Will the Southsun Shore reveal a new dragon??

in Lore

Narcemus.1348

I am pretty sure there is one major reason that the grawl aren’t allowed in Southsun Cove and that is money.

A) The grawl are not a rich race. The consortium have no money to make by marketing Southsun as a grawl vacation spot.

B) It would hurt the marketing to the other races if grawl were allowed to go there. Most other races see grawl as primitive, dirty, and hostile which are 3 things you do not want at a vacation hot spot.

The Legendary Weapons, to me, are a lot like the “Unique” weapons that would drop in GW1. You work hard grinding to get these weapons and when you get them they are specific stats, specific skin, and specific coloration. I think the smarter thing for them to do would be to create more legendaries, which I think is already on their docket.

What did Kormir do as a god?

Narcemus.1348

There was no Jotun society in GW1, they were just a bunch of brutes running around. We didn’t learn about their past until GW2. Obsidian seems to refuse to integrate GW1 and GW2 lore together because he prefers the prior game, so he decides to make it a “lore” point that the games history somehow correlates with the history of the game writers. A.K.A. the gods didn’t know about the dragons because the dragons didn’t exist until we got new writers.

why does everyone hate trahearne?

in Lore

Posted by: Narcemus.1348

Narcemus.1348

Yeah, Darkorical… Trahearne made no strategic decisions in the Battle of Claw Island. Much of what we did was going around doing Talon’s orders until he died. He was only there to warn them of the risen attack, but this was long before he even thought of being a leader of anything. He just knew an attack was coming and rushed to warn them. The whole thing was botched because they had an arrogant leader, but the leader was Talon not Trahearne. I also specifically remember him saying quite a few nice things about the lost mentor. As for the Mirror, I do not know anything, I did the White Stag storyline.

All that we know that the gods DIDN’T know so far is that they DIDN’T know that Zhaitan was under Orr. From what we can tell even the Forgotten may not have known that because that was an area used by the Forgotten, at the very least in order to free Glint. When Glint hid the races I would guess that they stayed hidden until a few years after they were certain that the ED’s were asleep, just to be safe. Heck it may have taken a generation or two before they started venturing back out into the world, which means the dragons could have been well good and hidden away in their sleep before the world began to creep with life again, making their whereabouts an unknown. But I am pretty sure that the gods did, at some point in time, learn about the Elder Dragons. I mean they had the Forgotten and they even had dwarven followers. It wouldn’t make sense that the races kept that kind of information from the gods.

It makes sense to me that the Molten Dredge are the leaders of the “evil dredge” trying to keep a hold on their power. The same could be said about the Flame Legion. I do not remember ever hearing that “Gaheron is alive” from any Flame Legion members either. I only remember mentionings of him which could be taken either way since they do not want the Living Story to interfere too much with the chronology that the players are seeing unfold.

It seems more likely to me that the Mad King’s return had something to do with the ripples of the seal breakings, like Kenage said. My honest opinion is he may have been re-sealed by some adventurers, and this Halloween was the first time that he became free again. We sadly do not have any information on that front, but I highly doubt it has to do with Dhuum.

8 Dungeons, Fractals, 3 Limited Time Dungeons < 25 Explorable Zones, Full Personal Story.

We have hundreds of hours of soloable content (first time runs of each zone can take many hours depending on region) and the entire personal story is soloable as well (minus Zhaitan). So far there’s very little required group content to get the full story. I highly recommend just making friends and then you don’t have to pug with random people. Otherwise, if it bothers you that much either suck it up or find another game that is entirely soloable. There are many RPG’s without the MMO.

EDIT: I do not think it would be fair for ArenaNet to completely stop the creation of dungeons because of a few anti-social people (note: I am extremely anti-social in RL). Each new piece of content should continue to add content to the game for the whole diverse group of people that love playing this game, which includes people who love doing dungeons but want to add some variety to their runs. We need new dungeons, new crafting recipes, new jumping puzzles, new dynamic events and all that stuff to keep players of all types coming back to the game.

Later at the end the humans released more titans (which in later quests we “cleaned up”). Eventually we went into the Realm of Torment and destroyed the being that was creating Titans and emptied the foundry of it’s inhabitants

What I was stating, Thalador, that just as the east and west are matched up, so is the north and the south. This means that the strange thing that this texture would become would have one of the maps that we have pointing north, pointing another direction. I really hope that they fix this in the future. It is obviously not a major priority though.

I’ve been thinking a lot about this texture we have recently, and I have come to the conclusion that there is no way that this can be correct… I mean if you took that and rolled north and south to make a cylinder at least one of the continents would be the north pole, south pole, or would be upside down on the opposite side of the world, which means the north compass we have on every map is either incorrect, or we have incorrect information on the rest of the world.

I understand that the underworld is within the mists, and that he ruled from the tower that was thrown down to create the Chaos Planes. There is no denying that. In my mind, though, I like the idea of an “angel of death” tied specifically to the world forced to watch again and again as the dragons purged the world of life. I feel like it gives him more depth, making it understandable how he became so jaded against the effect of death on the living. I understand that this is entirely a personal view and we do not know enough information about this instance to make either way wrong. So until then, I choose to think him different from the others.

Yes Mauricio, but Tequatl uses the exact same skin as all of the other Champions of Zhaitan. Thus if Tequatl is a DSD champion it would make sense that they all would be. BTW there are/were dragons around that, as far as we know, aren’t related to Elder Dragons. Saltspray dragons in Cantha and the undead dragons we fight in Kryta (which came with the undead from Orr). The saltsprays do not act like dragon champions when we look at the ones that weren’t corrupted by the jade wind. As for the undead dragons, we have no clue. All we know is there were some dragon-like beings that were killed in the cataclysm and resurrected in undead forms. When it comes to the Elder Dragons I am in the camp that says that they are not living beings, but rather large amounts of magic trapped within a shell. I do personally hope that the Priory is able to find Zhaitan’s body and study it so we can learn more about what actually makes up an Elder Dragon

May the dragon champions be corrupted?

in Lore

Posted by: Narcemus.1348

Narcemus.1348

It’s visible in the Crucible of Eternity explorable dungeon that multiple dragon corruptions can exist on the same creature. The question is, though, can a champion be corrupted by multiple dragons, and that is something that is an unknown. For your specific example, I find it highly unlikely that Tequatl is a DSD champion that was corrupted by Zhaitan because of the fact that Zhaitan has literally hundreds of them flying in the skies of Arah. You can see them all around you during the dungeon fight and even just looking up in the sky as you explore the peninsula of Orr. But to the question of champions being corrupted by multiple dragons, it does not seem possible to me for one very simple reason. The corruptions may exist side by side with no problem, but the effects on the mind of the creature are what holds me back. No matter how much personality dragon champions have they are always extremely devoted to their master. Because of this, a champion that has been corrupted by multiple dragons would have their mind literally torn apart with devotion to two beings which are most likely not allies of each other. I personally believe there are three options here. Either the champion’s mind would be in eternal conflict as to where it’s allegiance lies, the champion’s mind would war with itself until it was rendered completely useless (vegetative), or eventually one allegiance would somehow rise above the other (although in this last one I find it hard to believe some damage wouldn’t be done to the psyche of the champion).

I’ve personally theorized that Dhuum was always tied to Tyria. I want to note that there has been little information tying Dhuum to the other gods. No information about how he came to Tyria or anything. If this is the case then the Underworld (which was Dhuum’s Realm) would have already been tied to Tyria and it was then taken by Grenth when he overthrew Dhuum.

Kick it up a notch (a rant)

Narcemus.1348

I somewhat agree, but at the same time I think what I have heard Konig respond with makes sense. Do not compare GW2 to GW1 + factions + nightfall + EotN, just compare GW2 to GW1 Prophecies. Why you ask? Well simple, these are two completely different games and they are both revealing their history in a slow progressive fashion. So comparing a single version of a game to another game and it’s 3 expansions is not fair. GW1 has had much more time to expand it’s universe, much more than GW2 has been able to.

I do agree that a little bit of the story type of GW1 has been lost due to the focus of the world changing from political figures and warring factions to massive world ending forces. I do think that some of this will have a chance to return to the game in the future. We are already seeing the start of this through the Living Story and some mysterious figure combining forces in order to take out some of the playable races. Areas like Palawa Joko and the fort in Brisban Wildlands also have the opportunity to open this up as well through their story.

Also as for your little snippet on Cantha. No one at ArenaNet, from what I have read, is against Cantha. The only source of conflict for making Cantha part of the playable content (again from what I have read) is NCSoft. Either way, storywise it does not make sense for Cantha to make an appearance in the world until after Tyrians have had a chance to clean up their continent (still 3 Elder Dragons assumably on or near the Tyrian continent). So either way, if it does appear, it will be years down the road, unless something different comes our way.

Plus this would be an ArenaNet created item and thus the information would be relatively infallible, unlike the wiki, which has been known to be mistaken on things from time to time.

Flame Legion working with Dragons?

in Lore

Narcemus.1348

Very similar to the theory many people have about the sylvari being born to protect the planet from the dragons. Tyria itself is revolting against the cycle of destruction and pulling out everything it can to fight it. The effects of a dragon rising far outreach the dragon. The book Edge of Destiny has Rata Sum suffering an earthquake, Hoelbrak having geysers erupt from the tundra behind, and a tidal wave carrying ships into the streets of Lion’s Arch all for Kralkatorrik’s awakening. It is very visible that the world itself suffers greatly from the awakening of a dragon, and if the world has any sentience at all (remembering this is GW and crazier things have happened in the mists) it would fight against having another such situation appear again.

I believe they intentionally made the lore in GW2 a lot less blatant. They are forcing players to go around and talk to random NPC’s, pick up random books, or explore dangerous sites in order to understand the lore of the area a lot more often. It fits a lot with the Durmand Priory (who are the lorehounds of GW2 constantly seeking new information from the past), and it just works in general as to how you would find out what you can in a world where so much has been lost to the ages.

It would require a major overhaul of the race to even get to the level of the norn. Norn make massive lodges, jotun make huts. These races are night and day. The jotun will not be anything close to playable in GW2 (IMO).
