I don’t think that we know for certain that Fleshreavers are “demons” persay. Although it definitely seems like they either originate from the mists or have a population base coming through from there.
Was an Obelisk there before?
And she coooooonstantly repeats that she’s summoning this maelstrom. Almost the most annoying single dialogue in game. Gets on my nerves almost as much as “I can outrun a centaur!” used to.
Mad King Thorn is a pretty blatant one with some awesome lore. One of my favorite characters really.
There is not a lot about the the way the landscapes are based on but the are a fair few characters. Not to mention a lot of charters in the Underworld, and the Realm of Torment are based on dark, sinister and apocalyptic things. I believe there is a four horseman reference somewhere.
The 4 horseman reference was a quest in the Underworld in which you had to protect a reaper from 4 well horsemen. They had the skin of Banished Riders, and they had various names. One was Kazhad Dhuum (Obvious Moria reference) and another Gozer Dhuum (obvious Ghostbusters reference).
I was always a little confused on the matter, because in the PS the waters were corruptive and unable to be swam in, but the heart in that region was all about getting the krait to fight the risen by disguising yourself as a risen wasn’t (stupid censor) it? All I know is I spent a large amount of time swimming in those waters afterwards.
Livia, just like a White Wizard, will return at preciously the moment she is needed to protect Kryta.
Precisely?
Because a wizard arrives PRECISELY when he means to :P
I’d say the existence of the Witches shows that they have some further magical powers, although I have yet to see it myself because of the difficulty level around them and the general disinterest in fighting them. Still I remember lots of dialogue about calling Maelstroms and such which, if true, would point to some capabilities with elementalism.
In Guild Wars 1 it was made very clear that the snow in Lion’s Arch was very heavily influenced by Grenth’s appearance. In GW2, Grenth is not around to bring the snow. I think it is also stated around Wintersday that having snow in Ascalon City is a very rare thing. Just a few points of dialogue available.
I’m pretty certain that with the image of “most definitely” scarlet on the next update that she is very deeply involved. I’ll be sending Thal my 20 gold out of my paultry 60 gold saved and will never again make a bet when ArenaNet’s Sanity is on the line! :P
Lol, the other day I was thinking of pointing out that even though the Lore forum members are angry and lashing out against Scarlet and the general direction of the Living Story, we are still avid supporters of the world of Tyria, and none of us have started using the general “I’m gonna quit unless you change x” methodology. We just have so much invested in this world that it hurts us at our core to see some of the decisions being made and the damage they are doing to the world in general…
I do want to point out though, that Dott isn’t a usual name I see on these posts/topics.
EDIT: Any player opinions on this current content? I probably won’t be able to play til around the weekend, but interested to see if the content changes player opinion about the validity of the Sushi Alliance (Not my name, but I rather enjoy it, and it fits my current opinion of this LS content).
(edited by Narcemus.1348)
My first thought was a 6-eyed Oni too, though I’m not sure why I had this perspective. Sadly I’m just gonna assume it’s more Scarlet, so it’s more terrible crap and not worth my time.
How we doing this? Since there’s so many people on both sides? I don’t wanna just pay Thal and have other people coming at me for money too :P
One one of your questions, Titans change to fit the effects of the zone that they are in. All the titans that came through were likely originally in the form of the fleshy demonic titans from the Realm of Torment before they came through and became fiery titans, and then went through the Lich Lord’s portals to become the different forms of Titans that we ended up fighting.
Chaosky, I agree with you in some sense. Back in the day (GW1) my necro had some actual metal armor that didn’t look half bad on him. I wish there was more variety within the armor sets, or if there was just the ability to wear whatever look you wanted, but they haven’t ever allowed this. I do not know why honestly. They do not have issues with stuff players call immersion breaking.
Yeah, they changed the established set up which was the first LS of the month lasts 4 weeks, the second LS of the month lasts 2, repeat… I understand that weird things happen when you get to this time of year and you have 3 LS during the month because of the way weeks work, but if such a thing was happening they should have told us, and they should have made sure that their dailies worked. Many were screwed out of it by just 1 daily which was bugged, either last or second to last.
EDIT: ArenaNet, many of us are still angry about this and it will not just blow over…
I prefer the latter b/c the “more weapons skins” are just the same skins re-colored…
Plus my necro would look BA with an ascalonian flaming dagger that was a deathly green color…
The sad thing is, changing the stacking limitation would cause server lag, thus slowing the game according to what I’ve heard as their answer to this. Still, this doesn’t change that when it comes to world bosses I have two absolutely useless characters. My third is coming (full power), but he’s a long way from world boss level.
We’ve been saying this for a long time, but it seems that they don’t want to give us this because then they can’t just use skins that are already in the game and re-color them and call it a new skin, instead of going to the effort of designing a new weapon.
You are right on the weapons. In the preview the weapons held by the krait are obviously not solid blades. They appear more similar to perhaps the SAB weapons or something of that caliber (only less childish). They are most likely a new weapon skin. Although that doesn’t bring down the arguments of the obvious nightmare court appearance to the branches/roots coming out of the tower or the fact that there is a press release mentioning the NC.
Jackie Chan animated series…
I think one of the more interesting theories would be the civil war Cantha. Assuming they could go more into depth into the political intrigue and such. I felt disappointed at the lack of such in Kryta.
Gotta wonder what use a wall is when you can Laser Cannon it or Airship Jump it…
Yeah the functionality is a bit clunky. I hope someday they decide to revamp that; would think it would be higher priority in a game where the emphasis was on visual progression not statistical.
The priority WAS visual not statistical. Then they included ascended gear…
To be fair, they did touch on a few loose ends originally, the dredge and the flame legion. I still hold to the belief that the LS runs after the PS mainly because Smoldur called me the Pact Commander after all :P I just find it strange that they refuse to touch on certain other loose ends, or decide that it’s necessary to bundle all loose ends that they do touch into one knot (She-who-shall-not-be-named).
Yeah, mad and stupid aren’t the same thing.
I think the biggest problem is that they are attempting to rush too many things in because of the outcry about not knowing anything about Scarlet, her origins, her story. No one knows what she’s up to, and this could have been fixed very simply by just including a story where the players join up with Marjory or someone else and attempt to find people who have worked with her in the past and find out more about her past and perhaps what she’s planning next. Then they could have kept the nice pace that they had with the Molten Alliance (IMO) and continued the story at a believable pace instead of rushing it to get to the point. They have a lot of potential, but it’s just getting too rushed, too messy, and the players are noticing. Part of the problem is the two week rotation. I think we should go back to a well known ArenaNet statement “When it’s Ready!”
Pragmatism also states that they could have just phased out and left everyone behind. They didn’t have to commit genocide on another race condemning the rest of the races to likely death before leaving.
I could have sworn I posted here last night…
Drax: Even if Elona is under a tyrant, it is still a human nation and another large human population base (unless Joko has done some major population culling to prevent uprisings). Plus, Joko is no more evil than some of the leaders that have controlled Kryta (Thorn I’m looking at you). So it is still, IMO, a plus to humanity’s ranking.
I would say Cantha is also likely a plus, but for all we know Cantha could turn out to be an enemy to Kryta, thus changing my opinion of them.
Point. I wonder if any technology will ever make it into the Mist War… I mean I can imagine that airships and tanks would have a majorly different feel from what we have now. Plus if the LS is getting technology overhaul WvW might as well too!
Yeah, mail read on a character that has defeated Zhaitan speaks of the continued offensive in Orr being a possible effect on Tequatl’s new found power. It mentions neither Zhaitan nor his state (living or dead).
I had always hoped that the “someone else” was a planned physical introduction of Menzies, but it never panned out…
Balthazar wanted humanity to rule the world through warfare, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the other gods didn’t create races that would get caught in the crossfire. We already know that at the very least Dwayna didn’t agree with this. And Balthazar was very hot headed in both the literal and the figurative meaning of the word.
I would probably state that for the world that we see, with the amount of sapient races that we see, to exist, we would most definitely need to use the “magically infused evolution” model. It would make very little sense otherwise how life can restart itself every 10,000 years (or less if Konig is right).
Lol, I wonder if they will ever pick up on that line that was stated ways back that the rituals that they were doing were drawing the interests of “someone else”. I sure as heck hope they weren’t talking about Dhuum’s appearance in the UW, and that they were talking about a different threat.
Interesting. We’ve only met Zola before through GW1. I wonder what the other 7 have to say…
I’d agree with pretty much everything Drax said. The only remaining factor which may push humanity to the level of charr would be the way in which Cantha and Elona are handled. These countries could work to show that humanity is still very strong in the world of Tyria, or they could prove that humanity’s decline is everywhere. This all depends on how ArenaNet handles their unique situations.
The mad king always seemed to be at least on cordial terms with the Reapers and King Frozenwind in GW1, although I assume this is because he would much prefer being able to return one night a year than never returning again if Dhuum rises.
I would disagree, but there is no point in debating. We will just have to wait until they release either the content or the short story to see how big the flub was. My guess is that it was pretty big (but I’ve abandoned all hope by this point, and I want you to realize that I had hope up until they released the info on the new release).
Course, naturally I haven’t seen a group take on an invasion that is big enough to get through phase two since clockwork chaos…
Yeah, I’ve gotten there quite a few times as well. She pops up, zerg hits her like crazy, She says, “No, I can’t die!” or something of the sort and disappears… Again popping out at .01% health. I currently have decided to (in game) treat her like real life groups that I hate. Instead of paying attention to them in a negative way I just ignore them and move on. That way they don’t get any publicity from me (which is what they want, negative or positive).
Everything we saw of them in GW1, and everything we see of them in GW2. Never in the storyline have the krait allied with anyone that I can think of. They always stay to their own, even when they are dealing with risen and have another group (the pact) nearby also fighting the risen.
As I have stated before, the Nightmare Court liking the Krait isn’t an issue in my book. It is the other way around, the Krait allying with the Nightmare Court that really kitten es me off.
Ha! I was right. They honestly do not care at all.
So you don’t think that they could give us a living story where the krait created something grand and dark that gives us further depth into the religious order of the krait? I mean including random Nightmare Court NPC’s will most likely give us absolutely NO additional background into either group?
Erukk… Can no group be evil without being involved with every other single evil group on the face of the earth? I mean looking at the real world. 1 nation can rise up and stir up a lot of kitten all by themselves without allying with every other group around. I mean how many allies did Germany have at the start of WW2? And look how far they got on their own.
I have to ask, What effects did our actions in GW1’s halloween quests have on Mad King Thorn’s return in GW2? Why did he disappear for so long just to re-appear now? Are all ponies invisible? or just Gum Drops?
It’s not just GW1 lore. GW2 lore on the blog stated the EXACT SAME THING about the Krait. On top of that, unlike the dredge and flame legion who we’ve pushed to the edge of doing something desperate, the Krait have NO REASON to. We have done very little except take away their magical resistance to the Risen corruption, and you know what? After that we killed Zhaitan so new risen can’t be made anymore anyways. So we’ve done very little to “destroy their society” and “push them to the edge of desperation”, so what exactly can Scarlet hold over them that would make them drop EVERY SINGLE belief that they hold and ally with land dwellers.
The only reason I would want her slain would be to prevent her from breaking more lore, though I concede that you are right Konig. Killing her off only means ArenaNet could bring in someone worse if we don’t get them to understand that they are slowly destroying the very world that they’ve worked so hard to create.
Then the PC wakes up from a massive nightmare in a terrible sweat gasping for air. As he’s trying to get his mind collected a knock comes to the door. Upon opening the door he notices a sylvari woman who speaks, “Hi, My name is Ceara. Can I …” The PC pulls out his sword and decapitates her before she can finish her sentence.
I’d say cut out her tongue for good effect. Even though the game hasn’t shown us this, she’s stated in the many articles to be a very silver-tongued individual. This is vastly different from the Scarlet we see, but nonetheless, remove her most useful tool, and leave her to rot for however long the sylvari may live.
But seriously, ArenaNet: What happened to the “wider, not deeper” mantra? Can you give us something that is related to something ELSE, not a sequence of Saturday morning cartoons of “what is Scarlet doing today!” with the occasional side of “now we have to deal with the consequences of what Scarlet did yesterday!”
Two things that you said actually kinda made me laugh a little. First, She is forcing her view on everyone else, which is honestly just making her no better than the other leaders that she is attempting to bring low. She isn’t giving people the option to think freely, she’s just trying to force another cage around their minds.
Second, I was thinking back to when this game had been out for only a few months, half of the lore forum had problems with almost everything coming back and being tied to the Elder Dragons… Well I guess they decided to tie everything else to something else… Instead of fixing the problem and letting some stuff just happen on it’s own and not be tied to some large over-arching villain/evil.
