Yup, pretty much given up all hope. Thalador consider me on your band wagon. From here on out the Lore Slayer must be stopped.
All I know is I will not be happy until the Lore Slayer has been Slain!
I personally have no problem with the idea that the Nightmare Court would ally with the Krait. I mean this fits very well with the mentality of the Nightmare Court, cause pain and suffering anywhere and everywhere, but I will never believe that the Krait would ally with the Nightmare Court. I’m sorry ArenaNet, but you’ve taken this fragile glass vase that we call the “Lore of Guild Wars” and you’ve thrown it on the ground, shattering everything. I sign the petition for the immediate execution of the Lore Slayer. In fact, I would be willing to make a deal. Many of you know how vehemently I despise Palawa Joko… Well I would be willing to let him live through the entirety of the timeline of GW2 as long as it means that the Lore Slayer gets destroyed in the most violent ways possible.
Their goals are to kill all land dwelling creatures and hope that their prophet returns to sink the land under one giant ocean which they control… I don’t see how a “land dweller” could give them that…
I wonder, does ArenaNet think it’s impossible for one evil race to just do evil things without being in cahoots with every other evil race/group?
As to what Aaron was talking about, the idea of the Fervid Censor coming back into the story is actually the first thing I thought when I saw the video. The top of the tower, in some shots, almost looks like an enlarged Censor. IDK how they would have gotten it, but it makes sense that they would use it to spread fear. I mean we can see from the effect it has on the Karka that it has some possible mind altering side effects. In my mind, I’m honestly thinking of the Scarecrow from Batman…
I pray you are wrong Konig, because I don’t want to lose my 20 gold…
I do believe that Frozenwind says that all deaths in the Underworld empower Dhuum, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s true. It could be that it is what Konig said, and all nearby deaths empower him (and that we’re just limited to a portion of the Underworld that is within that proximity) or that Frozenwind was just being safe by saying all deaths instead of trying to set up parameters.
Konig, you have to admit that even if it was 60 airships the Pact would probably be out for blood. I mean how many airships do we ever see in the skies? 100 maybe… Even stealing 10 really puts a damper on their war effort, and on top of that after capturing a ship back their allies in LA end up just keeping the airship and giving it off to Ellen Kiel? Not very friendly is it?
Not to mention the fact that the Aetherblades are allied to the Inquest, and I’m pretty certain that a bunch of pirates aren’t creating the ships, but they are instead most likely getting them from their Inquest allies (I refuse to believe that they stole thousands of pact airships without the pact wanting some retaliation against them).
And a week has practically come and gone and there has been no response. We can all take it to heart that they truly do not care that they screwed us out of the completion.
If the Mists are Scarlet’s subconscious mind, then that would make the Dream… Scarlet’s Dream?! Thus before Scarlet was born… Wow…. She was a part of her own subconsciousness which came to life…. That is some loop.
IMO, the idea of krait as a playable race seems very unlikely just based on the opinion that ArenaNet had created for them originally. I remember reading about their thoughts on the krait as being a fully black race, mainly un-redeemable. Now, I don’t personally see them as any more “un-redeemable” than the charr were in GW1, but at the same time I don’t think it makes sense, based on what we’ve seen of them, that they would join the good guys. It just seems hardly in their personality, and no more likely than Scarlet pulling the strings of the krait in this next story
@Konig
You forgot to add that Scarlet was the one that created the Pale Tree seeds. So, in the end, she winds up being her own grandmother.
Great Scott! She created a time paradox, the results of which could cause a chain reaction that would unravel the very fabric of the space time continuum, and destroy the entire universe! Granted, that’s a worst case scenario. The destruction might in fact be very localized, limited to merely our own galaxy.
No, worse case scenario would be that the devastation seeps into the mists and destroys all things.
I would like to point out here that warrior could also follow bear and the teamwork aspect of wolf could be followed by any profession really. There is lots of free space.
I think Kodan could be playable if they revoked the “only polar bears” mentality. If we could have brown, black, grizzly, and polar there would be room for personalization, but as is, not much.
I think what Konig is trying to state is that Malyck doesn’t have a dream to prevent his tree from staying “corrupted” and yet his personality aligns more with the Dream sylvari than the Nightmare Court. This seems to point more towards the trees NOT being minions/champions of a dragon.
Many, I never saw much of the alpha stuff. I didn’t know the game existed until Eye of the North had already been released, but I’m glad they took a different route with the game design back then.
I had always personally thought that the creatures looked like a fleshy type of gargoyle (although I do not remember if it was officially stated whether they were made of stone or not). And there are other volcanoes in Tyria. I know we do not know this, but the Isle of Janthir looks like it is a similar set of islands as the ring of fire, and similarly we know that Hrangmer is in some area that we never seemed to visit. I don’t think that this really holds any pertinence to the game at hand, but the place may have existed.
Seriously, something like that would be almost the perfect thing to really get her under the player’s skins, although that would lead to a very branched/varied story for the players. I know if I learned that she had kidnapped Dinky or Deborah or perhaps Malyck/White Stag in order to get under my character’s skin there could be some real motivation in the fight finally.
I think that either could make sense based on the mentality of your guardian. Raven could possibly also make sense if worked through correctly, although I would say that leopard would be a stretch.
You see Konig, the people were complaining about being too cold during the winter, so he decided that “If you build a man a fire he is warm for a while, if you set a man on fire he’s warm for the rest of his life”. Well the fire caught waaaay to well and pretty much wiped away any proof that this village ever existed. So he decided it was only best that he just remove it’s name from history, seeing as the city had already been removed anyways.
+1 Props

Hit it a few times and make it into Crystalline Dust. I could use a bit more of that… ;P
Wasn’t it stated once that the krait didn’t necessarily “build” the obelisks but instead “found” them and started worshipping? I could swear this was said once in an early release on the krait. If this was the case then there could have been one that no one knew about in that lake. Time buries things, like Elder Dragons. It’s not hard to believe one could have been buried in a lake in a relatively mountainous area (thinking back to GW1 kryta). Landslides and such.
Honestly, and it hurts me to say this (very deep inside) Palawa Joko was a great villain. The hate I have is based on ArenaNet’s decision to not allow me to kill him. That said, he could be brought back into the game to accomplish great things.
Lets not forget the Eye of the North.
I would include the origins of the Eye of the North in my portion about the history of the last Dragon Rise and the races of that time. If the Eye of the North pre-dates even that, then I’d be very intrigued.
Yeah, Thorn talks about skinning, burning alive, and all that fun stuff in GW1 all the time. It never hurt the rating because it was never actually done.
I do want to note that my original 20 gold was to Scarlet not pulling the Krait’s strings, as in leading them like every other enemy. I will still hold up to 20 gold to her not being involved at all, though my bet was with Thal, and I can only really afford to pay 1 person that 20 gold, not everyone :P
I agree that anyone and everyone will likely fall to corruption after so much time, effort, etc, etc… The thing is they can be saved from the situation. If we had gotten there moments earlier in HotW we could have brought the Voice away from the constant oppression of corruption and she might have survived many more years. As long as you fight the corruption, you are still free of it. But once your will breaks, it is over.
Heck, for all we know Thorn blind folded him, gagged her, put the nail and hammer in his hands, and told him to go for it. I wouldn’t put it past the man. I mean he admits he was bored of that wife and his son loved her so much…
The only connection between the dream and gate technology that I know of is that as a sylvari crosses a gate, they lose connection to the dream for just a second. It is one of the dialogues in Lion’s Arch. I don’t know if this is for all sylvari, but it is an interesting thing to note (though I do not know it’s relevance to the topic on hand).
I would agree with that. It is really a measure of not only mental strength, but also stamina. Eventually, under too much duress, you will fail. We can see this happen in the Honor of the Waves story with the Voice. Joining Jormag wasn’t her choice, but under so much duress she finally caved and was consumed.
I’d bet 50g, but I don’t have it, lol. (I farm a lot, but I’m also pretty loose with my wallet on buying stuff). I’m a safe better anyways I’ll go 20g. I’m pretty certain in my belief of this, but Thal, if you are correct I will not only cough up the 20g, but I’ll also join the “Nothing good can come of the LS now that Scarlet’s involved” band wagon.
I actually agree with Obsidian in much of what he has stated (OMG Crazy!)
I think technology has gone rampant in Tyria, it is just insane. In months we’ve gone from prototype subs and helicopters to megalaser wielding airships. The kind of magitech that I had hoped for from this game was something closer to the ideas of items such as the Golem Eye in Ghosts of Ascalon. It was a piece of tech that used necromancy to create a fearsome and awesome golem out of the remains surrounding it. The idea promotes magic first and foremost. Heck, even the asura we read of in Edge of Destiny used magic a heck of a lot more frequently. Klab was trying to fly by enchanting dozens of pieces of dandelion fluff together. Some of this magitech would be much more interesting IMO than megalasers, laser guns, magic cannons, etc…
As to the way in which they have treated human history. I think that in some sense, the idea of subjective truth is a valid means of treating the situation, I would like to see more in the way of subjective viewpoints as well. There should, and could, be points in history that are truth, and we should see more about how the other races perceive this truth, and thus gain more insight into their culture, beliefs, religions, etc.. as opposed to making their perspective on the situation the correct one and the old perspective wrong. I just think there are ways that they could have stepped around the lore and given it both greater depth and width simultaneously, as opposed to giving it greater width while shallowing it.
I would side with Aaron. I think that if Scarlet is involved with the krait there has been a major breach of the currently standing lore. The Krait are unrelenting, and similarly, from what I can tell, they have very little to offer Scarlet anyways. I find it a much more interesting idea that at least one villainous group (maybe two with inclusion of centaurs) are un-involved with her.
Don’t worry Konig, I don’t see it either. I think people are trying to dig deeper than there is any reason to. I am interested though to see more about the krait, and perhaps dig a little deeper than the freakin Witch’s dialogues…
^Konig actually did write something like this. You probably just couldn’t find it because, as many people state, the Search feature on this forum stinks. His basic thought was much like you stated. That sylvari’s physical form is immune to corruption, but this does not mean that their mental state is. Now we have not seen a sylvari corrupted by Jormag (which if this was true could be a possibility) but this may be because Jormag’s corruption always eventually creates a physical change, and as is stated in game multiple times, once physical corruption takes root in sylvari they merely die instead of converting. Another option being that, there just haven’t been much sylvari going up that way except with the direct motivation to fight Jormag.
I do want to argue something that you state though. I do believe that people have a choice as to whether they follow Jormag or not. I think this is most apparent in the story of Jora and Svanir. Both were offered Jormag’s power and she fought against it while he accepted it. Jora payed a price for her fighting Jormag’s grip (losing her bear form for a while), but nonetheless she won. I believe that it seems like joining under Jormag’s banner is a choice, but once you have made this choice your mind is no longer your own. It is like fighting a mental war. Once the Jormag gets into your mind he is rooted there and it is lost to you. I would say the same is true of the Nightmare Court, and the way that they are treated. Their torture against sylvari is aimed at showing them the darkness and getting them to let it in. Once in, this darkness (perhaps Mordremoth, perhaps not) cannot be quite rooted out. I almost want to say that we were close to seeing this process take place in Caithe during the Edge of Destiny book.

Oh my gosh, this is terribly hard…. I had some, but then others brought in awesome subjects, and it’s just… well hard.
1) Zephyrites – This is by far the most interesting piece of GW2 lore to come out of the Living Story in my opinion. I think a well thought out expansion of our understanding of the Zephyrites could really lead to a better understanding of both dwarves and Forgotten as well (dwarves tied in through the Brotherhood and Forgotten tied in through Glint). I understand it will not explain everything, but I think it could do well to tie up a lot of loose knots if done very well.
2) Historical Events of the Last Rising – There are a lot of loose ends to be tied up about the last rising of the Elder Dragons. When did the Seers create the Bloodstone? When did the Mursaat decide to break allegiance and go to war/desert? What really lead to the breakdown of Jotun society? How did the Forgotten and dwarves become so endeared to the gods (Dwayna and Grenth specific for dwarves)? How were relationships before everything broke down (who liked/hated each other)? What were everyone’s contributions to the fight? I know this is a lot, but it could give a lot of understanding into the history of the awakenings. Plus it would be a lot of data that I know a lot of people would just soak up like a sponge.
3) Greater background of the Norn, Charr, and Asura – ArenaNet wonders why these races aren’t as well loved as others, and I believe that some of the issue is that they just aren’t very well fleshed out. We know SOOOO much about humanity because of GW1, and we know darn near everything we can about Sylvari (minus the origins of the pale tree seeds) because of their short time on Tyria. So far we have very little on the origins of the Charr, Asura, and Norn though. It would be cool to see their histories fleshed out in a more detailed manner and see how some of the history that we knew as humans correlates to their histories but from a vastly different perspective. I think this information could also add a lot of depth to the characters of these races, and make them a much more relate able race to the players.
Please Change This!
^Pretty much just commenting to keep this alive. I won’t want this to get buried and for A-Net to not see the complete disappointment of a good sized group of the player base.
It wasn’t the mini, it was the slickpack backpiece skin that is unavailable forever. I’m right there with you. I was only available to run it over the weekend which ended in a 5 hour long failure, so I tried to get dailies, and I fell 1 short of completing it because the FREAKIN DAILY KEY MAKER ACHIEVEMENT DIDN’T WORK! I was screwed out by bugging dailies. Made two or three keys before realizing that I had wasted money for nothing.
So we’ve only got a little time to speculate. They added a trailer to the release website and it states that the Bloody Prince was both a “Monster” and that he shamed his father’s name… I have to wonder what could make you both a monster and be shameful to Thorn…
^Was that Kudu’s monster?
What annoys me is It’s getting more and more difficult to get the Living Story achievement because the dailies are bugged… Bought enough crap for 2 or 3 aether keys and didn’t get the key achievement….
Yeah, going from US to Africa we’re talking thousands. I know because I visited Sierra Leone (a longer trip I believe) less than a year ago. Not only that but you have days lost to travel crossing the Atlantic at times. This was a special scenario, otherwise I would not have had the time or the finances in order to make a trip like that happen.
The pit is actually surrounded by restless corpses, very close to Oberan the Reviled. There is also the intricate iron bridge that goes over a pit of what appears to be dragon bones, just to name a few of the interesting zones there.
All I know is that there is something relatively satisfying about the idea of a true ascalonian, Wade Samuelsson perhaps, just taking Adlebern’s own sword and stabbing him through the heart with it and having the spirit die fully, thus ending the curse. Sorry, never really, truly, been a fan of Adlebern.
Oh I understood the mention of the catacombs spreading all over. And I did like the fact that the original entrance is still available (albiet cut off from the rest of the catacombs) and you can go back into the little ruined building where Necromancer Muune used to be, I do not believe that you can go any further though.
As to the Melandru not Lyssa, I just looked it up, and you are right. It’s strange what cutting off the wings and matching the coloration to the room can do for how the mural is perceived. When I saw it it didn’t have the same “breathing life” type feel as it does in the concept art and I took it to be someone else. My mistake there.
As to the GW2, thx for the statues. I wasn’t paying as much attention to the statues last night, which lead me to miss a lot, although I do remember the mention of Kormir and Balthazar statues.
This means that thus far Lyssa is the one left out of the Catacombs. Not sure what to take of that, we know that Orrian followers of Lyssa had rituals surrounding death which seemingly included the use of a catacombs like structure… I guess Ascalonian followers of Lyssa might have done it differently, or the easier solution, we just haven’t found the catacombs that followers of Lyssa used.
Well, it wouldn’t surprise me if it was part of Halloween as well though. There are many times that future update items are scripted into the game and randomly appear. I saw both holo Kiel and holo Evon on the projector before either of them had won. It is just a glitch.
It’s okay, we’re used to disappointment :P
We were talking about this last night as we ran the Howler King and Colossus Rumbulus paths last night. We had two topics, whether any of the Ascalonian Catacombs here were from GW1 and what references of the gods were found. I took a bit more interest into this and decided to explore the catacombs this morning just to see what I found.
After discussing last night he came to the simple conclusion that none of GW2’s catacombs were re-imaginings of GW1’s areas. All of GW2’s catacombs take place north-east of Ashford (the old town) mainly underneath Ascalon City and the Great Northern Wall. In comparison, on the over-world map it is easy to tell that the GW1 catacombs were located between Barradin Estate and Ashford Abbey, going about as far north as Ascalon City and as far south as the top of Wizard’s Folly. That was a sad realization, that they would name an area of GW2 after an area in GW1 and include absolutely none of the original zone within it, yet I think I had come to this conclusion previously.
The second subject was which gods were referenced within the Catacombs. I went through the GW1 zones and found only statues of Grenth, which makes sense due to the deathly nature of the region. As I continued to look I found murals referencing Balthazar within a central chamber which also included a stained glass image of grenth Sadly these murals to balthazar only include from the shoulders down, with the head disappearing under the ceiling. I would not have known it to be Balthazar without having previously seen the full artwork elsewhere. I also found references to both Lyssa and Dwayna within the poisonous hallway which we have to safely take Paulus through. Once going down the stairs you can see the mural to Lyssa (I believe) and at the very end you can see a mural to Dwayna (which also includes a small room off to the side with yet another statue to Grenth. I believe the only goddess that I did not find reference to in the area would have been Melandru. I was pleased to find the southern most regions were ones that I had somehow never explored (finding unexplored zones in GW1 is a rarity for me) but minus the natural feel including many vines and roots, there was no reference to the goddess of nature. I find it interesting that she is alone in not receiving any mention within the area, but it may be due to perhaps followers of her not having their bodies buried within crypts, but instead within the soil where it can be one with nature, or something similar.
On GW2 catacombs references, there was at least 1 statue to Grenth within the zone where you pull the chains to kill gravelings in the Detha path (which we did not run, but was open to us) and there were Dwayna-eque angelic statues located within the zone where Nente was fought within the story mode. Any other references, feel free to include them in this summary. There was also a mural, cannot remember which room, and I cannot tell which goddess it would be (if it is a goddess and not another concept art of a profession).
I will post the screen shots of what I found, including the just recently mentioned mural (the last image). Except for the first picture(which was directly north of Necromancer Munne) you can see on the mini-map exactly where I was when the shot was taken. I don’t know if this will spark any interesting conversation, but it was just a study prompted by conversation that I took some interest in.
