I’d have to agree on the reason-ability. I think the difficulty level on the mechanics of the fight and such are spot on. What I disagree with is the ratio of health to time limitation. I agree it should be a struggle, but when it requires armies that can only be brought about once in a blue moon, it is a fail. Nothing in the open world should fail 90% of the timeor more and be considered a success…

Generally speaking, practitioners of one profession won’t trade secrets with one person from another profession. That’s why Necromancers can’t make illusions of themselves, and Mesmers can’t raise the dead.

I would have to disagree here. Even though some people seem to think the bloodstones have no more effect on the world, I’m gonna stick to my guns and say that they are still making it so only certain people can do certain things, even if the lines are a little more blurred than they used to be.

Nothing says that Zhaitan is undead. Merely that he controls undead. My necromancer controls undead, but he is very much alive. His physical appearance doesn’t mean anything either, because we honestly don’t know anything about the physical characteristics of any elder dragon other than Zhaitan and a little about Kralkatorrik.

I do not believe the parts are forgotten at all, just unused because of Lost Shores. When Lost Shores came out players griped that they were making new zones without polishing up the zones they already have (rightly so as well), so they seem to have moved away from making new content in new zones and moved towards trying to improve what they already have while including content in the zones already available. I think the best way in which to make new zones available would be through an Expansion, not through the Living Story, due to the temporary nature of it. I want to be able to take all of my characters through these new zones and stories, but that will not be possible with the current way in which the Living Story is working. That is why I think expansion, not Living Story is the best method for including new permanent content.

On a sidenote, I wonder how the whole Living Story system will work when/if they make a new expansion. I mean I’m gonna need a month or more to get a character through, depending on the amount of content within the expansion, so am I gonna miss out on a lot of Living Story content because of my inability to follow along?

Pretty much you got a big reward in GW1 for first completing the mission, then you could do it again anytime you wanted to try for the bonus or something else. There was no reward for completing it a second time, minus monster drops, but it was worthwhile to be able to go back to nostalgic parts of the story once more. I agree. I had a crappy computer when I first started and had to play with lowest graphics and still a lot of lag. I would love to replay the personal story on my sylvari just so I can see it again with fresh eyes. That and he was my first and it’s been 1 year since I’ve seen the beginning of that…

It’s true, there only seems to be one object that I have ever seen that can cut a sylvari off from the Dream, and that is an Asura Gate. There is dialogue at the gates in Lion’s Arch where a sylvari states that she loses contact with the dream for just that one second. This is the only outward disconnect from the Dream that I’ve seen. Otherwise it seems to have to be the sylvari initiating the disconnect… Perhaps we have some inquest playing around with a younger tree and they thought disconnecting a sylvari could give them a living vegetable (mentally) to study?

Well BobbyStein (Hey Bobby, come visit us over here at the lore forums! We don’t bite, I promise!) just mentioned that Teq being stronger is all related to the overall LS arc at the moment, so I guess it is more than “ARG, I’m a big boy dragon now!”:

To be honest, I feel that this tequatl’s release makes for an excellent build up for something “dangerous” to come in the future. But based on your post, BobbyStein, it feels like there’s no story planned for this, and that the new details behind the new Tequatl are just marketing hype.

Maybe I wasn’t clear in my other post. Tequatl becoming stronger (and Rox being present) are both tied into the overall LW story. More will be revealed later.

^Actually there can be a lot of biting sometimes. But we still want you!!!!

I think the main reason I found myself enjoying War in Kryta is because I allowed myself to become swept up in the hype. I checked the websites daily for updates from Murro and waited daily for new bounties and such, anything to progress the story. I think this was another case of the out of game content being somewhat better than the content found within the game.

I thought hearts of the north was good for what it was intended to be, a transition. There wasn’t a big plot spoiler planned for it, it was a scenario where we knew A and C and we were just watching as B occurred.

Winds of Change, I thought, was spectacular (prolly doesn’t help that anything Factions related automatically gets 5 stars in my book… a bit biased). Yes, the first portion was slow, kill all afflicted, kill all afflicted, kill all afflicted, you get the idea. But what I found great about it was once you killed all the afllicted… THEY WERE GONE! And once the rest of the story filled in it was something I could really invest myself in. Was it perfect, heck no, but it was what I would consider some of the most top grade stuff ArenaNet has done.

From my memory, the Mad Realm is technically a portion of the Underworld, so congrats, if you went to the Mad Realm, you have been to a little bit of GW2’s Underworld, lol.

That being said, things have changed in the time of GW2. The veil between the Underworld and Tyria is a lot thinner than it was back in the day and portals are pouring out minions from the Underworld. I think with the proper understanding of magic, this process could be easily reversed and we could be allowed to enter ourselves. At least, the idea isn’t impossible.

I mean I do not remember the first time I talked or ate, but I still have these skills. If he was cut off from the Dream after this portion and was not allowed the latter portion of the Dream which could include more of the Wyld Hunt and such, then it is not impossible for his tree to have a Dream and have him cut off from it.

Yeah, to me the wording seemed to be “the Pact’s continued involvement in Orr could be to blame” This to me could fit the story anywhere between the end of the Battle for Claw Island (where they start creating Ft. Trinity in the background) and post-Zhaitan cleaning up his minions. I would say that this is all obviously post-Zhaitan, it is just worded as a way that it can be read as however the player wants to read it.

Yeah, I’d have to agree with Erukk. There’s nothing pointing to forbidden magic existing outside of magical artifacts. When it comes to people it seems more of a situation of forbidden acts. Verata’s spells were stronger than any other, but he got them by killing innocent people. The PC can also get access to these skills without killing innocent people. This humble necromancer was glad to kill Verata and be rid of the heretic. Necromancy is about balance between life and death, not about gaining power.

I mean I spent hours making my HoM look exactly how I wanted with the different monuments, heroes, everything laid out to look good. I didn’t expect to come into GW2 with a pristine Eye of the North or a pristine HoM. I kind of liked the idea of walking up and seeing the hero statues with maybe an arm missing or just weathering effects, my armor was somewhat rusted out, and the Oppressor’s Weapons that I filled my Weapons with would be a bit dingy. Perhaps even the mini-pets would be wandering around, no longer trapped standing in place. I mean it wouldn’t be a perfect HoM, but it would be yours. You would own it.

Okay, my personal opinion the situation would be kitten.

Chernobyl happens, bad stuff, must be evacuated. And for this situation we’re gonna say it took a large part of Soviet Russia (things are being somewhat edited to make it a more equivalent comparison). A few years later, with the land still uninhabitable, a coalition of french, english, and swedish scientists are able to come up with a way to cleanse the land. They then claim the land as Frengswiland and do not give it to Russia, because Soviet Russia has now fallen apart, and is not necessarily the nation that holds any claim over it anymore. Weird comparison. Very weird, and I honestly don’t even know if it holds any relevance anymore anyways, lol.

I think the idea of the Living Story is good. I loved the original Flame and Frost content, it kind of explained a bit of what came of the Flame Legion and Dredge post game content. I think the Living Story as expanding upon what was already in the game is a very good idea, but I’m not necessarily sold that the living story being all wrapped up under 1 name is as good. In my opinion, living story should be about continued fights from Icebrood, a resurgence in Branded, random invasions from destroyers, cleaning up after inquest, bandits, pirates, nightmare court, flame legion, dredge commanders, centaurs, ascalonian ghosts, ogres, etc…

There are enough conflicts in this world already to keep the world feeling alive until the point in which the next dragon is ready to be assaulted. We did not necessarily need to bring up new enemies (aetherblades), new monsters (twisted clockworks, Karka), or a head honcho (Scarlet) to make things right. In fact, I agree with Konig that it makes things more confusing for players who have not been involved with the earlier stuff, whereas having the living story be about the challenges of the world continuing to resurface or change slightly is much more interesting in my mind.

I also want to take a sidenote and mention that I love this current content, mainly because I thoroughly enjoy the SAB, but also because it is optional in my book. The Living Story stuff is not optional for me because my characters have to be involved and complete the story, which leaves me very little time to complete other stuff such as map completion, or startign new characters. This SAB was nice because if my friends wanted I could jump in, but overall it wasn’t a major story plot and was thus skippable otherwise. I would personally like to see more content like that in the game. Just small challenges or such which do not necessarily progress a story but are just fun new things in the world to enjoy.

And that is the end of my rant, lol.

The canthan district existed but was removed due to asian player outrage (apparently an asian city inside massive european walls calls out as showing european superiority or something similar). It became the Great Collapse, although nothing in game point to it being the Canthan District, instead the NPC’s call it the arts district. As to the orrians, we’ve been told in the past that those orrians that survived the cataclysm denied their heritage due to mainland kryta being attacked by undead orrians in GW1, and again by risen in GW2 (which were also hinted to have been the remains of GW1’s undead army). So Orrians exist, and in an interview Ree played with the idea of an Orrian noble with claim to the throne popping up and leading a group to colonize Orr now that Zhaitan’s dead. This states that it is a possibility, but not necessarily what WILL happen.

You’re kidding right?

This franchise, thanks to the input of Jeremy Soule, has some of the best music of the MMO crop.

The problem is that you’ve heard it all before, as no boss has unique music.

Furthermore, the music you’ve listed is decent, but still nothing special in that it sounds like formulaic JRPG battle music.

I loves those games too, but you’re having a nostalgia attack. You want to FEEL like you did when you heard this music, which is why the music is meaningful to you, not because it’s great music.

Are you kidding? Jeremy Soule can’t do anything different, I swear I can’t listen to guild wars 2 music as it’s the same thing as the elder scrolls and I’ve gotten sick of that games music. I’d gladly take old jrpg music at this point.

I would have to greatly disagree, but you would have to listen to Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall, Eye of the North, and GW2 in order to see that there is a very wide range of things this composer can do. You are very limited in what you are judging.

If Orr is ever cured, who will inhabit it?

Narcemus.1348

I see two scenarios here. Obviously there are hundreds people could pull out, but in my mind there are two very likely scenarios.

1) Kryta buys the rights to Orr. Obviously most likely not by money (at least not fully by money), but by cementing themselves in an alliance with the Pact. Giving them a debt most likely not to be paid off until ALL of the Elder Dragons are dead. In this scenario, all of Kryta’s army that is not necessary to defend their lands would be used to defend Pact interest, similarly with any human technology which could be useful in the effort. I mean if the engineers can fix the override created by Scarlet, Watchknights would be a very effective fighting force against dragons like Jormag who can control minds, much like asura golems would be.

2) No one is able to purchase the rights to take on the debt to the Pact, so the Pact clears out and the land is just up for settlement. In this scenario, it is similar to a scenario I brought up earlier where IMO the 2 biggest populations would likely be human and sylvari (of the playable races). I could see some asura krewes coming in to study the temples/cathedrals, but I just cannot see the logical reason of large amounts of charr or norn coming down. I think they might exist, but it seems likely that their populations would be much lower than the rest. I understand people like the idea of the charr having naval access to the sea, but it seems like a big stretch of resources and logistics, and we all know that the charr do not trust the use of asura gates, because they aren’t fully under their own control.

Narcemus.1348

I would agree that the Pact may put a price tag on Orr. But we do have to wonder what the full backing of the kingdom of Kryta would be worth to the Pact. I mean so far Kryta has given a few soldier here and there, but with the centaurs pushed back into the furthest portions of their lands they can likely give some of their manpower and technology (especially if watchknights become once more viable). And the nation would most definitely be indebted to them.

If Orr is ever cured, who will inhabit it?

in Lore

Posted by: Narcemus.1348

Narcemus.1348

No, I do not believe that the humans who would go to Orr would bow to Kryta, I do not believe this at all. I find it highly unlikely that Kryta would be able to spare any of it’s military in order to defend a colonization of a new human nation in Orr. More than likely it would be a situation where Queen Jennah gives people to opportunity to move to Orr should they wish, with the blessing of the crown. This would mean, if they so wished, Seraph and other portions of the military could leave of their own accord without deserting. I also never believed that it would be completely 100% human in population. I know for a fact that krewes of asura would wish to study artifacts, shrines, etc. Figure out how the magic connects Cathedrals to Shrines, etc… to further their magical studies. Sylvari would also be interested in staying in the land in order to further the cleansing/regrowth, and I do not believe that any human nation that arose would deny them access (of course should they be careful and respectful of what they are working with). I do not personally see why the norn would have any interest in the land though. They definitely do not seem to enjoy warmer climates (as seen in Southsun Cove) and once the risen army is defeated (which is likely to be the case before colonization becomes possible) there would be little for them to hunt. As for the Charr, they have no connection to the land when it comes to heritage, in fact going back there would most likely be putting salt on the wound when it comes to them having been pushed down there by their previous gods. Plus they have many, many lands they need to control and many enemies they need to defeat. Plus which Legion would claim control of the land? I doubt it would be a unified charr district, and any legion would have major logistical issues with maintaining control. I know Asura Gates are available, but let’s be honest. Charr hate depending on technology which is not under their control, and they further do not trust the asura, seeing how they have rigged the entire gate bridge in the Black Citadel to blow at even the slightest notion of invasion from outside.

My personal opinion is that the land would remain under human governance for the most part. This is my opinion and nothing you can say will change it. That said, I think the second highest population level will probably be Sylvari, which I highly doubt any humans would fight. And the third highest population, which would be rather low, would be asura research krewes. I can think of no reason charr or norn would want to be there, short of war efforts. But overall this population would remain under a human government whose ties with the Krytan throne are probably just based on common race. I understand many of you disagree, think we should have another council of somethingorothers, but I personally cannot see the logical reason for most other of the races to try and CONTROL the land.

@Dustfinger:
If someone stole your property, the police caught the person, and then distributed it amongst themselves would you be very happy? I understand it isn’t a perfect analogy, but where you seem to think that “flippantly” handing it back to the people who have connections to it would be an issue, I personally think that “flippantly” handing it over to anyone and everyone that wants it would be more of a smack in the face of humanity than anything else. The Pact may be strong, but they rely on the resources of the nations/organizations. We know that the Pact are using Charr tanks, and also at least some manpower that used to be seraph (which at the moment we assume was allowed into the pact, rather than that they deserted their people in order to fight). The Pact has to keep friendly with those who support them, they would fall apart otherwise.

What I am stating is, a single organization holding claim to, at the very least, Orr, the Far Shiverpeaks and the depths of tyria, with other land holdings being possibly the Crystal Desert (unless kralky went somewhere else) and the Maguuma Jungle (if that is where Mordremoth is). Do you not think that a single organization holding so much land and ruling so many people (assuming they create multi-racial nations in each zone) would seem like a threat to the much smaller racial nations?

Plus what does the Pact become post Elder Dragon? I mean killing the Elder Dragons was their reason for being created, but after the dragons are gone, minions are dead, and corruption is cleansed what do they become. Do they become Tyria’s Guardians? If so what are they guarding against? Are they controlling the politics of the other nations, because I know a few races that would grate against this (charr and human, strangely on the same side for once, lol). I just don’t see a situation where the Pact continues without leading to concequences. The smartest position IMO is for the pact to return the lands they reconquer to the people they conquered it from (I’m sure the quaggan would like to have their homes back as well) and after the dragons are dead it should dissolve back into it’s component parts, lest it risks becoming something like the Ministry of Purity.

I’d leave it in the hands of whatever coalitions actually reclaimed it. Considering it was them who did the work. And considering that the items will be treated with dignity since many of those species are represented within the coalitions.

Do you not see how this would lead to future wars? I mean the Pact is a necessity at the moment due to the continued existence of the Elder Dragons, but what happens when the Elder Dragons are all dead. In this moment you would have a massive military alliance which holds claims to large swaths of land all over Tyria. Even minus backing from the Orders (assuming they bow out after the fight is done) this would be a threat in the eyes of many, charr specifically just based on their outlook on the world.

Should any nation other than humanity lay claim onto Orr they would set a precedent for others claiming their own lands – the Norn have lost their ancestral lands, and so do the Asura. The Sylvari ethics would surely not allow them to simply claim another species’ ancestral land (some of them settling there, if interested, is another point), which leaves the Charr (which, due to their history and behaviour i do not count among civilized nations).

I will point out here that charr behavior is honestly not much more brutal than human behavior in the past. I mean PC’s in GW1 used to run around wearing the skins of they charr they killed as armor just to taunt the race. The war lead to inconceivably brutal and savage acts on BOTH sides. (See I can side with the charr on some subjects)

Kryta hasn’t shown any interest in Orr, so it will most likely be the Pact that will decide over the future of Orr, by making an active decision (which will most likely open Orr for every species) or by simply preventing pirates from claiming Orr and leaving it open for claims. And from which nation would those come? None has shown any interest in it.

I also want to point out that Kryta hasn’t really had a chance to show any interest in Orr. Throughout the time that we had access to Krytan storyline, Orr was an impossible situation anyways. It wasn’t until the lvl 70+ storyline that reclaiming Orr seemed to be a real possibility, and any Krytans who have the power to show interest are only seen as high as maybe lvl 50. And the living story does not count to much at this moment because of it’s total disconnect from the Personal Story. Making it after Zhaitan, but completely ignoring the actions of the Personal Story so as not to create problems (which is a problem).

What makes a god a true god in the Guild Wars universe is what I bolded – their power.

But that’s just the thing, you consider them “true” gods because you buy into the kool-aid, as it were. You accept the human-centric viewpoint that their gods are special and better than the gods worshipped by the other races. They are stronger, in some cases, but there’s no definitive evidence that they are in any way more special than just being very powerful beings. If nothing else, they seem to be weaker than the Elder Dragons, at least, so would that make the Dragons gods above gods? How many accounts of the immaculate divinity of the human gods come from those who do not in any way worship them?

I do want to point out that during the time period when GW2 was in development I read multiple time that the Elder Dragons are AT the same level of power as the Six, not that they are above. The lack of influence by the gods could be completely unrelated to the Elder Dragons, such as why the humans left their homeland in the first place, or because of the devastation that could be caused world wide if such a titanic battle were to occur. Similarly, based on what I see in game (this is mostly opinion) the Six seem to be much more powerful than most of the other gods we see in game. It took 4 Spirits of the Wild to slow down Jormag so the norn could move south. The grawl worship rocks, fall in love with harpies, and half the time are under the influence of asura tech. And the “Unseen Ones” (Mursaat) were wiped out by an army of vengeful spirits (Titans) which we, the PC, were able to wipe out ourselves. The “power” behind the mursaat was that they had a single spell that could devastate almost any individual, which was pretty much nullified by infusions by the seers. Otherwise they were very weak and fleshy (Just ask the mursaat in Ice Floe… Oh wait, they’re all dead, lol).

Is there dialogue actually stating that they STOLE pact airships, and not that the nearby Inquest in Orr didn’t just steal the blueprints to the airships and start creating their own armada? I would think the Pact would definitely be a bigger driving force in wiping out the Aetherblades if they physically stole half of the Pact’s fleet.

Dhuum cannot be killed. Grenth has tried, and he was a demi-god, born with a power domain himself supposedly (ice and sorrow). This is something that not even Zhaitan can do. The closest thing to being able to do such is a lich, but even they can be killed – you just have to be… creative about it.

Dhuum can control death; Abaddon’s knowledge gets passed down to Kormir. It seems to me that the Six Gods have absolute powers in their own specific mantle/domain – just like humanity claims, according to Kerrsh.

Has there been a lore mention that I have not heard of? Last I had heard there was speculation that perhaps Grenth WOULD not kill Dhuum because of his morals or some such thing. Plus wasn’t one of his attributes judgement? Or am I mixing him up with post “godhood”.

Fine. As long as the charr, norn, and asura are willing to give 1/5th of their ancient heritage for humanity to do whatever it wants with (including bull dozing and rebuilding) go for it. And don’t say that the charr won’t bull doze human shrines by the dozens to clear land for use.

I honestly don’t see why you think there will be 5-6 multi-racial nations working in unison with the already existing 5-6 racial nations without any resulting wars. All I know is, I’m glad you guys aren’t in charge of the end result.

Plus Drakkon, don’t pretend you are calling for the multi-nation route. 90% of your arguments have been for full charr control of the territory (when they already have more land mass than any other existing race.)

How were they able to take that giant tooth with them, with Jormag still alive and kicking? I mean, look at that thing. It’s huge!

He used Ox like a pack mule to carry it back. The spirit collapsed of exhaustion shortly afterwards and has been sleeping in the Mists to regain his strength since then.

^At least we know they have thought at least a little about subjects like Grenth, being as the whole lore on him being a Demi-God comes from GW2, and not GW1. I’m just hoping that they plan on filling out these new pieces of lore they added to the game.

Your blood got spilled to make a red post. I told you, but you wouldn’t listen. You need to respect the largos assas-

If this was true, I would be willing to sacrifice myself multiple times for additional red posts

My point is. Each nation has zones effected that will most likely be returned to them. The main current exceptions are charr and sylvari. Charr still have a huge swath of land that will be cleansed though, and the sylvari don’t really have “claim” to anything, nor do try to. So why, when most every race would get their land back, are we not willing to give the human land back to the humans? Well, plain and simple, because the people on this forum just don’t seem to like humans, lol. (obviously minus those sticking up for human kind.)

Okay, I got on here and was super excited to see that there was an actual dev response in the lore forum! I was also super excited to see it was in here and it was a friendly response (compared to the relative nasty mood thus far). I personally found the information given by Angel to be very useful in further understanding the past. I do not honestly know where the conversation on this topic is now, because I did not want to read all of the wall-o-text responses (I think I stopped after 30 minutes of reading). But I find the information given to be in line with lore, and to make a lot of sense with piecing together the questions of the past.

Oh yes, Kralky was cranky after the events of Edge of Destiny. He went up there and stomped the whole region into a massive nasty branded zone. The Blood Legion packed up and built up a new citadel in the zones to the east that they also own (note I am only talking the Blood Legion Homelands we see in game. It is stated their lands go further east). So the Blood Legion still have lands, a citadel, and so on. They just can’t EVER return to their homelands because the NORN own it now! MUAHAHAHAHA!

My opinion was never that any of the Lieutenants would become an Elder Dragon, persay. My opinion was that his power would channel into his minions, making them stronger and stronger. This makes it even more imperative that we finish off the risen for good, otherwise we will have some really strong enemies in the future, even if they aren’t the strength of an Elder Dragon. Something like this could very honestly be a part of the next part of the story before we move on to the next elder dragon. I mean we still have the cleansing of Orr.
