Guild Wars 2

Melee hits harder, almost always cleaves with the exception of Necromancer (hits multiple targets), and is significantly harder to avoid with simple movement (you can walk out of the path of many projectiles.). And many melee classes have tools to gap close that are on shorter cooldowns than anything ranged characters can do to reestablish separation.

The Elementalist you’re seeing in Pvp are usually D/D MELEE builds. Mesemers can hang back slightly because the punishment they’re dealing out comes from homing missiles in the from of shattering clones.

For most of the lifespan of this game Ranged damage has been a tragic joke, with Ranger seeing a buff to longbow that finally made them a plausible threat (and that’s about all, because their damage is still HIGHLY telegraphed and avoidable/predictable) and more recently Dragonhunter longbow offering ranged pressure requiring some attention to fight against, but most of their threat is melee range triggered traps.

Melee is the unabashed KING of GW2.

But if you have physical limitations, either personally or due to bad ping/ISP, wouldn’t most Mastery tasks be just as difficult? Adventures, gliding, challenging fights- not just JPs or Diving. And these are much more vital to playing HoT content than a holiday shoulder aura.

I have friends who just can’t do raids because their glider fail on Gorseval is too much of a problem because they have bad pings. But you can’t ask Anet to remove the updraft a from the fight to cater to them..

I don’t even bother my guild about raiding right now with my ISP issues because it would kitten ME off even more than it would them. But most of this game is not nearly as split second as people like to think and you can build around a lot of it (e.g. I still solo flip stuff around the borderlands casually by running a minion-master Reaper).

As long as you think ahead a few seconds 96% of the game can still be done with awareness more than twitch. I’ve also done the southsun jump puzzle easily enough because it only asks for about 10 timed jumps at a time before giving you a place to pause and set up for the next sprint. But the two festival JP have always been my bane. Just up until now the key rewards for those events have allowed me to work around them by doing everything else.

That’s really the issue. There’s slack in the meta-achievement , but there’s zero slack in the collection. Gee, if only the shoulders were in THAT reward chest… Then we could all skip the 1-2 things that annoy us the most.

I had a problem with the jp, spent 4 hours the first day trying then the next day I adjusted my camera speed, lowered the gamma and turned off particle effects and I managed to get 3 done in 1hr. I just need 300g to buy enough drinks now :P

No amount of fiddling is going to change than I get exactly 5 seconds of 60-70 ping followed by 3-5 seconds of DEAD LINE (repeat infinitely). Yes, I’m currently trying to actually choke my ISP to death by willpower alone while waiting for them to fix it, but I have little confidence I’ll see results before I’m completely enmeshed in familial activities for the season.

I’ll experiment, because what else can I do, but my technologically induced handicap is pretty damming.

I might be willing to spend the real cash to buy the gems to buy the presents/drinks, but I’ve NEVER been able to finish one of the timed jump puzzles (Mad King or Wintersday) so I’m pretty much locked out before I even start.

One day ANet might get the idea to have collections that require 10 things for the shiny but have 12 things in the set so we can skip 1-2 of them… They did so well having options for completing the hearts, and then went right back to exact and unavoidable requirements.

When you acknowledge that “move” is either pretty much their entire right-hand tray or coordinated fire from multiple players, then yeah, several classes have that. Thief amongst them. You’re being bursted from stealth (the trap being the hidden part).

its not only thief but other classes cant dodge or attempt escaping unless they get stability on interval, then again daggerstorm gives 3 on interval so idk.

I’m gonna suggest taking the extra seconds to approach them or the point they’re on from a different line. Traps/stealth are mind games. Don’t rush straight in. If you do go straight at them, stop short. Most scrub DHs get supper itchy when you don’t just bull into their traps, and they start to do itchy dumb things.

Most of the time those are already piled up overlapping the dragon’s maw in the first place. If you have a non-hit stealth, run towards him, pop it before you get there, and then circle. Odds are excellent he’ll tell you exactly where the traps are by running to stand in them to bait you in. He’s thinking “come on, backstab me, sucker!” If that pulls ‘m off of dead center of the point, boom, there’s where you need to fight him, on the section not trapped. Take the initiative away from him. rattle him. Don’t play his game.

Yup, this was Priest 101 in WoW when I first started playing a healer right after Burning Crusade launched and I got tired of playing a hunter all through Vanilla.

It worked really well.

Honestly in 6+ years of raiding across 4 games I’ve only had to do it maybe 5 times. Of those maybe two were so dumb I had to tell them directly they could either shut up and get heals or keep talking if they wanted suck more floor. Turns out hyperactive would-be achievers A ) don’t like to watch the raid succeed without them from face down on the floor and & B ) are vastly easier to replace than a raid-ready healer.

People wanted raids? They get the role power-politics that go with them.

(…and NOBODY gives a tank unwarranted grief. The personality type that likes tanking is even rarer than healers. My rule of thumb is 7:3:1 for DPS:heals:tank gameplay preference)

But, if you are gonna quit out of a group, withdraw gracefully. When the post run chit-chat happens its always better to be the one they want next time when they know it’s a choice of you or the other guy.

Tradepost players make zero progress on achievements after that “I have 200 gold” one. This thread is all about how unreasonable and unfair it is that all play styles aren’t rewarded equally. If that’s true, then the only reasonable course to achieve greater parity is allow players to buy achievements.

Dragons’ Maw isn’t a root or a CC. It puts you in a box. Try stability.

The real challenge of raids is finding 9 other people you can stand to be around for an activity that’s not a cakewalk. THAT is what raid loot is trying to incentivize, because you can build encounters that are every bit as challenging (or moreso) for solo or small group play.

I’ve both raided and lead raids on several other MMOs and to me it’s FAR more important to find people who are tolerant, patient, and mature enough to know that building a stable group means coping with a few less than apex skill level payers and helping them get up to speed. That know you are gonna get beat down a few times learning/developing strategies. That recognize that while we may only meet one night a week, there’s six other days you could be working on your character or helping other people on the team get what they need to shine.

Obnoxious raid groups are one of the worst experiences to be had from MMOs.

No. I completed all story lines in core tyria, ls season 1 and 2 and HoT but i usually didnt go for the extra achievements because neither the individual rewards nor the accociated AP had much appeal to me as a reward.
I completed half the slayer achis and have another 40% of those on 75% or higher.
Those i didnt complete yet arent usually found in lvl 80 areas or in wvw, which i played alot before HoT.
Same goes for weaponmaster achis. only 6 or 7 maxed, i think. GS,SW, Rifle, Hammer, Spear, Speargun and Staff. Thats because i only play warrior and mostly played gs/sw/wh for the best part of 3 years. I use rifle as alt weapon in pve, if i need range but longbow is close to complete and i used hammer when i was doing guild raids in wvw.
Its hard to kill people with a warhorn ( i managed 7, from blasting combo fields, i guess) and i only maxed staff because i think kills with arrow carts (or all siege) in wvw count as staff kills.

I do have all wvw achis (except realm avenger) and eotm achis complete, though.

And now you can tell me why you asked.

Because it seems like there’s parts of the game that don’t win themselves from playing the trading post . I’m sure you’re fiercely, intensely jealous that while I have a miniscule fraction of your wealth I have all kinds of achievements you don’t have. Seething, even . I mean, it’s just so unfair.

We should probably start a thread where they need to add the option to buy all of them with coin because it’s completely unreasonable that all possible styles of play don’t net equivalent rewards.

You appear to be saying “Hey, I’m the majority playstyle and so I should be the best rewarded” when in fact everything about this game is designed to reward non-standard play over being the herd. A simple manifestation of this is monsters gain an XP bonus for how long they ’ve been on map without being killed, rewarding people sometime 8 to 10 times as much XP for playing off the beaten path. The TP in particular is designed to punch sheep-like buying and selling square in the face.

If you do what ‘everyone’ is doing you’d better like it for the gameplay.
