I personally loved Gwen’s character. I was sad when that little child disappeared and I was happy when she re-appeared. I was a little annoyed by her angstiness, but at the same time I understood where her rage came from, and I was glad to speak for her at her wedding.
As for Joko, he is and always will be a bad guy, and thanks to ArenaNet our characters just looked at him and said, “Well now you’re free, have fun conquering Elona!” and walked off back to Tyria… My character would have never made that choice, (in fact one of them died trying to stop him) but ArenaNet wouldn’t let me ever kill him… Something I still hold against them…
I’ve done so many dungeon explorables… I don’t think I’ve watched the cut scenes in any of them except this Aetherpath :P I really need to join in when they say they’re gonna do dungeons, lol. Especially if ArenaNet is gonna make a habit of just removing all the old paths…
it may be that the current emperor is a good guy, but the ministry of purity have gotten too strong and made kaineng a ‘utopia’ where people are kept ignorant of the rest of the world/dragons – e.g. the earth kingdom in the avatar: last airbender series, thus, we’d have to help the emperor deal with the ministry of purity
I would prefer something like this actually. I’m not sure how well it could be pulled off, though. Some games just have a hard time pulling off a good political storyline, and it doesn’t help that a lot of gamers just constantly skip through plot filled dialogue and text. (I’m guessing all they hear is “Wah wah wah wah” Charlie Brown style.) So the game developers don’t see much point is making the storyline too deep.
The existence of the players and this forum and it’s activity level alone should be reason enough to make the storyline deep… Players built into the lore/rp communities are very avid fans and are also very likely to open up their wallets to support game companies that return the favor by giving them a deep, well written, world for them to dive into.
In terms of bang for your buck I agree this game is pretty good. I mean I think the only other game that I’ve spent more time on for the amount of money paid was GW1. Still, the game designers continue to make income based on this living story stuff and keeping our attention when it comes to the story is the best way for them to continue on as a company. So it is still best for them to consider the opinions of the players. And it is also important for us to note that us not seeing changes based on our responses it is because the response to our voice won’t really be seen until a few stories down the road based on the way in which they have their story teams staggered.
I have just learned that from here on out if there is a dungeon designed with Aetherblades within it just stay away. I just spent 5 hours, at least 4-5 damaged sets of armor and didn’t even kill the freakin Clockheart. Terrible waste of time. I had, you know, wanted to see new story unfold, but unless you are willing to spend your life savings on armor repairs, you aren’t good enough to see it. So, I don’t know when they’ll get it through their thick heads that some of us love the stories they come out with, or at the very least just HAVE to keep up, and that a large portion of the players will never get to because of their Elite players only motto when designing new dungeons. Now I just wish that this hadn’t made it impossible for me to EVER get my dungeon master title. Thanks…
You should probably look up a guide on this dungeon as well as some people who know it. I actually spent more time on Slick and Sparki than clockheart, he’s really quite slow. It also helps to ONLY ranged dps clockheart as well as sparki/Slick. Both have nasty melee and are harder to avoid skills if you’re 2 feet in front of them.
FYI a lot of people have dungeon master title. It’s really not all that special… just sayin.
We went in knowing we didn’t know what we were doing. We were okay with taking our time and learning the mechanics, and I have to say (now that I’ve calmed down a day later) that I do thoroughly enjoy about 90% of the dungeon. The boss fight between slick and sparki took us about 4 tries, but I enjoyed the mechanic, even though it was a bit hairy at the end with slick just blasting out the oil. I enjoyed the ooze part even. I think both of those battles had a good balance of mechanics and fighting. The Foreman was a pain when I’d get pushed into the middle of his waves and the gears on the ground, but we also finished him off on our second attempt. None of that was terribly difficult. I just don’t find the enjoyment in the Clockheart Fight. We went 4-5 rounds with him before two of the players quit and everything broke down (losing at least a gold’s worth of repairs and no reward). Destroying the generators was something we barely got just by luck. I think the problem for me is these last two fights just have too many mechanics involved for me, or at least our group, to keep up with it all. Not to mention it was incredibly annoying when we’d run past a dead generator and our camera would just go crazy… Overall I would say this dungeon is a step up from the Aetherblade retreat, but still, it is incredibly annoying to get so far through such a long dungeon without being able to kill the final boss at all.
And on the point of Dungeon Master. I don’t care about the freakin’ title. I an annoyed that I now cannot get the achievement points that come along with it. These last three living stories have either been stuff I’m uninterested in (SAB) or stuff I cannot complete (Teq and Aetherpath) so new release achievement points are seeming like less and less of a possibility. My personal opinion is that they should never have destroyed already existing content with no option to go back to how it was previously. I hadn’t run much of the explorable dungeons because of a lack of friends interested, and now I can’t know what the story of that path was. And no, just youtubing the run isn’t the same as playing it.
Except other stories state that Jormag awoke north of the Norn and made his way down. If he awoke underneath Drakkar Lake he would have woke up right in the middle of their society.
I meant un-explored by us, lol. Meaning we have no clue what resources may be available because we, ourselves, have not been there.

I do have to point out, Molten alliance creation was after both Baelfire’s death and the Explorable story if you go off of the level ranges. I understand that it isn’t an exact science, but it would make sense that we destroyed their prospects of bringing him to life, so they had to find some other way to wrangle control, thus MA was born.
I highly doubt they see her as a god, and I’m personally surprised that they even still exist as a group with her because of the way in which they despised each other for their failures. I plan on attempting the dungeon tonight. I hope that it gives me a new perspective of her/her cohorts.
Well, I’d say that we are supposed to be Destiny Edge level players. So I would probably say that Kiel, as far as power goes, would be closer to 75-80% our power level. But her power level isn’t really much of a thing when it comes to her story. She leads, and doesn’t fight as much.

It is preferable, IMO, to think that she came to her own conclusions on the subject which made her a valuable asset to the Order of Whispers. Which means her continued support leading the human population of Kryta would be of utmost importance to the Order of Whispers. This would be because if the Ministry got control of Kryta the peace talks with the charr would almost instantly cease and there would be very little assistance from humans in further battles with the Elder Dragons. This would also decrease the Iron Legion presence because they would once-more have to defend those lands from both humans and ogres. Because of this, creating a situation where humanity gets no reward for it’s assistance in the fight against the Elder Dragons, by giving it’s heritage over to everyone else would be a bad move on the Order’s part. Giving Orr away to everyone else would make the queen look weak and give others in power the ability to sway humanity away from her rule. This single move could do more to weaken the Pact than anything else.
And thus I brought us back around to the topic. Please, Please, no applause necessary
IMO it makes little sense for Cantha to invade other countries. The Ministry of Purity built it’s war based on the fear of the Canthan people. They showed canthans the dangers of outsiders and pushed them to remove the outsiders in order to make themselves a safer future. Pushing the fear induced isolation into expansion is a complete and total change of mind-set. I’m not stating that it could not have happened, but inducing the last known mind-set required a massive population destroying plague.
As to cantha’s resources, the best we can do at the moment is speculate. Rumors and such kept pointing towards the Jade Sea and Echovald starting to heal. Whatever that may mean, it is possible that they now have a large resource of fish and lumber, and with population lost, some of the slums may have been leveled in order to produce agriculture. Plus we can’t forget the large parts of the continent that have remained completely un-explored. We have no clue what kind of resources they may have tapped into within that region. I am not saying that this is the way it is, but in general, it is as much a possibility as what Konig stated.
Kitten, I hope Joko isn’t an ally. I’m sick and tired of leaving that “lesser evil” alone in order to kill a greater one just so he can wreak more havoc, enslave more people groups, etc…
Just because he was un-killable 250 years ago doesn’t mean he is now. I’ve always wondered what he would look like after an asura megalaser blasted his kitten.
My point is that the events at the end of Edge of Destiny were extremely random.
1) The Order of Whispers would have had to know when Kralky would awake and where he would go, which means that they would have information about Glint and Kralky’s past that we are only certain that the Nightmare Court MAY have known. Faolain could have just been stirring up trouble and been randomly right, but it seems more likely that they somehow found out. Still, they would have had to determine that Kralky WOULDN’T just brand Ebonhawke and Queen Jennah which would have ruined their whole plan. A whole lot of risk there.
2. They would have had to have a part in timing the creation of the new asuran gate in Ebonhawke and the timing of the celebration to work out exactly when Kralky would awaken. This part seems actually possible to people of their caliber.
The biggest problem for me is somehow knowing that Krakly would avoid and yet attack Ebonhawke and predict his and his minions’ movements. It just doesn’t seem possible when they would not know how the dragon thinks.
ArenaNet doesn’t necessarily plan everything they do from the beginning. Instead they leave lots of loose ends and odd nods for them to pick up later on in order to tie a new element into the older lore of the game. This can be seen through Palawa Joko, The Great Destroyer/Rubicon, and many other references. So expecting them to have had Scarlet as a key component from the beginning just isn’t the way ArenaNet has ever worked.
I even thought the Marjory story-line was a bit weak. I loved the idea of it, but we barely got to “play detective.” I would have preferred to question all the suspects than use a magical asuran device to decide who was guilty or innocent. It didn’t have as much “air of mystery” as it could have.
The code that you are talking about is really the eternal alchemy, lol. All cogs in a great machine.
The silk thread is only used in armor crafting so it is not available yet. Deldrimmor Steel, Elonian Leather, and Spirit Wood are all used in the crafting of weapons, but no weapons are crafted with cloth.
That could be a reason that she got all buddy-buddy with the NC in the first place and started building inside of their largest holdings. That way if things didn’t go according to plan her pirates there could keep them occupied so that she can get there first.
Well, you never know with Scarlet. The biggest reason that everyone kept the Malyck secret was because if the Nightmare Court knew they could likely just kill the Pale Tree and start over with a new “influenceless” one. At least, that is what I remember from playing that storyline around a year ago.
So… Scarlet telling Faolain could just be a way to instigate some major fighting between the Nightmare Court and the Pale Tree while she goes off on her own to study the new tree.
It might be the strongest in manpower, but when you look at dictatorship and oppression two things usually fall behind, technological development and culture. They may be the “strongest” but when it comes to everything else, I would put Kryta as being much further developed people group.
Except it was. There was no attack from the air, Kralkatorrik just flew by and shot a bolt of lightning at the wall causing it to shatter. The attack was by branded ogres pouring in through the hole in the wall. So yes, going up in the tower was to keep her safe from the battle occurring below. And unless you want to claim that Anise is an Order of Whispers agent, you probably should end this like of argument, because she was the one pushing her further up.
TeamSpeak has issues with my computer. I downloaded it in order to be better coordinated for Tequatl. The day I downloaded it I had my computer blue screen and shut down 5 times before I uninstalled it. I haven’t had it blue screen since the I uninstalled it…
Only issue I have is I’m trying to get a friend’s guild up in Influence while doing events, but that means I can’t be talking in the Archivist Sanctum Guild Chat at the same time… Tis an annoying situation…
Except we know Kralkatorrik went by Ebonhawke on his way to deal with Glint whom he knew had betrayed them. And the people directly pushing Jennah to the top of the Keep, where she would be the safest from the Branded, were the Shining Blade. Her personal guard. If the Order of Whispers is controlling her personal guard then they have delved pretty deep. The thing is, they couldn’t have known that Kralkatorrik would go for Glint, because it wasn’t until that point in time that the secret of her being a dragon champion was given away…
Yeah, we could talk about Cantha until we’re blue in the face, but truth is anything could happen. For all we know the wardens rose up and pushed all humanity within Cantha to near extinction. It’s highly unlikely, but with the right wording they could very well make it possible.
I want to note, though, in Winds of Change we didn’t wipe out the gangs. We did some major damage to them, to say the least, but they joined us in taking out Reiko. And they got new, slightly more normal, leaders. All we really wiped out was the Afflicted, and even after they were “wiped” some Shiro’ken and such still existed in places. I wouldn’t be surprised if one or two escaped and lurk in the depths of the Echovald Forest or something to that effect. What I did like about the end of Winds of Change, though, was that not everyone switched to the mentality of the Ministry of Purity. I was glad to see that there was still a ray of hope in some of the people of Tsumei Village, Xin Ji, was the girl’s name I believe. I feel there may be people there that aren’t gung-ho about killing everything foreign to them.
Eh, servers don’t matter. We can do most of the stuff we need groups for together cross server, such as fractals and dungeons, and guesting is always a possibility if anything else is going on. We’re spread throughout. They mentioned a vast majority of them are on Sanctum of Rall, I’m personally on Isle of Janthir, and I know a lot of others vary as well.
unless you can find proff that OoW did not have anything to do with her changing oppinion there still is a chance they made her change oppinion.
tho thats a diffrent diskusion.
Her change of opinion is clearly shown right in the end of the book Edge of Destiny. She had just wrangled the asura into re-building the gate network connecting Ebonhawke to Divinity’s Reach. She was giving a speech of the combined efforts of Divinity’s Reach and Ebonhawke when Kralkatorrik awoke, created the brand, and opened a door to let in a horde of branded. As she was running to safety she looked into the mind of the dragon and was terrified. In this moment, after her great illusion that drew all the branded away, she freed all of the captured charr under the notion of having to work together against these types of challenges. Unless the Order of Whispers were behind the awakening of Kralkatorrik, I’d say they were not behind her change of heart on the subject.
Which is my point on Logical Belief. Belief does not just exist in religious scenarios. I mean every time I come to a green light I believe that the cars going perpendicular to me are going to stop at a red light. It is logical because of the fact that in all my my years of driving probably about 95% of the people do that. Logical belief exists in many facets, and that is why it is not a joke, as the poster seemed to point out. I merely brought up science based on the fact that many people take scientific theory to the extreme of thinking that it is Law just because of how long it has been around, and how many indicators point in that direction, but this is not how science works. Science works in a constant field of relativism where at any point your results could point to a theory being false, in which case you have to hypothesize why and create more studies.
/Thread Derailed
On what you said.
1. Orr – Pretty much have been wiped out since the time of Guild Wars Prophecies (Post Searing).
2. Ascalon – This kingdom is actually getting a chance. The Charr, with the treaty, are actually giving lands over to the humans to use as their own. Humanity will have to fight against ogres to maintain control, but that is something they are used to. They might have room for a decent population by the time things wrap up.
3. Kryta – Well yeah, although I will say I think their lands are a little larger than we see in game. There is at least talk of settlements around Lake Doric which I believe is the lake to the east of Divinity’s Reach, so there is the possibility of Krytan settlements to the North and east of Divinity’s Reach, perhaps even west…
4. Elona – I highly doubt that Joko has made his whole country undead. The problem with undead is they eventually die of attrition, especially if you are fighting against dragon minions (which is speculated). Having access to living beings which reproduce gives him supplies for fresh troops. Plus it is mentioned that he has living humans working under him gaining reward for turning in Ossa decendents or Sunspears.
5. Cantha – I’d agree this is quite possibly the strongest human faction out there. The issue around them is how isolationist/hostile to other races they are. Because should we visit, we might not receive a very friendly welcome…
NO!
15 characters.
Last I knew it was the Law of Gravity, although that was over 7 years ago and Pluto was still a planet :P
I have to point out that, so far they do not like Jennah on the throne because she is easy to manipulate, but because thus far her goals have aligned very strongly with their own. It is much easier for them to keep a person in power whose thought process is very similar to their own than to “train” a new leader in the right way to do things.
I don’t have time to go into the rest if it, which I fully disagree with, but I’ll come back to it at some time (or more likely it’ll be 3 more pages of posts before I get back again).
Now we have to kill a Legendary Crazed Steam Karka Queen… I think these names are getting a bit long…
I think, personally, that there is a level where the two source lore works. The problem is that important information which is vital to the story is being missed out on because of this current system. Back with the origins of Braham and Rox stories, these were great. They gave more background on the characters, but the background wasn’t necessary in order to understand their characters within the content itself. They had plenty other conversations between them/you/others in order for you to understand them throughout the story. The biggest irk that came out on this forum was the background of Scarlet which appeared on the website but never showed up in the game. I personally believe that if they wished to flesh out Scarlet better that instead of just placing an article on a website they should have created a living story arc out of finding and talking with people who had been involved with her. This would have given players at all levels of the story a background into her importance in the events going on.
I think they took the hallucinogenics in the air and put it into the drug you give Waine in the Sylvari storyline…
“But… the oozes! The oozes! And the dredge!”
The problem with your comparison is we have evidence that Elder Dragons target and strike specific locations of resistance to their existence. Hurricanes are random, and without any thought that we can see.
I want to fight myself a champion branded hydra!
Now, you say that King Thorn was a Necromancer, but I don’t believe I’ve read anywhere that his profession was given away. Most of the time he was seen using Candy Corn Elementals in the past, and the undead found in quests were fighting against him, not with him…
Take that to GW2, there are undead, but generally just cause by the veil between the real world and underworld being weakened. I would be more willing to assume that the skeletons of Mad King Thorn are fake than undead, though that’s just personal opinion.
Most middle eastern cultures saw pigs and the meat from them as unclean. That ranges from the Muslim to the Jewish cultures. That is a theory on why it became such a big part of their cultures.
But, to derail the topic further, one could go to the extent of claiming that things such as the Big Bang Theory and Evolution are “logical beliefs”. I say this only because these things are merely theories with some scientific backing, but there are still enough issues with these theories to require a person to just believe.
On Topic, well I’ve said my point. I do not believe that it is necessary for them to physically blind themselves. I would say that it is more likely that wearing the headbands are symbolically blinding themselves to represent their goddess.
Don’t forget the Necrid Horsemen from Kryta…
At least he has convinced his minions that he is gifting them with immortality, when in all reality he is just bringing them into servitude. It’s like asking if receiving a Goa’uld in Stargate was a reward of immortality or torture being trapped within a body that is not under your control.
Yeah, the way it seems to be working with the Living Story is, so far, the Living Story achievements from the beginning of the month continue to be available through the next update and then disappear with the next month’s update. It was this way for Zephyrites/Kiel&Evon and Queen’s Jubilee/Clockwork Chaos, and for SAB/Teq.
Yeah, I just logged in once to my character in sparkfly just in time for Teq to appear and there were only 4 people in the area. I said “Screw This!” and popped into PvP to travel to LA. Even IoJ’s massive Meta Trains won’t stop to attempt Tequatl, he’s just not worth it. And I’m talking 9 commanders and enough players to fill the server…
Don’t worry, I’m sure once we get into the Underworld we’ll find ourselves with dozens of Skeleton’s of Dhuum to deal with!
See, the idea that you have to push away the human centric lore in order to promote the other races is a problem. The best way to promote other races would be bringing up the old human centric lore and giving spot lights from the other races to show how it effected them, if it effected them at all. If not, then show some interest from them in the subject or something to promote them without just forgetting what is already built into the game.
They definitely have some work to do on making town clothes more appealing to the players. I don’t think I’ve really used mine at all since release because there is no point.
Issues like this have been around since the initial game release. In fact, they changed the Ascalonian Catacombs armor to be lvl 80 exotic which it wasn’t originally. I do not know why they haven’t changed it yet, but it doesn’t seem to me like they will, without some new reason, but personally I think the idea of making culturals as well as maybe even the orders armors into a transmutable skin would be a great idea.
