I’d agree that this is likely the case as well. It would make sense for a group like the Zaishen or another to take charge of the mist war. And in their early years they would still have been rather devoted to Balthazar, even if they have slowly started creeping away from that towards a more all-inclusive perspective.
Yeah. Based on the concept art I had originally assumed that the Durmand Priory was built into Anvil Rock, but that didn’t end up being the case. I am looking forward to more of those northern areas myself.
I apologize Fang, certain squabbles have been ongoing on this forum, which is why things escalate so fast. The best answer I can give you is that it most likely will appear in new territories further north in the Shiverpeaks. It just simply isn’t in the area that the game currently has available.
The only thing that seems to point towards the area being build by Balthazar is the fact that there is sooooooo many Balthazar images etched into the structures. But this doesn’t mean that he made the area at all. For all we know the structures were created by the first people to enter the world of the mist war. Playing other player worlds only comes from mechanics that I know of, literally playing other servers. Other than one asuran story there is no lore holding the idea of alternate universes existing. If such a thing exists, in my opinion it is centered around a real world (the Tyria that we know) and some “shadows” of what it could be on other sides. One of those shadows being the reality where the asura story I mentioned happens.
There’s a memorial to him in the Granite Citadel? I only recall his misspelled tomb (“Stonekin” vs “Stoneskin”).
I’d have to go back, wiki is incomplete on the subject…
Which, should he be as old as Konig seems to imagine (which I see as a good possibility) he could have long ago reached that state.
It all depends on whether Obsidian likes it or not. Make sense now?
I have a feeling that they most definitely could be involved in whatever procedure brings us back there.
I personally still stand by the belief that there was a Great Dwarf. I am very interested in how they tie this up (if they do) but for now I stick by that idea. I think there are many interesting ways where both the Hive Mind and the actual being could be linked into the creation of the dwarven race.
Kilroy Stonekin.
@ Gandarel: The memorial to Kilroy Stonekin at the Granite Citadel seems to point to the idea that he is, in fact, dead. There could be a change in the future, but for now it seems to be the case.
No one knows the life span of a djinn. Heck, they could live for thousands of years as far as we know. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that some of the elder ones can grow to travel and expand their horizons past what they once protected. IDK where I’m going with this, just saying though.
On topic, Anvil rock is located north of Snowden and west of Frostgorge. If you look at some of the territory you’ll realize that Yak’s bend is partway up in Frostgorge, meaning that the uppermost territory isn’t actually as far north as we could go in GW1.
What he’s stating Gandarel, is that it is most likely independent at the current moment. Why it would be such is an unknown, but is most likely to be related in some way to the wizard.
I apologize at being wrong in my original remark Thal. Somehow I had a vastly different view of how they entered than the book stated. I still believe though, like I stated earlier, that if the area becomes some type of dungeon of sorts, that it will most likely be entered from the possible explorable areas surrounding the city, and not from within the city itself.
Yeah, this has been asked for again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again and still hasn’t been implemented. It makes photographer players like me struggle a lot with getting that vista we need. I mean you can always make your player sleep, but then you have to get just the right angle so the sleeping body isn’t in it or cut off some of the bottom of the screen which is annoying. I would really love a first person perspective.
Alright, for some of your easy improvements. I do not know what channel it is in, but if you are in your main chat with every line open, you can usually see the dialogue from the cinematics as well as any random dialogue that happens throughout the story. I think it depends though, sometimes it is in the whisper chat line and sometimes it is in the map chat for me I believe.
I believe that there is an LFG system in the works, but I think they need to get it in order and implemented, lol. Another WvW update can wait a few weeks so they can get the LFG system going.
Definitely agree that we should be able to replay our storyline. When I started I had a crappy computer with terrible lag that just barely had the stats required to play the game at the lowest level. I would love to replay my main Sylvari’s story and see everything with fresh eyes (on my new computer that can run everything on max easily)
I’m just saying, he’s defeat able, and we have no clue if any of the other NPC’s could have defeated him because we (in our uber-awesomeness) took them out first, lol. Just because he’s the best norn, doesn’t mean he’s the best swordsman, lol.
I do not believe any of the spines found throughout the world would support anything quite that large either. It would have to be something between the sizes of the Colossus and the current G-Lupe.
And fair enough Thalador, I suppose they would be located in some sort of nether between solid fact (which itself is always changing) and speculation, probably closer to the solid fact category. Of course ArenaNet could always go and say locations like the Lupicus Graveyard are actually located somewhere on the map in a zone that they didn’t end up adding to the game… Always wiggle room.
Well, yes Thalador, but nothing that we see in either game of the dredge speaks of the type of intricate engravings we find located in Kurzick Territory. Plus if I remember correctly the dredge are a more recent occurrence to the area.
Well, honestly it may not even be added to the game until there is new territory opened anyways, so there is always the chance that it could be entered through a new territory or two located north of Divinity’s Reach. I agree that it’s likely, should they use it for Living Story, or something similar it would be through an already existing location, but if it becomes a new dungeon or something similar it seems more likely to be entered through a new explorable zone rather than a city. There is only 1 “dungeon” available inside of a city, and I don’t really consider fractals to be a true dungeon.
Not unheard of….
There is the possibility that Joko wanted Zomorros for some reason (magical powers and all), so the Order of Whispers worked to make sure he and his keeper got out of Elona and out of Joko’s reach.
At first it was just the best explanation. Then browsing the gw.dat after Nightfall had come (… and gone badum tissssh) out, revealed this:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/The_Lupicus_Boneyard
Graveyard of huge beast, their fossils unearthed by the unheaval of the Abaddon’s return.
It can be actually found in-game, in the Poisoned Outcrops of the Desolation.
Yes but Thal, isn’t information from the .dat file considered more speculation than fact? I mean I remember reading about all the .dat locations in the Realm of Torment like Abaddon’s Children and such. I personally would love to see what the heck these skeletons are. What the draconic skeleton in Ascalon Catacombs Pre-Searing was, and other such things.
Erm, Koss writes books too, but mostly because he’s full of him self. Either way, my character beat the snot out of Magni, so we all know who wins :P
Thal, the Skull Plaza shouldn’t be the only entrance to the catacombs, if I remember right. As they exited in the book they didn’t exit into the city, but onto the beach, likely behind the city onto what was once one of the “Giant’s Basins”.
Asura gate would be the simplest solution to that sort of matter.
No, what he is stating Ludo is that this isn’t the place to discuss the validity of taking that statement (your video) as lore. My guess is that there has been some in length discussions/debates on the subject that he does not wish to repeat.
As for the dragons not gaining strength, actually it is obvious that they are doing just that. I mean from the perspective in game it could be stated that they are merely going from a state of near starvation to being well fed, which in turn would make them stronger, but at the same time none of the dragons have eaten magical artifacts of any major significance. We could not say that all of the artifacts in Orr combined would equal up to the magical worth of even half of a god, let alone a whole god. The effect on the dragon could be extremely significant, and I honestly believe that if ArenaNet does have this happen, and they do not have something occur because of it, they have missed a major opportunity.
Yeah, was there ever lore to state that the skeletons that we see ARE Giganticus Lupicus? Or was it more of a situation of it being the best explanation for the skeletons? Sadly I wasn’t even aware that there was a lore community in GW1, so I mostly absorbed all of my knowledge from the GWW and took what I read as fact. (Probably the biggest explanation for a few of my blunders in the past when it comes to reading speculation as fact.)
I’m pretty sure I’ve caught myself saying “I’d like to go back to Ireland” before, even though I’ve never been there. It is where a vast majority of my heritage comes from and it’s been a desire for a long time to travel there. It could be a very similar situation, though, as Konig said, it’s not impossible for it to be the other situation either.
There’s always the chance though that it was the gods convening together and deciding that Kormir would be the best suited replacement. Because of this they said a few words that they knew humans would take as law, and humans decided that Kormir was the only one who could do it. It’s not as cool of an idea, but it is a possibility. As Konig said, it is a situation where there is no visible evidence of this “blessing” given by the Avatar of Lyssa.
Whether or not Melandru is Melaggan, I find it highly unlikely that she is dead. I mean the death of a god should be something big to be expanded upon in my mind. There is every possibility that the quaggan misinterpreted the situation or made assumptions. Either way, much like you will not believe Zhaitan is dead, I will not believe Melandru is dead until it is made lore.
Sir, it is not necessary to lash out at people because they do not think your ideas are possible. None of what I have read from lordkrall or Konig has been insulting or rude in any way, and yet you seem to have taken what was a basic explanation of the situation and turned it into an assault against you.
Some theorize that they have used the asuran gate below Kamadan that was used to usher player characters from Nightfall to Eye of the North, but the problem is that we are not sure that this is canon, because of the fact that those quests aren’t always quite real. I mean a quest that ushers Nightfall players into the Prophecies storyline (which ended years before Nightfall) isn’t necessarily something that really happened. As for the ability to move into Elona, it may not be fact, but at the same time the article does state that it somehow “aids it’s military in their fight”. Somehow I find the idea of just communicating with Elona would do very little to aid them.
Well that’s quite probably the only reason that he kept living beings in Elona at all. I mean an undead population should technically be easier to control (although based on some of his generals we do not know that to be true). But after a certain point in time an undead army will die off unless it has living beings to replenish it’s stocks.
Eh, the mini factoid just means that he has a cool skin.
Yeah, but the dwarves also fight the mursaat in the missions that we see them in. So there is always the chance that the mursaat had gone all out war on people and had abandoned their stealth anyways. It is a possibility that being phased out (which is what we are told through Explorable Arah is what they did) didn’t allow them to use their magic to it’s full devastating potential. This is all theory, it could also be that the dwarves were all gifted with true sight as well. In the end, it is just something that we will have to just wait for more information on.
I want to start by saying that in my mind Cantha is far off (even if I personally want it to be the next expansion). I mean with two elder dragons on Tyria’s doorstep, 1 underneath, and one hidden somewhere in the sea, it seems to me that the Pact has a bunch of cleaning up to do at home before moving out. Personally, I think if the next expansion opens up an old territory it will be Elona, mainly because of the proximity to the last known location of an elder dragon, Kralkatorrik, and also to one of the Pact’s most fortified locations, Fort Trinity.
But off of that I think lordkrall has some points. Luxon/Kurzick is probably out the window. If anything I would guess that there are quite possibly groups of luxons and kurzicks that have teamed up to rebel against the Canthan Empire (depending on if the empire is oppressive at all, since we know so little about it).
On the subject of professions, I do not believe ArenaNet will go down that road personally. As much as I want my Ritualist back, I think ArenaNet learned from the major balancing issues that they had in GW1 and will not be adding professions with every expansion. On the subject of monk, the smiting of monks are very prevalent in many of the skills on the guardian. Many of the skills have the same sort of feel of the smiting monk without the exact conditions because of the way in which they simplified conditions. As for the paragon, some of their skills moved to the monk, but I have a feeling that most of their shouts moved on to the Warrior (who already had a selection of shouts, it only makes sense that they expanded their repertoire). And the Dervish is a profession fully devoted to the human gods. The key word here is HUMAN. The dervish skills are all related directly to prayers to the gods, much like the monk. This type of profession would not work for a charr, asura, or sylvari. You could possibly make a comparison with the norn spirits, but I feel like this would definitely be reaching. In the end, I think the more likely scenario would be for ArenaNet to give us extra weapons for the professions we already have in order to expand the play styles without causing as many balancing issues as a whole new profession.
As for races, what you have seems a little off. For one, Cantha is extremely anti-racial, until new lore tells us otherwise. So it seems unlikely that there would be any other racial homelands or even large populations in Cantha, unless they expand the continent further south. In this case the races that I could see being involved would be those related directly to the storyline in Cantha, those would be Dredge, Tengu, Naga, and possibly Wardens, although Wardens are really close in nature to Sylvari. Enough that many people who did not play Guild Wars originally would get confused as to how they are different.
On the open world PvP, I find this unlikely in GW. Ever since the creation of GW1, there has been a separation between PvE and PvP. It isn’t necessarily lore that it would go against, it is just the basic concepts of the game. The open world has always been about cooperation and you can go into the Mists if you want competition. I’m not saying it is an impossibility, just that it seems unlikely to me.
Have you played Guild Wars 1 at all?
I’m sorry, but this kind of attitude will not make you any friends in the game. That was a very harsh statement over really nothing. Each player is allowed their opinion, and just because he didn’t go into a full explanation like me doesn’t mean that he does not know the game.

Actually I do not believe that the henchmen gained ascension, only our player characters. If I remember right this was the reasoning behind why henchmen couldn’t enter the Fissure of Woe or the Underworld, but I do not have proof of this other than the fact that when we ascend it is only the Player Character and his doppelganger. One could say that the others faced a similar trial in order to get through, but we never see this, nor do we have any proof of it.
What you are saying is we destroyed the physical form of Zhaitan, but his magical essence may still exist somewhere and reform. The only problem I have with this theory is that in the land of Tyria and even in the Mists, it seems that for magic of such large concentration to stay together it needs some sort of physical form. I mean technically Abaddon should have been able to still survive on some higher level as a being of pure magic, but instead the magic started to release violently. I think a similar situation is what is happening with Zhaitan, only on a much less violent level. The magic that made up Zhaitan is being released back into Tyria. I do have to wonder, though, if such a concentration of magic energy can go un-tampered with, or if it becomes inert, if it doesn’t leave some sort of blight on the land because of the malicious nature of it.
But the Order of Whispers is no where near infallible. In my mind, the idea of Zhaitan not being dead comes more from groups of people who just refuse to believe that a dungeon as “lame” as Arah was a fight against an epic Elder Dragon. That being said, we’ll know the truth when more land opens up and we get to see the rest of Orr. If Zhaitan’s body isn’t located somewhere in the rest of Orr, then I’ll definitely join the “He Ain’t Dead!” club.
Actually Gandarel, I have a feeling that Aaron’s explanation is closer to the truth of in-game lore. I have a feeling that it will be much in tune with if we ever see the Dervish or Paragon professions out and about. They will only be seen as NPC’s and we will not have the opportunity to be them ourselves.
Well, to some degree, it makes sense that people who spend their lives with such a deep connection to death and the afterlife would have some sort of control over their own afterlife. Not all obviously, it would take someone of immense strength to break a curse with their sheer will, but still it is interesting. One has to wonder if a ghost like Bria will end up still haunting the area after the Foefire curse is lifted…
There was no Necromancer Bria that I could remember from GW1, nor is there anything that I can find from a quick GW1 Wiki search.

I’m saying that it is possibly the reason they didn’t do that in the first place, not why they haven’t done it now, lol.
The gods came from the mists with their powers already in hand. And we are told that the magic of the playable races, as well as that of the seers, jotun, and dwarves are all from the bloodstone. This magic was all magic not already corrupted by the dragons. This does make me wonder though, would it not be possible to create another bloodstone and use it as a dragon-magic vacuum? Although it would be quite possibly dangerous to put that much magic in one object, probably why they didn’t do it.
The problem with it being forgotten is that for the most part they are magic users. We do not see any forgotten wielding swords, axes, daggers, hammers, or anything. Much like the Mursaat they created enchanted beings to wield weapons for them.
My own personal theory comes from their being two sets of 3 elder dragons. We know for a fact that Primordus chooses not to corrupt living beings, and from the description of the DSD we can state that it seems he creates his own minions instead of corrupting them as well. This may or may not be true, depending on whether there are any connections between the DSD and Krait. I also theorize that Mordremoth creates his own minions from plants rather than corrupting already sapient beings, but this is speculation and may be proven wrong depending on how true Konig’s theory on the connection between the Nightmare Court and Mordremoth is. Something we will have to wait and see about as more knowledge is brought forward.
My personal theory sits around 3 elder dragons having existed in a time before there was sentient life on Tyria (Primordus, DSD, Mordremoth). Most of what existed was land, water, and plant life. These 3 elements were able to be harnessed by the 3 Elder Dragons that were created first and they were able to wage war against each other this way. Here there is a little bit of a slip, somehow sentient life and magic would have had to grow in Tyria to a great enough scale for 3 more elder dragons to be created. My theory is that magic waned and the original 3 Elder Dragons went into slumber and slept too long, allowing the land to start to be cleansed either naturally, or through corruption fighting corruption. Eventually life grew and so did magic, and the original Elder Dragons did not know how they were created, so they slept longer than they should have allowing magic to grow to the point of creating more Elder Dragons (Jormag, Kralkatorrik, Zhaitan). These Elder Dragons were able to harness the lives of sentient or sapient beings whereas the first Elder Dragons were unable to because of their inability to comprehend anything other than the base elements that they worked with. It is still a growing theory, some iterations have the first 3 Elder Dragons being the actual creators of Tyria, but as per some comments presented, there seems to always be a 1 for 1 when it comes to material used to make their minions.
Wow….
I feel I have some apologizing to do here almost. It seems that a spout I had with Konig a short while back on the basis of resurrection has turned into a witch hunt almost. Sure he’s blunt, and somewhat antagonizing at times but in all honesty it comes only in times where people are outright wrong about what they say, or choose to misconstrue the lore. I’ll admit that even in my own situation I chose the wrong outlook in the matter. I have to ask, whether or not his attitude is always correct, is it really right to attempt to run him out of the forums?
