Yes, I fully meant that we jump back in time, perhaps somehow a few months after her, so she has already had the Golems under construction. Then our characters capture her, and learn our plan. We are about to stop the plan when an priory person peeps in and states that this actually happened and the problem was taken care of safely, and that we have to leave NOW! We pop back, no problems.

I like to think of it this way. In Arah explorable there is a bloodstone shard. Now obviously it is a shard, not a full bloodstone, but still, there should be a lot of magical potential found within it, yet it was not consumed by Zhaitan. I like to think that if the Seers planned to put all of Tyria’s magic in 1 location, they had plans for keeping the ED’s from consuming that 1 thing.

Sorry if someone else brought it up before, but doesn’t this whole Scarlet situation remind you guys of anything? I mean my fellow GW1 players here. There used to be an asuran golemancer whose name was Zinn, who helped the Shining Blade in the krytan civil war, but before that he was actually used to try to kill Salma and Emperor Kisu and Prince Bokka right with her.
Zinn was basically held hostage by a mysterious figure that ordered him to build powerful golems, which in turn would kill their respective targets. All human royality.
We never found out who the person was behind this attempted assassination, however some believe he was also involved with the White Mantle, as an equally mysterious person comanded some WM forces in the Maguuma Jungle.

This is suspiciously similar to what’s going on right now. Either Anet is kinda lazy and they recycle the story… or the two incidents are connected. Now I know, Scarlet seems to be a Sylvari, a species only 26 years old, so how could she possibly have something to do with events that happened about 250 years ago?
Well, time-travel. If the steam creatures can travel from the future into GW2’s time, that certainly means it’s possible to travel into GW1’s time too. Wouldn’t it be cool if we prevent Scarlet’s plot now and she travels back in time and tries to kill the human royals in GW1’s time, only to be stopped again by our old toons?

Only if they let our GW2 characters jump back in time to hunt her down and take her out of the picture around the same time that our GW1 characters take out Zinn’s golems

Thing is, Cantha’s Xenophobia at times has gone to the extent of looking at peoples that differ from themselves (Am Fah, Jade Brotherhood, Luxons, Kurzicks) as evil. Just because all other races MAY have been kicked out (since there is always the chance that some races still try to survive outside of Cantha’s jurisdiction) doesn’t mean that they have necessarily forgotten the meaning of xenophobia.

I’m reminded of the ordeal with King Doric, who pleaded to the Gods because of all the wars that magic had brought. Maybe that is a possible result of having too much magic in the world. All races become too powerful, and start wars against each other.

How is this any different than the last two hundred fifty years? Charr been warring with humans, Norn been warring with Jotunn, and Asura been warring with Skirtt. It seems to me the wars didn’t stop when the gods took back the magic they gave to humanity it just gave them a means to resurrect the dead and to becoming walking artillery pieces rendering the slow and awkward catapults to be outdated.

It could be possible that the Elder Dragons keep Magic stable, as the Tyrian races understand magic, and without them the magic will ‘evolve’ into something similar to the Chaotic Magics found in the Thaumanova reactor. If this is true then the future of Tyria without the Elder Dragons will only see a decrease of magic users, as it will now require extensive research and training to be able to focus the chaotic magical energy into desired effect. We’ll see heavy investments into technology and the world might even become similar to Shadowrun or other settings where science and magic co-exist with one another, just science will be more prevalent than magic in this case.

The difference here was the amount of impact magic could have. In GW1 it was hinted that the effects of magic were massive. That slaughter, quite possibly at the level of the Searing, were happening on a constant basis at the command of a few casters. Now, slaughter based on magic is reduced to a few dozen at a time compared to possibly thousands.

The problem is, by moving in closer they would have lost the advantage of the choke points at the entryways. Thus each individual could have been much more easily surrounded and killed off. From what I can tell, it was just a moment of no one else hearing that Caithe had been overrun, and thus they were not able to fall back and assist in time. It was an all around bad situation, but strategy wise, I’m not sure there was a much better way.

I do hope for certain that when we eventually go into the Crystal Desert that we will have a chance to visit the old Lair of the Dragon and pay our respects to the BEST asura ever.

Well, I would agree that the Elder Dragons see what they are doing to the land as purifying it rather than corrupting it. Various dialogues, specifically from the Sovereign Eye of Zhaitan, point to this. I guess the question stands as what is corrupted and what is not. From the standpoint of the players though, hands down, the complete and total stealing of the will and forcing into servitude counts as corruption and evil.

Narcemus.1348

All I have to say is, the bloodstone held all the magic not corrupted by Elder Dragons at a time similar to now. I mean, obviously we do not know how much magic an Elder Dragon could consume, but I think it would be sufficient to say that if we kept magic exactly as full as it is now, and then stored away whatever is held by the remaining Elder Dragons at this moment the magic held in the world would probably be fine. Now I cannot say that the Bloodstone can hold all of that, it is merely speculative, but something like this would give an organization like the Pact a reason to stick around once the Elder Dragons are over and done with. To protect, at all costs, the dam which holds back the eventual destruction of Tyria. Honestly though, do you think that just letting all the magic held by the Elder Dragons run a muck would be a better solution? In all honesty there is no good solution, you just, most likely, have to chose the better of two evils.

Here’s thinking in context of a possible way to control magic in Tyria without Elder Dragons, The Bloodstone! I mean think about it, it was created to take all non-Elder Dragon magic and hold it away to starve them out. Who’s to say that it couldn’t be pieced back together (after long and dangerous storyline to find all of the pieces) and used as a sponge or a dam in order to control the level that magic reaches within the world of Tyria.

EDIT: I understand that the purpose of the Bloodstone would have to be changed slightly, but I do think that with some proper know how (and perhaps some delving into Seer history) we could figure out how to make it do what we want it to do.

Okay, look. You know those players who are just so ridiculously stubborn that they’ll lie around forever instead of waypointing, even in the most remote or hazardous places, because someone might find and revive them?

His body might be gone, but you’ll never convince me some part of him isn’t still waiting out there. He did mentor Zojja, so he can’t have any shortage of patience…and with a mind like that, he’s probably not even bored.

So there’s no need to despair. Once that area opens up to players, someone will notice the “defeated ally” mark on their minimap and go get him. (I doubt the immediate area is as enemy-saturated as it was during the event.)

Erm… Zojja cremated his remains… And places a jar of his ashes in his old lab… Not sure how you “revive” from that…

“You survived. I’m pleased. When I return to Kryta, I shall say that heroes still exist in the world. But first, there is another place I must go… a little city called Arah…” (Livia during the Epilogue of EotN)

While we can’t say for sure that Livia really did go to Arah we can’t rule it out either, or that she found the scepter there (although i do see no reason why Glint should have returned the scepter to Orr, as a former Elder dragon champion, and with Zhaitan resting there).

Yes, good point. While it would not make sense for Glint to send the scepter there, we can’t rule it out either. All we know is that at some point Livia does find the Scepter of Orr somewhere, and for some reasons prolongs her life and stays youthful (which may not even be related to her finding of the scepter).

Keep in mind that during the time of Guild Wars 1, Arah is at the bottom of the ocean, with only minor charred islands full of undead that remain above water. The waters are treacherous, and no one in their right mind would sail there. So if the Scepter of Orr was send back to Arah, then it would either have to be above water on one of the islands, or in some sort of sealed underground chamber, or Livia visited Orr after it was raised back from the bottom of the sea. Although with Zhaitan and his minions, it wouldn’t make much sense for her to go there without a large army to protect her.

I hope this is clarified at some point in future story content. It would be nice to see Livia again.

I do have to state, we do not know for a fact that anyone, Glint included, knew that Zhaitan was below Arah. I mean Arah was where she was freed, why would the Forgotten do it there if there was an Elder Dragon present? And though Glint has the ability to sense the minds of others, it could well be that other Elder Dragons are immune to her ability.

Because of this, it could be that putting the Scepter of Orr back in Arah was merely a way of keeping it in a safe place. Obviously her lair would have been a safer location, but perhaps having the knowledge that Kralkatorrik would eventually come for her kept her from placing it there, in hopes that he wouldn’t get his teeth around such a magically potent object. Idk, I think I’m to the point of rambling, lol.

Well, I will tell you that it looks, IMO, like Canthan text. Sadly, I don’t know very much when it comes to the languages of Tyria, and what I could find online didn’t have anything like that. Canthan text had a bit of a pictogram style to it, thus you could somewhat see the meaning by seeing what it looks like, but it wouldn’t be necessarily fact without the actual translation.

Narcemus.1348

For all intents in purposes, Kralkatorrik “could” be at the end of the Dragonbrand. No one has proof that he didn’t return when his enemies left. That said it is as much speculation as anywhere else mentioned in this topic. Heck, if they scared him enough he might be well past the blood legion lands all the way in the east. I mean who knows what goes through the mind of an “eternal being” when they look death straight in the eye (and it looks like Rytlock, lol). That being said, Mouth of Torment and Tomb of Primeval Kings are both great places to gain access to magic. I mean I would personally see the mists themselves as a large source of magic which seems to have some sentience (creating and destroying what it sees), what about that wouldn’t seem delectable to an Elder Dragon. Nothing we’ve seen so far points to any other race having the ability to travel through portals into the Mists (the mursaat ability did not appear to use portals, mainly just shifting your own body out into another state), thus this may be the first time for EDs to get that access either. There is a lot of stuff ArenaNet could do there (either through Kralky or Jormy).

Plus the Pavilion itself isn’t even an issue from what we are talking about, it is instead the Royal Plaza which took the location of the seraph arena. I am going to go out on a limb and say that the plaza is only a temporary thing, because I can’t even imagine why players would want to go into it after the living story changes over and the emphasis is elsewhere. I mean you have large areas built to be largely challenging to people in order to force them to re-think the way in which they fight. You have large one on one arenas where players can work their way up through the toughest of the tough foes in order to prove their worth. I mean there is just a lot of combat related stuff going on, i would think Balthazar would be proud that he got the entire district devoted to the canthans PAVED OVER in order to provide combat related opportunities.

I do wonder though, if the Grand High Sovereign would be a “Immediately recognized” character. I mean out of all 5 of my characters only 1 will ever play that instance (should I ever get around to playing on my Asura). It could be an interesting twist though if, perhaps, asura aren’t the only ones who have alter-egos that go for world domination… I mean if we connect the dots about the assumed power level difference between our characters and regular characters (legendaries like DE aside) it’s possible that any character could attempt world domination eventually (it is merely that asura seem the most likely due to their mad genius lifestyle). Whatever it is, I do hope that the individual keeps the story thoroughly interesting

Now you’ll have just under half of the playerbase, the majority of which have probably been around since GW1 days and spent more money on the game, feeling robbed of interesting content and an interesting character in the mix. When that large a number of your playerbase feels cheated by a slim majority, especially when the mechanics are in question, you’re going to have a lot of negative fallout just like in an actual “election”.

Not everyone who voted Kiel was a newbie who doesn’t know what’s going on in the game. Sometimes people who have been around since GW1 are tired of putting neutral grey/dark people in power. I voted by story, not by fractal.

If it would make him money Evon would burn down the whole of Lion’s Arch, lol. Ellen Kiel, always has the city at heart. #TeamKiel

You obviously didn’t read the lore behind Evon, how he brought trade, rather than bloodshed, but no, you’re using racial charr stereotypes and what not. Evon has business at heart, trying to flourish the city of Lions Arch, why burn down their biggest trade hub? Just goes to show how educated Kiel’s supporters were.

So basically, Kiel’s supporters are uneducated and racist. It’s sad to see that the majority of the population are racists.

Which is funny because my main is a charr, lol. In fact, I’ve played my charr more than any other than a Sylvari. And truth be told I love their backstory, but here’s the catch.

1. He’s in it for the money. Whether or not he’s funding ash legion with it is speculative, but nonetheless that is where his heart is, not with the city of Lion’s Arch.

2. I do not believe he would burn down the city, but if it somehow provided him a boost to income, or as is speculated it was ordered by the ash legion, I do believe he would. His heart isn’t with the people, it is with coin. The only reason he did not follow his leader’s orders when it came to how to control Lion’s Arch was because of the fact that he is smart. He knew how to manipulate people and he went for it.

3. Also notable, not once did I bring up his race, so not sure how exactly that came across as racist, lol. But it doesn’t matter, because he lost so #KielWins

EDIT: I would also like to add that I am personally far more interested in the Fall of Abaddon fractal, but it’s okay peeps because I believe Colin stated that they may think about making the fractal anyways if rioters show up outside of their office demanding it :P

Yeah, talking about god forms, I saw Abaddon’s form change to be somewhat of a reflection of his personality. I mean the first description we have of him comes from a GW1 guide that I know Konig and a few others have posted a few times that talks about him holding a somewhat fair and possibly even handsome appearance. That being said, a lot of murals and images of him (some merely concept art) show him in a more demonic, mutated form. Now honestly, we do not know what exactly he looks like during the final fight against the gods, but I would guess his form may have changed, though not because of where he got his powers from, but instead what his personality is reflecting. It makes me think back to Lord of the Rings and Melkor/Morgoth and Sauron. These two originally had beautiful and fair forms, but eventually they grew so cruel and evil that they could no longer hold their forms in that state, and instead they reflected the personality within.

Some seem to have male or female like bodies, but they definitely do not have genders. Fire elementals have always had more female type bodies since GW1, and I believe it is because of the more sensual and curved body of the female fits better with the way in which flames work. In the same way earth elementals definitely take on the general shape of what would be considered male (broad chest, skinnier stomach) and it fits because of the more chiseled form of a man. So in other words, it’s basic aesthetics.

I have to agree with Aaron. I think the underwhelming value to Zhaitan is the fact that he is never personally involved with anything you do. I mean would Varesh have been an interesting enemy if all you ever saw in the cinematics was Morghan and Bayel talking and she just randomly appeared in the last mission (last Varesh involved mission anyways)? I think all it would really take was one very important life or area taken directly by the Elder Dragon (not by his minions, unless he had an interesting independent thinking champion that spoke for him, thinking Varesh again). Something of that caliber could give the players a personal vendetta against the dragon, a reason to want it dead and removed from the world. I personally think they should bring in some of the more interesting champion types like Morgus Lethe, rather than giant dragons. I personally find the Priests and Priestesses at the temples more interesting than the Tequatl’s just because they can speak and give us information, and use that to their advantage to give the players more reason to kill the Elder Dragons.

Yes Arkengel, that’s what I’m stating. The first humans to settle LA came from Elona. In elona there are Lions, so it was probably named by them, or was named later when King Doric took over the region, in which case it may be named by the association that Doric had with Elona, or perhaps it is just that there were lions in Kryta, but they later were either hunted to extinction or rather just died off due to climatic changes or something of the sort.

There are no definite answers, but there are enough possibilities that it is not a major problem.

The collapsed observatory is in a location that’s kind of an unknown. Looking at a comparison of the two maps, GW1 and GW2, I believe that the observatory was kind of southeast of the available area only just slightly. Looking at a GW1 map of Kessex Peak you can see a swamp area coming out of the only portal into the area, this looks very similar to what is now a river running down towards the observatory, which would make it bottom right hand corner. So either it was not on the map in GW1, or it was just slightly off map. In my mind, an observatory like that could quite possibly have been built to watch a certain pesky wizard who moved a certain tower to a certain village cough Isgarren cough

As for the lions, there are a few speculations. The most likely, IMO, is that the name is a reference to Elonians who first settled the region. There are lions in Elona.
