about 40% of the population is left since Aug 25. The ascend gear cost them aprox 30% at the time.
But the game continues to bleed people out at a fast rate.
Pve – Orr and all other zones are dead.
Dungeons dead uless it is fractals.
Pvp/Tpvp on life support at the moment
WvW a huge mess and outside of EB no one on those maps unless a T1.
The game is in trouble and Anet continue to make bad decisions.
I have sources just like others and also see/play the game + what people in the industry are saying.
Dont forget that the server status has nothing to do with how many are playing or active. It is just the amount of accounts tied to that server. CC eva said that in one of her posts.

Honestly if they were doing fantastic pop #’s would be front and center. All major MMO’s release pop #‘s although usually vague to a degree they are released.
Rift,Eve,Tor,Wow,LOTRO all release pop #’s.
The level 80 areas are impossible to solo. I think that this is part of their “anti-bot” strategy. It sucks because I solo alot to since I prefer open world over dungeons but I don’t think it is going to change. It is well documented that Anet expects players to party all the time. There are rewards (additional drop rates) for being in a party as well. No room for “lone wolves” in GW2!
Which zone is impossible to solo? I’m walking casually around all areas in Orr/Frostgorge without any problems… if anything they need to up the difficulty there, being an end-game zone and all.
Of course this happens afrer you learn your profession and start using “proper” builds. Once that happens and you get the hang of the zone AND your character you should be able to move around Orr while sleeping.
So let me get this straight, What you are saying is there are only cookie cutter builds that are viable and if you stray from those then you shouldnt be able to play the game? Excuse me, then why the build structure at all then? Why not lock everyone into a particular build and forgo the ability to customize your character at all. The fact that I can destroy a normal mob in mere seconds and can take on any veteran mob without worry of ever dying tells me that my build is pretty decent. Yet when it comes to risen and risen ONLY, do I have issues where I can die in mere seconds. My gear is decent, my weapons seem decent, nothing has changed from the entire rest of the game with the exception of the risen being stupidly over powered (which they have been the entire game as well). I watched an interview just earlier today where they talked about not changing the game at 80 (which I am only 78 right now) compared to how it was as you leveled, but that is exactly what they have done in these end zones. We are not even talking about dungeons or whatnot, just the open world.
Anet did and it has showed very blatantly. Role a warrior since they get buffed and never nerfed. Wonder why that is. They wrecked the balance of the game in favor of 1 class.
Then they made the best gear and loot in 1 place fractals.
So yes they did do just that and locked other people out. Ever wonder why a warrior can charge into 10 risen while every other profession has to take 1 out at a time?
I dont know why they did it, my source never told me. But it is very obvious that they turned this game into 1 cookie cutter build with warr profession standing around looking for fractals level X (not with the patch now).
That is how and with what profession Anet wants you to play this game. The sooner you realize that the happier you will be.
And by the way everything they said before and interviews are not to be believed or can change at any time look at ascend gear and massive in game grind has become.
SO really dont worry once you hit 80 just do what they want you to and earn gold. Do fractals till your fingers bleed. I will tell you that you get 0 loot in orr- I use to get 4-5 rares from plinx run now I get 0 and porous bones.
I wish you luck in the future but Orr isnt hard just a Pita and the spawn timers are out of whack. If your not a warrior dont do the champs.
PS I play a thief – the most nerfed class in the game.
They already let you buy the BIS weapons legendaries from the TP. Just buy gems and →gold.
They will always be bumped to best in slot with new tiers so that is a huge advantage. You can buy this at level 1 if you want.
Everything can be bought in this game already with real money.
All they need to do now is make it so legendaries in the gem shop have better stats and purchased with real money only. You deserve a bonus if you support Anet outside the box price and better stats is a nice way to do it.
Under the guise of challenging they made it annoying instead. I noticed it very much when I was out in other areas then went into Orr. They hit much harder and have every type of CC available. The mobs just arent fun but a huge PITA and the respond timers are out of whack. Since Fracs no one is in Orr anymore (been on 3 servers now) and doing it solo is well meh. And then you get porous bones for killing them. PLinx ect nets porous bones. I use to get rares and stuff now I cant even pay for my waypoints.
Slightly yes by 3% or so due to the game of the year awards and christmas. They did 15 days ago increase the server capacity that makes it seem like it as well.
But the truth is they have lost 65% of the population since the launch.
The locusts left in Sept.
WvW is stale in unless in T1 never a Q
Spvp and Tpvp are on total life support.
Then came Ascend gear – That lost 30% of the pop right there.
Now there is the loot downgrades the constant changing of the goal posts.
And frankly some of the worst management of a game from a design studio I have seen with the exception of TOR it is on par with Bioware right now.
Revenue is being squeezed out of every non dungeon player. For some reason Anet went against what they thought and put the best gear and loot in one place and made it available at one place and gated the content. They then went out and killed open world loot to force people to buy gems to keep up with the dungeon runners.
What you see now is up upswing for holidays about 10% pop increase (returning players not the 3% new accounts) for a few days then people exodus again as they see Anet hasnt fixed the issues they left about.
It was the same with Halloween.
The game is in trouble yes. No not critically yet but I do predict that with the epic new content in FEB that there will be a F2P announcement to bring in new accounts and increase the revenue stream as they have bled the non dungeon runners dry.
Open worlds are empty and barren and DE’s are solo or arent done. Really sad.
WvW – borderlands are always outmanned/breakout event constantly ready. Bad
– EB still manageable and fun at times but the only place to fight. Sad
Spvp -4 hours a day can you get a hot join match
Tpvp – dead – no one does them any more.
Dungeons – seems ok somewhat. Use the lfg site and map chat. Still non fractal is next to impossible to do.
Yes they come back from this but it will take a significant effort and they must listen to the community instead of trying to silence them. Most people here want the best game possible but when the devs constantly attack you as a player you wonder why bother.

Legendaries are supposed to be the highest achievement a player can get, a culmination of all their hardwork, and yet it’s purchasable with actually money (regardless of how much)? Terrible decision in my opinion.
Regardless of whether or not it’s horizontal progression or vertical progression, buying legendaries off the TP is Pay2Win.
What are you winning if you purchase a Legendary off the TP? A fashion show? Don’t be ridiculous, anyone who would have the gold to afford a Legendary, most certainly earned it.
Um I dont think so. It means you payed money for gems or bought from goldsellers. Maybe they exploited and have 10000g in their account. Now some have earned that much legitimately I dont think that is a large %.
So no I dont think they earned it. Using money shows what exactly? It doesnt mean they were dedicated or skillful or finished some herculean task to obtain it. They used their CC. (Not all of course but I would wager a majority).
And what you are buying is a BIS weapon that will be perpetually bumped to BIS no mater what forever. I suggest you look at Lindsey Marshalls post. It will be a grind free upgrade no matter what content is released. That is a huge advantage alone and a must for any long term player.
The short answer is NO it wont.
Anet prefer a certain type of player and that is who they want playing the game. It is very obvious to see that.
Also it seems that they will starve all other players into buying gems in order to keep up with their preferred player.
As more people continue to leave the game they will squeeze harder for the revenue stream all the while placating and helping their preferred players.
It really is sad to have seen over 60 +% of the pop leave the game starting with locusts at the end of sept to ascend catastrophe, Pvp and now loot tables.
The game is at a critical state and they deny that there is an issue while buffing the loot in fractals.
I fully expect that with their epic new content in feb that there will be a F2P announcement in order to increase the population and increase the revenue streams again as the last batch of gamers have been bled out. (prediction)
I cant afford to waypoint and since my open world loot =0 I just log in do my trades and log off. I dont play the game. That is a kitten indictment for this game as there are others out there just like me. My patients wears out and I move on.
I honestly think that they would rather lose players than increase the loot tables as sad as that sounds. The Bots were just an excuse to implement it and continue to drive players to buy gems all the while rewarding the most preferred and dedicated players.
Just how I have seen things since early beta to past the ama. I know it is way too late for this but I was willing to pay a sub fee of $25/month for a pre Nov 15 patch server.
How sad is that Lol. To play how I wanted to play without DR and without ascend.

Legendary weapons are not just vanity items anymore.
People seem to keep forgetting that little bit of information.This is what Lindsey Murdock had to say on it:
You’ll also see more Legendary items in the future and an update to our existing Legendary weapons. Legendary items were always intended to be on par with other “best-in-slot” items. So fear not, all existing Legendary weapons, which are currently on par with Exotics, will be upgraded to be on par with Ascended weapons at the same time that we add Ascended weapons to the game. Thus Legendaries will remain “best-in-slot” items. All Legendary items going forward will be of Ascended power.
Now, as I, and I am sure many others, have no use for ascended weapons or armor at all, because we don’t do that Fractal crap, Legendary weapons are not just pretty weapons anymore but an actual tier that will get better and better over time thus making them the exact opposite of a vanity item.
I agree they have gone way beyond vanity. They are mandatory for long term player because it reduces the grind. I suspect that Ascend weapons will be RNG dungeon nightmare crap and hard/grind to obtain but is negated by the perpetual bump to BIS even if agony is added.
So if you have one now you have BIS forever no more grind required. That is a huge advantage. It is a sad and sorry state of affairs than what it started out as. But Anet always prefer certain players over others.
It isnt based on merit or skill or time. But gold, exploitability and RNG. Everything a legendary should stand for is the stark opposite in this game and I just dont understand why ANet let it be like this.
You would think that they would reward those who commit time,effort,skill and dedication to get the best the game has to offer but this isnt the case here at all. Here it is all about gold and RNG.

0! I dont get any open world loot or drops even when changing zones ect so now all I do is log in make my trades on the TP and log off. I dont play the game anymore. It is unfortunate that I cant make enough to cover waypointing let a lone making a surplus gold to buy/upgrade stuff.
No I just think Anet hates certain player and certain player types. I think that has been quite evident in the nerfs in both open world loot and personal profession and skills.
Also look at what armour ect is left out as well that points in the same direction.

Do fractals and only fractals. They are a dungeon in Lions arch. They have the best loot drops and best gear ascend.
Anet funneled everyone to them killing the rest of the world off.
Spvp and Tpvp are on life support and they need to pull the plug.
WvW is stale and old and wrecked by design choices.
When it goes FTP in Feb some new life will be put back in but it is waiting till then.
Basically open world – no loot drops and what loot does drop doesnt come close to the fractals. So I hope you are a pver and love dungeons over and over and over and over again.
Or like me I play the TP now and NOT the game. I log in do my trades and log off. Because there is no fun in playing my way and Anet refuses to reward me for going out exploring and killing in many zones.
PS Karma highway has been nerfed to the ground as well and timer set very high.

Ascend is the gear grind treadmill anet put in after they said they wouldnt and Mike O kinda threw GW1 under the bus and wizzed on it so some people are touchy about it around here. They lost 30% of the pop over that one and with the loot nerfs ect it has dropped way beyond that and that is why drastic measures are incoming.

But separating them seems sensible. I like most things except dung but I dont care. But if it anything like how I feel about exploration and getting 100%. Then understand how a player feels when forced to do something they really hate to receive a reward.

I think that there is an advantage to legendary weapons. They are grind proof. Anet stated that they will continue to be BIS no matter what in perpetuity including agony ect. So the stat bumps will continue whenever a new tier of gear is released which is about 7 months.
Since we dont know how hard the new weapons will be to obtain I expect it to be like now in fracs. RNG dungeon running only.
I see that as a huge advantage over someone who doesnt have one.
So if someone wants to buy that advantage I say let them. It means they probably got gems ->gold for it.
I would also like to see it in the cash shop with a little bump in stats over others cause it is also purchased with RLmoney.
You should get a bonus for supporting anet and giving them real money outside the box fee.
(like ascend gear – the stat boost is meaningless so a RLM Legendary has a meaningless stat boost as well)

I just realized that this is another delay tactic. I think their metrics showed people quitting because of this issue. So in order to continue the charade of “finding the truth” they keep it going.
Delaying it even further and further hoping that people will say OK great now something is going to happen. The reality is they have no intention of doing a kitten thing but placating some gamers.

When I ran the plinx chain I use to get 3-4 rares per run. Now I get 0.

I agree with you but I think it continue to fall on deaf ears. They decided to reduce the drops to the point where you are forced to play the TP for 99% of the game just to make enough gold to get ahead.
I would prefer to play the game and have fun not spend all my time spreadsheeting and trying to make margin just so I can waypoint.
This squeezing is to force people to use RLMoney to get gems and convert to gold and boost revenue. I dont think it has had anything to do with the botters whatsoever and that was simply the reason they used to introduce the mechanic to the game.Something we would swallow without putting up a fight.
I also think it has run a muck because some people get all the great loot drops and some get nothing (me).It seems like there is something tagged to your account or something and nothing can shake it off. Leave for a week and return it is still there, changes zones – nope still bad loot.

No I dont believe they read the forums every day at all.I don’t think they’re ignoring it par-se, I personally think the executive made a business decision which was contrary to the game’s stated mandate as well as contrary to the November 15th patch notes. Further to that, I think the executive has gagged the staff and has forbidden them from commenting on the issue. Executives, especially those in publicly traded companies who have to answer to share-holders, often tend to be notoriously short-sighted. Big win now, with no real sustainability plan. At some point, major gaming press such as PC Gamer or IGN will pick up on this issue, just like happened with D3, and it will mean a lot of bad press for GW2 and ArenaNet as a whole.

For all those interested, the Steam Xmas event started today.
True never thought of the gag order. I have been guilty of some of those decisions myself but never a gag order (not game company). They were very good at communicating up to the 15th that it never entered my mind that it wouldnt be spoken about. lol.
Mybe I will start to raise a stink outside the forums then hit the other sites since they are now starting to look at the game in a critical fashion. Especially since some have noticed the massive drop in pops.

It is really sad that they are allowed to keep their ill gotten gains and continue playing while those of us who struggle to get but get worse because of DR and loot nerfs. They wont be banned cause they need the players. I wish there was a 0 tolerance to this stuff.
Yup sad to say that was the last communication from them and it wasnt on their official forums. I have totally lost hope in them and dont think they have a clue at what they are doing. They cant communicate with us either.
I will keep playing for a little longer because of my guild but think there are much better games on the horizon I am gone.
I am left with playing the TP and not the game to make money. Imagine that I dont play for fun but the market because I dont get drops to make money. That alone states how bad this game is.

You have a never ending treadmill call infusions. They will continue to get stronger and stronger and force you to buy new shinies every few months.
You will be able to only get these in dungeons and no where else. You will have that advantage and the statistical advantage that ascend gear gives you over exotic.

VP is not bad at all – Most of the community wasnt expecting it is all.
GW2 takes the best of GW1 and throws it under the bus and driver (mike) gets out and wizzes on it. (calling it a stagnant pile)
I think that is why there is a whole lot of animosity in the forums about this people generally feel betrayed buy it.
So dont take the hostility personal it just poeple.
Personally, I dont like it at all – not why I wanted to play the game but I have a good guild and a couple of friends left that still play.

Ya they said the would correlate the information for us so we could find it easier. Basically I have come to the conclusion that they simply incapable of writing or articulating words because I havent seen an anet DEV post in any of the threads I have posted in or viewed since Nov 14 post about the ascend armour. After that I have seen dead silence and that is horrific especially in thier game forum.

How about reinstating open world loot again? Stop handing everything to the dungeon runners.
They force you to play the way they want you to -not the way you want and have fun. You do it their way or you get nothing in return.
I am sorry but the dungeon grinders have it awesome right now with the loot. I get Jack kitten for all my time and they come away with gold? right ok this is going to work.

Hard to say for me I have been spending my time playing the TP instead of the game just trying to get ahead and it isnt fun at all.
I think they nerfed everything hard multiple times and open world loot especially. It seems the only way other then spending all your time buying and selling is frac dungeon. That is the one and only place to get loot and rewards.
Last time I got one I had karma jug and that is about it so I dont bother.
It is frustrating that you only get rewarded by doing what they want or running your cc for gems. bad.

I have to admit this was a pita for me. Unless you went and stuck right to the wall and followed it – it doesnt pop up. What a huge amount of frustration for something so stupid. How about it ask when in the vicinity? or is that just too much to ask of devs these days.
I would just wait a few weeks and farm gold. It will soon be up on the TP for sale so you dont even have to grind for it if you dont want to. I expect to see every legendary for sale for about 1200 gold as bifrost now is.
They have made the mistake that these are mandatory because they will always be BIS and no matter how many expansion and gear changes Anet will always increase Legendaries to be the best in slot so future proofing the grind. It is far beyond aesthetics at this point. It is a very clear advantage in gear to have them.
And once again the rich and exploiters have the advantage over casual gamers.
As sad as this is I spend the majority of my time playing the TP trying to make money cause I cant do it in game or open world. That is kitten and stupid that I must spend hours and hours a day playing the market to survive. I want to have fun kill things and stuff but I dont get any rewards and have to play the TP.

I am having issues where it eats the money and items at times. I have gold waiting and go and pick it up. Zone out to WvW and back (easy way for me) and bang nothing transferred out and now I am out gold ect and items.
You guys have nerfed open world loot that I cant make any money doing that and force me to play the TP and now your eating that as well. I mean what more do you want? I cant trust you to do this so there is no kitten way I will ever buy gems.
Populations dropping bugs all over and DR forcing me to buy gems if I want to keep up with the dungeon grinders cause that is the only way to make gold. The game is in trouble and will be f2p in Feb.

I expect that in Feb with the release of the epic new content there will be a free to play announcement in order to bring in the people.They continue to manipulate the TP and gem prices so they will continue to squeeze anyone with a credit card for as long as they can.

It will be interesting if the new make over effects us as well (open worlders). They seem content to keep giving themselves paper cuts a la swimming with sharks.
Ya I came back yesterday and man doing exploration and I got nothing really bad. If I wasnt going for 100% I would never go out into the open events. In full MF jewels and all. A couple of greens.

At least it is in the open now. Before it was just purchased from gold sellers. Yes people have that much and more in gold. They already have their legendaries. wonder who the sucker will be?
Or they leave and ask for a refund then he loses cause they go out and spread bad press about the evils of the corporation and how bad it is run. EA anyone? SWG?
This game will be F2P in Feb if the pop keeps going so it wont matter really will it. He will have done it all himself.

extra stats are not normal.
They are unique weapon skins that brag to anyone who sees them how B—A— you are, just like the arah gear did before.
You doing fractals is supposed to sate and demonstrate your requirement for skill-based combat.
If you are asking that fractals and only fractals provide you with a statistical advantage over your fellow player, you have a lot of self-examination to do.
No, I think he will be rewarded actually. They havent lived up to anything they said in the ama and how hard would it have been to add an ascend vendor ect? Very little just adjust badge/karma and bingo away they go.
But no there is continued reduced loot drops (rates) in the open world and fractals get a buff in loot. It tells me he will be rewarded for doing that over and over with better stats.
I fully expect Jan to have a release of new gear in dungeons and they will not allow it be made available outside it. Because it should have been already made available.
The balance team(2 people Lol) has already started the shifting of balance per toon in order to force people to roll alts. There is now a dungeon grind where only the best loot will be made available. See where this is going? I do and dont like it.

I would love it so I dont have an added extra grind of levels if the devs would add a race and class change to the store. I would like that very much.
Rune of the pirate all of them give you a tropical bird not exactly what you want but something else. It is on like at 5% chance I forget right now.
Something else to keep in mind for a winged bird.

I agree the art and graphics are fantastic. The engine is damn nice too but they have culling and I would like it disabled.I do have a high end machine and can do it.
It is a very nice world in that artistic sense even orr save the orrians themselves.
I had a blast up to 80 and really liked it even a little after 80 too. I did it twice a thief and an engi – like the thief the best myself – I just liked how it worked.
If I say anything else it will be negative so I shall stop there.
It means that if you dont farm fracs 24/7 you cant afford to do anything or you can buy gems to keep up. Your choice- grind/farm or pay the piper which will it be for you?
PS dont try open world loot drops they are horrific and take 5X longer. You arent finding this fun? I thought thats why they did it.
I agree they need to slow down and take care of things now.
This is not a casuals persons game – it is a grinders game simple -
BIS gear and loot is 1 place fracs.
They nerfed loot drops and have forced casuals to purchase gems →gold in order to just keep up with the grinders or fall behind. This isnt going so well and the greed is showing.
Bots have ruined the economy and will always have an edge until Anet decides to undercut them killing the economy further.
I would have happily payed $25/mon for a pre Nov 15 game with no DR. But I think it is a lost cause. I hope they do pull out of it cause I did enjoy this game and dont want it to go F2P.
OMG lawl, this change is awesome. It perfectly illustrates how bad AN developers are when it comes to game design. Came back to look at Christmas stuff. Awesome art department. Too bad they didn’t hire any actual designers or programmers. Will be fun looking around Sunday and Wednesday then back to WoW for a real game.
I have to agree because they havent added Ascend vendors anywhere and people are still forced to grind 1 dungeon over and over for gear/loot. Over 1 month and still going – that is some bad decision making funneling everyone to 1 point killing everything else in the game.
It is a real shame too cause it was a great game just some serious bad calls and forcing people to buy gems to keep up or grind fracs all day doesnt help either.

There have been many threads about this and yes they have and no they wont tell you.
People have been asking for over a month now with nothing. Nothing accidental about this, it is a sound business strategy. Force people to buy gems to keep up or fall behind.
The only way to make money other than buying gems is fractals (or TP). That is how they want it. To squeeze the legit players into spending money or running the dungeon until your eyes and fingers bleed. I dont blame them just wish they actually cared.

Ya the population has gone south fast. Especially after the Nov 15th patch and Ascend. Add on top of that the open world loot nerf – Pve is almost dead except frac dungeon where you get gear and loot. Really bad design decision especially since they said it would be available elsewhere.
Spvp is OK for now and still get hotjoin. TPVP is toast right now.
WvW – Toast as well because there have been no updates and it has grown stale and stagnate.
Overall pop is low and I expect to see a free to play announcement with the Epic expansion type content in February in order to entice new people and old gamers as well.

What the real issue is :
Anet nerfed open world loot drops and increased timers on events in orr in order to make people buy gems to convert to gold.
Because the only place to get gold and teh awesome gear is to grind fracs over and over and over you stay in LA. They funneled everyone to 1 thing.
So if you dont do dungeons and do open world stuff you spend 5X the work and time for the reward and by consequence give up.
They let the game stagnate so that people will buy gems and convert to gold or grind fracs.
