abbadon is not dead, even though in gw1 the player defeats abbadon and kormir gains his power, it is never stated that he ceases to exist.

Kormir specifically states, once becoming a goddess, that Abaddon is no more. On top of that, we have Word of God (a.k.a. Word of Grubb) that he is indeed dead.

So... Tengu?

Even the races that do care about Lion’s Arch aren’t doing anything. Why should the tengu?

Do note that the NPC’s state Scarlet basically took the entire city in under an hour(it ranges if anything from under an hour to under a day). If you wanted to view it say, the players arrive at the camp 1 day later, that’s hardly time for anything BEYOND setting up the camps (which the orders got set up kitten quick) and the Seraph/Queen sending the balloons to help transport between the camps.

Not to mention each race DOES have their own issues/fights in their borders, they can’t just yoink a massive army from the frontlines and send them away. ALSO the fact Norn don’t HAVE an army, so they’d have to spread out and tell various lodges/hunting camps about this new threat and hope they want to pitch in.

I actually want to note that at the camp with Emissary Vorrp, he states that the raising of the refugee camps was partially his doing. Because the player was able to help him figure out her plans, and the captain’s council were a bunch of dull witted baboons he had a hand in the creation of refugee camps to help save what lives he could.

I guess I didn’t realize that he had the option to choose his own fear. In most personal stories, if you are the “sidekick,” for lack of a better term, you don’t have the option to talk with NPC’s or interact with most stuff. Almost everything has to be done by the party leader. Because of this, I had assumed if I chose something it would account for him as well (which I believe he assumed also). I guess it’s time to hit the whole character delete button and count my two lvl 400 crafting trades, cultural armor, and personal story up til this point as a waste… That or completely abandon the story I have created for my character which, I’ll be honest, kinda depended on that story… No easy choices…

Yes, but this is what confuses me. I was playing on the same character, and he was playing on the same character, that we both chose the “death of an innocent” path on. We both chose the same path (I chose it personally, and he selected to accept it), so why would the game give us a different path? Even though he started the Forging the Pact story, he had already selected to agree with choosing the “death of an innocent” path and thus we SHOULD still be on that page…

Narcemus.1348

I highly disagree that this is not a bug.

Me and this same person have been playing as the same characters through the same story since well before the first battle for Claw Island. I, personally, made the choice that both of our characters would play through the Tonn storyline. I also lead the personal stories for the defense of Vigil Keep and the retaking of Claw Island. The only story that his character (who, remember, accepted my choice of the Tonn storyline) lead was the Forging of the Pact. So unless there is some way that during that storyline his character was able to switch his “fear” then I don’t see why the story should have given us the wrong path. And since this is the game doing something wrong, I personally consider it a bug.

If this won’t get fixed, I’ll have to delete my character and start from freakin’ scratch all because the game system decides for me what my storyline is, not myself apparently. Oh, and screw being a coop game, never play with friends because even though you’ve both made ALL of the exact same story choices, the game will decide to screw something up…

Yeah, I had always expected the fight against Zhaitan to take place from the perspective of zoomed out from an airship as the players shoot it. There are craploads of problems with this possibility, but at the same time it would have given the players a muuuuuch better perspective of how large he was. I just hope that they aren’t afraid to give us an altered Arah story dungeon, I’m sure it would be loved my many of the players.

Honestly, when I look at people who have no drawing skills whatsoever, their works all look to me like ‘grawl painting’. It requires talent and skill to draw properly, and if you have no – you will always stuck somewhere in 3 years old level. Just because you don’t have the talent and wasn’t taught/self taught.

Problem Scarlet should already possess the skill to draw highly detailed pictures of various things, as evident by the detail put into her blueprints.

There definitely seems to be two kinds of drawings in Scarlet’s lair. Either you have drawings which are made when she is in a moment of clarity (marionette sword, drill, any type of schematic), and drawings made when she is just bat kitten crazy (the “eye of sauron”, tree with red thorns). The image of the dragon almost seems to be in-between. It seems to be much higher quality than the crazy drawings, just vastly abstracted.

If Trahearne got a random sylvari girlfriend and she’s not adding anything to the story, do we really want to take time away from the Pact or the cleansing of Orr to watch them have a picnic or grow flowers? Can you imagine going through Orr and hearing Trahearne go on and on about his girlfriend? Or finish a mission and all his idle dialogue is about his girlfriend?

This won’t end well…

Seriously though, I don’t personally think any of the major romances detract from the storyline in the way that this Trahearne example would. I believe that if properly included and executed they could add rather than subtract from the depth of story.

Narcemus.1348

There are basically no relationships in the game except for Logan/Jennah (which we barely see) and Faolain/Caithe, and those two other people who have absolutely no depth to their personalities.

Is there something wrong with wanting them to feature straight romances at least occasionally?

In response…

In real life, usual estimates say that about 10% of the population is gay (supposedly about 20% say they’re “not straight,” but let’s be generous and keep it at the minimum number), and I think it’s safe to assume that that percentage would be the same in Tyria. However, the sylvari as a species are not capable of reproduction and view gender as irrelevant when it comes to love, therefore it would make sense if roughly 50% of sylvari pairings were gay.

So let’s make a list of every couple ever mentioned in GW2, as long as we are sure of their genders, and see if those numbers match up. Married or divorced, alive or dead, requited or unrequited (crushes and flirting count too)…all of them are here. At least, all I could find in my research.

The ones marked 1 on the list had their romances mentioned in one or more full cutscenes, the ones marked 2 were mentioned elsewhere in the living or personal story, the ones marked 3 were mentioned in events and hearts, and the ones marked 4 were mentioned in flavor text, NPC chatter out in the world, optional NPC conversations, or out-of-game writings (short stories, etc.).

Sylvari same-sex pairings:
1. Caithe and Faolain
Dagdar and Eladus
3. Cymbel and Nia (Nia says they’re friends, but it seems like they have stronger feelings than that)
4. Roardina and one of the festival-goers

1. Morrigu and Leurent
Tiachren and Ysvelta
Gairwen and Evart
4. Variella and Hanar
Lintoina and Garrett
Leanuit and Santach
Erisdae and her partner
A citizen and his love in Ronan’s Bower

Enthusiastically married couple in Ascalon Settlement
Refugee steadholder and her mate (unknown gender but they had children)
Guard formerly of Blue Ice Shining and his/her mate (unknown genders but they had children)
Everyone’s parents

That makes 31% of sylvari relationships and 6% of non-sylvari relationships. So.

Hey,

I was recently playing through the personal story again with a friend, and for some reason the game chose us the wrong path. In the Personal Story Light in the Darkness, where you choose your worst fear, we chose the “let an innocent die” storyline, similarly at the end of the Forging the Pact, Trahearne mentioned the ship that needs destroyed (a the main goal of the “let an innocent die” story), but the next story it sent us to was the start of the Apatia storyline…

Usually I wouldn’t worry about it, but thus far it’s my friend’s third time through the story (the first two running the Apatia storyline) and he wanted to try something new, but even after doing everything right we get shoved onto the wrong path. So… is there anything that can be done?

I was personally hoping that the alliances would break down and we would see some of the results from that, perhaps even while Scarlet is still around. That way as we are destroying her everything that she has worked to build is falling apart, sort of the complete and total destruction route.

I had thought of a few scenarios that would make sense coming from these alliances (specifically Toxic alliance because they made the least sense to me). One such scenario had the krait starting a civil war between factions of the Oratuss, those that had allowed them to be duped by Scarlet and those who wish to return them to their absolute roots of pure evil, perhaps even specifically targeting the Nightmare Court as a enemy.

In my mind, it could make sense for the Aetherblades and the Inquest to stay together. I mean, the inquest pay them to assault areas in order to receive goods/discoveries, or even have the Aetherblades run tests for them on areas of the map for pay. I can’t think of a reason for these two to separate as long as there is profit to be made for both.

As for the Molten Alliance, it will probably depend on how the other factions of dredge and flame legion think about them. We haven’t really seen any interaction between molten alliance and flame legion or moletariate dredge or rebel dredge, there could be any number of scenarios happening between all of those groups.

Prophet Pass – or whatever was the place called in GW1, where one could create a bridge to the Mists and enter Hall of Heroes – It certainly could be a fitting place, except the way I see it, it has Kralkie sitting on top of it. From ones you named, Thalador I would say it’s the best competitor for a major ley line crossing for LA AND it has an Elder Dragon sitting on top of it.

Are you thinking Augury Rock? Or the Tomb of Primeval Kings? I had always thought Augury Rock was supposed to take us into the Mists, but technically speaking it merely took us to the Tomb of Primeval Kings, which is where the entrance was… Hmm…

Artesian Waters – Alright, this might be a good cometitor for LA… Place where gods first stood on Tyria. But does it mean ley lines cross there? Hard to say, plus Zhaitan was residing nearby, quite possible he drained the places magic, and even if not, there is no tales of recurring, cyclical phenomena.

From what I remember from a few dev posts read some long ways ago, there’s nothing explicitly magical about the Artesian Waters. It’s basically just the source of groundwater in Orr. Zhaitan used it to help his corruption more quickly flow throughout the island, and Traherne did the same thing. It’s source of magic came from Zhaitan, not the ley lines, but I suppose it’s always possible there’s a line running near.

I want to say that I heard dialogue somewhere that the Artesian Waters had enough magic to attract the gods to Tyria, from wherever they resided in the Mists. So, the Artesian Waters definitely had magic to them.

I disagree. I’m personally seeing a close resemblance to Saint Alia Atreides, of Dune. I very much disliked her near the end, then her old personality came out a killed itself in order to prevent the personality of Baron Harkonnen winning control. She was very much redeemed at the end.

Size from the previous game doesn’t necessarily matter. It could be a situation where the models change between games, much like other creatures throughout the world (Giants anyone?). Because the undead from Guild Wars Prophecies were never shown to have undead that were “crafted” for lack of a better word, it would make sense that at one point in time Orr did have dragons, and it would be possible for Zhaitan to make use of them. I have to wonder, though, what kind of dragons they may have been, since we have no historical evidence of their existence thus far.

Hrm. I don’t want to rain on anyone’s parade but I’ll have to take the blame for inflating this beyond what it is. At the time I was creating the content in Black Citadel, everyone was abuzz about waves of “mysterious” bird deaths and thinking it was a sign of something apocalyptic, when in every case the deaths were quite ordinary and not notable.

When I thought about the absence of gargoyles from the areas of Ascalon where they used to live in large numbers (which, as a player, is a detail I would have noticed), I wanted to say something about it, but without saying what actually happened to them. With the conversation on the scholar in the Black Citadel, I didn’t set out to answer that question as much as I wanted to explore how some people in Tyria, just as they do in real life, respond when presented with things in nature they don’t have an explanation for.

Gargoyles and Mergoyles have disappeared, and at least one person is looking into it. Whether we expand on that story in the future comes down to whether the story of their absence is interesting enough to be worth exploring, and fits in with other stories we want to tell.

That is slightly disappointing, lol. I do hope that it comes forward with some interesting storylines though

Your point?

My point is that until ArenaNet ends the Guild Wars franchise there is a possibility, however slight or unlikely to some, that ArenaNet may very well bring Abaddon back from the grave or any of his minions.

There’s also the chance, however slight, that the Elder Dragons and gods will ally together and fly around Tyria as great God Dragon Rider Overlords holding the Tyrians to their will. This is why the gods and the dragons line up so well.

@ Konig: I know they gods and dragons don’t line up. I added that line in order to reinforce the heavy dripping sarcasm.
