Agree 100%. This needs to be a permanent addition to the game.
Oh my….I don’t know what I just watched, but whatever it was, I loved it. XD
Straight outta WoW, looks like Braham got bored of crafting and raiding. Came here instead and brought his favourite items with him.
That Mace is bigger than him…o_________o
It added a bit of flavour to the mission and was extremely adorable. <3
Glad that people like these. We’ll do more in the future, perhaps.
Perhaps?! I think you meant to say for sure. (o:
Tybalt is quite the special case, and well, I can’t explain too much about him without going into spoilers. I don’t think he can be included in this at all though. He most certainly lives by charr code.
Either way, I truly wish that Arenanet doesn’t go too far down the “cuddly kitty cat” spectrum for a long time. Poor Rox has sparked quite the discussion and while discussing Charr aesthetics is very interesting, its not going to lead to Rox getting her eyeballs re-examined, you know?Maybe they will on some faces and maybe they won’t because they have to please both crowds. So expect some cuddly kitty innocent look and expect mean grouchy grumpy kitty look.
- Everyone wins
I really wonder what the male depiction of ‘kitty/house cat’ like Charr will be like if they are planning to expand and give more variety to both genders…XD
Lol! Mascara tubes, charr claws and eyeballs being a recipe for disaster. I don’t have anything against makeup, but that is quite a funny image to picture.
(edited by Nimmi.1650)
I think the keyword is ‘inspired’. XD
(edited by Nimmi.1650)
Yay more faces for character creation would be awesome ! : D
Ahh well, I decided to try my chance at $20 + 800 gems I already had from ages ago. It was pretty much spare money I kept for GW2 anyways. Plus, I hadn’t wanted any cash skins until this one. Got one on the final chest, yay! Just under 30 chests opened. ^-^
Still, I do not advise gambling…XD
(edited by Nimmi.1650)
If you change the name of one of your characters will his/her old name be ‘saved’???
When you delete a character, the names is sorta saved or held for your account. That way, you have a chance to recreate and keep it without the worry of having it be taken by another player. I was wondering if name changes work the same way. Thanks! (o:
(edited by Nimmi.1650)
I would really like one on these weapons. Unfortunately, I know my luck and it’s far from good. If only they weren’t account bound. ;;
I already commented on this, but loving the new cutscenes!
Aww, I really hope you can get those eyes too Brutalistik. Flame and Frost isn’t over yet, so you never know! And if we don’t see it, maybe they will add a variation of it or something in the future. I know for a fact, you are not the only person who wants it. (o:
I can relate on so many levels though. There was a Charr face for males that never made it into game a loooong time ago. I will never forget it….
Not even the dragons could get in the way of our meat. :P
I thought it would of stopped there, but it seems a few people are going in deeper in this light issue than needed over the
- eyes
Hehehe, 1st world problems. It’s what we do. :P
This reminds me of before launch when we couldn’t select eye colours. People who asked for it got similar responses. XD Anyways, I don’t think discussing Rox is wrong. I really love her character so far and am excited to see what becomes of her. Her AI wow’ed me at first. Sure it wasn’t amazing, but what a shocker! Such an improvement to have an ally that doesn’t die from every single mob. I couldn’t believe she actually had the ability to heal herself. I only had to revive her a grand total of one time and that was mainly my own fault! ONE TIME!!!! I can’t possibly be the only person to notice how much better she is when it comes to fighting. Her bow skills too…. As a ranger, I must ask where are my cool green poison effects with barrage? :P As long as Anet doesn’t turn her into Rytlock’s future love interest all is good for me. I don’t know how I would react if that were to happen…xD
(edited by Nimmi.1650)
Another thing I really love is how much improved our Allied AI is. Both Braham and Rox hold themselves up pretty well. They actually know how to heal!!!
Not quite related but since you don’t like war….
Another Charr I can think of is Laria Sharpeye. She does not suffer from any injuries or illnesses, but she is described as a very shy character who prefers life outside of the battle field. Instead of fighting, she does paper work for Rytlock Brimstone. You can find her in his office. I really like this character because it shows Charr society is not as one dimensional as many think. It does have it’s place for those who fit outside of the war life.
While Brimstone is away, a little conversation will occur where a blood legion soldier arrives in with a message. When the soldier learns that Laria is the only one to be found she refuses to give her the message and insults her by calling her a cub. Laria does eventually get what she wants out of the soldier by using keen words. Charr that do not fight may not always be respected by everyone, but they can get around if given the opportunity to.
That’s such an interesting thought. I try my best to speak to every Charr with dialog in game. I have only met one that I can recall at the moment with both mental and physical injuries who can no longer preform in acts of war. All of the others I have spoken with in a similar situation only suffer from physical issues. It seems a lot of those Charr make themselves useful in society in their own ways. Such as gathering, fishing, lodging, ranching and farming. I would imagine Charr who suffer from mental illnesses may do the same if he/she has the ability to do so. If lucky, they may even be taken into care. I imagine that might be a rare thing though.
The one I am thinking of in particular is in Iron Marches. Screenshot below. If you give the charming response, she will say, “Thanks, but it is a my duty. Our new warband is supportive. I wasn’t sure they would accept her, since she hasn’t contributed to much, but they did. It’s not the mine, but it will do.”
(edited by Nimmi.1650)
I can understand that. Seeing Rox beside a normal Charr is slightly frightening. Especially when it’s Weindrasi’s fem Charr in the same picture. She is probably the meanest looking gal in the game. Makes my male look like a cub, haha. :P I suppose the best you can do is give feedback and hope Anet caters to it. They have done so a lot in this patch in other areas of the game, and I highly doubt adjustments to her eyes would be that hard to do.
I’ve seen that article on WoW before and it sends shivers down my spine. Now I remember why I couldn’t stick to the the game as anything other than a feral druid. xD Still, 10x better than Elin/Popori and Perfect World’s Untamed not that it is any reason to justify how bad that is.
Unrelated, sorry I keep editing so much. English is not my first language and I try my best to fix my spelling errors. >____<;;
(edited by Nimmi.1650)
At least her voice was not as annoying as her face.
If you look at it that way, her character isn’t so bad either. I was a little afraid they were going to make her personality extremely feminine. XD
The problem with the skull theory is if you draw the skulls of all the faces we have for Charr, they are all different. Since they all draw different inspirations from various breeds of felines. Worgens on the other hand, I’m not too familiar with WoW so please correct me if I am wrong, have the same shape of heads for all of their presets from what I remember? Aside from gender that is.
Not saying something isn’t wrong with her, just that it is hard to compare Worgen and Charr in that sense. That thought aside, I agree with you 100% on the failure of WoW’s design. I really hate to see this kind of difference in gender. It’s one of my bigger peeves about the bestial races in most MMOs. I ultimately overlook it because I doubt it will ever change. I’ve come to believe that I must be the only person in the world to feel this way because every time I have ever brought it up, it has been treated to a lot of bashing. This is a trait actually seen within the Charr pretty prominently. Examples being, females get more ‘realistic’ feline faces, while males males are stuck with exaggerated monstrous ones. Along with other little things, such as females not being allowed to have abs for an option and males unable to remove them. Some females can show Abs when they jump, but I don’t count that. >_<
(Please don’t hate me for this, lol). Dare I say, Lyns from Blade and Soul are probably the only animal inspired race which doesn’t share this trait. Despite it, gender is still fairly easy to differentiate in game by they way they act, walk and speak. Very creative of Team Bloodlust. They also share clothes amongst their genders similar to the Charr. It’s the main reason I really like the Lyn. Not because they are cute, but because the whole race was designed to be truly equal with a few exceptions for outfits. (IE. girls having dresses, boys can wear tuxes on one or two outfits and what not). I seriously wish there were more created in a similiar fashion out there. Team Bloodlust could have easily done what is seen within the Elin/Popori, Untamed, Worgen or Charr. Instead, they chose to do something a little different and a lot of their fan base praise the Lyn for it.
(edited by Nimmi.1650)
I am so glad they added her horns into customization. Those side grooves are awesome and you can make such a demonic looking Charr with them! I just wish you could actually adjust their size. They are quite big. XD I’m debating whether I want to use them for my female. :P
It’s too bad her hair and face didn’t make it for the people who wanted them. D: More options would have been lovely.
If you’d all just gone to the Pale Tree for help, this’d all be solved by now. Silly meat people.
I respect Sylvari, but I think Trahearne has done enough for us already. Lets just keep him where he is for now, please. I beg of you.
(edited by Nimmi.1650)
She’s cute. I think she looks like Tardar Sauce, Grumpy cat.
Hehehehehe, Tardar Sauce. <3
Anyways, she doesn’t look that bad in game. The eyes could still use a improvement as they are very flat. Her voice doesn’t fit her appearance all that well either. It sounds much older than she looks. I’m pretty sure that is something we will have to get used to based on Arena-nets past replies towards VOs. If any VO needs fixing, it’s Trahearne’s. Overall, I don’t mind her. Still seems like a Charr (with very very big eyes) to me, but a Charr no less. XD
(edited by Nimmi.1650)
Oh my gosh, did they give us ‘real’ cut scenes for conversations instead of those out of world still ones? I only started the razing content and won’t be able to play through the stories yet because of work. If that’s true, it’s one step in the right direction!
And unrelated, name changes. <3 Love the name changes.
(edited by Nimmi.1650)
Here are screenshots of female heads with biggest eyes for you guys. :P Number 4….XD
Anyways, Her eyes are still a tad bit bigger, but you could put her beside faces 2, 3 and 5 pretty easily. Especially if they were adjusted to be a little smaller. You might be able to set her next to number 8 as well, but she’s pretty elderly looking and those big eyes make her look…errr….‘interesting’ at the very least. All of those faces share similar qualities though. They have the shorter snout, smaller teeth/mouth, rounder face and bigger eyes. Much like Rox, with the exception that her eyes are slightly larger, not by too much.
1, 6, 4 and 7 appear a bit more ‘lion-esque’ to a degree, while the rest seem to be inspired by ‘smaller’ breeds of felines in comparison. 7 has a shorter snout and 4 has larger eyes. Both of those faces are pretty monstrous and are much more loosely based off of felines, similar to most male Charr. Not sure if many would bundle those four together because of that.
Edit: Added males…xD
(edited by Nimmi.1650)
That new screenshot makes her seem a bit better or maybe I’ve just stared at her way too much to be able to differentiate at this point. Her face on the first instantly screamed fruit bat at me, not necessarily in a bad way. She really does look impish which I kind of like. XD
The second picture is quite a bad screenshot all together. I will write that one off since bad screenshots never justify what’s really in game.
(edited by Nimmi.1650)
Thank you. There are so many spelling errors in that huge post. XD I used to do work for a couple projects, and they had me criticizing a lot artwork. I chose which pieces went through to the final project and gave people advice on how to stay within the style. I’ve learned the hard way what the difference between giving good and bad feedback/criticism is. I am in no way an expert, but it really does make a difference in my experience. Points can easily be made and expressed without getting rude. If you want respect in return, you must show it first. ^^ Art is a very personal thing. Even when it’s business, there’s still an inspiration, personality and person behind every piece.
I think It’d be really awesome to play as a Gladium Charr and to earn your place in society Genoss!
Anyways, I should probably leave this thread alone as I have already expressed my feelings and given suggestions towards Rox.
(edited by Nimmi.1650)
There’s both positive and negative feedback. Then there’s also good and bad feedback. It seems we have an abundance of all four in this thread, mostly bad unfortunately. XD I hope that Anet will not write off the good positive/negative feedback just because of the bad.
The best way to voice your opinion and give criticism is to do it in the shoes of the artist. If you were the person or company who designed Rox, which piece of feedback would you likely listen to?
1. “What in the world?! Ewww, nasty gross. Ugliest character design ever! I hate you Anet for doing this. Blah blah blah. This is trash, I am never making a Charr again because of -insert reason here without any real constructive criticism- !!!”
or
2. “Hi there! I really enjoy the Charr, but I believe something isn’t quite right about the new character’s eyes. It may be at best interest to adjust them to look more natural. -example of what you believe is better here-. At the moment, they appear much too big. This is throwing off some of the other features on her face, and it’s causing her to appear slightly distorted or disproportionate in certain places. If you were to make them a bit smaller, it would -please insert why this idea would be better- Etc, etc, etc. I would be very grateful if you took all of this into consideration! Thank you so much for taking the time to read up on what I have to say. The original design behind the female Charr is very inspiring to me and I hope you remain loyal to it. I honestly think it’s great that you chose a female Charr to be the next lead in the upcoming patch! Seriously, Charr should lead everything!!!”
Short and simple, but still gets all the points across. A lot of heart and time goes into art. ^^ Giving feedback the way you would want to receive it is the another good way to look at things. It shows you have care, interest, passion and respect for whatever/whoever it is you are criticizing. In short, a little common courtesy can go a long ways.
(Note – The feedback examples aren’t actually something I stand with. They’re just random examples I thought up of. I don’t find Rox all that game breaking, but think a bit of improvement on the way the eyes are shaded wouldn’t hurt).
(edited by Nimmi.1650)
That’s kind of like spitting in our faces buddy lols no respect at all.
Just a little bit. I could think of a thousand things I could say, or generalize the people who are against Rox into. Fortunately, I don’t believe that will amount to anything and I honestly hate to judge anyone before I know them. I’m only human. Sometimes I cannot help it, but I try my best none of the less. In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with leaving feedback whether it is negative or positive. Especially if it’s constructive, and I must admit, I do see some great feedback here by awesome posters on both ends of the spectrum.
Sorry, I just felt the need to voice my opinion on this matter.
//Cannot count how many hours, days and weeks I spent on this race Pre-launch and Post.
(edited by Nimmi.1650)
There isn’t a right or a wrong charr.
Incorrect. Let’s view this from another race’s perspective. Let’s say that a human had 3 arms. Nobody would have any of that. I get the feeling that people who are ok with Rox are people who aren’t huge charr fans. You’d hear outrage on the forums if Anet did this to a human NPC.
…Err…I hate to come back to this thread again…>____>;;;;;;
I think generalizing people who are okay with Rox as not being ‘huge fans’ of the Charr is untrue. Some people have different tastes, while others are fans in their own way. There are also those who may just be more lenient/passive towards change.
(edited by Nimmi.1650)
I see you are Iron legion fan
,tell me which colors are those?
For Iron Legion!!!!
Although Tooth here is actually with Blood Legion….XD Like Rytlock, he just thinks Iron Legion colours are so much cooler. :P He is using a mixture of both celestial dye and ebony. ^^;; White, greys and off blacks (charcoal, onyx, etc) are usually my favorites to have on armor and characters as well, so it seems….
I never noticed until today that all my PCs have either grey, white or black skin/fur.
(edited by Nimmi.1650)
I logged on to the forums when I saw the picture this thread was referring to. I just have to say as a personal opinion I do not like those eyes. All of the characters in the game so far have a “realistic” look to them. I put realistic in parenthesis because realistically none of the races except the humans exist in real life. This would be the equivalent of putting googly eyes on a hylek. Yes, a Hylek’s eyes are big and round, but they don’t look absurd because their eyes were drawn with various shades and colors bringing a more believable and realistic eye to their race. On this Charr here we see two very flat colors, green and black, contrasting in such a way that it looks almost like an early 90’s cartoon eye. I’m fine with new eye styles, but these particular eyes strike me as a little creepy. I feel as if she is looking straight into my soul and wants to eat my thoughts.
This is pretty much my look on it too. I do not mind the size at all. It’s mostly just the lack of depth in the eyes themselves. I already posted on the other thread my suggestion. In general though, Rox’s look isn’t actually game breaking for me. I could live with her as she is now, but a little improvement on the way the eyes are coloured wouldn’t hurt. :P
Hahaha, well that would definitely save me a lot more money…XD
Words cannot describe how amazing this piece is.
So very true! A little flavour text goes a long way.
This is my very first Charr at the moment. He/She is currently shelved, but I hope to come back to her some day. The reason I say ‘he/she’ is because I cannot decide on a gender or look I want for the fella yet, errr…XD The character was originally male and has been subjective to change back and fourth quite a few times now. : x She is female for the mean while, but I think I will most likely change her into a male once again in the future.
(edited by Nimmi.1650)
Mister Tiddles. Seriously, my favorite name in this whole thread right now. <3
Garron Honorblade is definitely both lore friendly and rebel sounding. I love it! 10/10.
I doubt these will be rated highly because I’m partial to both real words and one word names, haha. :P I currently have two Charrs, one of them is named Tooth and the other is named Squire. I tried to choose words that could be associated with the Charr to an extent. It’s a tad bit hard, when a majority of common English words are taken. ;;
(edited by Nimmi.1650)
Nimmi – Maybe I am coming off as somewhat aggressive and for that I am sorry. I am quite used to forums having nothing to contribute but rude peanut galleries ala the WoW forums and such.
No no, it’s very much alright. I don’t mean to come off as rude or aggressive either. I can completely understand you, as I have been gaming since good old UO as well. There’s definitely a lot of stereotypical tropes I would love to see extinguished within MMOs that are still dragging along today. I don’t wish for that door to be closed on you. If anything, expanded on.
(edited by Nimmi.1650)
So you want the males to get sleek, ferocious, older, basically stuff that actually fits with the Charr. However giving that to the female Charr as well such as this new story character we see a ton of is bad? No no no! According to you we need generic cutesy anime Charr to truly get real creative options for the female Charr right? Wouldn’t anything within this amazing theme they have put forth for the Charr but far more creative and better? Considering cutesy is a trope stereotype for beast races that needs badly like metal things to be broken. So we can have a cool beast like race in it’s own right?
KorKor aggressive as ever, aren’t we? You have taken my post completely out of context. I believe females deserve sleek, ferocious, older and younger options just as much as the males do. Now, I must ask you one thing if you do not mind. Can you please quote me in exact where I said anything along the lines of, “According to ‘myself’, we need generic cutesy anime Charr to truly get real creative options for the female Charr”?? I’m sure you would have trouble, because I did not state that at all. What I said was, I believe people should proudly play their characters no matter how they look; whether that is cute, fearsome, or non-stereotypical. I also mentioned that I would love more variety and options within the race in general, also listing examples. Yes they were highlighted towards males because I play males in particular, but my view towards females is no different. One of the big reasons I like this race is because of it’s equality towards gender after all. Flame legion aside. As much as I respect your strong opinion on this, which believe me, I do. I cannot bring myself to agree with you until I have seen and experienced Rox in game for myself. Personally, I do not perceive her as an anime character as of yet and I hope we can agree to disagree.
Forgive me, I did not read further past that paragraph. I skimmed the rest.
(edited by Nimmi.1650)
Only for some people, not all. I personally like variety in Charr and whether your character is cutesy, non-stereotypical or the most freaking monstrous looking Charr character in all of Tyria, you should play him/her proudly. Now if only the males could be given such a luxury in the future. Not necessarily ‘goo-goo cute’ look, but just more different types of options in general. Eg. Sleek, older, younger and even more ferocious. At least females can cover a good range of age and aesthetics with their selection. Especially if they are given bigger horns, as those would pair well with the more fearsome looking female presets. ^^
I’m sure Anet will update character options when they feel time is best for it. I’m okay with what we currently have, but won’t argue with more for both genders. :P In terms of Rox herself, I have seen both good and bad feedback about her on this forum and others.
(edited by Nimmi.1650)
Sorry, I didn’t mean exact face. I meant similar. You can get some pretty big atrocious looking eyes on some of those faces. Still, I don’t see how you know this character was created with that logic behind her. The chances are it could have been a genuine choice by the designers.
On a side note, I personally find it a little sad you can judge somebody so heavily by the face.
(edited by Nimmi.1650)
I think you are over exaggerating Rox by quite a bit. She is like every other Charr with slightly different features in her face. I would in no way think that is even close to ‘Worgen porn’ or breaking original design theories. The character is still sprouting Charr armor, a flat chest, claws and everything else about Charr anatomy. The only real difference being her bigger eyes and button nose. Two features. A look you can create yourself using the current presets and sliders.
My Charr Tooth when I first made him and how he looks currently! I really like this face, because you can adjust the eyes to look pupiless/blind.
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8245/8579660931_f5078a1cef_c.jpg
(horrid screen, but shows the eyes!) xD
(edited by Nimmi.1650)
Definitely a nice difference there Greyfur. She looks a lot less Looney Toons and a bit more realistic with smaller eyes. I would probably go for even smaller too.
Blood Legion story
Random rancher after you shoo a cow with explosives into his cart:
“-Did you really have to shoo these cows into my cart?
(Ferocity) -Yes
- Youre really cute!
(Charm) -Youre not bad either
-I wasnt… Uh… Jeez!”
Lol
That was one of my favorite parts in the Charr story….XD I lol’ed.
As for why the Charr??
1. Run animation. Although not the most realistic, it’s still awesome.
2. Dinky.
3. Not your typical race female wise, despite not playing any female characters myself.
4. Awesome character creation options.
Could not argue against any of those points!
Well I did say ‘inspired’ and that I felt the eyes were off in my previous post. XD
I have to agree with everyone. That mace is absolutely amazing! Kudos to the designer and or artists. Such a great job was done with it!
It may be the hard truth, but what the Charr look like is up to Anet to decide and expand on, not us. I personally perceive her as a little wild cat more so than a house kitten. That is just my opinion of course.
Edit: I compared her to some wild cats and she actually resembles a lynx quite closely. Not in ears, however the side tuffs and facial structure do look somewhat inspired by one.
