…how exactly do you get “no horses” from what you just posted? i’m either missing something or i am not as smart as i thought i was. i’m getting the exact opposite
Why did the Centaurs attack the humans so much and basically almost crushed them under hoove? It might be due to using the horses as beasts of burden, which would be considered an insult to the Centaurs….
You are wasting your time with…Logic… and… intelligence. this responce to your argument is being greeted with wilfull obtuseness..( is that a word? not sure..Ok, I Just made it up.) " but..I do not understand you, and I disagree explain it again…. "( rince and repeat)… til you are blue in the face.
They want mounts. They don’t care about anything else. They do Not care that no one else wants them. They do not care that people are actually totally against them, …including the developers.
Anything you can find that would back up your Position that the Lore is also anti-mount will be completely ignored.
They want mounts.
(edited by Nerelith.7360)
There are GW2 players who claim they don’t like mounts. And they’re all like, “I don’t want mounts.” And when you think about it, they’re right. It’s like, “What are mounts? A definite solution to a problem?”
Oh, I’m walking. Click I’m on a mount. That does suck. It reminds me of that time I was hungry and I ate that food.
Oh I’m walking… click..hmm Nothing.. hey developers how about totally changing your game’s waypoint system, so that there are mounts because I don’t want to click on a waypoint…which is a better solution than.." click mount" but .." click waypoint"…doesn’t let me show off all the Money I have… "click waypoint " doesn’t let me show off My visual Bling!!!!"….
hmmm… “click ..mount”..compared to " click WP" is Like.." Click “frozen caca sandwich on a stick” compared to “Click Sirloin!!!”
It is Not about " gee..there is a problem..Mount is the solution." it is " gee we have a problem, and we already have a solution, that solution is called " The Waypoint System." "
(edited by Nerelith.7360)
There is no hate, I just can’t justify wasting precious A.Net resources on mounts. There is so much to fix in the game.
As for as lore breaking – it is. I disagree with you. Hence why way points were made.
I fell just saying. ‘I want mounts!’ sounds like a 2 yr. old stomping his feet when he can’t have his way.
As I said before, since they don’t have the physics (yes game physics) built in for mounts, that has to be added, as does the modeling of the various mounts to the various races on mounts (with all the different armor, also). That is a ton of work. And don’t point to GW1, with the necrid horsemen, as they were modeled as one piece. Same can be said for the Stone Summit.
It is not a one click add for mounts. I would rather them spend time on new areas to explore, since mounts will be about the same amount of work but fewer people will use them and enjoy them.
The broom is a perfect example.
Alright. Could you then please point me to the source where it’s stated that riding a doliak or a golem is lore-breaking? Is riding horses and bicycles in real life reality-breaking now, since we have cars and planes? I’m really not understanding where the lore-breaking argument came from.
People don’t simply want them for the sake of wanting of them. I’ve stated multiple times (and so have others) that we feel that mounts would add an interesting dimension to gameplay. I’ve linked examples of activities/systems that other games have used and that I’ve personally enjoyed. They added variety.
I can perfectly understand why some people are against them and I respect their opinion. You feel that there are more important things A-net should work on and have no interest in mounts, that’s a perfectly valid point of view. But so is ours ^^;.
The amouunt of interest that your Mounts would add… as an additioonal dimension to gameplay are not enough to overcome My serious dislike of mounts.
I don’t want them, neither do many of the others, and neither do the developers…
close this thread already geeeeeze……
As I said earlier in this thread, we have the way point and Portal system. It was established in in GW1 and continued in GW2. There were ‘situational’ mounts in GW1, such as the wurm in the Desolation but you could not cross that area without them, so it was mandatory and you could not use them in any other area.
Mounts are unnecessary in this game and more than likely a distraction. We will be moving to ‘megaservers’ and that means they need to make sure that the game code is even more optimized. All this is MORE important than some trinket that people use to say ‘LOOK AT ME!’.
Your priorities are not universal. Distractions are my priority.
Personally I’d love a mount system similar to FFXI’s, with a proper breeding/maintenance mini-game. I couldn’t care less for a speed boost but mounts would really add to my immersion (as a roleplayer, I’d be ecstatic) and would offer interesting opportunities.

http://www.lotro.com/forums/showthread.php?484123-Show-us-your-favorite-war-steed-outfitAnother " because I want them" post. No, you need something stronger to justify all the changes that would have to be coded to the game, changes that are Upsetting a LARGE part of the player base…that goes against the stated Intention of the developers…
you need better arguments than " this is what I want, and I want it, and I don’t care that you don’t want it, and I want it coded in the game, and I do not care that the devs have said they don’t…I want it"
since this is Nothing More than " because I want it. " it’s not a good enough reason.
Lore breaking should be a universal no no. Mounts in this game would be lore breaking.
This is not an FF game, this is a Guild Wars game. They do not have the same lore or even races (thank the Six Gods there are no elves in GW). Just because you want them does not mean they should be in the game. Do you ALWAYS get everything you want in life?
It has already been argued several times that mounts are not lore-breaking. Those links I provided were simply examples of ways mounts could add depth and visual variety to the game. People have expressed some valid concerns against them (their redundancy and the visual clutter, for example) but being lore-breaking is not one of them.
In My opinion, the only opinion that matters to me, it is Not about Lore breaking. it is simply.." I do Not want it."
Since that is the status quo, that is the only reason I need. Since you want it, you need something stronger than " I want it, because it would Look cool." which is what this seems to be.
Sorry, this doesn’t convince me that mounts are worth the recoding needed for the game. I do not want them.
The devs have no intention to provide it, and I applaud them for stating, and standing by their decision to not provide them.
YOU need a stronger reason. " I want it, and it would look cool." is Not good enough to warrant all the changes to the game to allow the mounts.
Call me prejudiced if you wish, I don’t care. but…. i do care about something:
I don’t care for mounts, never did. and this game is perfectly fine without them.

Also when introducing them for new maps they can decrease waypoints so they would make the world feel bigger.
That’s an argument against introducing mounts. I like waypoints.
Also, i have noticed that you silently assumed that mounts would grant some sort of movement/speed bonus. This is bad, because it means they would become obligatory – also for the people that do not want them.
Which is why i don’t want mounts in the game – i would have no problem with them being only cosmetic, but talk long enough and all the people that want them eventually admit that they are after something more.It doesn’t become obligatory, you don’t need to use them if you don’t want to, nobody would stop you.
Yeah, right. Nobody would stop me from not using any armor at all as well – and yet armor is obligatory, because it offers significant advantage.
The majority of people do not want mounts that do nothing, of course people want them to do something more.
And if they did something more, people that do not like them would have to use them or willingly cripple themselves. No, thank you.
What this whole argument boils down to is can Arenanet make mounts fun while also being balanced? I think that they can.
Uhm, so far they did not manage to make classes fun while being balanced, so i would be highly suspicious of them being able to do that with mounts. Especially since i haven’t seen any MMO which did it right yet.
I believe they have long considered mounts for the game and they’ve got some pretty solid idea’s for using them.
From what we know they did consider them (back in the GW1 times, even), and then promptly discarded the idea. It is currently pretty much incompatible with the system, and would require some serious rebuilding to the engine (especially if you wanted to have mounts be combat-usable).
And here we have the ultimate aim of Incremental-ism. First state it is “comsetics” only. Then say that " maybe a temporary speed boost that uses adrenaline." then it’s " a permanent speed boost. while ridden."
I think I read someone wanted a “188 % speed boost but only as it is ridden , and cannot be used in combat.”
I Just wonder How soon they will start other arguments… say " the downside is the cost needs to be high and prohibitive."
See this is the other reason they want mounts… Visible Bling. Some people need to have something they can shove in other players faces that show how much money they can afford to spend.
And then they say " we are spending ALL this money… we are entitled to bigger speed Boosts… make them … flying Mounts…and…we should be able to fight while riding them….. and .. harvest while riding them…etc…etc….etc…."
You drop a frog in boiling water he jumps out. You put him in a pot of tepid water… then incrementally… raise the heat…. By the time he thinks to jump out… pardon the mixed metaphor… his goose is cooked.
No thanks. The ONLY thing that makes sense is to nip this in the bud. Which is why so many players are against " cosmetics only" mounts…..
We realize that it is Just like letting the door-to-door salesman wedge his foot in the door… best thing to do is plant your stiletto firmly on his instep.
(edited by Nerelith.7360)
Mounts CAN’T BE PUT IN GW2, because(wait for it), WPs/portals are the means of travel and ANET would lose one of their gold sinks becoming all but useless except for beginners, those that wouldn’t be able to afford them and those who don’t want them.
I’m not so sure about it. When you are riding between 2 spots, you don’t earn anything unless you start a fight.
But for the goldsink there many solutions: Maybe maintenance fee or fuel for mechanical mounts and for the living mounts you have to pay a monthly fee for the food and stable. And of course you will have to pay a lot of gold to get one.
Personally I would like to have both: a mount for each race and the easy waypoints. The mount doesn’t need a permanent speed boost, from time to time a sprint would be more than enough, maybe stick on the endurance, like the dodge.
But I don’t expect to see mounts in the near future, and I rather like to see new playable zones, and not a living story again. Mounts are not necessary at the moment.
Mounts are not necessary at all. Nor are they desired except by a very vocal minority that just does Not seem to understand.
There are other games with mounts. They are approriate in the other games. They are not here. There are better things the devs can be working on… Like making rangers, engineers and necromancers more desired in dungeons for example…
Sorry, but My understanding of MMO’s is that Class balance is always among the most important things a dev team should be focused on.
Mounts are a trinket. Mounts are unnecessary with WP’s and Gates. Mounts since they are unnecessary amount to nothing more than a way for someone to stroke their… ego… some Might say overcompensation for shortcomings elsewhere.
Like the middle aged guy that buys a Ferrari. " look at me!!! Look at me!!!"
There are many more important things to do.. Mounts is like # 100 in a list of things to be concerned with.

Where is your evidence that the developers have long considered mounts? The game was designed with zero mounts. They would have to totally re-invent the WP system to Include mounts that grant a speed boost which seems to be what you want.
I Just do not understand how there can be players that do Not see that the Moment any Mount is added to the game, that grants even a 25 % speed boost while Mounted… suddenly it becomes mandatory for everyone in the game to have that mount… even if they never wanted Mounts In the game to begin with.
This is so clear that it doesn’t need explanation since it is clearly a case of being wilfully obtuse…. repeating over and over and over " I don’t understand that, and I disagree." til the other side tires.
Here are the facts. The developers have stated there is no intent to include any sort of mount at this time.
A large Portion of the playerbase agrees with the developers.
That means that the ONLY reason we need to NOT want Mounts is.." because we do not want them." We do not need any other reason. We like the status quo. Therefore the burden of coming up with decent reasons for their Inclusion is yours.
Next:
“We want them” is not enough. You need better reasons.
Next:
Saying " you need better reasons to exclude them. to keep us from having them." is totally untrue. All we need is." we don’t want them." That ’s it.
Last:
Your main argument seems to be " we want them Inspite of Developer stated Intentions, and we want them even if no one else wants them."
No one is saying you cannot want things… after all…
The dead men in hell want snow-cones.
IMO adding large new areas currently will only result in more of the older areas being deserted.
Now with the upcoming MegaServer-System, this might change. I have hopes that they are waiting for this to be running smoothly and fully rolled out and then add new areas.
Having said this, I personally do not share the love for Cantha and I am not very obsessed with an expansion. I found the LS to be quite entertaining and in my opinion it kept the game alive throughout the last year. Now if they get their things sorted after the China launch, they may have brought the systems and experience to a level, where they can forge more interesting LS content, potentially with a more persistent result.
What I want to say: it may not be so obvious even to ANet themselves, where they will never go to.
There are ways to one…. add new maps, and 2… keep the old maps from being deserted. Simply have what can be a combo if story quest and Dynamic event, where you talk to Jo shmo in a new map… and he sends you as part of the quest back to some of the old maps. This way you STILL have players In the older maps.
99% of any player suggestions, not matter how great/beneficial
This is the only answer that matters, really. We can name all the things we’d love, all the things that we’ve suggested. None of it will be added, even when you get a decent following for the idea.
I’d even go as far to say that the things that were added after it was suggested, those things were already in the planning anyway, and it were obvious things to add (hairstyles, faces, etc.).
hey hey hey! I Like the new hairstyles! It’s always all about the hair.
I guess they will never make Lemons tradeable on the TP.
I Guess I can understand that food that is purchased only with karma would be untradeable…. but seriously… lemons? what i f I wanna just sell my lemons?
GW2 is trying something different. They have no plans for an expansion because they hope to introduce expansion like content through the living story. There’s nothing stopping them from adding a new class, profession or land through the living story, and besides advertising and box sales, there’s no point of an expansion.
There’s no reason to expect one of the old continents to appear anytime soon, because the first one isn’t even complete. There’s still many areas left to explore, and at the current rate, the old continents may actually never happen. Will they ever actually tell you that they never plan on implementing them? No, because they’re something that could happen, they just currently don’t have any plans for them, just like expansions. Additionally, they don’t like detailing future plans because people would only complain about broken promises when it doesn’t come true, even though a promise was never made.
Lastly, if it was up to NCSoft, ArenaNet would have released an expansion, because that is what they expected, as mentioned in their earnings report almost a year ago, which ArenaNet had to clarify. More recently, they have stated that there is no decision on an expansion and it won’t be looked into until after the Chinese release.
Living Story is not even close to being Like an expansion. When players think of a game expansion, they think of the fact that functionality In the game is … expanded.
New races
New classes
New weapons
New skills
New elites
New maps
New quest lines
New Bosses.
Now… they did destroy LA so that does Kind of make the Lion’s Arch into a new map.
They also added Scarlet I guess…
The problem is… these are … Not expansions In functionality. These are basically some people writing a continuation or addition of some sort, and then the devs give them animation. For me…the whole Lion’s Arch " story line" had the feel of… fan fiction.
Do NOT get me wrong. I LOVED gw1. I Played it from about 6 months after it was launched… Bought all of the expansions until the last…didn’t get the final one. But EACH
EACH…. added some functionality. Whether it was new classes… with new skills… the whole hero system in Elona…
As much as i loved Gw1… and love Gw2. for me…Living Story is not an expansion, it seems Like " they need something new… give them this."
The april 15th changes have the feel of an expansion to it, since a Lot of the game mechanics are changing for the better… Free trait changes ..anywhere, at anytime is good enough for me…
But to say " well, there won’t be expansions..there is Living story, and that is Like an expansion." is either to NOT know what an expansion is…. or to redefine the meaning of the word.
I’m a Gw1 vet… still here. Have been since Pre-launch. Anyway that out of the way. I have to admit, I was hoping for similar expansions as in Gw1. I Hoped for Cantha…. I wanted assassins. No..Thieves are not assassins. I hoped for Ritualists. I would have been happy with either.
I also hoped for an Elona expansion. Defenitely wanted to see Dervishes in some form.
What i hoped for out of the way. What we will never get, I hope.
Mounts of any form. Every day we seem to get " hey here’s a new topic, can we get mounts?" " MMO bla bla bla has mounts…. if we don’t get Mounts ….people will leave!!!!!! ESO … bla bla bla…"
DPS Meters. No no no no no no no no no and no!
" Maybe in the next expasion they can lift the cap to 90??? why not? MMO bla bla bla raised it to 90…. they are way ahead of us!!! they have it, we should have it, if we don’t get it… ….people will leave!!!" " ESO Bla Bla bla!!!"
For some reason it seems that there are many players that go from MMO to MMO trying to turn the MMO’s they play into a clone of " that game which shall not be named." And then when it does turn into a clone of " that game which shall not be named…" they complain …" hey this is a clone of .." that game which shall not be named." "
I hope the dev team stays strong. There may be things they still have to do to get the game better polished…but…. making gw2 into either a Clone of " That game which shall not be named…" Introducing any of the previous three…. or trying to make this seem more Like TESO, are not steps we would want them to make here.
" Make mine gw2"
Thanks for your contribution :o
I’m personally doubting whether or not they’ll ever add another region (to the size of Cantha or Elona at least.) I really gave up hope when they announced that they had no plans at all for any expansions. I’m even starting to doubt if they’ll add any races or professions. Really worried that this is all due to business on NcSoft’s part. They’ve scrubbed projects in the past and I’m concerned that theyre adopting a “we can make plenty of money with things as is, why invest in expansion-size changes?” policy towards gw2. In that case, the dev’s could only work within the limits set by the corporation. In the end, Ncsoft makes the rules of the game (literally and figuratively.)
I Like gw2. But I Kind of started souring on NCSoft when they closed down City of Heroes. That decision never made sense to me. it seemed to be a wildly popular game.
I Know i enjoyed the crap out of both CoH and CoV. but i giess i digress.
I think NCSoft rather pour their Money into making a LOT of different titles, hoping to find a Niche for each…than to invest too heavilly into any. The main problem there is…players Kind of have gotten used to playing a couple years….get an expansion…. play a couple more… get an expansion.
Even in Monthly subscription gam,es we are used to paying for an expansion. Anmd as good as the QoL changes coming on the 15th are. They are not the same as adding cantha was when Cnatha was added to gw1.
New Maps… New stories…. New skills…. new skins on Old skills.. and yes those DO matter when they make a whole new area have a distinct flavor. New Music…
Elona I loved for one feature…. Dervish!!!!
I really Hopedfor a dervish type player… or a ritualist. I reently tried to go back to gw1. But found for some reason My account was locked…. again. And it was linked to an email i am no longer able to access…. my loss.
I had hopes for TESO, that seems to be a scrub. There is EQ Next coming but that’s a year away, World of Darkness Online seems to always be delayed , delayed… Oh well…I Guess i can hold out and hope.
atleast they stop doing living story, so i guess thats a better direction even if they are not adding any new content…
howerver beign realistic i expect this new patch apr15" to have no new content to “play”
then spend another half a year making more living story..and then after a year.. another feature patch i expect
“crafteable legendary”
“houses”
new map to pvp …
a new dragon…
fractal boxes
new SAB colors"
“fix the merge kick”
and a few redundant skill changes again.. maybe 1 or two new healing signetsthat is beign realistic.. and how anet has been working lately… as you can see none of those are anything new" or any new content and this is what im looking into a year or more! i dont expect anything more than that list unfortunately
If this is how you truly feel, then maybe you should consider that this game, as it is is Not for you. There are many players that enjoy the game as it is. Instead of trying to get the game to be what you want the game to be, wouldn’t it be a better use of your time and energy, to devote that to seeking a game that has exactly what you want?
I’m a Gw1 vet… still here. Have been since Pre-launch. Anyway that out of the way. I have to admit, I was hoping for similar expansions as in Gw1. I Hoped for Cantha…. I wanted assassins. No..Thieves are not assassins. I hoped for Ritualists. I would have been happy with either.

So with the new 50% off the game at the moment i told someone i know to pick up guild wars 2 he did so and loves it all good so far, How ever when he told me he got the DIGITAL DELUXE EDITION of the game i was like yeah so did i now i got it at launch.
Now here is my issue with his digital edition he gotSuit of Legacy Armor*
Mithril Box*
10 Experience Boosters*
Summon Mistfire Wolf Elite Skill*
Miniature Rytlock*.
Golem Banker*
Chalice of Glory*
Tome of Influence*
Now i got for twice the price and on launch daySummon Mistfire Wolf Elite Skill
Miniature Rytlock
Golem Banker*
Tome of Influence*Now i know that the extras that have been added are to get more people playing and that is great but we the players that have been playing from the start should we not also get the extras as well?
Nope. You are not entitled to anything that was not available when yu bought the digital deluxe edition. Whatever you were promised at the time is what you get. I am just amazed that none of the early adapters isn’t saying " hey, the game is 50% off, I’m entitled to a refund of half the price I paid for it!!!"
BTW, I also bought the Digital deluxe edition before the game was released. I do not feel gypped or cheated, because new players get some extras.
Be grateful, Not entitled.

You CAN’T EQUATE armor to mounts. The Armor shell is already in game, they just need different artwork on it. Mounts mean new physics, modeling etc. What don’t you understand about that.
Players have been crying for new content, more of the world open, etc . and all you can say is MOUNTS? Right……
What. Did someone reform the laws of physics when horses suddenly enter Earth?
Game engine physics, not real world ones. The horses would not enter Earth but a virtual world.
Armor means new modeling too. What don’t you understand about that? Is every armor suppose to look like the Flamekissed/Flamewrath set?
No, new armor means new textures. Mounts mean not only new textures, but new wireframes, and many, many other things (new animations, collision boxes, new object interaction, changes to combat engine – a ton of stuff). It’s not just a matter of painting a horsie.
So your argument is simply the back-and-forth game? ’Kay then.
He doesn’t need to have an argument. He’s not the one arguing for a change after all.
She…doesn’t need. And this is exactly my point. I am Not the one asking for something NOT currently available. I am saying " they are not currently available, I agree with the devs stated Intent to not provide them at this time. My reason is aesthetic. I do not wish to look at mounts."
I played " That game that shall not be named." There were mounts everywhere… flying mounts… ground only mounts… everywhere I looked… and Players had this tendency to ride them into banks… Into crafting stores, to the mailbox… and covered the NPC’s with their mounts to a point where trying to click the NPC ended up being an imprediment to game play.
I did not Like it then, I don’t Like the idea of mounts In this game now.
Other players want mounts, they are not currently available and the devs have stated they have no intention of providing them. a LOT of Players have said they also do not Like them, want them, or want to even see them.
It is up to the players that desire the Mounts to overcome all this resistance. They need more reasons than " because we want them."
Also, Invalidating everyone else’s opposing arguments with " you need better reasons than " I don’t Like them." " is untrue…. that is the ONLY reason I or anyone else needs. THAT is the reason you need to overcome… and " I want them." is not enough.
And saying " you need better reasons to exclude them…" won’t work.
(edited by Nerelith.7360)
I don’t understand why so many people in the community seem to have zero imagination, vision or creativity.
Oh, i agree. Mounts are so cliche… can’t we ask for something new and creative instead?
None of you have provided a reasonable basis for them to not be on the game.
It’s not like people asking for mounts supply any reasonable reasons for their inclusion.
Except none of the reasons have been any more acceptable than those for them.
“I don’t like mounts” Yeah well, some people do. So that’s not a reason.
“Other games have mounts, play those” Other games have quests! And maps! And load screens! And PVP! And levels! Lets remove all those too! Or rather, why don’t people leave for WoW/Tera/Whatever the hell else for those features too!
“Mounts and anti-immersive, clunky, badly implemented, Lore defying” Really? Really now? Show me the proof for where in GW2 Mount use hasn’t been allowed. Maybe no one thought of it yet lore wise? We’ve already had unorthodox mounts on the form of ships in missions, golems, portals/elevators/lift systems and others. And as for anti-immersive, well, what about minis, many legendaries and skins, many NPC joke quotes, tonics and many other features like Candy-Cane weapons and the like? What makes any of those immersive? Find me the line in Lore that says that Minis are actually a in game lore feature, that are central to the story. I challenge you.
“Clutter and clipping” Yeah well, Norn and Charr can do that solely from existing so the last thing on your mind should be mounts when two races cause that issue already.
“We already have waypoints” right, so let’s remove speed boosting abilities and stuff that grants swiftness.
The only basis I’ve seen is, “There’s too many things ANet needs to do first”, which doesn’t really disqualify them, rather, it just sets back their prioritisation. In terms of reasoning for removing them, there is nothing stopping ANet from implementing them aside from, “We don’t want to” or “It’d require more resources than it’s worth”, the latter of which I can sort of understand I guess.
If you want to play that card. I got one better.
I have yet to read one good or compelling reason to add them. NOT a single one. The game was built around not needing them. Sorry.
My issue is that people say, “No we don’t want mounts, nobody likes them, they suck, they’re bad” for reasons equally silly as asking for them. Asking for them however gets away with it because there’s no harm in simply asking. If you’re going to say no, however, provide a reasonable basis as to why. Imagine what this game would be like if everything was decided on what forumers did and didn’t like? Good grief.
Except since you are the one that wants a change to Gw2. A change that makes some people actually sick to just think about…..
The Burden is on you to give reasons that overcome the objections of others.
I prefer the status quo. I do not need reasons to prefer that things remain as they are other than.." because I Like things as they are."
You are the one that wants a change. You need reasons more compelling than " because..I think mounts are cool.. and I want it."
So your argument is simply the back-and-forth game? ’Kay then.
No, My argument is, that there are many reasons already stated as to why for gw2 mounts are a bad idea. Aesthetics is one, but there are others, and there is No reason to keep repeating them, … they are there to be read.
BUT… those that want mounts seem to have basically Put foreward only one reason.." I want it, gw2 can do it… and we don’t care who doesn’t want it."
All I am arguing is, you need more than just " I want it."… because .. Anet doesn’t want it at this time, and Most players seem to be adamantly against it.
So form arguments that don’t basically amount to " because I want it" and maybe you Might convince someone.
Or can it possibly be that there are no other arguments for the inclusion of Mounts? Other than " I want it"?
The ONLY reason people care about the release and discuss it is because it is ELDER SCROLLS!!!
Or just to simply see a new world .. new zones .. something new to discover.
If it was F2P i also would have maybe a look .. but not for that price
Cant you see the “new world” from the older ES games with no monthly fee?
Maybe if Skywind is very successful, they will make the rest of Tamriel too. For those that don’t know, Skywind is a grand mod for Skyrim that recreates Morrowind on the Skyrim engine, and allows you to go there.
So maybe in a few years (if Bethesda doesn’t make a sensible move) you might be able to see the rest of Tamriel using the Skyrim engine (and a far better looking world than TESO).
So basically you have all the Skyrim maps… and maybe with Skywind, if Bethesda allows it in an MMO..( Good luck with that)… you have the Oblivion maps.
I don’t see this as new. Since you get this from just Playing Skyrim, and Oblivion Now… without the Monthly subscription.
Oh don’t forget it also has a cash shop. The problem with cash shop games is, the temptation is high to reserve their best content…. for the cash shop.
and before anyone makes the " gw2 has a cash shop" stab. Gw2 allows players to trade their gold for gems. Last i heard the ESO cash shop is.. cash only. Then again I might be wrong. Have not been interested enough to check when I heard it had both a cash shop…AND a monthly sub, for a so so game at best loaded with bugs….
As Stan Lee would have said…" Nuff said, make mine gw2!"
I pre-ordered TESO but now I don’t even feel like redeeming the key. I played a couple of hours in early access and that’s it. The game is just boring.
Thanks for your honesty. I Love Elder Scrolls. I have been playing it since Oblivion, still think it’s better than Skyrim.
When I heard about TESO, I was excited. I then did some research, and heard a few things that bugged me.
The first was it would have both, a monthly subscription fee, AND a cash shop. Say what you want about gw2, it one has NO monthly, and the Gem store allows you to spend in-game gold for whatever it decides to sell.
I have had experiences with games that have both, a monthly sub, AND a cash shop. It’s a greedy grab for player cash. Anything worth having only appears On the cash shop. Nothing is really available through in-game play.
Then I saw it had " Three factions pitted against one another in GvGvG style gameplay.." and thought…. “I have that now.”
They also mentioned something Like Megaserver would be part of the game and thought…" How cool!!" then a week later gw2 mentioned Megaserver. So then went back to the " Ok, so I have that in gw2 why play TESO?"
THEN I read a bunch of reviews…. " Average." " lackluster." " Free2play game with a ESO skin."
To the Original Poster:
But as per…. players that have complaints about gw2, will use the release of ANY new game…No matter how substandard… and say " Just watch….. don’t kitten me off… I’ll go to < name substandard average, lack-luster MMO here> and I won’t come back!!!!"
All I have to say is… it would be cool if you waited for the new content and tried it out. But if you feel your patience has been stretched to a point where " I’m mad as hell, and I can’t take it anymore!!!" Then i wish you the best with TESO.
Can I have your stuff?
Good luck with TESO! See you back in a month.
If someone leaves TESO, they don’t necessarily come back to a lesser game. They just find a third game to replace the prior.
TESO IS…. a lesser game. If you do not already know that TESO is just an average free2play MMO with an Elder Scrolls Skin, you have not done your research.
If all we discussed were the features of the game, there is nothing here, worth putting money into. The ONLY reason people care about the release and discuss it is because it is ELDER SCROLLS!!!
Trust me… this IS a lesser game.
why are people so fiercely against mounts? I mean, I think I haven’t seen a single reason in this thread except people screaming no louder and louder.
Then you skipped over my post. Scroll up. You’ll find it
.
I’ve yet to see anyone post a gameplay reason for including mounts as well. Of course, most of the posts asking for mounts I barely skim because they’re just people screaming yes louder and louder like a child throwing a tantrum. It’s simply going to go back and forth and people asking for mounts adamantly refuse to realize the devs are (for all intents) never going to budge from their “we arent adding mounts” stance.
They can’t ‘refuse to budge’ on a stance they’v never taken.
If Anet has ever stated they will never add mounts, prove it with a quote, because I can guarantee you they haven’t, they only stated they will never add flying mounts and that they have no plans to add terrestrial mounts.
And any content is adding to gameplay, the question is whether it would improve on gameplay, and since you haven’t any idea how it would play, you have neither right nor ability to say whether it would or would not.
Here is a 2011 interview with Colin Johanson – HE SAYS NO MOUNTS!
Nice spin story, you’d make a fine lobbyist. That question asked whether there would be mounts on release, not whether there would be any ever. Whether there would be mounts ever was asked later, and I already stated ANets answer above. No flying mounts, ever, and no current plans for ground mounts. Spit and cuss and lie all you want and that’ll still be the truth.
“No current plans for ground mounts.” = " we reserve the right to keep our options open about ground Mounts… but,….do not hold your breath… if you are gonna bet an organ on whether there will be ground mounts this decade… bet on… Not likely."
Any other Interpretation is simply… wishful thinking.
GET ON YOUR TINFOIL HATS FOLKS! I’m gonna stab at this mounts bubble.
Stop making these stupid threads.
By the way, there is nothing cool about mounts.
Oh, for Grenth’s sake…
You have the broom. There’s your mount.
These three posts have the most thumbs in the shortest amount of time. And the first two are the first and second replies. Compared to the other posts this shows that more people are against the idea as well as the thread itself than for it.
The first 2 mounts (technically animation skins) were a broom and a drill. Like the first Molten Pickaxe, this was a test to see how popular a mount-like object would be and how well it would sell in GW2. Granted they intentionally made them small because they couldn’t predict the amount of buyer for them as well as the amount of strain these players would put on the game if most of them had them out at once. However, unlike the Molten Pickaxe the broom didn’t sell as well. There were not alot of people seen using the broom and and even less people using the drill while the molten pickaxe became a common occurrence. The numbers of players seen using them has dropped ever since.
This at least shows that the players who want mounts are really just a small minority using resources to design mounts would not be profitable.
Another thing I have noticed are the methods of counterargument amongst those for mounts. The biggest tactic being:
“moving the goal post” where one side dismisses evidence given by demanding greater evidence thereby invalidating someone’s point(s). This is just one of the examples:
There is literally no legitimate reason why we can’t have mounts.
I’m indifferent, but all these ‘reasons’ sum upto, ‘Every other game has mounts, and Guildwars2 doesn’t need them because everyone else has one’.
Not only is this counterproductive to coming to a conclusion but it also shows that this is a one-way argument. “Either you give us mounts or we get mounts” basically.
If anything is to be resolved BOTH SIDES have to compromise. However, it won’t be anywhere near a 50/50 split.
We don’t have to compromise. The Devs want what we want…. No mounts. Why compromise when the devs want what we want?
In this game, mounts would be nothing but trouble. If you are someone who wants mounts, answer these important questions:
1) How would mounts affect WvW? Have you given any thought to how it might change the landscape of how things work in that portion of the game?
Doesn’t matter, They want it. This is irrelevant to them.
2) If people are riding mounts through an area, how will that effect the scaling of dynamic events when the event registers more people are in the area?
Doesn’t matter, They want it. This is irrelevant to them.
3) How would you handle players on mounts being hit by enemies? Are they thrown from their mount? Dismounted? Can they fight from the mount?
Doesn’t matter, They want it. This is irrelevant to them.
4) How would you be affected if you were in the middle of a jumping puzzle and someone attempted to do it with a mount and was blocking your view?
Doesn’t matter, They want it. This is irrelevant to them.
5) What happens when you go underwater? Are there going to be underwater mounts too?
Doesn’t matter, They want it. This is irrelevant to them.
6) How do you deal with the added animations needed in heavy areas (like world bosses) when people have mounts? The resources for the mounts aren’t free.
Doesn’t matter, They want it. This is irrelevant to them.
7) How do you deal with the issue of people’s mounts blocking important NPCs (I’ve seen this issue in many other MMOs, and it’s a real pain).
Doesn’t matter, They want it. This is irrelevant to them.
8) Besides looking cool, what is the distinct advantage of having a mount over not having a mount? If you get no speed boost, why is it important?
Doesn’t matter, They want it. This is irrelevant to them. AND THEY LOOK COOL!!!!
9) The development time used to create decent mounts would likely take away from other features or additional content in GW2. How do you justify that mounts are more important than other things?
Doesn’t matter, They want it. This is irrelevant to them. PLUS THEY WANT THEM… AND THEY LOOK COOL… AND THEY WOULD LOOK COOL RIDING THEM, AND THEY WANT THEM
Answer these questions and let me know.
Basically the main reason boils down to " Because I want them. I think I would look cool riding a mount. it’s BLING… and BLING is COOL!!!!!"
And I get to decide what is ugly for me. Not you. Therefore, There is no reason for GW2 to not have mounts.
Your argument needs to be better than, “I disagree because it is ugly.”
Actually No, It doesn’t. See I am in the Majority, and More Importantly, I am also in agreement with the devs stated intentions.
Someone said " It hurts no one." I am showing how it hurts me.
Just because you are willing to put up with an ugly dolyack rear end in your face, doesn’t mean I have to.
You have valid objections to overcome before you can get people to agree with you. That you lable them " invalid" doesn’t make them invalid.
Just because you have differing taste about uglyness doesn’t make a dolyacks rear end beautiful.
As I said before , you want what the majority does not. You want what the devs have stated that have NO intent to implement " at this time".
YOU need better arguments than " maybe a dolyacks rear end can be beautiful… you don’t Know til you look, besides maybe I find them beautiful." and you need better arguments than " because…. I want it."
38631kittenelith.7360:Because I want to use them to ride around, for roleplaying purposes, for looks and in WvW, I would love to charge into the zerg with my horse. And the most compelling reason is that it hurts no one.
A totally selfish reason… " I want it" followed by a fallacy. “It hurts no one” you say. it hurts me to 1. Look at it. 2. deal with the fact that I’ll be staring at some charr riding a dolyack, and have the dolyack’s rear end to stare at as i try to click On the Banker…( I left WoW because of How often a Mount…flying or otherwise… Blocked a banker, a mailbox, an NPC…a quest giver… etc etc etc etc… I say no to Dolyack rear ends.)
It also hurts me because all that graphical clutter will slow My frame rate. And saying either " No it won’t." or " get a better computer." are entitled arguments….
the first you cannot guarentee, and the second, I don’t feel I need to get a better computer , because you wanna see your character ride a mount.
Sorry, but… your desire to ride a mount would affect my gaming experience to the negative. Oliver Wendell Holmes i believe once said I may be wrong… " My right to extend my first, ends when it comes In contact with your nose."
Your right to ride a mount ends…when it Inconveniences My ability to enjoy the game.
Sadly… you may feel the opposite is true…but it is Not. YOU are the one that is In the Minority…and… YOU are the one that wants what the devs have already decided they do not wish to Implement…" at this time."
YOU therefore need better reasons than.." because I want it."
If looks can hurt, then GW2 need a visual overhaul.
http://dulfy.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/the-dreamer1.jpg
I don’t think Mounts will be as ridiculous as this. Therefore, looks isn’t a good argument to be against mounts.
If there is a visual overhaul, then we can continue discussing about what fits in.
Sorry but, I get to decide what is ugly for me. Not you. It may look like roses and rainbows to you..all those mounts all over the place Blocking NPC’s and shaking their rear ends in your face….
But Not mine.
And since what is attractive differs for different people, I am allowed to state that all those mounts Looking ugly to my taste is valid…for me… and it seems for more than a few others….
Your argument needs to be better than " because I disagree that it will be ugly." And it has to be better than.." because I want it."
Game over. Insert Coin.
P.S. I looked at the picture you linked. it showed a Lovely unicorn flying. I fail to see How that can possibly compare to ugly Dolyack rear ends Blocking bankers, heart merchants, and NPC’s.

There have been mounts yes or no topics and rants for GW since before launch…
I don’t see a use for them, I don’t care about them…
We have WP’s, we have dodge, we have swiftness and we can run pas 90% of all the mobs in the entire worlds if we want to.Fighting with a mount? That is like using an Omega Golem in WvW, That is as far as I want to go. Any other use, more dynamics…please don’t.
Restrict any potential mounts for specific missions/dungeons/usage and limit the use.
Talyn put THE reason for NOT adding them to the game: There are no reasons to add them as we have no need for them and the game was built around not needing them.
Could not have said it better myself.
So we getting mech mounts soon?
Moa mounts?
Dolyak mounts?
Really, its very, very unbelievable that there is no mounted combat in GW2. On our own planet Earth, mounts were a crucial military tool till the 1700’s. So used in armies for 1700 years and any army without at least some cavalry virtually always lost for the majority of that time. Its a bit ‘silly’ that the inhabitants of Tyria are too thick to release the power of mounted combat, especially in large scale wars.
It’s a bit silly to compare the History of Earth, In real life… to the Lore of a Game.
Just sayin’.
For RP reasons, I hate waypoints. So while I accept that mounts will never come, it won’t stop me dreaming of a mount with a 50% speed increase.
World of Warcraft has that. They even have flying mounts. Maybe you were not aware of that.
It would be good as a new feature, many mmos and all of gw2’s current rivals(wildstar, eso, archeage, everquest next, black desert, etc etc…) have this feature. Despite several negative comments here, there’s more gw2 players that want to see it implemented… It can also be a good gold sink and a new, “game-selling” feature.
So your argument boils down to " but…. ma… everyone else is doing it!!!" To which your mother always replied.." so? if everyone else were jumping off a tall building… would you do it as well?"
Just because.." everyone is doing it" is not a valid reason to do it.
Secondly.. someone said " you need to come up with a better reason than.." no.""
Actually the reverse is true.
Most Gw2 players do not want it.
The developers said they have no intention of providing flying mounts ever, and no intention of providing ground mounts.." at this time."
That means before we get mounts the burden is upon those wishing for mounts to provide a valid set of reasons that outweigh the desires of most players, and the devs.
And " because it’s cool" is Not a valid reason. neither is " Other games have them."
Neither is…" but I want it."
Basically i was pretty optimistic about the update, sure it had things that miffed me (town clothes) but all in all i could get over the problems and loved some of the new changes….and then the Megaserver blog post came up, and right now i’m basically trying to figure out what other parts of the game i haven’t tried; to experience before leaving the game. kitten shame, i loved this game but if the developers want to dictate at what time i’m supposed to do events and even on what server i’m supossed to play then it’s better to just call it quits.
The worst part of it is that the backlash over this ridiculously bad idea of a system is quite tame here on the forums giving them the illusion that this is just a vocal minority but the reality is most players don’t frequent the forums and considering some of the disscussions i’ve heard from quite a few big end guilds on my server…well let’s just say the population drop will become quite the problem the next few months.
bla bla bla… population leaves… bla bla bla… ESO was Just launched… Bla Bla Bla…lots of competition…. bla bla bla…
Heard it all before.
People always say " Oh if you change the game in a way I don’;t Like…everyone….will leave."
Then ,…no one does. Not even the person Posting.
Seen it before, nothing to see here :-)
What about when you make a new char to be lvl 80 in full ascended with all legendaries and 5k golds jesus you ppl are never happy there is already not much to do once you’re 80 ..
People often confuse " I think this would be more conveneint for me." with " I think this would be good for the game."
Often the best things for a game, are inconveneint for players. Make a gamr a challenge the game becomes more Interesting , and worth the accomplishments attaineed.
Make it too easy,… and it becomes boring. The problem is, the things that make for Player convenience, also make the game easier. Like….
Account bound skill points.
P.S. What next? Transferrable levels?
Maybe the Player can buy a scroll of levels which requires the sacrifice of a player leve…. and then that is account bound, and they can then transfer that to a Low level character, and the Moment that character clicks it…. they GAIN a level. This way they can sacrifice the 80th level…Just as they are about to Level up again…. and trnasfer that to a level 5 or 6… then they can just keep doing that…they can get their Low level character to 80….WITHOUT EVER PLAYING IT!!!!
I think not. The game would become VERY boring….
This is the same philosophy of account bound skill points…and precisely the reason it will never happen.
(edited by Nerelith.7360)
A five hour window in between boss rotation rounds is super inconvenient.
Doing mega boss fights involves a LOT of standing around and waiting already, but at least right now, after fighting Tequatl or the Wurm, you can head right on to the Karka Queen without having to wait another 40 minutes. :\
So the champion train suffers? and this is a bad thing how?
I’d actually be fine with mounts. You’d be lying if you say you didn’t enjoy them a little if you played WoW or the like.
The problem is they’re pretty redundant with waypoints.
I played Wow and hated mounts….
Ditto. Mounts were not something you Bought because you liked or wanted them. in WoW you had to have them. If you were level 80… and wanted to be involved in any guild related activities, if you lacked a flying mount, people will not wait for you….even though there was a Public flying transport system…you still had to get from the drop off, to your destination..Pull out the flying Mount get there fast… say " Oh I do not Like Mounts so i’ll walk…." * get dropped from guild group*"… hello????"
Mounts are very common In games where you need a way to traverse large distances. Unfortunately, they are usually held as … " Player progression rewards."
You need to be above a certain level to get specific speed boost mounts….
they are also used as “Bling”
a way for One player to feel better about himself, and to show off before others.." I got this mount because I am special."
the thing is…with way points we do Not need them.
and the last thing this game needs is to clutter up the screen, and add to lag , because a small minority of players want some Bling.
There are many games that have what you guys want… go Play one of them, but… Gw2 is fine as it is. If the lack of Moveable… speed boosting bling is stopping you from enjoying gw2… well, I hope there are other things here that you enjoy.
if there isn’t…. as I said. There are plenty of games that have what you want.
Then, there is the Charr. I can’t even imagine what a Charr would like like on a mount.
They could have a tank/heavy mech vehicle, we have already seen pictures of them in GW2.
One of the living story characters already has a ‘mount’, a mech golem and WvW also has mounts ie siege golems.
Just think its a matter of time before we get mounts, no matter what the, ‘forum negative naysayers’ say.
1. Keep dreaming.
2. Don’t hold your breath.
because…
3. the playerbase as a whole does Not want, need, or like mounts.
No mounts – lease stop posting this. There are plenty of games with mounts, go play one of them if you want mounts so badly.
Quoted for Truth
I can see that, however, in my specific play time window I can do almost every WB. (2015-2330ish). Guesting is still an option, why not guest to an Eastern (or Pacific) server to get the events, and maybe a EU server if needed? It shouldn’t matter which one as they will all be linked via Megaserver, and you’ll not go over your guesting limit. Just an idea. There are still options for being able to do those events.
Yes I was refering mostly to the mega events, but the point I believe is the same. There is no reason you’ll not be able to do ALL of the WB on any given play schedule.
Guesting is not an option – ALL the servers/maps will be launching the same boss at the same time. If it’s Shadow Behemoth’s turn, Shadow Behemoth will be the only world boss launching – time zone and NA/EU have no effect on it.
If, for example, you can only play between 8:15 PM and 10:15PM PST – you will never see Claw, Golem or Ulgoth. No matter where you guest to (if guesting is even still possible), you will never be able to fight these bosses.
If I want to go see a Broadway show, but can only go between the hours of 3 am, and 4 am… chances are I will never see a Broadway show. it is a bit much for me to expect a broadway theater to put on a show to my convenience.
If you cannot fight specific world bosses because you are only able to be on 2 Hours a day, sounds Like a personal problem.
Only someone that feels " entitled" would try to argue…" the new system is not convenient to MY schedule."
My apologies if I posted in the wrong section.
Tried posting https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/archive/suggestions but it says I’m ‘not allowed to’ -_-.In any case, I would like to suggest mounts?
I mean, if you’re going to cap speed at 25% (Or was it 35%?) and that it doesn’t stack with any other speed quality attributes, can you at least introduce mounts to increase speed? And for the sake of ‘discussion’, well…..
I know we have waypoints but, imagine trying to catch up to the Lyssa event after killing Claw Of Jormag. The closest waypoint is about 2 WP away as the nearest one is contested. I WP to the one near the ‘statue’ and after I got warped there, it says ‘WP is contested, warping you to nearby WP’. About 1 minute later while running to Lyssa (who is at that moment has it’s HP reduced down to 25%), the game warped me all the way to the camp WP which is even further away from the temple -_-.I mean, yeah you can make the argument;
- Be there early!
- Don’t hog up all the events!
- Warp sooner!But still…..
WP costs money (not that we care, just pointing it out), contested WP makes it harder to warp to nearby events that we wish to attend before it’s over and althought we might have 100% exploration on our main characters, we don’t have all WPs unlocked on our subs.In addition, mounts make your guardian looks cool? XD
I’m not asking for flying mounts or even allowing attack from mounts (Let’s take it one step at a time). All I’m asking for is mount to increase our speed (You can cap it at 50% speed increase) and to make our character looks cool? XD.
Is this the 3rd or 5th or 7th thread you have started about Mounts On gw2? I swear I keep seeing you post the same thing over and over, as if it were the only time.
Answer no. Just…. No.
i just want to know the peoples opinion… feel free to leave if u dont like it
My opinion is …
No,…don’t need them, don’t want them. Just no. if you miss mounts so badly… there are tons of games that have them. Some even have flying mounts. Wow…. all I gotta say.
We would love to have skill points to be account bound! When can we get them?
Worst idea ever!!!!
So your idea is your level 50 or 60 goes and unlocks all the skill points, and your new level 5…. gets 50 skill points day one?
Let’s just serve the whole game On a silver platter. The Six forbid the game have a challenge if you can avoid it, Like giving your level 5 every skillpoint they will ever need day one?
Bad, bad, bad idea.
I have 1000 scrolls of knowledge in my bank. There’s nothing stopping this already. I can already give level 2 alts all the skill points that will ever be needed.
Scrolls of Knowledge are a bad idea. The only way they can be a good idea is if they are character bound on aquire … Otherwise.. they Just deprive each character of it’s own progression. Then again, this is just my opinion.
Anything that allows a character to gain skill points on one character for another character… in my opinion makes the game less fun, and less an immersive experience.
" gee,…I got 1000 scrolls, let me Just give my new level 2…all the skill points she needs" = " this feels less Like a character, and more Like a set of skills, and abilities that I wear like a suit. I can change this suit as I see fit…like changing clothes."
Maybe that is what some consider fun… I don’t.

Wait, so we’re not going to be able to know when temple events are up when this gets to Orr? The blog says temple events aren’t being synchronized…so they’re going to be random on every map and thus impossible to get timers for?
With the fact that a whopping one waypoint in every Orr zone will be unlocked (since you’re locking all possible contested WPs until you load into the map), this is going to be extremely inefficient, having to constantly run around to see if any of the meta events for the temples are up.
Who thought this was a brilliant idea, again?
This IS a Brilliant Idea!
Hate it. And here’s why: I’m part of Attuned, a guild focused on fighting those “Hardcore” mega bosses. While it’s nice we can start the boss whenever we want, it’s terrible that we can no longer commandeer a map for ourselves.
Let me explain. Fights like the Triple Headed Jungle Wurm require coordination by 120~160 people with at least 110 of which in the same teamspeak. To accomplish this, my guild has been guesting to empty servers or forcing an overflow for private use. This ensures that we have only people who we know we can count on in the map and furthermore ensures we can actually accomplish killing the Wurm on a regular basis.
With the changes to the current system, it sounds like there will be no such thing as overflows, and no such thing as “empty maps” to guest to. In this case, it seems impossible to purge our runs of PUGs who are either geared incorrectly or unable/unwilling to follow commander instruction. Thus, this system makes future endeavors at killing the wurm (or any future, more-difficult boss) futile and impossible. Our guild is very dismayed over the fact that there has been no considerations for this situation and are skeptical that when this patch hits we’ll be able to kill wurm at all anymore due to the excessive amount of incompetent PUGs that will always be inside our (now merged) Bloodtide Coast.
" Oh noes, we will be forced to rub elbows with…riff raff!!!"
It seems like this will make doing bosses overly complex. At this time, every reset we do a world event train. This will no longer be possible. Meaning the amount of loot earned is drastically lowered.
I personally do not like the change.
Does this Nerf the ability to do Champion Trains? Yeah!!!! Thank you Anet!!!!!
- Add a world boss UI that will take you to a specific world boss when it’s up, regardless of server.
I enjoy the almost random spawn timers. I’d much rather see a UI in game instead of going to a website to find a boss spawn or open dungeon.
I don’t think this is how ANet ever intended this to work. People seem to love the world boss train, but I don’t think that ANet wanted that to be how the game was played.
They should have considered it before they VOLUNTARILY made the event timer API publicly available. Which, by the way, is not a “near exploit” for the doom’n’gloom poster 10-20 posts ago. An exploit would be being able to use that API to CAUSE a boss to spawn.
Actually using the API to somehow make a Champion Spawn is an exploit. Not a “near exploit.”
I used the word “near…” for a reason. As to Anet Voluntarilly making the event timer API publically available?…so what?
Devs change their minds all the time, The devs can change any aspect of the game they wish anyway they wish. They do not have to keep something " the way we are used to it… we got used to this Now Anet’s hands are tied."
Umm…no…
It is the job of the player to adapt to whatever changes Anet makes, or… stop playing the game.
This is very common, fact is, when i was a teenaged player…starting My forum posting on my favorite MMO’s, I also daily " threatened" to leave the game… then i saw the same behavior in others. They would always threaten to leave… and be around after the patch..complaining…then they see the upcoming changes to the game In new patch notes…and “Threaten” to leave again…. over and over and over.
I feel that we will always have people that threaten to leave over this change, or over that change. When the developers do something, that happens ti make it harder for people to do a Champion Train…. it is a sign to you riders, that this is Not How they intended we play the game.
Just because many have " gotten used to the champion train" or " I find the timing convenient to my busy schedule." does Not mean the devs have to keep it as is, if it is Not how they intended the game to be Played.
Just the fact that someone ca " Log In at 3 AM… and head to bla bla to fight bla bla,…who is due at 3 : 17 am..according to websitre bla bla bla" should have beena clue this was gonna be nerfed.
Games change, devs change their mind…players adapt…or… find a new game.
A few more important points to be made here:
- If your world usually has a comfortable population on a given map, you’re unlikely to see much of a difference here until the map actually starts getting full. We’re not going to toss a bunch of people from another world into a comfortably occupied server and make it uncomfortable.
- But some worlds do fill up all on their own pretty regularly. The improvement from this perspective is that if you try to join a very full map, the system will find another instance which also contains people from your world rather than the old overflows which were much more of a mixed bag.
- If your world has a very low concurrency on a given map, we can put you and everyone else from your server into a map with a more comfortable number of players. The key term here is “comfortable.” There’s breathing room. Megaserver is not overflow in reverse.
- It’s very difficult to understand this situation if you’re not willing to look at the big picture. Similarly, you can’t really explain urban traffic by using a metaphor about seats at a dinner table. Server populations are big and they are not concrete. Players flow in and out all of the time, even when it seems like a map is completely full. The major change in the way the game is handling population is that it’s making better-informed decisions about where to direct you. If only my GPS did that.
- As the blog post mentions, we’ll be monitoring this very closely to make sure that the end result is positive.
Thanks for all your feedback. I look forward to tomorrow’s blog post and answering more of your questions.
Here’s a question that occurred to me. What about the timers for world bosses and temples? What happens when I see a timer say that it’s time to go free a temple in Malchor’s Leap. I decide to go down there and the Megaserver overlord device decides I need to go to another area where it is already done? Is that in the calculations? Will it prevent me from going to an ongoing temple event that my friends have told me about? Has that been thought out in the Megaserver idea?
It is Not the responsibility of the devs to make it easier for you to follow the timed schedules of some third party website.
Fact is, that the third party websites that post timers for events are almost an exploit.
If the Megaserver makes it impossible for you to follow some websites timers….. then…. so be it. If you need to … Not be able to guest to hit a champion that spawnwed On some server…then run to another champion on some other server… all because some third party website said some champion spawned on those servers… That isn’t something that keeps m,e up at night.
Try to play the game as intended, instead of relying on third party websites with their Champion timers.
