We do not know that there are any more than the 6 (with the 6th being speculation, however heavily implied). But you seem to think that all of them are on mainland Tyria, which is off. Jormag is far north of Tyria aiming south, he could absolutely be part of an expansion that makes the vast areas north of Tyria available. And with Kralkatorrik, he could be anywhere. We know he went down into the crystal desert, but from there he vanished, he could be east of the Blazeridge mountains, or perhaps have even moved into Elona (although I would think the Whispers would have some information about this). Bubbles (DSD) is located somewhere in the vast ocean between Tyria and Cantha. Primordus is digging around in the depths of the planet. He could honestly be anywhere in the world (remember the dredge were able to tunnel to Cantha, I wouldn’t put it past an ED). Lastly, Mordremoth is entirely speculation. He could be anywhere in the world, known or unknown. So I don’t personally believe it is necessary for more elder dragons to be around for the rest of the world to open up, I believe that perhaps they are the reason the rest of the world opens up, and we have to deal with other big world problems along the way.
I would say, based on minions, that Kralkatorrik is probably stronger than Jormag. Jormag’s strength lies in his mind, and Kralkatorrik’s strength is in, well, brute strength. This is merely opinion though.
They may not be planning it, but that’s no different from the fact that they aren’t planning an expansion yet either. As in it WILL happen (yes my stance is firm here) but it just isn’t something that’s quite underway yet.
If you can find that historian it would be great, but until then the whole thing still stinks to me. Even with the Dhuum or Grenth explanations.
They claimed that spot first, so it’s theirs now, lol. I just hope it turns into a tiny grawl village.
So you say it existed then, then why hasn’t it’s use grown? People FEAR death, and they would do anything in their power to put it off or remove it, so why then did no one ever attempt to take a magic that DID exist and try to expand it. Read here that only ONCE does anyone ever try to resurrect the dead in GW2 (that I can think of), yet in GW1 there were priests all over luxon and kurzick territories, and monks in ascalon that manned the shrines and caused resurrection. So you expect me to believe that none of these people passed on their knowledge of resurrection? No resurrection signets got passed on? No monk PC, hero, or henchman ever passed on their resurrection skills? It is ridiculous to believe that all these people had this power (even if it was only used sparingly) and no one was able to bring it into the time-period of GW2. Necromancers can now make their minions last indefinitely and they still hold to their master’s will when he “dies”. Micah Ferguson himself states, “Any skills I once taught pale in comparison to the power you wield, hero.” Yet no one in this vastly magically advanced world can resurrect?
Even if people didn’t resurrect all the time, they still resurrected. It was stated to be real in the world (which I choose to ignore and treat the same as how we “revive” players in GW2) and then this disappears. People are no longer ever able to come back from the dead, and no one thinks any different of it? I think not.
I still have the right to believe as I so, especially when it makes no sense. In GW1 there was soooooo much death that could have been prevented through resurrection (not just talking major characters), not to mention the fact that in GW2 resurrection is only mentioned once that I’m aware of, Gaheron. And Gaheron’s resurrection obviously take much longer and is a much more difficult and complex situation than we had in GW1. With the way that every other form of magic has advanced over the years it seems remarkably dumb to think that people have forgotten how to bring people back to life when it used to be so easy… Not to mention the fact that even if resurrection was available in GW1 but it no longer available in GW2, there is absolutely no mention of the fact that this ability was lost to people. I mean, if I lived in a world where people were resurrected all the time, I think I would note the fact that it STOPPED and people who died were just dead. I think that would merit conversation more than where the stupid gargoyles disappeared to…
I don’t know, in my opinion there is only 1 resurrection of the characters that is valid, and that is their resurrection after being slain by Shiro. Other than that I prefer to believe that resurrection was more of a thing of mechanics rather than lore. I understand that GW1 tried to tie it into their Grenth lore, but in the end it was really a flimsy way of crediting it to something. In the end resurrection didn’t make any sense to me in a world where, when people died it was permanent. And in Tyria the only people that ever seem to come back from death are the PC’s.
I love GW1 nostalgia, and one of the things that bugs me about GW2 a lot more than it should is the lack of dance variety. I too want my GW1 dances back!
No, I think it’s good for someone to have an idea that’s not always dragon related every once and a while, and I have a feeling that it may, perhaps have some validity behind it (as speculative as it may be). I could see the orb perhaps even having a stronger presence within the Underworld, because this is where the souls are sent to (at least those souls under Dhuum’s control). So perhaps in the UW it had the ability to prevent any spirits from ever leaving. Once Grenth came in he removed it and took it to Tyria, dropping it into the ocean where it’s effects would be muted. As always speculative, but I like where your train of thought is leading. I’m personally seeing it having a location somewhere in the Tower that was cast down to make the Chaos Planes.
…I’m tempted to call “oversight”, but if we assume that it is indeed deliberate, then the combination of lightning effects with a spirit-summoning ritual might mean that Rhie is a rare example of a true modern ritualist. Alternatively, we’ve never really had an explanation for how some of the new effects like elemental summoning glyphs and weapon conjures work – it could be that (unlike naturally occurring elementals) an elementalist summoning an elemental is actually conjuring a spirit using ritualist techniques, while also forming an elemental body for it to inhabit.
It sounds a lot like the theory behind the tamed elementals in Garrenhoff and the people that Isengarren invites to his tower which never return…. Although in my mind it seems just as likely that necromancer minions have spirits within them as the elementals. It makes more sense to me that they are merely mindless beings following their master’s commands.
It doesn’t make much sense to me that this orb could have been created to hurt Dhuum. Dhuum was against the resurrection of the dead and the creation of undead. Because of this it doesn’t make much sense that an orb that prevents this would have been made to hurt him, but perhaps it was created by him or for him to help promote his policy on the subject. Then, because of Grenth’s more lenient policy, it was removed and thus Grenth allowed the creation of undead and resurrection (which seems to have disappeared/never really happened/resurrection is just a confusing subject).
Good find Lokhiet! I just wish it had all made it into the game, especially if a lot of it can already be found in the world (the god’s statues).
Priestess Rhie is a follower of Grenth, which means she is most likely fairly knowledgeable about the necromancer profession. So this would most likely point back to what Konig has stated about necromancy taking in some of the teachings of the ritualists.
Then you would have players on opposite sides of the field when it comes to enemies… Which is all out PvP in the game world. Something ArenaNet prefers to stay away from. PvP and PvE are two completely separate areas.
No, tkittenonhawke gates are different and are seen in their own specific concept arts.
Fine, fine. I’ll go sit in my corner.
Kryta was founded twice, once by Elona (I believe the second founding was by Elona). This would be why Lion’s Arch was was named as such, it was bringing elonian ideas and such over to Tyria. But to answer your question, there was never a single lion in Tyria, only in Elona.
Couldn’t the dangers that Sayeh mentions be it’s extreme importance to the Krait? I mean once the Risen are pushed out, I could see the Krait attempting to reclaim their artifact, thus meaning that it may hold no direct tie to the DSD (should your theory on the Krait tie to the DSD be incorrect).
Also, perhaps it was a Forgotten creation, but it did not work out entirely as expected and it had a “danger” of some sort which would be why they threw it into the depths of the ocean to be rid of it (being as there were no known underwater races in the previous rise). Entirely speculation, but they are just as likely as anything else.
This is definitely not the right section of the forum for this. Still I would help ya if I knew, and I have absolutely no clue.
If I had to choose between the two I would side with him as well. My personal hope is that our PC’s help capture him and then out-maneuver the Consortium to help out the Settlers.
I don’t think anyone thinks of Canach as a hero. I personally see him as a villain alongside the Consortium (who also are villains in a different sense). I like that they have a little more of this type of play in the game.
Except we know from an A-Net dev that he got the molten gloves from Raiding a Molten Facility, thus he was no friend of the Molten Alliance.
I personally agree with Pixel that they look a lot like the Colossus type figures. How they might be tied to them is another thing. They are muuuuuuch to small to be created by a Colossus. They just seem a bit too realistic to be elonian. And Ascalonian statues tend to have a lot of armor to them, from our guesses.
Yeah, same here. I would post, but I think it would be the same thing I said over the last 20 or so posts. I think we’ve done this to death, and then we kept doing it for another 15 posts or so, lol.
I do not think they can, nor should they, give the elder dragons more “personality” then they already have. I think for interesting enemies to become involved in the game they would have to be centered around Joko, The White Mantle, Cantha’s Emperor. Pretty much people that aren’t completely mind numbed by dragons. Personal Nemesis has a possible chance to add this type as well.
And this has been “Religious Teachings with Drax.” Tune in next week for Koda, Blessed are the Balanced.
That is probably the most in-depth look into a GW1 religion I have seen in a long time, although it does make a lot of sense, and was a good read. I just loved, though, how it felt like it was part of a sermon series of some sort :P
Yeah, so for all of our information there was some, or multiple (based on skeleton types) beasts roaming Tyria that were even larger than G-Lupe, but smaller than a Colossus, obviously. More wonderful information to get someday
About Canach, and the original post. The guy has definitely changed a bit between the stories. I wonder if we’ll ever go into why he went from green to black, or lost his hair…
Well, ArenaNet loves to leave those things hanging so that someday they can pick back up on it. And until then the players can continue to gossip about the stuff and what all might occur with it.
Ventari, not Verata. Verata was a necromancer in GW1 that would experiment on and kill people in order to learn newer and stronger necromantic skills. As a necromancer you were ordered to hunt him and a few others down so that they didn’t take the order down.
The sylvari have many options when it comes to the dream. Many go out in the world and do whatever they want. You have the NC who are evil, and also the Soundless who have cut themselves off from the dream. I think the Sylvari may actually be more free to do whatever they want than most other races just because there aren’t strict social structures trying to tie them down. Just more of a conscience that they can decide to listen to or ignore.

Yes John, but much of what we have on these races aren’t even in the game. Much of what we know of the other races and such come from ArenaNet blog posts that have been lost in the hundreds of other posts. They could expand a lot of things in-game if they wanted to.
It irks me that ArenaNet seem to want the centaurs to be a “black” race even though they have all the makings of a “grey” race. The Modniir are the evil centaurs who have the strongest magic by the look of things, all the other centaurs appear to be merely forced into action. All it would take for the centaur to no longer be a “black” faction would be for either the Modniir to be wiped or for the Tamini and Harathi to have something greater to fear than the Modniir. IMO the Veldrunners (elonian) would be more likely to ally with humans than to fall away. They had a definite hatred for Joko, and I would believe that they would rather ally with any rebel humans rather than just die off.
Possible future fractal, only one that I can think of, is possibly the Uncatagorized Fractal. Most of the others are in a state that “could be, or could not be”. The Mossman, Dredge, grawl, all these could really be any point in time.
Wow, well I can’t say I disagree Obsidian. I don’t believe I have ever stated that this game is an example of perfection, and I have complained many times about not having more of the back-handed manipulative enemies in the game, like in the original. I was merely stating that I do not believe that just because we do not like what they have done doesn’t mean that (stupid censor) it has happened (speaking of this specifically in terms of Lore). Just because I loved Dumbledore doesn’t mean I can continue to live in the fantasy that the end of book 6 didn’t occur… I do not find it hard to believe at all that history from 1,000-2,000 years ago was tainted with half or partial truths. I just do not see the effect on lore as being a bad thing like you have stated. Like I said I do agree with a lot of what you have said on the game as a whole, but I just do not see it like you do in the realm of game lore.
Only invulnerable because kittenally wants to punch a cute baby devourer :P
Well, from what we can tell the Bloodstones do not pull in more magic, they just contain the magic from back when they were created. I say this because of the fact that we have Ritualists who were around before Abaddon released magic. So I do not believe the bloodstones would help balance the magic in the world, it was just a one time thing. I wouldn’t be surprised if your theory holds some truth, though, and the races have to find some way to slow the growth of magic in Tyria. At the same time though, the rate at which magic grows in Tyria means that there really isn’t much worry for perhaps another few hundred years. It comes in more like a trickle than anything else.
Well IF they would focus on it we could hope to someday see a truly dynamic world and not a static world with a few moving parts like what we have now.
Some has already been revealed, and I would definitely expect that they may someday explain a little more when it comes to the gods and humanity’s backstory someday. It seems that too much has been added for them to not come back to sometime in the future.
I don’t think anyone here believes at all that they are fully gone, written out, or anything of the sort. They were a major force behind the first game and it would be a terrible choice to completely remove them.
Largos wearing masks underwater may be no different from land creatures wearing masks, helms, etc…
Might, although anything to be said for the Void and it’s intentions and everything are entirely speculative. I do agree though that I may have been wrong about what spirits can fear.
Plus it makes more sense for a mortal to fear their end than a spirit, although there is always an option that there is something after being a spirit. I do have to note here how many spirits we killed in the UW to save other spirits from being killed by them.
Kormir’s the goddess of knowledge not secrets. They decided to make that change specifically to show that she is different in personality from Abaddon. She promotes the search for more knowledge whereas Abaddon kept the knowledge for himself, and perhaps his few followers. As for Livia, it seems highly unlikely that she’s alive, even with the Scepter of Orr at her control. Plus she didn’t have anything against Norn or Charr, her hatred was definitely for the White Mantle.
It is also possible that the gods sent the forgotten, perhaps as scouts to look for new places for them to live. Thus the gods opened portals to allow them in, but the gods themselves did not set foot until later. This would make you wonder what kind of war they were coming from to make a near fully dragon corrupted Tyria seem like a better option.
IDK if it is a betrayal of the personal storyline, being as your presence doesn’t save her. Alternatively I think that having too many people that are dead for one character and alive for another character would confuse the game a lot.
It makes more sense, in my mind, that Malchor created a statue to Grenth while Grenth was still young, which would explain his more youthful appearance compared to GW1’s portrayal. Then the gods went into Arah, Malchor killed himself, and some unknown time later Grenth took down Dhuum at the place his father died. You know what they say, the simplest solution.
I would actually say that him killing a bunch of sylvari, without some proper bounty, WOULD be evil to them. The largos have a very strong honor system, and I am pretty sure this would betray it.
nah, Sauron wasn’t a good villain, more interesting than him were the fallen 9 ringwraiths. The finale in LotR was just bad – no direct confrontation with the villain at all. Palpatine had sort of a backstory – haven’t you seen episode III? The Borg had that queen, was a pretty interesting villain.
It all depends on how in depth you go into the whole story, with GW2 and LOTR. Sauron is a much better villian if you read the Silmarillion and The Hobbit and gain a lot more backstory on him.
