Sylvari: Warm-"blooded" or cold?

Narcemus.1348

Which makes sense. Perhaps the Sylvari don’t have a sensory system like Mammals do when it comes to heat or cold, but they are still, in a way, affected by the cold. Whether it be through the cold slowing down their sap, or perhaps causing their muscles and such to contract together and making it harder to move.

Sadly that doesn’t seem possible. Between having the ability to create minions, and the existence of a reaper which claims Grenth is still around, I’m prettty sure Grenth still reigns over death, to some extent. Now to what extent, and whether or not Dhuum has awakened and is fighting Grenth is unknown.

That’s what I believed as well, but it always seemed strange to me that kourna wouldn’t have some sort of navy, having as much coastline as it did. I understand that it would pale in comparison to a country surrounded by water, but I would believe it would still exist.

Basically, we have no proof that they built anything substantial before Eye of the North, heck even in Eye of the North what they built wasn’t anything that would last 1,000 years. Not to mention, even if they did, when the humans pushed them out, I would expect humanity would destroy the charr structures to make room for structures of their own.

Narcemus.1348

Well, when you think about it, much of what we saw in the mists were corrupted fragments or the realms of gods. I mean Fissure of Woe was built to Balthazar’s liking, the Underworld to Grenth (since he changed it a bit after Dhuum was enchanted), the Realm of Torment was literally a prison for a god who went insane and warped the place to his vision, and the Hall of Heroes which was a location for the greatest of heroes. I have a feeling that places like these will eventually be released back into the game eventually, but at the moment what we are seeing are merely memories of Tyria. It may be that the other areas are impossible to get to without the permission of the gods that rule over them, or without ascension (which was required for Hall of Heroes).

Yes, there is actually a quest about that :P J/K

And I’m just saying, until ArenaNet comes out and says that Sylvari can never reproduce and would go extinct if all pale trees were destroyed, I will hold out hope. I mean for all we know it could be a limitation to the species while the pale tree still creates sylvari, but something would trigger and allow procreation if something were to happen with the pale tree. I mean honestly if the game developers want things to be possible or impossible they will make a way, and until they state something as an outright fact I will not believe it.

Well, I have to point out that the charr didn’t really have any architecture that we saw in Guild Wars. Most of what they have was centered around wooden barracades, and a few towers built with wood and steel wrapping. Their architecture was relatively non-existent/basic, because it was stuff built from scrap to meet their needs then and there. And you also have to remember that this was 1,000 years later. I’m pretty sure that prior to the human occupation of Ascalon, the charr were mostly nomadic, seeing as they called it their hunting grounds.

It would make more sense for Utopia to be part of the continent to the west of Tyria, or perhaps the land to the east of Elona. Honestly we’ll not know until we go there, if we go there. But honestly it makes little sense for it to be north or south too much further as you would be growing closer to the northern and southern poles.

Yes, but one has to wonder how long it takes a race to learn how to procreate. I mean the only thing that they have to go off of is the sex that they see those of other races having, but who says that this is the way in which plants reproduce? It seems quite possible that though they may have the reproductive organs that humans and other races have, these are merely for show, in the sense that their muscles and such are.

Yet Tyria is also a part of the Mists, somehow. We don’t know how they are connected due to the fact that we know Tyria has some sort of spacial relation with a moon, sun, stars, etc… it could be said that Tyria is the real world, and the Mists are connected to it. Though for all we know Tyria could just be a very large realm within the Mists and the objects that we know as outer space on earth could merely be illusions, or perhaps views into the other realms within the Mists. This is all theoretical, but as of this point in time, I have figured nothing out as to Tyria’s connection to the Mists except that much of it is through portals, and furthermore, that we know of, none of the races seem to have found a way to travel in space (unless you believe the crater in Fireheart to be a satellite).

I’d have to agree, expansions such as this would take loads of work, obviously not as much as the world itself in the beginning, but still. And it would more than likely include an in-game expansion, and based on what they are seen doing, it is very likely that the tengu will be involved in the expansion dealing with Primordius, seeing as they are fighting destroyers, supposedly, on both sides of the wall.

Perhaps there was more to be gained by capturing Caudecus and perhaps learning more about those others within the Ministry that mean Queen Jennah harm than there was in killing him and ending just 1 possible threat on her life. And I would agree, mind-control would be seen by anyone as an unethical invasion of privacy. It would be reacted to more likely no less than say Verata’s capture/kill/experimentation on Ascalonians in GW1. It is just plain wrong.

Charr should have been the main enemy. Undead are boring and repetitive.

Narcemus.1348

actually, to be honest… humans are the worst race in tyria, lore wise. they got magic and abused it. they killed for fun, for evil. they raided ascalon and took it from the charr (who were actually there first.. the gods created them), killing a lot of them in the process.

long story short, humans deserved it.

“Tyria flourished under the protection and the care of the gods. To aid them and serve as caretakers, the gods had servants – a race of serpentine creatures, now called the Forgotten. The Forgotten were meant to shepherd, teach, and care for the growing world, as well as the other beings that were to come.

It wasn’t long before Tyria was home to many: the charr, tengu, minotaur, dwarves, centaur and others. Finally, another race came to Tyria and they brought with them a desire for domination. They were humans.

Humans quickly spread and began to conquer all the lands they encountered.

… They clearcut jungles, preyed upon other creatures, and invaded the domains of the other races. This was when the humans drove the charr from their homeland, the region of Ascalon."

ascalon was and is 100% without a doubt charr homeland. the humans took that away from them. i completely understand them fighting for it back.

The only charr homeland is the one they came from. As was mentioned before the charr seized the land of Ascalon from other races that were weaker than them. The charr are no less ruthless than the humans. Now the human expansion was actually the actions of the gods, or at least 1 god in particular, Balthazar, who thought that the humans could easily subjugate the other races.

Another mention is the fact that the humans ‘misused’ the magic given by the gods, actually this is the other way. When the magic of the gods was given by Abaddon it was given to all races, and with enemies on all fronts this lead to massacre’s against the humans, as well as the other races. This is why King Doric, a human, went to the gods in Arah and asked them to take magic away.

On a side note, I have read nothing about the gods creating any race, with the exception of the Great Dwarf and the dwarves (which we could debate about for days). But in general, if anything, the gods may have brought races from other places within the mists, but there is never mention of straight up creation.

memser and warrior are the default classes for rulers in tyria, imo
I think Salma was also a mesmer, and I don’t recall her using her powers to regain her throne, rather having the shining blade and player character do the work for the most part
and @Bruno, that’s what I was trying to say. if she’s manipulating and killing her enemies, that’ll just create more
if she mind controlled caudecus, that would be suspicious that a known (if only subtely, and not outspoken) opponent to Jennah suddenly gave up fighting her or whatnot

Salma was a monk. Which I like to attribute her with the “healing” of Kryta.

I have a feeling that the story of Lazarus will most likely will be expanded upon at some time in the original Guild Wars Beyond content, that being said, I do not believe the mursaat plans have been scrapped, or that the only plans were the Arah dungeon. It just seems like way too much of a cop out, which ArenaNet doesn’t do. Plus with the White Mantle still being around in some sense it seems almost rediculous to say that the mursaat aren’t pulling their strings in any way, shape, or form.

Narcemus.1348

Well, there are no ‘children’ among the sylvari for the whole early greek thing to technically work. I think the issue here with the sylvari is that they haven’t had time to learn how to procreate. I mean this instinct you are talking about came from centuries of creatures mating with other creatures to figure out what worked. The sylvari have had around 23 years, and from what we can tell normal sexual acts from every other race’s standpoint don’t work for them. I mean they are plants, maybe they need to go and have bees pollenate them :P

I don’t mean to hijack the topic, but it has the same sort of meaning. Do we have any sort of reason for the sudden appearance of the giants in game? The giants that have appeared in areas in GW2 are so tall that our characters barely reach their mid shin. Has anyone found any lore on this?

Did Humans rule the world in GW1?

in Lore

Narcemus.1348

Elona probably still has humans, centaurs, hylek, and harpies, though the amount of still living creatures is unknown. We do not know that Joko has killed everything off, the story states that he forced the nations to surrender, but thinking from the mind of an undead lord, keeping creatures alive gives you a continuous source of prey for your undead army, as opposed to killing everything off and being stuck with the amount of undead that you have, eventually dwindling into nothingness as the dragons fight your forces. This is of course assuming that Kralkatorrik and Zhaitan’s minions are invading Elona.

Now Cantha is probably a lot more stable. We know that the humans went through a purge of the continent. The tengu left or died, but there are still creatures and such still there that it seems unlikely the army has been able to kill all off. There are the naga, saltspray dragons, kappa, wardens, dredge, fungal wallows, etc etc. When it comes down to it I have a feeling that the naga, dredge and tengu that stayed still exist to some extent and wouldn’t be surprised if they somehow allied together against their common enemy.

When I mentioned Janthir I was talking about the Eye of Janthir, not the island.

Yeah, I was coming to the realization that the Titans were not after the Mursaat while I was writing, if this was not noticeable. But honestly they did at least a good bit of work, cause I remember a large amount of Mursaat corpses in Mineral Springs and Tasca’s Demise, and more than likely they had a few scraps in the Maguuma Jungle as well while the Titans were organizing to attack the Henge of Denravi.

And I understand that the mursaat were powerless as it comes to spectral agony against the titans, but the humans were easily just as powerless, since they never had spectral agony in the first place, and even though you repel the attacks against Droknar’s and the Henge of Denravi, you get to the North Kryta Province one right after the titans had already attacked, so it makes less sense to me that the humans were able to muster similar armies as the mursaat had in Mineral Springs, but the humans succeeded where the mursaat failed.
