I think Aaron’s point isn’t that he had (censor) amnesia. We had talked about this a little while back, and it seems that Malyck had some basic skills from his awakening from the pod. I mean he was found by the wardens a little ways away from the pod, he at least knew how to move (I assume walking, but at the very least dragging himself). Our point was it seems that he had some deep seeded skills that may have been transferred to him through a low level dream which would be something he would not necessarily remember, but left him with the skills to survive, should he need them. We were basing this off of real life experiences. I know how to walk even though I do not remember what was going through my head at like the age of 1 when I figured it out, nor do I have memory of when I learned how to eat. These skills stay with us through use, even though the original thought processes which gave us these skills never stick with us. This isn’t necessarily the effects of amnesia, but of the development of the brain.

I honestly think a game that didn’t have a starting story and just built up with general updates (not strictly adhering to a specific schedule) could be an awesome thing. I think the issue arises when you have both a set in stone story and a flexible story and they try to live in the same world. In other words, I wish they would have thought about the living story before the original creation of the game. It could have been much more interesting, in a way. Not to say that there wouldn’t have been issues to iron out, but still…

So we don’t remember big movers and shakers from our big wars and victories? I mean who remembers George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson… Heck, we remember Paul Revere, and his story is VERY small. BTW, all of these references are from a similar situation in my own nation from a very similar length of time ago… Our PC was trusted by the crown and all of it’s armies. In Kryta, at the very least, they fought against the white mantle/mursaat/jade armors in the very streets of Lion’s Arch, they joined the groups of Lionguard that were hunting down and destroying the Titans in North Kryta Province, and they don’t deserve any remembrance at all in this nation? I do not understand why some guy who just stood and said, “Hey, go kill this guy” deserves to have had more impact on the world than my own character. I don’t expect his name shouted out at every corner, obviously, but I would expect more about at the very least the events and the group of adventurers that conquered them. Thus far there’s only one random comment by some scholars talking about an ancient scroll talking about those adventures, other than that… Nothing.

On a side-note, I was a great friend of many norn… would they have really let me die without spreading my legend? If so, they are either terrible norn or terrible friends.

Narcemus.1348

Wow, such an aggressive conversation that is not even on the topic, which is new ranger pet skins…

As per Zhaitan, risen are his minions, this doesn’t make him a risen. It would be like saying a necromancer is undead (when they are very much alive) or an elementalist is made of whatever element they raise into an elemental minion, which is absurd. Now, whether or not he is, is something that could be debated til everyone is blue in the face and we’ve gotten nowhere, but as to the “he raises them thus he is one of them” arguement, it just doesn’t work.

As to the topic on hand, I have no rangers atm, although it’ll be the next profession I get after I finish out my current 5 (guardian, thief, and elementalist remaining), so I really do not know what the situation on pets is.

More likely related to the Jade Sea, seeing as the whole fractal is almost identical to zones within that instance in GW1. Almost more identical than any other comparison we find from GW2.

Although, one thing I have to mention, In the expansion, War in Kryta, there were new Jade Armors that used a green, rather than deep purple/red skin. I have to wonder if the Mursaat didn’t have to find other materials in order to create their armies or what, but in general the color of the skin is fairly similar to the color of the jade from the Jade Sea.

Narcemus.1348

No, they’e made it clear that there are other Orrians. You cannot believe that everyone of Orrian descent was in the country at the time of war. There are merchants still, there had to have been a navy, and if I remember right there was mention of armies of Orrians in Ascalon and Kryta attempting to stop the fighting, part of the reason the Orrians were not able to stop the charr in their early offensives, if I remember right. Also, I do not recall calling Orr a continent, although if I made that mistake I apologize. As to the searing ritual, the range of effect was well large enough for them to have done some major damage to Arah from the Vizier’s tower, looking at the Area of Effect in Ascalon.

If Orr is ever cured, who will inhabit it?

in Lore

Posted by: Narcemus.1348

Narcemus.1348

So then we have two situations.

We have Adlebern who watched as the charr destroyed his gates and flooded into his city. He saw his soldier fleeing and said, “NO! YOU WILL NOT RETREAT!” and then used a “giant nuke” to kill them all and force their spirits into servitude to his spirit. His actions slew his entire nation, but he is no better than this vile man.

We have King Reza. He had charr on his gates. They ate through what was left of his army and were readying a ritual to sear Orr much like they seared Ascalon. In this moment his most trusted adviser said there was possibly something to save them within the vaults, and this desperate man took the advise of his good friend and allowed him to search. What Khilbron found he said would save them all, and unlike a “good king” he trusted his friend and adviser. Then Khilbron destroyed the whole continent. It is obvious here that the most evil person in this situation is King Reza. I mean he condemned all of his people to death and undead servitude to the Lich Lord (aka Khilbron). Khilbron was an okay guy though, all of the evil is at King Reza’s feet!

.
.
.

Now for those of you that don’t know, this was sarcasm pointed at Korsbaek’s logic. It is obvious he is wrong, but he will not stop in proving himself right, so I will just take this last moment to say, he is wrong. I will not try and make him understand why, because it is not possible. I mean, by his logic if a murder ever happened with a Military weapon the president should be tried for murder…. WHAT?!?!?!? I’m sorry but no. Only the individual who committed the crime is to blame.

The Great Dwarf

Narcemus.1348

It is rather odd when it comes to the Great Dwarf. ArenaNet had obviously started playing with subjective truth by that point in time. I mean by even Nightfall many of us had started doubting what we held as truth. The beliefs of the Great Dwarf by the dwarven race we see in GW1 made it seem very much as if the Great Dwarf was a singular entity that created them upon Anvil Rock, but the Rite of the Great Dwarf was said, also, to turn the dwarves into the Great Dwarf in order for the Great Dwarf to destroy his nemesis the great destroyer (who we kill actually). So it is really unclear what exactly everything is. Still, whatever the Great Dwarf is, something happened at Anvil Rock. Because if the dwarves were in their “Great Dwarf” form in the original battle, something occurred at Anvil Rock to make them into the race that they were when we met them in Prophecies.

If Orr is ever cured, who will inhabit it?

in Lore

Narcemus.1348

The problem is the lore on it is grey due to the lack of anyone living afterwards. There is some text stating that he was given permission to search for an artifact that would save the kingdom. There is some evidence to the fact that he may have actually thought his actions would save the kingdom, him being tricked by a demon much like Shiro, but his belief in Abaddon may mean that he could have meant to destroy Arah afterall (since that was Abaddon’s intention). But all-in-all, the Vizier was the King’s closes adviser, and could have quite possibly even been adviser to his father (seeing as Reza looks quite young in game). This would make him one of his most trusted friends. Would you really blame yourself if you turned your back on your closest friend and they stabbed you? NO! They are one of the people you trust the most, why would you doubt their intentions?

Narcemus.1348

Alright CHIPS, I’m going to give you my personal reading of this situation so that you can make some sense of it in your mind.

IMO, the Molten Alliance probably didn’t start working together until after Gaheron’s death and the start of the civil war for the dredge. I won’t get into why I believe this, but there is nothing to directly prove me wrong at this point so choosing to believe it is not against the given lore. At this point in time I do not believe that the whole of the Flame Legion or the whole of the dredge joined this alliance. My assumption would be that the Flame Legion that first joined up with the dredge would have been one of the multiple sects that were fighting within their own mini civil war. If I remember right from the Citadel of Flame explorable mail, the Flame Legion are at war with each other for power, similarly to how the Nightmare Court looked after Faolain fled. Because of this it makes sense that the early start of the Molten Alliance could have been started by a single group of these Flame Legion charr. I mean think of the desperation you are feeling after a rag-tag group of people come in and demolish your army and kill your leader/god. The Flame Legion are desperate and their magic HAS failed them. They cannot surrender to the other legions, so their only hope is to find someone or something else.

Similarly you have the dredge. Their leaders have had the floor literally drop out from underneath them. Their workers are now fighting against them for a better future for all dredge. And whether or not you want to believe that the dredge aren’t fighting because of being enslaved by their own, it is made very clear in Frostgorge Sound that this is the main reason multiple dredge are joining the cause. Because of this the leadership and those allied to it also need to find help.

Out of the blue comes Scarlet, who somehow speaks about a tempting alliance with each other and makes sense (crazy thought based on the dialogue we get from her in game). Thus far, it doesn’t seem like she was leading them at all. The dialogues from the end of Flame and Frost seemed like she just pointed them in each other’s direction and left it at that. What we see currently seems to have been more of her coming in afterwards and taking control of those that remained (surely some Molten Facilities didn’t get raided) and moving them to a new location, possibly with the Aetherblades backing her.

It isn’t perfect, but my point is, WE actually laid all of the groundwork for her plans in the first place. By us destroying their faith in their systems, we gave them doubts that Scarlet was able to originally fulfill.

I also want to take a moment and point out. However many Molten Alliance are killed in the Invasions, the numbers are actually quite small compared to the Aetherblades. So this may be pointing to their lesser numbers.

The Decline Of The Jotun

in Lore

Posted by: Narcemus.1348

Narcemus.1348

Jotun are a primitive race now, but they were once a vastly civilized race. So much so, that they were one of the 5 major races that battled the Elder Dragons in the last awakening. They have also survived multiple awakenings, I believe this information is given on the Jotun path in Arah. They are also very well accomplished astronomers.

The current Jotun society appears to have been a result of the loss of magic. The magic used now, by the races, is the same as the magic that has always been in Tyria. In fact, so far the Gods have not “given” their own type of magic to anyone, instead they have just released the magic of the world, which the seers trapped within the bloodstone.

I personally believe that your idea of giving up magic could have the same effect that happened with the last rising, but without it we would also have no defense against the dragons as they attempt to continue to ravage the world. We CANNOT remove all magic from the world, because every living being seems to be the embodiment of magic. Thus as long as there are creatures living in Tyria, there is still magic for the ED’s to consume.

As to the evils of Necromancy, you seem to have things a little wrong. Necromancy has nothing to do with denying death, in fact the human customs around necromancy show that their job is to accept death as a reality for everyone and everything. During Wintersday in GW1 the followers of Grenth, some necromancers, called for people to be somber and to see winter as a reminder of the impending death of all, while Dwayna’s followers called for celebration for the new life to be born with the coming spring. I understand that this wasn’t necessary to the conversation, but I have been a main character necromancer since I started GW1, and I hate to see players misconstrue the personality of Necromancers. There are evil ones, but there are also evil warriors, rangers, and elementalists.

(that killed itself, yes i know it where one man that did it but hes plan got a apprveal of the king makeing it the kings the act that of the king and that is fact even if the king did not know what the plan where or anything)

Actually, no. The king gave him approval to go into the vaults below Orr to get an artifact that would save them from the Charr. This is, in fact, very well documented. From our understanding of the events, it is possible (however unlikely) that Vizier Khilbron didn’t even know that the spell would destroy the entire continent. There was definitely a demon over his shoulder telling him what to do, but there is no evidence that he knew what the end result would have been.

Well, actually if you go off of some maps which were made overlaying original GW1 locations (whose accuracy is probably not perfect, but is good for a general idea) the top of the map right now is roughly the norn zones that we saw in GW1. I think the top of the map is around where Sifhalla was. This isn’t perfect, as I said, just a generalized idea. But still, I was talking to those saying that he may have arose under Drakkar (which at that time would have been the tiny lake, not the inland sea).
