The nerfs were not announced but all the regular Teq players noticed that the hp pool was reduced.

The fight was exactly the same as it was the first day it was released. The only thing that changed was the player’s perception of it being “impossible.” Awareness of the usefulness of Frost Bow, Fiery Greatsword, and Fire Elemental Powder became more common knowledge.

Teq which was much easier than this fight was nerfed both in overall hp and damage after 2 weeks, I was hoping this boss would receive a similar nerf as less people would be doing it now.

I don’t remember nerfs happening. Here are both update notes: September 17th and October 1st) The main changes done were to the loot.

But I fully agree that there are some issues with the head. But these issues do not mean its movement is fully random.

The Wurm is a creature, and like any creature is has an aggro table. It Chomps in the direction of its primary aggro.

That’s it.

The recent patch seems to have increased the recharge of Chomp, making its behavior way more consistent.

Considering the fact that the Cobalt Wurm head can move into the water and the Crimson Wurm head can completely leave its arena, this is not true.

I never said that leechers contributed to those kills, I’ve said "those ‘leecher guests’ " did. Bloodstealer was very specific on including all people from other servers in his use of the term “leecher”, hence my use of the quotation marks.

This is a problem with semantics. He’s not calling all guests leeches, but rather blaming their failure on guests who leech.

And if you think one or two people can’t make a difference, you clearly haven’t had a Guardian spamming symbols on your raid when you’re trying to Might stack, or blast Water. The issue is also not “a few people”; it’s impossible to get more than 45 per stack on Blackgate main for instance because there’s at least 20 people perpetually AFK to retain their spots. Then there’s the Achievement hunters who will only do what benefits them. (Running kegs, going to the first Wurm that dies, etc.) Finally, you can have actual trolls who get a kick out of the ability to be malicious with no consequences.

Edit: I do want to add though that redesigning some Achievements would make the Jungle Wurm a much more pleasant experience for all. For instance, the number of explosive barrels should be reduced to something small, like 2-5. The Decapitator and Wurmslayer achievements should give players credit for the efforts of their allies.

Keep telling yourself that. There were “leecher guests” around the first and the second time the worm has been killed on Deso. I dare say Deso wouldn’t stand a chance without those “leecher guests.”, because they’re the ones who are actually willing to gear up for the encounter and take all means neccesary for killing the three-headed beast. On the other hand, there was least one failed attempt on Deso yesterday, because a Deso commander (I’m not gonna call names here) was afking on the map with his commander tag still on.
I’m not gonna lie, the organization on Deso is top notch most of the time and I love how it takes my game to the next level, but there’s no way you’d be able to do all that without ambitious players from other servers. Because the truth is, if you’re guesting, it’s because you actually want to get the event done. if you just want to leech, you’re going to do that on your own server.

The servers like Desolation are very considerate and grateful to the PUGs that are willing to listen and work together for the kill. Some acknowledge that “Server first!” is very tongue in cheek because it was a joint effort.

No, the players that are true leeches (who can be native to Desolation) are those that do things like taking the waypoint to a different Wurm because they see it’s lower in health than the other two. “I need my decapitation achievement!” is the mentality, ensuring getting to phase 2 is unlikely and killing it impossible because 15-20 people have abandoned their posts. These same kinds of people will abandon their phase 1 posts to scurry on over to a Wurm head they lack in phase 2 to for their “Wurmslayer” achievement.

So when you say these leechers contributes to Desolation’s kill, you’re flat out wrong; they didn’t.

Yes, the head turns to a player and charges at them with Chomp. We had someone notice they had aggro and they managed to steer the head. It might be possible to lure it somewhere consistently and get it stuck on something like one of the Crimson extractors, but you might end up wasting a lot of time with re-positioning.

The problem is is that the results can swing wildly. I’ve had some runs where the Wurm head keeps Chomping into a wall, and it dies with 30 seconds to spare. The very next run it can chain Chomp, gaining distance every time and outmaneuvering our raid, with out timer running out with the head at 30%.

Ironically, slaying the boss is not required for any of the achievements even though it is quite challenging.

First of all, Wurmslayer (killing all 3 heads) can be counter-productive towards victory. I’ve seen some runs ruined simply because groups of players wanted their achievement for the other head. Thus, once they were done with Phase 1, they’d run over to whatever head they needed for Phase 2.

Achievements should never conflict with victory, otherwise there will be unnecessary tension between wanting to progress their characters versus actually beat the fight.

Ascalonian Catacombs was the first instance to be updated in the so-called “Phase 2” of the dungeon revamp one year ago. Phase 1 removed “res-rushing” from all dungeons, and also resulted in massive nerfs to most of the story and explorable mode encounters. “Phase 2” was to rebalance everything once the dust settled.

The Dungeon Team was dissolved some time shortly after AC was released. (We aren’t certain when for sure) This was likely done to put more teams behind their Living World updates instead. It’s safe to say Phase 2 ended with AC and also explains why the other dungeons have only received minor tweaks.

Nokaru.7831

The real issue with Agony is not the damage or the Agony Resistance; it’s the path towards acquiring the AR. In most MMOs, if there is a gear requirement for progression, the way you obtain said gear requirement is to climb the lower rungs of the progression path until you are geared enough. In Fractals of the Mists, the path towards this gear leads you out of Fractals of the Mists. (Dailies, Crafting, Guild Missions, etc.) Worse yet, it can be fast-tracked by buying the agony infusions with gold. How is this progression when someone can just throw money at something and obtain the skeleton key to “endgame”?

What a joke.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Generally speaking, endgame in other MMOs is highly rewarding and challenging content; endgame is something to do once you master your profession/build and there has been very little to scratch this itch in PvE. This is quite puzzling for as the combat is fairly enjoyable.

Handicapping oneself for a challnge or being sub-optimal does not count because endgame is something to do once you master your build.

Nokaru.7831

Depends what you call an exploit. Before January, it was completely possible to go to 80 without exploiting.

That’s a good laugh. It was always an exploit to get to 80. This is my opinion though based on the following facts:

How Jade Maw Works:

  • At Difficulty Scale 50+, the Jade Maw’s Agony does 1172% of the player’s health. (You need 950+ AR to survive) There’s no way to avoid or mitigate this damage; everything was tried
  • Difficulty Scale 2-48 Jade Maw and below functions slightly differently than Difficulty Scale 50+.
    • 2-48 Maw will apply Agony is only applied to a player once they step past the trigger point. (Jumping from the rock) If you manage to survive this, or if you are revived by those that did, it does not re-apply.
    • 50+ Maw’s agony applies again if a player is revived within the trigger area; using a Revive Orb is a waste of time because it kills you again straight away.
  • It was not always like this though. 50+ Jade Maw used to function like 1-48 does now. Thus, players made strategies based around having at least one person surviving and then reviving the rest of their party.

The Strategies to Beat 50+

  • At first you could simply die on the edge of the floating rock leading to the Jade Maw. This was barely on the trigger area of Agony, so you could inch over and die within revive range. The party could easily get their teammate back up who then revived the rest of them.
  • This rock was moved so that this was no longer possible. However, players found out they could still revive the defeated player from afar using Search and Rescue from a Ranger. They also could have the defeated player pop a Revive Orb and then revive the rest of their party.
  • It’s also worth mentioning that a Guardian casting Binding Blade on the Jade Maw’s tentacles yielded 6-10 Reflecting Crystals depending on when it was cast. This allowed players to kill the Jade Maw in “phase 2” and skipping its second Agony. This made the Revive Orb strategy a lot less expensive.
  • The final change to 50+ Agony was that you (presumably) must survive it, as it re-applies. It’s hard to tell though since it’s impossible to survive it. (You need 950+ Agony Resistance in order to do so) However, players could grind their way to 80 by being “boosted” by someone who already has level 80. (Someone level 80 could start a Difficulty Scale 51 and completing it would boost a player with Difficulty Scale 50 to 51, thus skipping the Jade Maw entirely. Repeat this process 28 more times and presto, you’re level 80)

Was it an exploit? Probably. However, since ArenaNet intentionally tried (and failed) to make it impossible to progress past 50, it was fair game.

The first wave that reached level 80 should have the title, “Saved By The Rock”.
The next wave will be, “Carried by Search and Rescue”.
Next will be, “At Least There’s Revive Orbs”.
The last wave of titles will be, “Boosted All The Way to 80”.

If you don’t know what any of this mean, then you probably don’t know the history of how players bypassed the Maw’s 1172% Agony.

Fine? We only really got through one fight, and that was by ‘stacking’ which seems to be somewhat controversial.

The Spider Queen’s AoE has a minimum range, so stacking on top of her makes her not fire it off. It’s not our fault the designers made it work this way. Some “exploits” are just players knowing how the game works.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Here’s what’s funny about Ascended Gear: Builds are heavily influenced by your gear in GW2. (As opposed to GW1… Funny huh?) Crafting an Ascended Weapon (and Coming Soon! Ascended Armor!) commits yourself to one build.

Did I mention Ascended Gear is useless? The stat increase is not useful anywhere, except to defeat content that does not require it. Gear in PvE is only as valuable as it is useful.

Finally, the way they handled Agony Resistence is ridiculous. It was meant to be a form of progression for Fractals of the Mists, but now you can attain more Resistance via Guild Missions and now Ascended Crafting. How does it make any sense that players progress through Fractals of the Mist by not doing Fractals? It is completely dysfunctional progression.
