You know…you can bring a ranged weapon…
In all honesty, the axe does need love and converting it to a power-based mid-range AoE weapon would do wonders for both the weapon and the class.
@Agenteusa.6380:
rofling so much after reading that necro is a “glass cannon” when it’s probably one of the strongest tanks in the game after guardian and maybe warrior.Ummm…
Necro ranks just after Guardian, Engineer, Elementalist, Warrior, and Mesmer (which it’s possible to get a 97% damage reduction with) in terms of tanking ability. Nowhere near ‘strongest’ in the game.
Pretty sure necros are still better then mesmers and eles at tanking. Not saying they’re not good, lol. But a necro has aoe statuses (opponent offense reduction), impressive health, minions (to cripple, damage, slow down and be a decoy for foes AND increase your toughness with traits) and DEATH SHROUD.
Attack, gain life force, receive an attack, gain life force, heal, gain life force, death shroud (invincible), it ends, skills are recharged and you’re still at 100%.
You need traits and good utils for that, but it’s possible.
No, I can say that unequivocally elementalists and bunker mesmers survive a lot longer than ‘bunker’ necros. Like I said, a mesmer with traits, staff and Illusionary Defender can achieve a 97% damage reduction and can keep that up for quite awhile. They will and do last a lot longer than any necro would under similar pressure. Elementalist should be obvious. No sane team would take a bunker necro over a bunker ele, ever.

Staff and dagger/focus. Pump power and precision. Well of Suffering and Well of Corruption. That’s all you need to level with necro…anything else and you slow yourself down a ton.
If someone requires you to be level 80 with full exotics to run a dungeon, chances are they’re terrible. It’s not necessary in the least to be totally decked out unless you expect to have to be carried.
That being said, I’ve run AC with a group of people between levels 25-30 (except me) and had no issues.
Wanna try something fun?
Sword/Focus for one set, GS for the other. 3 blinds. 2 gap closers. Tons of damage. It’s a ridiculously fun sPvP setup.
I wouldn’t trust a minion to pee on me if I was on fire.
I have 4 level 80 characters, all exotically geared (necro, mesmer, ele, guardian). I’m also rank 30 in PvP, so please don’t dismiss what I say as ‘some noob saying L2P’.
Necro does need some love, this is true. Currently the list of viable builds in very low and the ‘class vision’ ANet posted has left me a bit worried. However, a well played necro is still a force to be reckoned with, even when specced for power over conditions. If you claim that any class can beat a necro 1v1 with equal skill, then you’re ignoring build setup entirely. Yes, almost every class can setup for massive condition removal and negate the currently most popular necro build, but if you think that same setup will dominate a well-played power necro then I don’t think you know too much about the game.
TLDR: Necro needs love, but it’s hardly a worthless runt of a class.
With certain builds and gear setups you’re pretty much unkillable in PvE using the hammer. Reducing the time of the attack chain would just make this ridiculously OP. I can see a case being made for a PvE/PvP split, or a change that strikes a balance for the two though.
More people aren’t responding because the answer is clearly “no”.
I still play my necro a bit, but I also have a level 80 mesmer, ele, and guardian. Of the 4, necro is definitely the least useful right now and my ele and guardian are receiving the most attention.
So wait – running a dungeon for 1001 times, getting tokens each run until you collect enough so you can buy a piece of armor WAS REVOLUTIONARY, UNIQUE and NOT A GRIND?
I’m… Speechless…
This is a good change indeed. WoW did so many things right, and this was one of them. Or it wouldn’t have 14 million subscribers at one point. So many years down the road, it’s still the most played MMORPG. Case closed. If YOU don’t like it, well that’s YOUR problem.
Sure it’s a grind. It’s a grind with logical progression, with tangible goals and guarantees that the work you put in will give you the items you want.
No, this isn’t a good change. If WoW does so many things right, go play WoW. Stop trying to turn every other MMO out there into WoW.
It IS a good change. It adds a suspense factor to the game play and makes things more interesting. “Logical progression”, as you call it, just bored so many people to death that the ANet guys had to change/tweak their initial system. And it’s a good thing they collect data and respond to it accordingly, there might still be hope for this game (if they continue to do so).
Now, I WOULD go play WoW but I don’t want to spend the cash on it’s money subscription. If GW2 manages to surpass, or at least reach the WoW heights you can bet your butt it will soon have 15-16 million ACTIVE players (if WoW managed to have 14 million with the monthly sub).
The people who want to play WoW are already playing WoW. Making this change will, I guarantee, significantly reduce the GW2 population. If we wanted a WoW (read: horrible) loot system, we’d play WoW.
No, not fixed. I just verified.
Regardless of a workaround or not…I’d like to see a fix for this.
