And Charr hold no claim. In fact they don’t care about the land one bit. Their whole plan was just to wipe out humanity in one swift stroke and of course their gods kept aiming them to Arah, so that’s where their army went. Plus none of the Legions are in anywhere close to the shape they need to be in to hold land that far out. It’s wreckless, just like Kryta trying to get control.

Erm, the King, that we know of, had no idea that the Vizier was going to destroy the country. Heck, we don’t have evidence that the Vizier knew, but it does seem to hint that if the Vizier did know, he tricked the King into thinking that what he was doing would save them, not harm them.

Lionguard probably claimed Southsun to prevent the Consortium from causing another Karka attack, not because they’re land hungry.

You honestly think the Kodan will go as far south as Orr?

Quaggan may decide to live in the waters around Orr, but that still leaves the land free.

Ogres weren’t pushed out because of the Branding. They lived in the mountains and are coming out to fight now that the charr have backed off. Branding didn’t hurt their homelands at all. Merely hit some of their hunting parties. Plus, even if relocated, it would be a forced relocation and very few ogres would make it to Orr (because they would fight it the whole way).

Asura and Mursaat?

Narcemus.1348

It seems highly unlikely, because of the fact that the only source we have of a depiction of a Mursaat city as “On the fourth day, delirious with hunger, Saul emerged from the trees to see what he thought was a hallucination—a city of massive towers reaching into the heavens. The architecture was astounding, and the creatures who lived here were unlike any he had ever seen.” This falls very short of what we see in Rata Sum.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Saul_D%27Alessio

On top of that, it is also stated by Konig that the naming of the city is similar to two known asura cities that pre-date any connection they might have had to the Mursaat. Plus the architecture found within the GW1 version of Rata Sum is very similar to that of Rata Pten and other asura buildings found in the Depths of Tyria. This points to Rata Sum and the structures nearby having been the remains of perhaps a krewe or groups of krewes that were researching on the surface before either they were wiped out (by monsters or their own creations) or they went back underground and did not tell others because they did not want to share their findings.

I highly doubt the “What Scarlet Saw” was hastily thrown together because of the angry response. I’m pretty sure that it was already planned out, especially since they had done similar things all the way since Flame and Frost introduced Braham and Rox…

I do think there’s something to be said about the comparison to Batman’s Joker. I am very interested, though, as to how she keeps all of these factions under her control, and where she’s been keeping them hidden this whole freaking time. I mean I understand the twisted creations thing, but there is an armada of Aetherblades attacking zones at any given time, and there is still a large portion of Molten Alliance individuals to be found. I just don’t understand where she’s kept this army hidden away at, and how she keeps them under her control. Eventually mercenaries or people terrorized into service leave their master after they have been massacred to a certain point…

Sorry for diverting the topic, but I’m getting tired of people complaining about her personality, when nothing about it is gonna be changed during this chapter of the story. Obviously it’s gonna take time for her character to be filled out.

He is talking about the theorized reason that the gods brought humanity to Tyria in the first place. When the gods first came to Tyria it was a mess of dragon corruption, and minions, and even with this they decided that this is where they would bring humanity. Because of this people theorize that there is something even darker and more devious out in the mists that pushed them all out in the first place.

I didn’t care for Scarlet because I had no connection with her. She never popped up except for this LS (with a brief cameo during the Gauntlet). It’s like the LOTR trilogy with Sauron being introduced only during the assault on Barad-dur. There was no buildup, no interweaving themes (except for episodic villains like the Pirates and Molten alliance). If we could have gotten smaller clues during the previous LS, it would have tied everything together and made the whole story more cohesive.

We’ve never seen villains pop up and take claim for all the past actions of GW stories… Cough Abaddon Cough I seriously think people need to get their panties unbunched and give them more than 1 single story to flesh out a character. Heck, half of people’s problems with the original GW2 personal story was having NPC deaths making little impact on the players because they had their introduction and death in the same instance. Time is necessary, give them some of it to work with, lol.

I don’t know why everyone thinks the Cathedrals need to be torn down because of Zhaitan’s corruption. We’ve cleared out and removed enemies and cut the temples connection to Zhaitan many times, plus the magic of the land itself has started the process of cleansing, thus most likely the Cathedrals will eventually be cleansed just like the rest of the land.

Reincarnation can take many forms. I know the hindu religion believes one’s soul can be reincarnated into all kinds of animals or humans. Taking it into the world of Tyria and making it part of the Sylvari making process wouldn’t be a very far from the original use of the term. We don’t know that they have an overpopulation problem. They did in GW1, but that was before an afflicted invasion and a few major wars between warring guilds, a purging from the Ministry of Purity, and eventually the war to conquer the land. On top of that Kurzick and Luxon land is both in the process of healing and fully under the control of the empire so spreading out is much more viable.

Bunch of brutes rose from bronze age to mortars and tanks in the matter of 250 years, and you think witty asians with extreme levels of population growth won’t find their way? Come on. I think their emperor already has his own mist-shuttle by now.
Jade sea and petrified forests perhaps already thawed too.

We don’t know that the canthans have massive levels of population growth though. It is stated in Factions that the overpopulation problem in Kaineng City was almost fully caused by the fact that the Jade Wind forced people to flee the Echovald Forest and Jade Sea. Now that those areas are healing (we know they are healing but not how long it will take for the healing to be complete) the areas can be moved back into. That plus massive amounts of population decline caused by disease, affliction, and war after war after war after war would make there be little need to expand past the continent they already have. Isolationist countries very rarely have reason to expand, because doing so makes them vulnerable. There is no reason for them to try to claim land, especially as far away as Orr. Heck if they went to claim anything it would probably be Elona more than anything because it is much closer, and less of a strain on resources, but that I find even less likely.

It’s like she’s just there for the sake of being there, and her actions are done just for the hell of it. And on top of this, she’s some sort of super-genius in a race that shares knowledge with each other… yet no one else knows the things she does?

@ Konig:

Just because she knows all of the things she does, doesn’t mean that other sylvari will. I mean you know, as well as anyone else on the lore forums, that the Dream doesn’t just work as an easily read deposit of information, otherwise the Order of Whispers would never allow sylvari inside. Plus the Pale Tree itself never claims to hold all the knowledge of the Dream either. She just merely claims to shepherd it somehow.

Plus, as intelligent as she is, she may have been able to find a way in which she partially separates herself from the Dream. It’s not unthinkable, based on the fact that soundless exist, that she could just prevent specific information from being recorded within the dream while still connecting to some degree. There are plenty of options.

On my side, I like her too. I think a lot of the hate comes from so far not knowing all the information, which is something that the playerbase should expect from the introduction of other factions in the past.

I definitely agree that killing a god would be very tough. Abaddon had very little physical form, he was demented, there’s no telling how magically adept he was compared to his prime (where he was stated to be able to take on 2 gods). No doubt what we did was almost a mercy killing. I do not see Abaddon coming back though, mainly because of the absorption of his powers into Kormir. Should his powers have survived, I could have seen the possibility of everything coming back together, but with his powers gone and his physical form destroyed (what we saw) it seems unlikely (though obviously not impossible).

I like to think of the way in which possible futures are as a rope being made. You have a consistent strand of past and the future is an array of threads going each and every direction. Eventually you come to the present where all of the threads and strands are being manipulated into one solid core. Thus in my mind, possible futures are those threads shooting off in every direction, where quite possibly things could end up, but they eventually get pulled away from their path due to present events (aka where the rope is being made).

I think chances are Kryta will never rule over Orr. Kryta has waaaaaaaay too many problems to deal with already to add colonizing a new nation to the list. I would think that if humanity claimed it at all, it would end up being more of a selected leader taking people without stripping the seraph of their fighting force and colonizing the land that way. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a few human settlements pop up, but there is very little chance that, should humanity be the only interested party, a solid government and human nation would arise within the time-period that we’ll see.

that said, the watchknights can’t be purely mechanical, because that would be impossible (have you SEEN the size of a mechanical computer? and those can’t store nearly enough bytes to run an AI), so they definitely have some magic imbued into them. question is what kind of magic, and how.

It seems pretty obvious that mesmer magic holds some sort of control over the Watchknights, although they are not controlled by one mind though. Some mechanical devise seems to control them somehow (based on “Mysterious Stranger”’s attempt to take them over).

Narcemus.1348

I may be wrong, as I still consider myself very new to the ring when it comes to debating GW lore (I have spent years reading and absorbing, but many times the information was incorrect or speculation), but in my mind the existence of Celestial beings seen in Cantha seems to point towards there being something more to what we consider Outer Space that we have IRL. Now I am not stating that there is no solar system, moon, sun, etc, but at the same time I am not opposed to the idea that Tyria itself is just a large realm within the Mists (and the sky we see is instead perhaps other realms/fractals/etc). At the very least, I believe we can all agree that outer space is, in some way, different from the outer space that we know just because, should it be similar, collections of stars separated by millions of light years somehow hold the souls of humans (and possibly other creatures) in the form of celestial beings. Similarly a star born is supposed to point to an ED rise even though, should RL physics come into play, it would take millions of years for the light of that star to reach Tyria.

Something is different, something.

This is definitely an interesting thought. Sadly we do not know if the forgotten had anything to do with the creation of the bloodstone or if they were kept in the black. Part of me thinks it was more of a “In case of failure, Break Glass” fail safe in case the first “pact” failed for the seers. This would explain how the bloodstone quite possibly caused the war between the seer and mursaat races, although that’s theoretical. If the Mists were wholly immune to the effects of Elder Dragon Corruption, it would make for a real killer to some of the forums theories on how Elder Dragons would effect them Mists.

"Zhaitan" was not dead, an interesting theory

in Lore

Posted by: Narcemus.1348

Narcemus.1348

I have 2 theory :
1) By killing Zhaitan, we killed the body but his mind and magic were transfered somewhere so he could recover for another round some millenia later.

So a similar process to how a Lich normally operates? Kill the body but don’t destroy the item that anchoring their spirit to this realm they will recreate it sometime later, preferably after you or whomever stopped them died of old age so they can continue their work without interference.

I do not feel that so far in the GW universe Liches seem to work this way. It seems instead that it is almost a process of destroying the body and then the soul over and over again until the attachment is lost. This was the way in which Fendi Nin was killed, and a somewhat similar process was used to kill the Lich Lord. We destroyed his body and it seems part of his soul went into the Soul Batteries which powered the Door of Komalie, and we continued this process until he stayed dead.
