Liadri does need work; some people may be forgetting that games are supposed to be fun, and Liadri’s 1HKOs, time limit, visuals, and the time it takes to challenge her are not fun. Liadri is not a fun fight. That is undeniable, even if you had fun fighting her.

I had lots of fun fighting her, and many others did too.

Most GW2 boss encounters can’t hold a candle to WoW’s finer boss fights (assuming one refers to 25mans/heroic).

Comparing GW2 to WoW makes me chuckle. GW2 is barely 1 year old. You must have not played WoW in its infancy, because the encounters they created then were incredibly buggy, simplistic and boring. You mentioned “heroic”, which was not even something that was designed until about 4 years after WoW’s release; until then there was only one mode of raiding.

Anyways, after several years, the raid designers of WoW began to learn their craft in addition to them gaining new tech to make the encounters more interesting. Why was Molten Core more simplistic than Ahn’Qiraj? Not only were the designers new to making raids, but programmers were developing new tools for them as well to make things more fun! GW2 is a relatively young game, so their tools at the designers disposal are going to be limited at first.

Speaking from experience as someone who did bleeding edge progression for Hard Modes and later Heroic encounters, many of the fights did not require overwhelming amounts of personal responsibility. Most of the difficulty came from a raid of 25 players working together as cogs in a machine, each only worrying about 1 or 2 additional levels of personal responsibility at any given moment. (There were some exceptions of course, like Hard Mode Mimiron)

It happens when you use Reflect on her when she casts her whip. It’s quite annoying because it can interrupt your Dodge.

It’s the primary reason while Phantasmal Warden destroys her. It’s reflecting her Bleeding, Cripple and Weakness back to her.

If you are a Mesmer, just be aware of this bug when you use Mirror. If you do not want it to happen, just use a different heal.

One thing I think should have been done, remove time limit on last boss.

Hardest boss in the arena (most would agree) and you put the same short time limit on the player. I understand you want to quicken the wait for players. But when you have to focus and do so much 2 mins is just mean.

If the bosses had no time limit, someone could sit inside and troll it indefinitely.

It’s 3 minutes not 2, by the way.

That has absolutely nothing to do with people having technical issues with the fight and not being able/willing to complete it because of those issues.

Sorry that Liadri has made you so bitter; perhaps it’s time you took a break from it, instead of trolling the forums with you negativity and hate-mongering. Seriously- calling players “chimps”? That’s somebody’s son or daughter you’re insulting over a video game…

Latency is going to be a problem no matter what aspect of the game we play. I deal with “skill-lag” in WvW during massive battles. Should they cancel WvW until they fix it? No. I have the option of leaving whenever I please, and I know the lag is not permanent.

When I beat Liadri, it was on the first day when there was skill lag occurring every time one of the Crown Pavilion bosses spawned. I had to simply not queue until they were dead, or I would be unable to dodge the AoE. Things are much better these days, especially when your map is not capped out. If this was your experience, I suggest trying again.

Best of luck.

For those of you that have taken a break from the fight, I understand. Enjoy the rest of the game but please don’t throw away the Queen’s Gauntlet Tickets you will be acquiring. After you feel less frustrated and are armed again, just give it another shot. Here’s some advice I have:

  • The Arenas Are Not Equal: Some Arenas are easier to fight Liadri in than others. The Asura Arena is by far the easiest one, and the Norn Arena is the worst. (The 2nd Radiant Hope spawns against the wall there)
  • Don’t Use Immobilize: Not only Liadri immune to Immobilize, but it actually is bugged. It removed a Condition from Liadri if you try to Immobilize her.
  • Use Everything! If you feel like a kill is close, you can use a Strength Booster, Speed Booster and Armor Booster if you have any lying around. Also, WvW bonuses apply to the Crown Pavellion (if you are not in Overflow) so keep that in mind. The extra Healing/Damage Reduction and Health can make a big difference when learning. You’ll get more bonuses the later into the week it is. Also, while most Consumable bundles are stripped, Embers and Ogre Pet Whistle still work. (Although they die instantly to the AoE so use them wisely)

I have seen a large variety of Professions and builds beat her. The ones I have seen struggle are Cleric-based builds and Staff Elementalist. While it is possible to beat her with sub-optimal specs, it’s much more difficult. If you feel like you are struggling, it might be your build holding you back for this fight; a simple switch in just weapon and traits might be all the difference you need to make the fight feel very easy. (You might not need full Armor/Runes/Accessories changes)

Good luck, and don’t give up!

It’s selfish to exclude people from consideration who do have issues merely because you don’t have them.

Do you know what’s selfish? It’s when players who seek challenge are given 1 boss, and 2 Achievements, and then someone says: “This is an outrage! Take this away from them!”

The Bosses spam skills, with no cooldown.

  • The bosses have an arsenol of skills like the players. Most have recharges, but some skills do not like auto-attack.

They are immune to cc,

  • The bosses are not immune to any CC except Immobilize. You can do everything else to the bosses including Daze, Cripple, Chill, Stun, Launch, etc.

and take only a percentage of the damage done to them.

  • This is simply not true.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but you should probably be more honest about your experience with the fights since you have obviously not participated in them.

Currently, abusing the Shank Anchorage event generates 8g+/hr. That’s more than CoF1 and much more accessible. But wait, just nerf Shank Anchorage? That’s the problem with champion bags, this can be done anywhere. There will always be a next best zerg spot.

If that’s the best case scenario, I wouldn’t worry about it since the Cauldrons always die.

You needed 50 kills for a gold reward for it. Nobody completed that.
That means it is too hard. Simple.

50 kills did not give gold. Just like in Tier III, it gave Silver because it was bugged.

It did give the final loot bag, but it had nothing to do with it being a Bronze/Silver or Gold Reward. It just was based off of kills.

The strategy was simply standing in the back and killing the Plunderers, Mortars and Grenadiers that spawned. The quicker you killed the Mortars and Grenadiers, the quicker they respawned. In addition, you could safely pull as few of the Veteran Aetherblades from their big pile in the middle as needed to reach 50 kills.

Doing it the “legit” way did not matter because you could exploit it far easier. It also was not more rewarding than doing previous Tiers because of how much longer it took to accomplish.

I believe nobody killed over 50 enemies in tier 4 candidate trials.
Now that content was seriously too hard.

It was not “too hard.” It was completely and utterly unrewarding and full of exploits though. Why would anyone bother putting effort into something like that?

It would be the equivalent of trying to craft an Exotic-quality item only to receive a white.

Oh look! Another post essentially saying this: “Adding 1 Boss and 2 Achievements associated with it is unreasonable. Remove them all, and make sure to never again add any like it to begin with.”

In GW2, there are players who have a good understanding of their Profession. Once someone reaches this level, the simplicity of PvE becomes transparent and there is little to nothing left to challenge them except optimizing dungeons for speed-running. For these players, there is no “end game”; there’s nothing.

Queen’s Gauntlet provided a glimpse into content for these people to defeat, and others inspire them to improve themselves and overcome it.

It’s one boss and two achievements. This is too much? This is the epitome of self-centered. In PvE, I couldn’t even begin to list the amount of content that is made for “everyone” because it’s basically “everything”; but as for the content designed for those who seek challenge, you can count it on one hand.

Yeah. Crown Pavilion is a grim sign of whats to come, but at least it’s temporary. Champion bags print money and are here to stay. The people that haven’t already moved to Frostgorge or Orr will migrate to champion loops after Queen’s Jubilee ends. That’s also why nerfing each popular champion loop is not a solution on its own. There’s always a next in line.

Currently, inflation is inevitable. Champion bags dropping rare exotics, mats, and karma is fine. Until the salvage patch, blue and green item and gold drop rates need to be heavily nerfed. Just put a couple gold on the daily achievement reward to compensate the average player.

You could not be more wrong. Champion Loot does not primarily create coin; it creates items.

For example: If your friend found a valuable skin like Genesis and sold it on the Trading Post for 200g, it might seem like it produced money; it didn’t. It moved Gold from the buyer to the seller, but it also destroyed some of that gold from the Economy due to the 15% Trading Post cut. You say Inflation is inevitable, yet Lodestones are dropping in price because the supply of items is increasing.

Producing more items = Increases supply, destroys gold, and prevents inflation.
Producing more gold = Increases prices, makes supply more competitive.

But wait, I am vendoring these Greens and Blues for sweet, sweet coin?

For now. Take a look at Colin Johanson’s post about the 2nd Half of 2013

Salvaging Fine and Masterwork Items
Otherwise known as blues and greens, we want to give more reason to care about these item types when they drop. When the account magic find system is implemented, there will be a chance you can acquire account magic find consumables from salvaging both fine and masterwork items.

Producing more items is not a bad thing. Good riddance to CoF Path 1 gold printing machines.

You don’t need to rely on luck.

When a Cosmic Rift spawns too far from you, you can time your Dodge and simply Evade its pull. Stability also works! Good luck!

You don’t read, do you? There’s a huge difference there. While those modes have their problems, they aren’t cheap one hit kill gimmicky invulnerability nearly all the time like Liadri.

If I said, “the entire Queen’s Gauntlet needs to be thrown away”, then your comparison to WvW and PvP might work. But it doesn’t, because I specified that particular boss, and gave reasons why.

I guess asking for more garbage bosses like that would be self-centered too, eh?

I read just fine. You want to remove a single boss and two Achievements which are praised and enjoyed by the community. The reason? You don’t enjoy it. And it’s optional. Don’t try to sugar-coat your agenda.

The fight is not perfect as it has various bugs and issues. To say it is “designed poorly” is wrong though and insulting, and shows a lack of understanding and appreciation of the boss’ actual design. Almost every element is not random.

Why in the world would they do that o.O

It’s Anet, nuff said. Meaning they didn’t test it properly or didn’t think it all the way out.

The Revealed debuff is caused by Master Gunner Adil. It says so on the buff itself. I goes away the instant you kill Adil as well.

It’s a question of whose aptitude? Do you design content so that the majority of players find it really hard or so that only a few can complete it? Who are you designing for? Not passing judgement. Just want to know.

And like I said, this challenge is limited not just by aptitude but by how much gold you can pay out.

So, why is it acceptable to exclude one group (people who seek challenge) but not another group (those who don’t)?

It’s optional and recurring content, a single boss, and two Achievements.

I suppose you want them to log on their account and play it too, eh?

With 1 month to do it, I think there are little excuses. If you want it, you can get it. There are so many options with WvW Badges, Karma, and Dungeon Tokens, in addition to the new means to acquire coin with the Champion Loot tables. Phase 1: Use Shortbow and use Cluster Bomb to kill the Cosmic Rifts. You might need to Dodge if your projectile is going to hit it too late. On the third Orb of Light, use Shadow Refuge for throwing it and start dealing damage with Caltrops and your dodge Caltrops.

Phase 2: Headshot her whenever she charges. If she manages to Cripple, make sure you dodge right away to remove the Weakness/Cripple. Kite towards Radiant Hope fields and use Stealth whenever tossing an Orb of Light on her. Whenever you do Stealth also remember to use Sneak attack from your Pistol (#1). Eventually you’ll be ahead on damage so you can keep Shortbow out the rest of the time for the Cosmic Rifts and the extra Evasion.

General tips:

  • Turn Sound Up for Rifts! To get around the restrictive FoV of the arena’s dome, turn your sound up to listen to the distinct sound of the Chaos Rift spawning. As soon as you hear it, pan around until you find it. It respawns every 40s or so. On a side note, do not try to kill Rifts with projectiles until they fix the Obstructed! bug; it is unreliable.
  • Endurance! Maximize your Endurance regeneration for learning. High Precision builds with Vigor on Critical strike, or various skills and traits that increase Endurance regeneration will be life savers! Bowl of Orrian Truffle and Meat Stew is also really nice!
  • Lag Sucks! If you can help it, try to not fight Liadri when a big zerg is fighting the bosses down below. This slight delay has gotten me killed more than anything, especially when doing Light Up The Darkness.

Some tips for Phase 2 of the fight:

  • Run, don’t dodge! For Phase 2, try to move with the Shadowfall instead of panic dodging out of it if you can help it. Remember that every time Shadowfall lands, move immediately to where it will be clear. Saving your dodges to avoid Liadri’s Cripple and Weakness will help a lot! If you do panic dodge, remember the next Shadowfall will not be on your current position.
  • Closer to the Middle! The closer you kite to the middle, the easier it will be to simply walk out of her AoE. Once you get a good kite going, it will feel easier.

I love it, one shotting means you cant fail, and i love it that way (and that it happens often). Also she do normal atacks.

One shot also means your build is unimportant. Why run something like toughness/vitality/condition damage if you are going to die regardless? It’s all zerk or nothing (also there’s the timer, to screw condition specs even more).

It helps ease the pressure of the damage she deals in Phase 2. Unless you are very skilled at dodging, she will land some hits on you when she uses her charge and if you’re made of glass it will be much more punishing.

I was the Guardian in Pinch’s group. As some advice, I’d say: You don’t need Condition Removal. All the Conditions are completely avoidably if you bring:

  • 100% Projectile block/reflection (This stops the Confusion, Chill, Vulnerability)
  • Stand away from the Swashbucklers when they spin. (This prevents the Bleeding)

Two Guardians, or a Guardian and a Mesmer are pretty ideal for this. (Wall of Reflection, Shield of Absorption, Phantasmal Warden, Feedback, Temporal Curtain, etc.) This prevents much of the damage as well, stopping the Grenade damage from the Aetherblade Grenadiers.

The WvW bonuses make a difference as well, as they can provide up to 10% more health, damage reduction and increase in healing power. (Everyone heals since we all have a self heal; it matters)

Control, range, support, condition.

There’s a lot of reasons.

Defiant makes control near useless. Support is useful right now for harder content like high level Fractals of the Mists. Condition damage can be made useful by making creatures with high Toughness.
