I was gonna say, they were willing to commit genocide without a second thought. I understand that this isn’t as big of an evil in Tyria as it is on planet earth, but it is still pretty much up there. They were willing to allow the destruction of 4 races of living beings to save their own hides. A group that wasn’t malicious might spread their knowledge of phasing out of Tyria on to the other 4 races so that together they may all survive another ED rising, instead they took what they knew and ran.

Which begs the question why the mursaat were the only ones who attacked the Seers. Although it seems that the mursaat may have attacked and nearly wiped out the Seers before the bloodstone was fully created. The only other option being that the mursaat returned for a little bit from their “other phase” after the bloodstone was made and killed the Seers before they added the mursaat magic to the magics sucked into the blodstone. IDK, it’s still ambiguous as to how everything happened back then, and honestly it was most likely a domino effect of actions happening extremely rapidly and growing out of control.

Um, well there were loads of them in the Shiverpeaks. There were quite a few in the Maguuma Jungle, and we do not know if there were any in the areas north of Kryta that we now see them in because we never went up there. There was plenty of Centaurs around back then, heck in the Bloodstone Fen mission, I believe, you destroyed the leaders of a group that were combining forces to attack the humans.

They’re teasing us so far. They love teasing us, and it gives them things to expand upon in the future. Heck the Tome of Rubicon was nothing special until it fit the role of the Elder Dragon prologue. I do expect something mursaat eventually, but time will only tell what kind of role they will take.

Actually, in the first instance he did not have divine power from Abaddon. Abaddon merely used a fortune teller to push him to kill the emperor, but he didn’t have any magic from Abaddon. The only magic he did have was the “Divine Blessing of Dwayna” that the Emperor was assumed to have gained from the Harvest Festival. We do not know if this magic he held could be used to influence his fighting skills or not, the only proven effect of this magic was being twisted and released in the Jade Wind.

The story behind the Centaur War in GW2 is that just recently a large portion of the centaurs have been united (forcibly) under the Modniir tribe (you’ll remember fighting them in the shiverpeak mountains). With this new power the Modniir decided to go out in full force against the humans, re-igniting the old war.

There was a bridge that went in front of a type of Mount Rushmore, which had these heads and water falling out of their mouths. At the very first time I saw these, that is what I thought they were, but they aren’t. The heads I was talking about are located in the land between Rata Sum and The Grove. Looking between the GW2 and GW1 maps, I’m seeing that the area is placed in an area where there were no heads in GW1, so it must have been built between the times. They do look a lot like faces in anguish which leads me to believe Nightmare Court.

All I know is I really like the idea of a Nemesis in GW2, it’ll definitely give the game a flair that it is missing at the moment. Although I do like the story of killing a massive beast that’s a threat to the whole world, it doesn’t hold much in the way of political intrigue or creating memorable enemies (from the sense of like a Palawa Joko, or manipulative Lich Lord).

While the future evil you does make things interesting, I would honestly like them to either avoid that, or to use it to explain the way in which “Possible Futures” work in Tyria a little bit better, because thinking about a multiverse in Tyria makes my brain hurt.

I’m pretty sure it’s related to Grenth’s statues and how the dead reach out to him. I know Grenth isn’t the patron god of all necromancers anymore, but that doesn’t matter in the sense of concept art and how it feels.

I definitely have to agree the end of Source of Orr was a great moment in the game. It was really great to feel the real effect of taking out the source of Zhaitan’s corruption, and also having the ability to help someone fulfill their Wyld Hunt. But mostly it was fighting those last few minutes to Fear Not This Night (one of my favorite songs in the game).

If you are asking in general about the Elder Dragons and why we are fighting them, it has absolutely no foundation in Guild Wars 1. Guild Wars 1 was a lot about supernatural beings and evil people manipulating things and your characters having to fight the good fight. Guild Wars 1 is set between Dragon awakenings, and because of this the people who knew about the dragons were either dead, or didn’t feel like passing the information on (for some reason or another). I’m not saying playing GW1 or reading up on the lore won’t make the game more enjoyable. In fact 90% of the reason I love this game is finding places in the game that had existed in the previous game, reading lore on people you knew in the game and how they died, and so on. It adds another level of depth to the game for me.

@Konig: I have to agree, it’s sad that there’s no new content for GW1 to play anymore. I’m trying to get a friend that I recently got addicted to GW2 to grab GW1 and play it through with me from beginning to end in order to just see the world again with fresh eyes. I still remember the great days of the Wayfarer’s Reverie and going around to visit all those old cherished locations. Nostalgia is a great motivator at times.

Who built Rata Sum?

Narcemus.1348

Yeah, that’s been around for a while. It has been theorized that Rata Sum, along with the explorable area near it called Riven Earth were an anagram for Mursaat (Rata Sum) Thrive Near (Riven Earth). Obviously though anagrams for zone names aren’t lore. Furthermore, there is proven to be very little connection between the ruins of Rata Sum in GW1 and the mursaat. Firstly the mursaat cities were described as having “massive towers reaching into the heavens,” now obviously Rata Sum is not the city that Saul’s mentioning. The structures of Rata Sum do go high, but they hug the earth, and are highly unlikely to be confused for towers, not to mention, Kryta has many watch towers that stand much higher than the temples of Rata Sum. Secondly the mursaat and the asura do not have much of a connection that we can see. Sure they are both magically advanced, but there is no relation or physical connection. We see an asura in GW1 studying a mursaat because it is something new to him.

Is Abaddon stronger than Elder Dragons?

Narcemus.1348

I fully understand this, but since we do not have the full origins of the text, and because of the incorrectness that human history has, it must be taken with a grain of salt. I’m not saying I refuse to believe that Abaddon was more powerful than the other gods (individually), my second statement actually mentions my theory as to how he got that way, but I’m merely stating that being able to defeat any two gods doesn’t, in and of itself, mean that he is physically or magically stronger than them anymore than an assassin slaying two warriors in their sleep makes the assassin more physically strong than them.

We know that there are Saltspray Dragons in Cantha. Now these were hostile, but only because they were corrupted by the Jade Wind if I remember right. Before then they were benevolent. There is, I know this for a fact, 1 saltspray dragon in cantha that still gives out wishes. We do not know if they are related to an Elder Dragon though, but I honestly hope that they aren’t. It would be too much of the same old thing as we see in Tyria.

Hmm, I read that article fully, and I find it very interesting. I would be curious to see where they found the descriptions of his form before and after his madness. I will notice that at least one item within the article is outright wrong. The article specifically talks about the gods creating the bloodstones, which we know was actually an act by the Seers. I’m not saying the whole article is wrong, much of it seems to have been pulled from in-game lore, but it is definitely not a perfect record.

Well, no she didn’t necessarily need to be flesh and blood before her corruption, then again any kind of Branded being out there would be described as being made of crystal, so we cannot throw out this option. Her ability to reproduce points me to believe that she used to be a living creature of some sort (what kind I have no clue).

Is Abaddon stronger than Elder Dragons?

in Lore

Posted by: Narcemus.1348

Narcemus.1348

He is stated to have been able to take on two of the gods at once. This doesn’t necessarily mean he’s stronger. I mean he was the god of secrets, which means he was likely a heck of a lot smarter. He knew a lot that others didn’t, which could be attributed to what would have made him be able to stand up to any two of the others.

Now, I know it could honestly go either way, and I personally like to believe that Abaddon is kind of like a huntsman type god. He would go into the mists and hunt down other god-like beings, obtaining their powers and knowledge and making himself eventually more powerful than the rest. Sadly, the only possible thing that could lead to this being somewhat true are the non-canon descriptions of places existing in the Realm of Torment such as Arachnia. It is merely a fun theory that I like to throw out there every once and a while. The point though is, we don’t know the full extent of the situation, for a Battle Royale between gods we know very little. Their whole brain wipe/hiding everything Abaddon related kinda took a toll.

I merely used Kralkatorrik, because other than Zhaitan he’s the only one that we have been allowed to see physically corrupting things. I have no doubt that the Tequatl type dragons are most likely a mixture of magic imbued parts and are sewn together much like abominations. I mean we know that magically imbued beings seem to grow and feed off of the magic. It is definitely not impossible to believe that Zhaitan could create those this way either.

I have a theory that Kralkatorrik’s new champions are mainly magically imbued rock because of the fact that he was betrayed by Glint, something that may honestly have been an unprecedented act. This could have made him leery of using once living beings as his strongest champions.

Yes, but you have to remember, these are still just a bunch of ants milling around a dead body. That doesn’t usually stop a scavenger from settling down for a bite. And honestly, without more research, I highly doubt that the pact would stand much of a chance against another elder dragon. I mean I don’t believe they have submarines with anti-ED cannons or any protection for their airships. I mean one shot of Kralkatorrik’s breath would brand everyone in an airship without some sort of sheilding.

He roared out and fell into the depths of Arah, never to be seen again.

Which leads one to wonder if Kralkatorrik, Primordius, or the DSD won’t try to come to Orr and consume Zhaitan’s corpse (wherever it may lie). This would be assuming that it still held it’s magical power. Now obviously there is the threat of the pact, but one has to think that the pact wouldn’t be as much of a threat to an Elder Dragon as another Elder Dragon, and the amount of increased power to be gained from it would be astounding.

Note I only mention those three because of the great distance that Jormag would have to fly.
