Meh, it’s kind of the thing heroes do. Look at commander Shepard in Mass Effect. That’s what he did too, bring races together to fight a common big bad.
Yes…. i agree.
Even in Dragon Age they always fight the same guys.
But for god sakes they write different storys.
And i actually turned it on again after not playing it for years.
It was super refreshing how much fun a game can be and how well the storys are told.
But this is another topicA dragon didn’t pop up in GW1, no one in lore told the player about a elder dragon. We didn’t fight a dragon.
lol what ????
Have you ever played Eye of the North ??
The dwarf chamber ? The great Destroyer ???Yes it’s not Primordus but it’s still a Dragon
Its not a dragon its a destroyer
Your are telling me this is not a Dragon ??
yup

We still have to backspace to go to the list of stuff, when will they learn. kitten sakes
“it doesn’t easily fit into the narrative structure of Living World”
They are truly clueless
One a separate note, how dismissive are you? Saying that people would have to learn a 2nd set of numbers if you split skills. How stupid do you think people honestly are?
Your basically saying people are so stupid, so lazy that they can’t read a skills description, and can’t comprehend that they work differently in different game modes.I’m not saying this is intentional on your part, but it’s sounds so ugly and dismissive of your player base. Personally it just sounds like a cop out, and excuse to put as little effort and resources into balancing your game as possible. And forget about new anything to professions, what a joke.
I don’t think that was Mr. Jonathan’s intention at all Yoh. I believe he was merely saying that skill changes between game type(WvW, PvE, and PvP) can be hard to understand and cause confusion to some players.
As a mock example, Lets say you play PvE with your awesome build that gives you 5 seconds of fury when you use a skill and your build relies on it being 5 seconds. However, we split that specific skill only in PvP and you go play and realize only after playing a few engagements that it only gives 3 seconds of fury. Then you go to WvW and realize that the skill is back to 5 seconds of Fury.
- How does that player feel?
- What questions is that player going to ask?
* Is this a bug?
* Why is it only different in PvP?- Who is going to answer those questions?
- Are they going to try and seek out someone to answer these questions?
- Is the person they (if they do ask) going to know the actual reason for this change?
- Is that player going to stop playing PvP or GW2 all together?
The simplest change can have a huge effect on a player in any game, and when you start splitting skills and causing inconsistencies on top of balancing multiple game modes it can get a bit crazy for players to keep up. I hope this helps everyone understand what questions and thought process we go through as a team when deciding on splitting skills.
Put the (Pvp) suffix like gw1, omg so hard to do
Did you notice the lights went out and there was a switching noise. Like somebody flipped off a circuit breaker. Figure it was done for dramatic effect of the video, but for a bio-illuminated setting was kinda…off.
Plot twist: Mordremoth is the electric company and the Pale Tree didn’t pay her bill.
I didn’t see Trahearne in the trailer (unless he used a Total Makeover kit and somehow became a Mesmer) nor any of the other leaders, so maybe it isn’t the summit that is attacked. They could be envoys, which would be a cop out.
I mean, we all figured it would be — it’s the prime opportunity to decapitate Tyria’s leadership — but the plot line couldn’t be that obvious. Could it?
Could the Pale Tree have initiated the summit to draw out Mordremoth? This could be a ploy to invite the dragon to attack, knowing full well the Grove will be home to the Tyrian leaders’ elite personal guards and couldn’t be more heavily defended.
Hell, since people have it in for the Pale Tree’s motives, her using the rest of Tyria as a shield against Mordremoth isn’t out of her supposed character.
Poor Taimi looks terrified. The Inquest definitely came a-knockin’ now that she’s tampering with the waypoints.
or OR she gathered them together for Mordremoth to kill
The Inquest had a minion of the DSD.

Cleansing Ire is fine with most of the burst skills. It’s honestly just its synergy with Combustive Shot, and the fact that you don’t need to hit anything to proc it, that makes it too strong. Literally every other Burst Skill actually requires that you hit the enemy to trigger Cleansing Ire.
If you just changed it so that you needed to strike people with the initial impact of Combustive Shot in order to proc Cleansing Ire, it would solve so many of the current balance problems that we have in sPvP with Warrior.
There is no impact to combustive shot
I want to address the comments about the player character’s knowledge of Mordremoth and how that fits into the story. For some players, this may have felt like it came out of nowhere. Up to this point, the only explicit mention of Mordremoth in the core campaign was on the Teeth of Mordremoth skill in Crucible of Eternity.
Season 2 of the Living World assumes that the player character has completed the Personal Story, killed Zhaitan, and has attained the rank of Pact Commander. It also assumes completion of season 1, that the player character killed Scarlet, and has a friendship with Rox, Braham, and the rest of the crew. Because of the PC’s assumed rank in an organization that deals in fighting dragons, and that such knowledge isn’t really a secret (but isn’t widely known as characters in the world have no reason to openly discuss it until now) we wanted the player to make the call by identifying the dragon in a conversation among friends. In hindsight, there should have been more build up or discovery before reaching that point. Lesson learned.
We want to seed Tyria with lore bits and other items that can better educate adventurous players seeking more knowledge on the subject. Keep your eyes open in future releases. Thanks so much for taking the time to post your feedback regarding episode 2.
I assume that means we know the water dragons name too
ill take a shot
The character is indeed voiced. Did you ever played your personal story ?
Warning: nerdy devspeak ahead!
The player character (PC) hasn’t had new voice recorded since the game launched, so you’ll only hear your character speak in the following circumstances: conditional chatter, in cinematic conversations in the Personal Story, and in painterly “full” cinematics. We retired cinematic conversations with the Living World, so right now the PC can only “talk” through unvoiced dialog trees.
We’re exploring some technical improvements that may allow the PC to speak under new circumstances, but it’s actually a bigger undertaking than one would imagine due to the complexity of player voice implementation (10 possible voices, currently shared lines of dialog that we want to split out, scene timing per language, etc.). That’s about all I can say at the moment.
In short, we’re looking to make the PC speak again, but it’s going to take a bit of time to redo the code and content pipelines to make it work, not to mention updating our tools to allow us to generate PC lines that deviate based on race & gender, prior accomplishments, etc. We’re not ready to announce what those changes will actually be or when they might be deployed, but we’re seriously looking into it.
As always, thanks for playing.
Fun fact: SW:ToR had 8 classes with entirely diverging storylines and was and is still fully voiced. With the two genders that means 16 possible voices, with split lines of dialogue (usually 3 choices).
Actually, I’m not saying that you could’ve pulled off something similar as you didn’t have EA’s financial backing (although by not ditching quests for events and cutting down the ridiculous amount of ambivalent dialogue that in 90% of the cases is all about the everyday, boring lives of a zone’s denizens you would’ve had way more resources to concentrate on giving voice to the person who matters the most in an RPG: the PC… my 2 cents). However, I’m still waiting on a branching storyline where my choices matter, I have more than one line of dialogue, and which incidentally also takes my character’s personality, origin, species, and gender into consideration.
Anet doesn’t have those industry Story-Writers and an “estimated to be between $150 million and $200 million or more” to put towards development.
Keep going, SWTOR was reported to have cost upwards of 300 million, to develop and produce, and market. But as Forbes said “if you’re spending 300 million on an mmorpg, you’re doing something wrong.”
And Swtor’s stories are a lot better than the amateur stuff we have in GW2, so it paid off
I was referring to the centaur camp in the title. Is there anything that is in any connection with centaurs?
Yeah there’s a centaur up there
Notice where I am on the map. Need Experimental Rifle from Malchor’s Leap

Just wanted to say thank you for being so constructive in this thread guys. We’re watching threads like this one, and we really find peaceful debates to be highly useful for us when gathering balance perception data.
We know food is an issue that definitely gets people passionate, so thank you for staying calm while voicing your opinions! I can’t make any promises on fixes, but I can say we’re debating this issue internally just like you guys are, and we use your points/counterpoints as reference in our discussions.
Thanks for being awesome!

Can I suggest a mini taimi available to all with a portion of profits going to a multiple sclerosis related charity?
Can someone create a new post about this, along with a reddit post?
No new posts needed; feedback thread has already been passed along.

All I recall from devs on ED sizes is that their champions (Shatterer, Tequatl – those two having been known at the time) were very small compared to the Elder Dragons themselves.
And that the Drakkar Lake beast was too small in their minds to be a proper Elder Dragon thus while originally being a possible Jormag, got changed mid-development to being a dragon champion.
The models of tequatl in arah are smaller than the world boss in sparkfly.
Anet was kind enough to let us know that Mordremoth’s getting revealed at the end.
A signet for eles, the passive would be gain quickness on attunement switch and the active should recharge all attunement cooldowns, also I think the release date should be march 18th, that’d be perfect
I wouldn’t be surprised if jormag’s tooth is bigger than his in game model.

Haha they deleted the leaked comment, they are half brother and sister.

I’ve had a similar thing happen with Tequatl’s death scene playing over and over when you cross a invisible line.
What she saw was omni present, why would an elder dragon be one. That sounds really stupid. Gods usually are. And abaddon could still return.
In the never ending quest to improve our design and find ways to please as many people as possible we’re always digging into constructive criticism. We have not perfected the recipe for an open world boss event, probably because we’re pioneering new territory here.
As far as I can tell there are a couple challenges we are trying to overcome. First, we are trying to teach the community a new skill: self organization. And I’m happy to see that in the aggregate, they ARE learning. I’m sure as this process continues we will find better ways to accommodate the communication structures that will emerge.
Secondly, from both a technical and player-experience perspective, it’s best to break up zergs as much as possible. Thematically keeping everyone feeling like they are contributing to a common cause from multiple locations, and still feel heroic is an interesting challenge to balance. Always looking for new ideas on this issue!
distribute players by parceling them out one platform at a time like a poker dealer rather than selecting platforms for them randomly? Really? As a programmer myself I was astonished when I found out that it was possible to have 5 on one platform and 1 on another. I mean, this is really basic stuff!
Having 5 on one platform and 1 on another could only be a very edge case requiring several people to drop out at the right moment. Our script does exactly what you said, poker dealer style.
let people on platforms who have already completed help out with other platforms
We tried really hard to get this in. Every solution we came up with had technical constraints.
lengthen the timers a bit
The timers and mob HP were balanced and rebalanced several times in an attempt to find a sweet spot that would ensure people couldn’t faceroll the event, but wasn’t so difficult that no one could do it. Everyone’s mileage will vary. And as with any group activity, virtual or real life, there is luck inherent in that. Some people hate that dynamic and some love it. If someone has an idea about how to ameliorate the inherent luck factor in group events, please speak up!
make it easier for parties to be in the same overflow where there’s actually enough people to win
I know there are people working on various solutions to this problem.
have the event scale in difficulty based on the number of players
It scales quite a bit. The more people there are in a lane will change the number of vets and champs that spawn, and the platform boss’s HP scales based on how many end up on the platform.
You should be making sab world 3 get back to work

Why would an Elder Dragon be in the dream? Makes more sense for it to have been a god like being. Abaddon could always return.
It looked perfectly fine before.
Its the fractals update
Should I feel bad for not caring? It’s five days away still, when it arguably should’ve been part of the Tower of Nightmares release itself (after finishing the 50 Toxic Spore task, you could then enter the tower or do an extra task/set of tasks to gain entry).
I mean, why not just get a Searing Cauldron (we found one in Orr, and there’s one in Ascalon as a commune point, I think) or build a huge Megalaser to just take out the tower with minimal risk? With any luck, we could take out that invasive weed too while we’re at it.
Oh well. I’ll wait and see.
They have to stretch their releases into 2 parts per team. I’d much rather 1 release per month with all the content they created.
Toxin Hybrid, the thing standing behind her in the concept art.
You could keep downing one and the ones with high health will keep ressing him as they die to your aoes, it would make the game easier
