon).

Also the dr agons have corrupted and destroyed homes and civilizations (I’ll give you that), but they haven’t destroyed “gods”. I assume you are talking about the spirits of the wild, specifically Owl, but no one ever claims that the spirits of the wild are gods or god-like beings. The norn see them as spirits to be valued, the humans believe them to be a step below their gods, and the norn look at the human gods and kind of step the gods down to the level of the spirits.

It would definitely have made the transition into the Claw Island/Pact storyline much easier though. I’d personally say after the Racial Sympathy. This gives you a whole 10 lvl storyline with your mentor and Trahearne. It somehow shifts the focus towards Orr a little bit more, and it ends heading off to Claw Island and dealing with the loss of your mentor. Throughout the story you can see how Trahearne is/gets the trust of your specific order. This plus a bit of re-writing during and after the Claw Island storyline could give Trahearne the extra confidence needed to show his development as a leader. As much as I enjoyed Tonn, I would definitely say that the “worst fear” storyline could easily be scrapped in order to give Trahearne some MUCH needed character development.

Honestly, how friendly do you think the charr will be towards Ebonhawke when the Flame Legion, Ascalonian Ghosts, and the Dragonbrand are gone? All three of these threats are appearing to slowly be defeated. The Flame Legion have lost their leaders, and are only able to hold on because of the alliance with the dredge. The Ascalonian Ghosts may be disappearing with the discovery of Magdaer. And the Dragonbrand will eventually disappear with the death of Kralkatorrik. Leaving the Iron Legion with only 2 possible enemies, the ogres, and Ebonhawke. I wouldn’t like to see what it looks like when the Iron Legion have their sights on only 2 enemies rather than 5.

How Does Magic Work?

Narcemus.1348

Magic, for the most part, comes from the 4 bloodstones. I would give the whole story but it’s long, so here’s the summation. Abaddon gave full reign of magic to everyone. Everyone went to war with each other and there was bloodshed. Doric pleaded to the gods to remove it. The gods sealed magic back within the original bloodstone and shattered it into 5 bloodstones. 4 of the bloodstones are the schools of magic (Preservation, Destruction, Aggression, and Denial) and the 5th is the keystone that would be required to put them back together (according to legend). The gods threw these stones into a volcano called Abaddon’s Mouth and left the world. Years later the volcano erupted shooting the bloodstones all over. 1 landed in what is now the Maguuma Wastes, another somewhere deep beneath what are now the Steamspur Mountains, and a third dropped back into the volcano, the other two are a mystery. That is about it. Magic comes from the bloodstones (except in certain cases, like dragons or ritualists), certain races seem to be (but for gameplay they are all equals), and magic is believed to start as a natural talent and grow from there.

A few thoughts. The Lich Lord was created from Vizier Khilbron by the Cataclysm. We don’t know how, but we know that at that point in time he changed from being a mere mortal to a lich. As well, Vizier Khilbron seems to have the power to control the undead. Our player characters only saw him doing this when he held the Scepter of Orr, but in some of the cut scenes, his Lich form seemed to be able to control them without the scepter. Because of this, I would say, personally, that the undead of Orr are the creations of the Lich Lord. Now you may ask, “What if the Lich Lord was a dragon champion?” Well to that I would say, Vizier Khilbron had too much personality, and he was able to think freely. He did not have the normal brainwashed stance other champions are shown to have. Furthermore, we see his soul in Lich form in the gates of madness helping Abaddon. This isn’t sealing proof, but it rings true to me that he was not a minion of Zhaitan.

More like:

Priory is too interested in knowing things rather than doing things, the Vigil is too interested in acting first and finding things out later, and the Order of Whispers are sneaky sneaks who we don’t know if we can trust to have peoples’ best interests at heart.

(All of which is true, to an extent. Especially about the Order – they play for the greater and long-term good.)

No, there are quite a few instances of the personal story where the representatives display outright disgust at the other orders because “We have the right mindset. They have the wrong one!”

All of this could have been ironed out if the Personal Story had more space to it and more dialogue to develop things.

I fully agree, but to show him gaining the trust of all 3 orders would honestly take at least 2 full storylines added to the game. What may have been a smart thought would have been showing him in one of the order storylines. This way characters can get used to him before they lose their mentor, and you can see how he gained the respect of at least one of the orders, and from there the other two can be applied.
