Unless something has changed in the last week, GW2 has never done that. It was always dumps you into a lower population map if you were in a full/high one
I did some googling and this was just posted on Reddit:
“As long as you go back to the same instance of the same map, there is a long grace period you can return already built in. Mega servers attempt to save your slot as well so if you disconnect you can return in a reasonable window.
We don’t let you keep participation in other instances of the same map to prevent stuff like map hop farming with top participation.”
Okay, cool, so they just need to fix the system, not put an entirely new one in place.
I had noticed that i kept participation if i briefly hopped into pvp lobby to use bank or etc. At least i know now that will only work if i can get back into the same map.
I had no idea they’d even changed this. Since release, anytime i get kicked out, i’ve gotten a new instance.
It’s stupid and very frustrating.
I’m not sure if herald really counts, but i do like the revenant in general.
i just wish we had a full set of underwater legends.
The moment it split, the event greyed out.
make level 21 characters , park them at a chest of JP puzzle .. open chest every day
im getting 10-15 silver doubloon per week
Go with Weyandt’s Revenge, it has two drops with the potential to be a doubloon compared to one anywhere else. The drop rate seems to be about 1 in 15, so each character parked there will get about 1 a week.
This is characteristic of any magnificent chest.
I have a rotation of JPs i run through daily on my lvl 24. It nets me 1-3 doubloons every day.
i saw a 149 yesterday.
i think it’s probably a very simple technical reason – you can’t earn mastery on a higher tier track until you have fully trained the lower one.
So even though you’ve filled up the exp bar, you still can’t begin earning exp towards the higher tier mastery until you’ve sunk the points into the lower tier track. That overflow exp has to go somewhere though.
“finally”
for real, though, nice work!
I want a ‘suppress action camera’ keybind separate from the actual toggle. Like, you hold it down, and you can move the action cursor without moving the screen. you let go of the key and it snaps back.
also:
2. With action camera active, when you’re autoattacking a target that you’ve locked onto but your crosshair isn’t aiming at that target, autoattack stops. All abilities prioritize targets beneath your crosshair even if you’ve locked onto something else.
I use action camera a lot for revenant hammer (it’s too cumbersome for melee weapons though) and it’s very useful to be able to aim the hammer through a clump of enemies manually. The #2 doesn’t work as well as the auto, but its still very nice to be able to manually aim without a target lock. However i do agree that auto needs to continue if normal conditions are met – in normal camera, you don’t need to be pointing directly at the for your attacks to continue to track them, just as long as they’re still in that frontal arc (135 or 180 degrees, i can’t tell). This lets you strafe to avoid attacks while still putting out damage. It’s an important feature.
as it soulbinds automatically, it’s added to wardrobe without even needing to salvage.
I think OP is (justly) lamenting the loss of a full suit of free stat selectable exotics.
Does it have a dedicated stat set?
I’m very glad i didn’t try to open that chest on the character i got it on now. Actually it probably won’t even go to my revenant if it’s stat switchable – i might give my zerker some more gear.
people throw that word around a lot on the forums – grinding. I’m not sure if you’ve ever used a grinder but the reason for the association is that its a very monotonous activity characterised by doing a single action, sometimes for an extended period of time.
Thats your definition, others define it more broadly.
I feel like a lot of people equate grinding to ‘putting in any effort at all’
hm. i hope this gets addressed, then. having to lower graphics settings for some reason other than hardware constraints seems a little silly.
Was worth the full price of the expansion for Tangled Depths alone.
But then dragon’s strand sucks and the whole map consists of 3 linear paths.
If you average it out they make two normal decent maps.
I feel like dragonstand is there to cater to the people who liked doing SW. Don’t get me wrong, i love the map, but the meta there seems a little… unenticing
i agree 100% on tangled, though, and gliding around the canopy of verdant brink is just AMAZING (if a little difficult at daytime)
Noone else has had any issues with this?
is there some graphical setting i can change to improve my experience?
It’s a lot. The maps are all very intricately designed (both aesthetically & mechanically) and just learning their ins and outs will take a lot of playtime.
Oooh, the final level Fractal Capacitor could work too…
The ring breaks apart into shards connected by wisps of mist (like the weapons) and leaves the same trail as the weapons do when you glide
Event Participation Timeout - Is There A Fix?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

I keep getting the message for events I’m not participating in.
But I definitely see the problem people keep running into.
And I think what needs to happen is the higher your participation (they have a meter for it now) the longer your timeout should be.
Tag-n-run? Yours expires fairly quickly.
Spend 30 minutes soloing an event chain before dying? You could take a nap on your way back and still get credit. Then they just need to address participation credit/reward on disconnect.
The criteria for getting silver over bronze and gold over silver has been made less forgiving, too, which i think is a step in the right direction. It should certainly affect your mapwide participation gauge what level of contribution you get for an event, and i’ve gone so far as to suggest in the past adding in a Platinum level event accomplishment for majorly better rewards even than gold, and available only if you were present for at least 2/3 or 3/4 of the events run time and provided an equal-or-greater level of contribution to anyone else present.
Though i really think, if you contributed to an event – at all, in any way, shape or form – that should be recognised. Why should your contribution become less meaningful over time? events scale down after players leave their are anyway.
I see lots still complaining even with 250…this is meant to be “elite” people. I don’t necessarily even think 400 was unreasonable, though I am happier with 250. That said, for all those with several alts, including myself, soon to have 4×80s and I know others have many more, you CANNOT expect to unlock elite specs on a necromancer and automagically expect them to be given to you for your warrior or mesmer. The argument about being blocked behind masteries falls flat since masteries are account bound and only have to be done once and all your alts can use them. Something that might be a workable compromise, and I mentioned this in another thread, is to have the elite spec profession bound that you only have to unlock it once per profession, but even that seems like a bit of a shortcut to me….why should it be free?
The whole masteries thing is what will/would have made it easier on alts. Once you have completex your first run through, you will have unlocked a great deal of the previously inaccessible Hero challenges and your alts will pick them up much more easily. Of course if you start HoT on a character which has never earned a hero point in their (probably sub-hour) life you are going to struggle to reach the target (be it 250 or the better 400). You used a sanctioned means to skip over the lower level content; this is the price you pay. If everything were free it loses a great deal of its appeal.
I’ve seen so many complaints by people wailing about “how will i unlock my elite spec on my 27th toon?” – you do so by playing them. like any other character. If you forget this idea that you cannot play Heart of Thorns without using your ‘elite’ spec and just actually play through it, doing events as you come across them, skill points as they are nearby, unlocking the map as you go – you will very quickly find that you have your entire elite unlocked. Especially if you have actually played that character out in the world for any length of time.
The class i’m most struggling to unlock is druid. My ranger was my 8th 80 and a great deal of his levelling i did in the labrynth, last halloween. Now, of course, that means no world completion to speak of which means no hero challenges. I skipped over the intended levelling system; this is the price i pay. If i actually had spent time playing this character beyond 80, i’d surely have gotten more hero points. again; the price i pay.
You cannot expect to unlock elite specialisation on a character you were not, are not, and never will be willing to invest the time to actually play.
…at least not right away. I’d have been a lot more comfortable with this hero point reduction had it come 1-3 months down the track when the content is no longer so new and exciting just for its novelty. I fully anticipate ANet will add something in which will allow you to expend resources to unlock on an alt some or all the hero challenges you have acquired on your main.

Event Participation Timeout - Is There A Fix?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

It’s a dumb solution to a non-problem. With the experience requirements for masteries, not to mention the extra loot of actually killing enemies, afking is not going to be nearly such a problem (and i barely noticed it ever, before).
By all means keep the code for the system in place in case it ever does become significant enough to warrant drastic measures but right now it’s not needed and definitely not wanted. And it could be dealt with a lot better than this sloppy band-aid of a fix anyway.
As someone who has all four ascended skins (green, blue, red, & the unmodified orange) i would LOVE to see these as gliders!
Going with the theme of backpieces helping you glide, though, here are some others i want to see:
-Mawdrey! We put a great deal of effort into crafting it, and there are mordrem with ‘wings’ presumably made out of vines. When you deploy your glider, a tangle of purple/white vines grow out into a configuration like the struts of a glider with a leaf-like membrane stretched between them.
-Light of Dwayna: It already has little wings, but when you start gliding, large translucent angel wings would appear behind your character.
-Shadow of Grenth: In keeping with the Light of Dwayna, this would extend wing-like swirls of icy mist behind your character while in flight.
Any other cool backpieces that could be turned into gliders?
I find that in action camera mode i spend too much time looking straight forward from right behind my character. This is fine sometimes, but generally i prefer a slightly higher view angle which means my crosshair is aimed right down into the dirt. It seems like this idea would fix this.
Another action camera feature i’d like, though, is an override key – my brain expects it to be alt, and i even attempt to use it already. Basically, while holding it down, the crosshair for action camera ceases to be locked and can be moved to target/click on/aim attacks elsewhere than the centre of the screen.
Is there any way this could be implemented?
Imagine that all the content of this expansion were reduced to be obtainable immediately, or after the most minimal participation. You do a single hero challenge and can fully unlock your elite spec. Unlock your elite spec and immediately have the Ascended item associated with it. Open a single crate of airship salvage and you can afford to buy everything obtainable with the currency.
Do you feel any incentive to do anything anymore? I sure wouldn’t.Ah, so you wouldn’t like to play through the storyline to see what happens next?
You wouldn’t like to explore the maps and see what’s actually in them?
You wouldn’t like to see the game’s art or hear the new soundtracks?
You would take that “more content now than there has ever been before” and completely ignore it just because it wouldn’t give you any new reward?
After all my talk about repeatable content, this is what you take away? talk about soundbite…
I absolutely would play through – once. Every living story mission (barring perhaps that stupid centaur one-) was immensely fun simply for the sake of it, but the rewards are what has led me to take every alt through it and i fully intend to put my rev through her paces too once she finishes up the personal story.
So yep, by your own words, you are not playing the game – you are grinding the game just to get rewards. It’s easy to understand that you would feel cheated if those rewards were made easier to acquire, but I’m sorry to say – it’s not that ArenaNet has wasted your time, you are wasting your time doing something you don’t enjoy for meaningless rewards.
people throw that word around a lot on the forums – grinding. I’m not sure if you’ve ever used a grinder but the reason for the association is that its a very monotonous activity characterised by doing a single action, sometimes for an extended period of time.
The only thing i can think of in the game that could draw a literal comparison is afking on the easier world bosses, where you legitimately only do a single thing for an extended amount of time.
If, on the other hand, you consider something like the silverwastes… however monotonous you might have found it to do the meta event there, there’s really no sense in which you can call it grinding without utterly mutilating the proper definition of the word.
I don’t consider the gameplay of the new zones the least bit ‘grindy’ even insofar as the term could be applied in the sense that people usually use it. As to meaningless rewards… Well, they weren’t, until this change. I still enjoy the activities (i’ve helped several guildies do the hero points or other elements of map completion, and begun bringing my other characters into HoT zones) – i only take issue with the rewards being useless.
An activity which rewards you with something you have no use for is less rewarding than one which offers no reward save the experience of doing it.
I have a legendary sword. Do you know what I would feel if everyone woke up with the same sword in their inventory, without doing any “work” for it?
Nothing.
I don’t have any delusion about an item giving me “prestige” or “exclusivity” in a game. And just because I did something that took a long time, it doesn’t mean everyone has to also wait a long time. I got the sword because I like the skin – and the skin won’t change, no matter if there are 1, 100 or 1.000.000 of that sword around, or it other people got it after 1 or after 10.000 days.
That’s a healthy response – I wasn’t wasting my time through an experience I didn’t enjoy so I would regret if the reward in the end had changed. Can you honestly say the same?
Actually… yes! yes i can. I made my own Sunrise a good couple of years down the track – i suppose if i was looking for prestige i would have gone for Twilight, since it seems generally regarded as the ‘better’ legendary, and Dusk was the precursor i had drop, but i much prefer the skybox of Sunrise.
Since i waited so long to make it, it wasn’t exactly an uncommon sight around the place – honestly, my ascended rifle is probably a much rarer skin, and i’ve even transmogged that away to something i felt suited my character’s theme better.
(edited by Narrrz.7532)
Still getting random crashes…
are you right up in the sky? looking for them amongst the clouds? surrounded by white mist glowing from the daytime sun?
it’s just about impossible, especially for the really small ones.
Edit: example (this is one of the MORE visible ones)
edit2: try spotting that against that bright white patch there
edit3: trust me… it’s there
(edited by Narrrz.7532)
in the canopy over verdant brink during the daytime, these are very difficult to make out against the… general white swirliness.
Could they somehow be made more noticeble specifically when gliding? something to contrast them better against whatever background they’re against.
a kind of tongue in cheek title woudl be kinda neat. “elitist”
There’s next to no content.
If you genuinely think that, then i think this might not be the game for you.
There is more content now than there has ever been before. It’s not like any of the old content has gone away, and the new content takes the features of all the old content and extends them, expands upon them.
And unlike the expansions of basically every other game of this type, it does so without making the old content irrelevant.
If you actually enjoyed doing those things, and had fun doing them, fun would be your reward and you would feel no need to receive anything more.
That’s a facetious argument. You can enjoy the journey and still desire to reach the destination. The reward is what makes the content repeatable.
If you actually don’t enjoy doing those things and were doing something you don’t enjoy just for the reward you would get at the end, sorry, you were grinding as if GW2 were a (bad) job. You don’t really deserve a reward for that.
I hope you realise that that is your opinion. As it happened, i was enjoying everything i did (hence my choice to play this game) but having a satisfying reward increases the sense of achievement. I recognise that perhaps the 400 hero point grind was excessive, but how many of you had even fully explored all the maps before you started posting about it being too much?
I still haven’t fully explored everything, and definitely haven’t even begun to complete in everything there is to do and i had my Rev’s elite spec more than 75% unlocked.
I understand the desire to have everything for a reasonable amount but the amount of effort you put into obtaining something correlates highly with the satisfaction you derive from obtaining that thing.
Take this trend to its logical extreme.
I sure wouldn’t.
And don’t kid yourself, players want to play with fully unlocked elite specs when they say they want to play with elite specs before anyone claims that that was possible before the change.
I contest that the people who actually wanted to play with their elite specs went out and unlocked or began unlocking hero points for them as soon as they knew they wanted it. Even before i knew it was going to cost 400 hero points i started (and finished) a fourth world completion on my necromancer so that i’d have access to it as soon as physically feasible.
People who actually want things go out and do what it takes to get them. people who merely feel they should have something, or perhaps feel they are entitled to that thing, they are the people who have been complaining.
So? What’s with the “I have more currency than I can spend this instant I need a sink!!1”
There’ll be more elite specs, and I imagine the “leftover” HP will be factored into that process somewhere and we’ll be back to complaining we don’t have enough.
And the new content which provides them will offer enough hero points to get them.
What will i do with the extra hero points when that content gets scaled back as well?
I don’t know how you ‘play’ the game, but i like having certain objectives set for me to ‘work’ towards (thank you english language). That’s what i call ‘playing’ the game.
Problem with that in regard to abilities as has been stated many times and by Colin that you reach the the objective at the end and can’t play the content with the cool new spec.
That’s why all the content is repeatable. You do the exciting exploration stuff while it’s new, get your elite spec as a reward, and then can play about on the maps’ repeatable content with your fancy new spec.
What everyone seemed to want was their fancy spec to do the exploration stuff (with no real reason to bother with it after you’ve unlocked your spec) so they can then complain there’s no content when they’re done.
watch. next week the complaints will start.
K and by the same token I’ll expect all the undeserving 10s to be updated as well.
This change has definitely knocked it down from the 9 i initially gave it. An 8, maybe a 7.5 now, i think.
Giving you a tangible, useful reward for doing the content provided is good design. Making that reward obsolete within less than a week of release… not so good
I understand but I don’t have time to play all day everyday, I work monday to friday 9am-5pm
Nope.
In reality…
There is no recognition for putting in the hard work
…You work more than just monday to friday 9am-5pm. And that’s because you made the mistake of working in a game as opposed to playing a game. The fact you feel you are not recognised enough for the effort you did is actually very much deserved – you didn’t do anything that deserves recognition, you basically wasted time you could have spent having fun.
This is one of the main reasons why so many MMORPGs are such bad games. The fact some people are willing to waste their time with content not because they are having fun, but because they have an illusion that it will give them some kind of important reward even while they consider doing it “work”, is the reason why grind is so widespread now. Sorry to say, but nothing you grind for is going to give you prestige or the admiration of others. Nothing you grind for is going to actually have a positive impact in your life. The best you can get is not realizing how much time you have wasted doing something you didn’t even enjoy while you could have been having fun instead.
Uh…
I don’t know how you ‘play’ the game, but i like having certain objectives set for me to ‘work’ towards (thank you english language). That’s what i call ‘playing’ the game.
As it was, i was rewarded for exploration, participating in events, fooling around with the new mechanics, killing enemies, and yes, playing.
Now… a large chunk of that reward has been sliced away. Woohoo, i get 10 hero points for doing this complex jumping puzzle involving careful gliding, mushrooms, and outplaying more complex enemies! …oh, i no longer have a use for those hero points. well then…
It just seems like getting upset about the changes because a person has gotten their spec is very, very petty.
When all a person has is superiority in a video game they react poorly when that’s taken away from them.
I understand you do not agree with myself or others in my position but it is not about superiority. It is not “I completed it super fast” or “I got there why can’t you” it is that Anet set out a goal in their game that indeed did take a lot of time and a fair bit of effort. When that time and effort is then made null by simply making it easier or faster than mine and anyone else’s time was spent on something that others are now getting for less. I don’t want to feel superior I am actually just upset, the same way that yourself or anyone else that is embracing this change was upset that it took that long in the first place.
Please be constructive and actually contribute to the topic not just getting on your high horse to call people out.
some people saw the 400 hero point requirement and just came straight here to complain, i think, while others of us actually went out to get them.
Now that the people complaining have gotten their way, they’re criticizing us for doing exactly what they’ve been doing up til now – objecting to a state of affairs we find not to our liking.
kinda makes them poor sports.
Just pls, get over it. Eventually people would have been at the same point as you were maybe a week ago. You were never anything special and you’ll be nothing special, at least in that regard.
(And yes, I could’ve finished daredevil in like a day, but do I feel good about it? No. Why? It’s nothing special.)
People have done the content, left or just stopped playing regulary because it was indeed a little too much and even anet themself, as they mentioned in the blog, didn’t like it either.
This may all sound a bit harsh, don’t misunderstand me, but the crying about the ones who cried, is getting actually more annoying than the ‘old’ ones, it was anets decision, now please, leave this subject alone.
I just think it’s funny you say it was Anet’s decision and to leave it alone. It was their decision to make it 400 in the first place, but people cried too much. People have every right to be upset, they wasted time for nothing and all they got is 150 Hp’s with no use for them.
Exactly this.
If you had actual;ly invested time to get hero points prior to HoT you would be able to get your elite quite easily.
I’m okay with the hero point change but i was pretty close to unlocking glint anyway. So now i have a hundred-and-a-few hero points left over.
Are we gonna be given a use for them?
it should’ve just been changed to “if used on a target outside 1500 range, incurs a 5sec CD”
Nothing that realllyyy affects me (given i hadn’t even unlocked soothing bastion)
Makes me wonder why these were needed
The reason i want this is that at present, if the target dies the ability ends prematurely, not to mention in a chaotic melee it can be hard to find a target which will live long enough for the cast to go off. having it simply activate on any enemy in the area would be a great help.
I’m a little disappointed but at least i’ve already done most of the work we previously had to do.
I guess having multiple characters with world completion puts me at an advantage over most other people though in terms of hero points available…
With the extent to which i’ve now trained masteries even my second-class alts should have no trouble maxing out their elites (Which is what i’m disappointed about. I liked that you actually had to work for it, and that it wasn’t simply handed to you)
I’ll still be trying to max my rev’s elite before this goes live though ~
huh… me, a friend of mine and some random guy got this first try (though it wasn’t the randoms first, i’d guess, given we had to rez him when we got there)
we did keep him fairly consistently stunned though, but i really didn’t feel it was even all that challenging (for a presumably unsoloable champ)
FoN seems to lock Impossible odds out from being used for some reason….
because facet of nature uses 2 energy gen, and impossible odds requires a full 10. you can’t go below -5 energy gen.
Just wait until you unlock Glint
ugh… her grunt noise is so bad, even compared to the others.
It should really be a roar, shouldn’kitten
Rather than automatically returning the error “You must have an enemy targeted to use that skill”, can Unrelenting Assault please be changed to override your autotarget settings?
since it can’t be used without a target, and isn’t locked to a single target, this would be a nice QoL change.
Of course, it would still return the error if there were no valid targets in range.
The SCAR scrap cannon frequently fails to charge (gets stuck at 4) blocking progression in this chain.
May be related to it dying – the engineer never seems to finish repairing it
I don’t think anything has changed since yesterday
OPs skill level?
Remember how hard teragriffs were at the introduction of silverwastes? hell, remember how hard all mordrem were when they were first introduced? i always steered clear of that event in drytop where you have to clear the vine bridge site. Now i can quite easily solo it…
As you get used to the enemies, their strengths and weaknesses, you’ll find them a lot easier to go up against.
The way to punish afkers is to make participation rewarding in and of itself – loot drops, extra exp, significantly better rewards for higher participation credit.
I hope this system gets thrown right out.
Guys, you have been notified that shortly after launch and maybe for quite some time, some markets will be out of whack and will take some time to find a new equilibrium.
And thats where they are atm, all over the place, so there is no point in comparing material prices for collections and precursor prices for now.
True, but with ascended mats getting new uses and being required for legendary collections, the demand for them is likely to rise, while the supply is still capped out by the daily gating. So while we cannot know what the market will do, it seems reasonable to speculate that the price of these materials will be, if not higher than it is now, then at least higher than it was prior to HoT.
I’m getting good gold drops from enemies (mostly…)
i haven’t honestly looked to see if the events reward money – even at 80, it was always only a few coppers usually.
I’m noticing this especially in tangled depths.
Please tell me this isn’t a design choice. Why create these new boosters if they have no effect in the new content?
