I personally thought I had more survivability pre patch.
All I saw in the whole transcript was this:
1) We didnt want to put in a grind, but we did. Oops, we’ll fix that. (Ok fix it and we’ll see).
2) “But GW2 was designed without those restrictions, and we’ve always expected that we will someday raise the level cap in GW2.”
Kitten That! This game would have to be AMAZING for me to buy any expansion that raised the cap right now, and right now it frankly doesn’t. You want to talk about dead zones? Who is going to do temple runs at level 90? Are you going to scale them back so 1-2 people can do them and then lower the price of the rewards to match.
So no guardian in party = no melee?
And thus guardian became the most wanted class for dungeons. So much for being able to do perfectly any dungeon with a party composed of any class because “oh, no holy trinity” eh?
Bomb Engineer spec’d for heals has a lot to offer too, people just aren’t in the know because there are more bad guardians out there than good engineers.
(It’s still too easy for melee to take a beating though).
Rare drop off of Tazza, Path 1 Sorrow’s Embrace.
The second one is from Arah. I’m not sure where.
Those aren’t discoverable?
I think most people would be better off buying one from the TP
1) “Skill Based” – I didn’t know that meant traveling the world and farming various areas for specific skills and class setups for all my heros, but it was a lot better than gear based grind, esp since I could share them with my minions. – This isn’t in GW2
They did borrow the limited skill bar from GW1, which I think was a good choice. I hated having to have all those macros and junk in WoW to use my 30 some skills and items.
2) No Gear Treadmill – This took me a LONG time to even wrap my head around after 5 years of wow, but once I got it, I loved it. I went to Cantha, found the guy to make my set, and then started saving for a cooler looking set that I could rune up a slightly different way for a different skill build. – Obv NOT in GW2.
3) FTP – In GW2, Thanks! (I wouldn’t have bothered if this was $15 a month).
4) Codex – Obviously since this isn’t about different skill combinations this doesn’t work in GW2.
5) The ability to solo stuff, or bring a hero if our party needed 1 more. – This was very valuable to me in GW1 since I started very late. I did 95% of the campaign with minions. This is not in GW2, but I’m not really sure it should be. With a few notable exceptions they have done a pretty good job with dynamically scaled events, and I don’t think you should be able to solo minion farm dungeons.
There are other things GW2 has to offer that GW1 didn’t, like WvW, crafting, nixing the trinity. (I played a monk because I knew it would get me groups, but I wasn’t the best one).
I personally think these are priced ok. In RL money they are similar to what they charged in GW1. I bought more bank and more character slots. (There was no gold option).
What I think are overpriced is just about everything else. Obviously they think the skin prices are ok based on sales, so that’s fine, but anything random and anything like crafting boosters et is just a waste.
Before GW2 launched my friends and I were playing World of Tanks which is a FTP first person vehical shooter. Their model was extremely addicting. Like GW they gave you stuff for free but you could enhance your game play by buying xp boosts, lower repair costs, transferable xp et. We are all tightwads and between the 3-4 of us we spent well over $500 in 3 months.
I’ll tell you why: 1) Nothing Random – I knew exactly what I was buying. 2) Sales. I actually thought about buying stuff this weekend, but I held my money because I wanted to see what was going to be on sale later in the weekend. I ended up buying nothing. Had they just put all 9 items on sale for 3 days I’m sure I would have bought something. 3) Value Added. For about $2-3 on a sale weekend I could get a 50% xp boost ALL WEEKEND. That same money here buys me a couple hours of game time and the boosts are minimal at best. Upping the boost might be unbalancing, so lower the price and get me wanting to use more. That’s what they did. The xp you got per game was depressing for the first few days after the weekend, so it made you want to either up for 3 days next weekend, or just up for a month and play it like a subscription game.
Protip for Anet. We aren’t as loyal as you think we are. Use that as a strength not a weakness.

Good to know. Based on my current gold gains I’ll be able to get one by my birthday.
Anyone know if DR affects karma gains in WvW. I ran with a zerg today and got about 5k. I know thats not enough to hit DR but I didn’t have that long to play.
it’s very clear that Anet realized the reason people had easy early legendaries was because the materials weren’t as hard to get as people thought. All they had to do was grind gold/karma and buy the underpriced mats from the TP.
Personally I liked them until it was time to actually go do a zone, then you just saw 500 rangers running around and it got annoying.
The only thing I don’t like right now is the prices of wood/metal have gone down because there is no way to convert them into other things without rare materials.
You’ve got plenty of time to grind a few rares or some money for ectos. Those upgraded jewel slots aren’t going to stop you from getting them.
I would put it in your bank in case you ever want that look again. See the very long thread about whether or not you can get it back.
I actually play the healing bomb build and other than having issues with mobs that run around , mobs that are anti melee and being unable to heal casters and myself at the same time I find the class strong and effective. People will see you as invaluable as a guardian.
I will tell you I’m very bored with it. Once you’ve done the combos you describe a bunch you can pull them off regularly but outside of that its spamming 1 on bomb kit waiting for cooldowns. I never felt this way on P/P but I doubt I was contributing much then either.
Most players who buy gems would rather get more gold for them.
Would be good to know. That’s one I think I would actually use.
Fine mats are so expensive they are more expensive to skill on than runes?
I could see this with tailor since cloth costs so much (maybe that’s the same issue here) but I skilled up buying insignia from the TP and discovering armor.
3-4g is a decent estimate.
Carrion Armor is crafted by players and generally found all over the TP.
It’s one of the cheaper sets, or at least it was when everyone was farming bones.
I think its to make up for the fact that the rare mats for the other professions take 15 fine mats. Yours take 3 gems.
Site seems to be down at the moment.
The time doesn’t matter. (30 min per wing is ok for a no wipe run). What matters is how much time is spent clearing boring trash, or on boss fights that are tank and spank with WAY too many HP. The extra HP don’t add to the difficulty. We were killing something the other night and honestly I went AFK and got a drink during a boss fight while spamming auto attack.
That dumb jellyfish in fractals comes to mind. Really boring.
They put the keys in at a discount and you complain. If they sent you $100 bills, you’d complain how they were folded.
Thanks for all the responses. I did two more tiers today. I think people are getting the hang of them and they are getting easier to PUG.
Personally I’d rather farm the Potent Blood than do 100 fractals, but I guess it doesn’t matter other than obsidian shards I wouldn’t be spending the tokens on anything else.
Except for the people who would do this. “LFG Daily dungeon, 80’s only quick run plz”
Still sounds like a good idea.
Your mining $$ was pretty bad if that was pre-patch.
I used to make about 1.5-2g an hour mining in SoD and Frostgorge. (Trees were 41c a log or something dumb like that).
I make most of my money other ways too, mostly involving arbitrage.
As far as legendaries are concerned, you guys have your 77 clovers right? You know that the byproduct of clover farming are T6 mats right?
They aren’t a primary material for sure, so just buy them.
Where do they come from exactly and what kind of drop rate are you guys seeing? I’ve run few Fractals. My guild is content to farm the old dungeons and I’ve just now finally past level 1.
Do they come from Boss Mob? Chests? Trash?
For some reason I thought they said every drop this patch was going to be able to be bought/sold on the TP, but when I looked up Mists Essence on the wiki it says account bound.
It’s not like they came out and said, so guys in development we wanted something like ascended armor from GW1 but we didn’t have the mechanic just right, so rather than launching it unfinished we put it in a large content update and scaled down the legendaries temporarily.
No – They announced it like WoW and every other grind based MMO. That’s why they are catching heat, because there is nothing preventing 3 months from now,
Fractals TWO, the Higher Ascended.
I played GW1 for about a year. I was late to the party started about 2 years ago. (Finished all the campaigns but EotN). I got my lvl 20 gear and scoured the forums because I couldn’t believe that was truly it in gear progression. Yea there were spiffy armors that cost 15x the mats and required crazy vabbi grinds or tons of ectos but they had the same stats as mine.
I loved Z-keys and Vanquishing. (Couldn’t find a guild worth a crap but that might have been my fault).

What’s up with Lodestones/Cores/Fragments (Rare mats I guess) not having a slot? They didn’t think we’d get enough of them?
Maybe make it like most other jumping puzzles and not make it portable?
Meh, there is less chance of dying from 3-4 Minotaur than from 1 Karka.
They are good for people leveling alts who want cheap gear.
I bumped up my bag size, and honestly I rarely run out of room in a run anymore.
Really? I’ll have to look into that.
Bonus xp seems wierd anyway. A lot of items just say +10. Did they leave off the % because I seem to get more than 10.
4-6 hours of farming for a character slot. Seems ok to me considering how much time they take to level (and equip et).
You can expect to make usually 3-4 less of the highest tier (which are the most expensive).
Just move it to Karka Land rather than in LA. Nobody is going out there anyway once you do the content. It’s one of the most boring zones on the map. Back to Orr or Frostgorge for me.
So how would one complete the orr maps? now no one does them? i guess i’m screwed trying to get my map completions in such hard zones solo
Good thing you don’t need groups to do map completion.
(Not to mention you likely haven’t got all the WvW zones yet)>
I ran TA last night and I was getting 500 karma drops off of boss mobs. Pays to not skip it seems. (Drop of Liquid Karma)
Why should he have to pay “Max bid” while the bot buys things cheaper?
Perhaps they should investigate who is placing the orders and check for bot like activity like he suggests. (Since buyer/seller are transparent to us)
Just give a switch. Personally I like it.
I rode the wave well on T5 mats, but my bankroll was too small honestly. Plus I never thought I’d see Claws/Fangs over 1s and Blood over 3s.
If the rare mini is that rare I should have bought some. They were under 1g on the TP last night.
It’s possible you don’t have the right dust. I know I had to re-read that part about which dust to use several times.
Short answer: Yes. Sell the ones you don’t need buy the ones you do.
Long answer: Do what they said and buy the insignia/inscription since people sell them below cost for some reason.
The infusion slot for PvE progression doesn’t bother me in the least. The extra stats that unbalance WvW do.
I wish we had a trench coat option for medium armor.
Win. Man we cried for coats in other games and here we’re drowning in them.
“Dragon lieutenants are a great test of skill”
“LFM AC Speed run. LVL 35+”
“I wish there were more revealing female armor skins”
Two hours a day is 2 TV shows. You’re telling me most people in the world are unable to watch 2 TV shows in one day because it’s a hardcore time commitment and they have lives?
I have played plenty of MMO’s with adult, working people, many of whom were married and/or had children. You don’t have to be “people without jobs and students neglecting their classes” to play an MMO for 2 hours.
As one of those married w/ kids people who plays after work, I agree.
During my HWL Grind I was unemployed and depressed. But I’m still really good at any CTF game type.
I had to head over to BLTC to see we weren’t talking about the normal 6-8s per lemon orders but people showing off how much gold they have by posting orders for Lemons.
I think it would be down right funny if an ANET gm replaces his buy order during maintenance one day with 1 lemon for pickup.
