I think mobility on a GS warrior isn’t an issue but the rest it’s not that great, especially as leaps are affected by cripple/chill.
I can’t see them giving us a passive condition removal because of the class philosophy, as much as I’d like it.
So in the recent patch all passive speed boost signets were changed from 10% to 25%. We also know that a very large number of warrior builds use runes to keep the swiftness from signet of rage up as much as possible (to a lesser extent the other boons it applies).
As a frontline – primarily melee – class, one of our big issues that we seem to have to dedicate a lot to is keeping up with our opponents. I was wondering what peoples thoughts on possibly having ‘Warriors Sprint’ joining the signets at 25% would do to/for us?
Allowing many builds to free up the dependancy on runes for swiftness duration, and prevent the (near)swiftness effect from being cleansed off us I think would be a decent adjustment and not one thats too overpowered. Thoughts?
I use a hammer myself as a WvW player, but thats mostly for the CC that the guild feels is useful. On the whole I think it’s an inferior weapon…
Long animations make it very easy to dodge the bigger hits (especially as a norn), the longer swings make it harder to take advantage of the stuns it brings, it actually does inferior damage to a greatsword (or most other weapons tbh) and Whirlwind on the greatsword is simply one of the best abilities we have -bringing high dps, mobility and evade.
Evade is the key there, in WvW it’s HUGE.
EDIT: Oh yeah, due to the hammers key being CC… stability nulifies it completely :P

Thread title just makes me think: “WAR huh, what are they good for… absolutely nothin!”
Hmm, I disagree with “Condition removal is fine for WvW” and instead offer that Condition removal just isn’t worth it for WvW because they are applied so fast and frequently.. using signet of stamina you are normally stacked up again within .5seconds :P
25 vuln on naked level 2 target, 25 might, 25 bloodlust, full berserker with ruby orbs or 3 ruby/3 air runes, 10/30/0/0/30 and hmm… someone else dropping a banner of discipline?
That sounds like most I can think of :P I’ve hit 20k on a naked low level with a level 78 rare rifle and 5 stacks of might so ye ^^
There’s been some discussion on this in the beta, and I’ve put some thought into it in the past as well… Siege towers I think could be good, ladders I don’t think could ever be balanced.
If you give them high cost, they aren’t worth it. If you give them low cost…. it’s basically 2 people with a ladder take a tower before anyone even knows its under attack. You would need to have someone watching every single tower just incase one guy and a ladder came by.
Towers I think can work, but would work best if there were larger structures implemented with say taller walls to make them feel more appropriate.
Fast hands/Hammer Shock… !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Win! Last Stand fix is also very welcome although not sure if I’ll slot it still (Endure Pain or Balanced Stance.. hmm). Furious Reaction is nice although not really got space for it in my build.
Triple Chop? I just don’t get why the 3rd strike in the chain is LESS dps than the first 2.
Been a good week, we managed to claw back into 10k behind Dzag later in the week even though I think it’s fair to say you outnumber us (not massively, but enough).
Wish it was a bit less zergy and/or guild activity was higher so we could push more, but on the whole its been a refreshing change of pace
Hope to be back again soon!
Regards, [Imp]
Doesn’t bother me (dancing) just think that it’s been quite an enjoyable matchup and rather than a ‘respect your opponents’ its a “lawl we won u suck” :/
Since I was kind enough to explain it to Guardians on their mace skill Faithful strike, here is the formula for this trait.
40+((Level^2) x 0.18) + (Healing x 0.8)
so at 0 healing at level 80: 40 + 1152 = 1192
at 1500 healing at level 80: 40+1152+1200= 2192
Not sure what the point of putting the formula with 0 healing is. You are required to get 300 points in healing power just to get the healing shout skill. Saying its 1192 for 0 healing is somewhat confusing to noobs, because they are thinking*oh, i don’t have any healing power gear so this is what it is", when in actuality its a bit higher since they have 300 healing power default to get that trait.
Incorrect, that trait line provides Vitality, not Healing Power.
It’s been a good matchup so far, we’re a little outnumbered but we’re doing what we can. Still need waaaay more proper guilds (and night especially!) to be able to stay up there.
Sad thing is the sheer amount of Alt-F4/Corpse Dancing that’s gone on
One thing – Shield Stance is 3 seconds not 5.
(got to love vigor on crit)
What?
There’s no sigil/rune that does this that I can find anywhere.
Indeed.. there is however a 5pt minor trait that gives 1s vigor on crit…. for Guardians.
I was also intrigued by the “negate 20seconds of damage”.
I just wish the nameplate showed up at the same time as the character.
It’s random chance in fractals to get one, let alone the one you want. Being able to straight up buy them would make WvW a much faster way of getting them unless the price was high.
If they make the price high then people will complain it’s too long a grind when you could potentially get it “first time” in PvE.
What I’m saying is most people will complain regardless, so ArenaNet cannot win and shouldnt’ try.
I have a feeling that by telling UW what to do you have just caused an all forces redirect to RoS BL >.>
:P
Well, your promise of ample parking was true but you neglected to mention the overwhelming number of zealous parking attendants you have ^^.
It was the 2nd of the week long matchups iirc. Dzag were the very lowest server on the rankings, RoS moved down from tier 8 to tier 9 into Dzag vs FoW vs RoS, and Dzag steamrolled with almost 100% objective control then shot up to tier 8 in 1 go.
Surmia remembers it, baaad.
You guys were so insistent on building new apartment complexes in our lands over the weekend we thought we should probably check out your existing ones before deciding whether to let the construction go ahead.
Honestly, if your accommodation involves cramming that many people into a tight space I’m not sure we can add you to our guidebook.
Other than that.. we wanted pay back for 2 months ago
When Surmia first moved down to the bottom tier we thought “Okay this should be a reasonable matchup!” only to find a large influx of guilds join Dzag and make it a rather painful time.
Been some fun so far! We need more players though
Can’t cope with you both invading our borderlands in the way that you can.. especially at night! It would really, REALLY help if that tower wasnt bugged in our BL tho… it just soaks up zerglings like a sponge so we lose half our forces to that >.>
@ Atlanis
We tried yesterday early in the day to come attack you :P we took Mendons and got some upgrades but theres only so much a 3 man guild group can do vs 30+ attackers
No matter how many rams we kill there’s just too much DPS on that gate!
There was only 4 or so at first, then 8+dredge at speldan killed us, by time we ran back across the map to Mendon’s there was 30 lol.
Still.. we shall prevail!!!! Maybe… possibly… okay probably not. But we shall go down fighting (some of us more than others!)
We (I mean guild, not server) always fought outmanned by heavy odds. But there comes a point where the numbers are too large for you to live through the AoE, ESPECIALLY as melee which our guild is very heavy on. The biggest issue for us was always that downing players was easy, finishing them not so much.
When it comes to sieges however, numbers make a heck of a difference due to supply capacity. Tier 9 sieges if you want to build more than 2 pieces of siege you often have to run for supply, which leaves existing siege vulnerable. Here you can throw a lot more down before more supply is needed and there’s little danger sending 5 guys to get it.
Now, more on topic of the matchup: Lake tower bugged in RoS BL, Underworld hold it but there is no lord.. so we cannot kill it and cannot capture it.
One of the reasons we chose a low tier server initially was for smaller fights where individual actions had more affect. For the bottom tier this is mostly true, you can send 5 in to attack 20 and have a tense fight! But at this tier where there’s 40 around at once you need to send in about 20 to stand any chance…. and if you DO kill them, it mostly just takes element of surprise and aoe spam because things die so quickly they can’t react
Was hoping we’d have to be higher up before we hit this critical mass of insta-gib AoE
Still.. there are some good smaller fights to be had, just gotta be lucky!
Been some good fights today, but I gotta ask.. is there anywhere Underworld don’t have a zerg?
Guilds used to being able to roam around pushing towers but now we just have outmanned constantly lol.
We are no longer in the matchup, but the amount of videos and screenshots of the past few days I have which clearly show you’re wrong… opened up my screenshot folder, picked 2 from the end. Here you go.
Well, I was pleasantly surprised when I woke up this morning and saw it’s still close!
I was part of the force that started out in Underworld borderlands, kitten there was a lot of you o.O Going to be an interesting week! And one that makes me feel slightly soft in the front lines
FoW came at us with 50+ ppl at night and we had barely 7.
Oh my that 50+ joke made my day!!! If only we had such numbers how many great things we could have done!
Oh trust me, I’ve seen many a FoW zerg these past few days…. I was previously always supporting the argument “Fissure are outnumbered”, even in /t or on our server forum, but the past week I cannot argue for this.
Surely with us moving up it would make more sense for you to join RoS ^^ :P
Fissure have had heavy numbers lately, I know you’re mostly on at night so don’t see them but there was so many at Woodhaven yesterday evening ^^
Poor mobility on a Warrior ? What game are we talking about here ? Definitely isn’t GW2.
Mobility is decent in general (due to signet of rage), good with a sword, amazing with the greatsword.
Honestly, I know people will disagree with this but I think the greatsword needs nerfing down before anything else can be buffed/improved on the warrior at all. That weapon… mobility, damage and even decent survival due to the evade on Whirlwind.
And yes, I main a warrior.
I just wish the title names were as cool as the achievement’s they come from…
“Master of Disaster” achievement = Ultimate Besieger
“Yakslapper” achievement = Ultimate Interceptor
:( Yakslapper would be an awesome title.
After legendary I shall be going for Jormags Breath.

From my experience, Guardians are simply the hardest matchup a warrior can face. Certain weapons are easier than others but still. Shelter of course means you cannot interrupt their heal and they have so many traits that heal, couple it with retaliation and burn and you’re in for a frustrating time. Save Yourselves doesn’t help either.
I play Hammer/Sword+Shield, hammer is another weapon I dont find great for fighting guardians. If you can’t get the enemy down during stun locks I find Hammer runs out of steam very quick. Guardaisn are pretty much my nemesis, been trying to find a decent way to fight them myself :/
EDIT: Coming from WvW perspective rather than sPvP, I know theres not a huge difference but it allows for more stat mixture’s so.
(edited by Neandramathal.9536)
I was going to put Mendons on my list, but any siege can be AoE’ed from below
For 5-man setup, its almost like a commando outfit. You launch stealth attack and you don’t engage in any direct confrontation. You have to run when detected. And you have to run FAST.
Depends entirely on the goal of your 5man. We’re in the lower tier which will likely make a difference, but majority of what we do is direct confrontation ^^.
Too many factors, if you own the nearby keep/tower you can take everything easier, if the enemy owns them then some towers can become incredibly hard, etc.
Based purely on the towers themselves – Jerrifers/Wildcreek are the harder imho, and Anzalias/Ogrewatch some of the easiest.
In Borderlands, for attackers hardest is definitely NE, easiest is SW.
I run as a warrior in such a small group, but its punishing due to the abundance of CC that gets thrown at you in the frontlines. Stability doesn’t last forever (or at all with certain enemies around) and you are a pinball out there!
Our group tends not to go above 5 these days but we normally have a few Guardian/Mesmers and an Ele. If we get up to 10 there’s a ranger or necro in there… just what the guild members like to play really the classes aren’t chosen for anything specific, just what people want to play
Volley is still not effected by Crack Shot trait. Tooltip says 8s cooldown, but actually its 10s.
TY. I’ll fix this tomorrow for the build on the 14th.
Jon
Not a rifle user myself, but still nice to have such things fixed
Not wishing to push our luck.. but any chance any of the other simple numerical/time bugs (display or duration not sure which is the bug in some cases) could be done too?
Endure Pain shows 5s but lasts 3s for example. Anything to reduce the list would be great (for all classes) imho!
2 Axes, Longbow, Boots and Helm bought for badges. Gift of Battle, rest all on siege… I use around 40 pieces of siege equipment a day on a good day so that’s a lot.
As far as how many badges.. the only puzzle I ever do is the EB one, but when I decided I wanted my gift of battle I stopped spending badges till I got it, took me 2 days although WvW was very active that week so lots to do.
Personally, I’d love collision detection and was one of my favourite things in Warhammer.. HOWEVER, I also am more than willing to accept that any method of implicating it would cause extra lag, and that due to the lack of other people being able to heal you, once you are in the front line being incapable of getting to safety due to a teammate being in your way would be incredibly frustrating. (And potentially open to griefing)
Jotun/Ogres for me, love the more ‘barbaric’ type races (even if they aren’t technically). But they would be more disadvantaged in pvp than Norn already are
:) It’s all about the decoy’s ;D
I can confirm that, I was defending Dawns as part of “Operation keep them busy” while we had trebs on both sides giving it an obvious contested marker to distract from the chance of you looking for the golem.
If you read my previous post, the keep wasn’t contested and none of the gates/walls were damaged less than 30s before the keep disappeared.
SoJ’s active seems by far inferior to that of Dolyak Signet, though. Stability is such a powerful boon. Yes, Dolyak Signet’s passive is definitely not as good as that of SoJ, but really, I’d choose to activate stability over retaliation and weakness any day. Might as well just leave SoJ on passive.
Whilst this is true, if you want stability Balanced Stance is far superior to Dolyak Signet.
with an aoe heal (3,840) + 6s regen,
On this note, upon seeing this a few weeks ago on the banner (never really used them before as I prefer to be mobile) I thought “Wow! Gotta try that”.
Tooltip listed the 3k+ amount, it healed for approx 600. Tried letting a guardian with clerics use it and it still healed nowhere near as much as stated.
Well, personally I lost interest last night after 2 fully ugpraded keeps just mysteriously vanished.
After the first one (which was never contested, and no siege) vanished 2 of us went and checked every single keep. I checked hills, all gates/walls on 100%, I went into lord room just incase.. all on 100%. I bring up my map, waypoint to the next keep… the keep turns blue less than 30 seconds later. Less than 10 minutes later a Guardian is spotted within Vabbi Garrison despite all walls/gates on 100%, and none of the 3 respective keeps had been out of Surmian hands since the reset.
BTW – to tier up all you had to do was not take things that last day :P Many of RoS have also lost interest it seems as we have had the outmanned buff for a while tonight, it’s not been that fun of a matchup and most people were pinning their hopes on tiering up last week.
@Hill, more manpower? you must be joking most of the time we have about 4-5 players in one map, the max FoW players in WvW is about 20…however we try to fight in a way that keeps everyone alive so that may be where your ideas about our manpower come from. Well good luck to vabbi anyway
I am still on side with the argument that RoS have more players than FoW, but FoW has way more than 20 in WvW at the moment, and 4-5 in 1 map? Now you’re just being stupid.
I run Hammer and Sword, I use the Hammer everytime its up, sword is mostly accidental (when fast hands bugs and I hit weapon swap then burst only to find no weapon swap) but lately I’ve been using it more just for the root and swapping out to hammer rather than let the flurry hits go.
Lies, it’s me they target >.>
The nights I was around this week involved just constantly zone hopping re-capping camps after FoW karma-trains, there was only 1 attempt at a tower with 3 golems and it failed :P
Warrior can be Tanky but hardly a Tank. We lack too much support and must scramble to everything that leads to it(i.e. Mace/shield/hammer/etc). So going greatsword/rifle will not give you the same feeling as being a greatsword guardian tank. Shouts is our most effective way to mitigate damage, but it is only gives you more time to fight. It’s still not something that will keep you feeling boss like a guardian.
I have created a GS Tank build countless times and it just doesn’t flow well enough. If we had better damage mitigation, better self support, then it could work much better. However, even the other, more defensive, weapons struggle to make a Warrior a Tank. At best you will just be a solid 2h wielder. At worst you will be the Warrior that probably would be better off as a Glass Cannon. Never a 2h Tank like a guardian.
edit: The above build post is as close as you get. My build was similar but tweaked slightly differently.
I think this is a pretty decent summary. Although personally my takeaway from this thread is guardian AA’s hitting 2.9-3.5k o.O watching back footage my hammer AA’s avg 1.9-2k on low rank players on 1st 2 hits, and 3-3.5k on 3rd hit, and my defense is nowhere near that of a Guardian
…Now if only I enjoyed my Guardian has as much >.<
Stuck with the same matchup again :/ Sooo close to going up a tier >.<
There’s been some good fights the past 3 days ago, and some utterly boring ones :P But mostly I’d like a new matchup simply because everyone knows everyone else. There’s no surprises etc, players know exactly what to expect from other players in battles and strategy.
