Limiting yourself to not having the option of a ranged weapon isn’t generally a good idea. While it is a very poor weapon compared to your melee options, your Scepter is sometimes a better choice on the higher difficulties (20+)

That being said though, your group was foolish for kicking you. Guardians are incredibly useful in Fractals (invaluable at higher levels), with their ability to provide support even as a damage-oriented build.

There is a noticeable difference in the loot. I have found Difficulty Level 10 rewards much better loot (Rares/Exotics) than 20+, or even 30+.

Keeps and towers were designed to be successfully held by smaller forces.

The issue with turtling wasn’t ever about stupid people turtling, as I see many people saying things like “it’s easy to counter stupid people turtling”. Sure, stupid people stacking together is a good way to kill lots of stupid people. Some people actually understood the “technique” however. Perma-stability, retaliation, 25 stacks of might for everyone, 20+ people shouting heals for 30k+ per second healing for everyone, enough people to insta-rez anyone who actually drops…… The was NO counter for turtling done “right”.

Thanks Anet for fixing this exploit.

Don’t forget almost 100% up-time on Projectile Reflection/Deflection.

Healing abilities were meant to be a bonus to help your team. If you are finding that people are dying, don’t blame the fix to AoE healing, but rather blame your teammates for poor survival skills. You can avoid most damage by moving and you have an Endurance bar which gives you the ability to Dodge (immune to damage). Every Profession can equip defensive abilities which can make you immune, block, stealth, etc.

The limitless healing was being mostly abused by the players employing the “Turtle” tactic. It’s fairly obvious to anyone that has played with it or against it that it is not a style of play that fits GW2 at all. (Stand there and heal through all the damage) This fix should come as no surprise to anyone.

The amount being healed has not been reduced, but rather only the number of targets. Instead of complaining about this fix, ask what can be done to improve it? What makes the AoE healing abilities annoying or frustrating to use in WvW? If ArenaNet improved on the targeting features, would it help?

Again, if a zone is controlled by alot of seige wepons it won’t matter where you place anything, you will be ethier treb’d, carted, ballisted or zerged.

If your zerg cannot turtle up a bottle neck which in most cases is almost every keeps design, how are you suppose to counter that?

You can’t, stop pretending there is some magical location to set up seige weapons that turn a fight, because there is locations in keeps that Seige weapons cannot access from outside, but can be controlled fortified near on invinciable on the inside.

Saying give up and go to another area is out of the question if there is only 1 or 2 areas left which may very well be a keep is not an option.

I see this becoming a serious issue when it could only take 6 – 7 people to lock down a zerg of 50 people into a bottleneck.

An enemy Trebuchet takes time to turn. You can spike build one from a location it isn’t facing and kill it very quickly. A Trebuchet hits enemy siege for 18,000, so it takes only four shots if you have a skilled driver on it. Once you destroy their Trebuchet, it’s just a matter of picking off their siege inside.

Your enemies spent money and supply to set up siege in their Keep. Why shouldn’t you? Correct me if I’m wrong, but a Keep (or Tower) is supposed to offer advantages over defending from it.

And stop complaining about choke points. You also have a large arsenal of abilities at your disposal to move through them. Players can go Immune, Block, reduce damage via Boons, Teleport, Portal, Stealth, etc. You have an Endurance resource which allows you to Dodge, which is even more immunity.

Sorry, but you have to win with more than just spamming, “FOR GREAT SHAKE IT ON MY MARK!!!” I know, it’s crazy right?

Every siege weapon has a counter, no matter where it is placed. If your enemy placed siege in a strategic location, so you’re supposed to either go to a more vulnerable area or figure out how to counter it.

Maybe you forgot you have Arrow Carts, Ballista, Catapults and Trebuchet at your disposal. Turtles didn’t need to do that after all; they just auto-attacked gates and won.

That healing was sometimes required due to the amount of seige weapons that plastered you.

Now, this removes all hope if trying to turtle your way up a corridor, bridge or bottle neck area where seige weapons are smashing you down.

You know what you do about siege weapons? You either avoid them or destroy them. You don’t heal through them.

Sorry for not having any sympathy with this nerf, but limitless healing was being abused on a ridiculous scale. Maybe now you will remember the sting of Arrow Carts barrages again instead of yelling “FOR GREAT SHAKE IT ON MY MARK” and auto-attacking gates down.

For the mis/uninformed: Hitting a Guard will not contest a waypoint. I suggest you watch your Gates better if one person is trying to slow down your mobility.

If I wanted to play a 5 player game, I would do nothing but dungeon runs.

Slowly but surely, WvW is getting effected by these changes.

Yeah well, my AoE only hits 5 players per hit in a Turtle, while their Warriors were healing everyone for 1500+. This change was needed.

Blame the Turtles. Let’s see how strong their shell is now without their healing abuse.

Since all other Phantasm (Illusionary Warden, Warlock, Swordsmen, Duelist and Mage) are subject to line-of-sight checks, it is safe to assume the Illusionary Berserker is bugged. Mesmers are using their Berserkers to kill things inside towers and keeps, not just on top of them. Ridiculous.

No, the Golem is just a siege weapon which transforms a user. Without a pilot, it does nothing. It also will rot after thirty minutes of non-use.

The turtle was made to break the zergs.

Turtles were developed by zergs, actually. They originated in EU realms by guilds designing a tactic to make them immune to zerg-bombing smaller groups. (20 people can kill a group of 40, but not if they Turtle)

Yes, learning which abilities don’t have a target cap. Everyone knew about this months ago. The most common ones are using a “Shout Warrior” (Vigorous Shouts trait) for healing. Or using Guardian “Symbol Healing” (Writ of the Merciful trait).

Only a few damaging abilities bypass the 5-target cap, obscure things like Elementalist Glyph of Storms (Earth) or a Necromancer using Epidemic. Good luck with Conditions on a Turtle though, as they spam remove them.

You can easily get the name of the hacker by spamming abilities with auto-target. We’ve gotten multiple hacker names this way, but nothing is ever done.

If you don’t actually punish these people who have been repeatedly reported, you’re sending a message that it’s “OK” to hack.

Did you know: On the Red Borderlands is bugged, whereby the Altar of Power cannot be repaired, so the home-team hackers just noclip flyhacks through the ground and smash the Altars of Power in enemy keeps while they house an Orb of Power. Eventually, all Altars are destroyed and the Orb is defaulted to the Cradle of Power. This makes playing on the Red Borderlands completely pointless for most people.

Are there any actual reports of hackers getting their accounts terminated for using noclip flyhacks for Orbs of Power? I’m really curious. Members of the hacker communities and their friends are under the impression that they are untouchable. I’ve noticed the amount of hackers has been growing in frequency, especially on Tier 1.

It seems like economic exploitation is the only thing that is quickly addressed in this game in a timely manner.

It’s abusing the infinite target healing of Warrior shouts, an obvious bug. It would not work, or be much less effective, if this was fixed.

There are a few European guilds on Blackgate. In Europe, there is a tactic where they “Turtle”. A large group (40+) will group in one spot to reduce incoming AoE damage because AoE only hits 5 targets. It also exploits the fact that some heals (Warrior shouts, etc.) have no target cap, and you can spam dome-like reflect abilities (Sanctuary, Shield of Absorption, etc.) to protect your zerg. They usually move using Mesmer Portal. It is a common tactic in Europe and they are using it here because they transferred to Blackgate a few weeks ago.

Regardless of what new content you have planned ArenaNet, you have been incredibly sluggish in your response to widely reported and highly abused terrain exploits which are becoming more prevalent in WvW every passing day. In my opinion, this is completely unacceptable. You need to fix the exploits as quickly as possible, stomping them out as soon as you are made aware of them, otherwise the experience and integrity of WvW as a whole becomes exponentially worse.

As long as hackers and exploits exist in GW2, Portal will be abused by them and their team.

Everyone keeps saying that Mesmers were hidden without knowing what happened. I’ve been outsmarted by some clever Mesmers hiding, but lately Mesmers have been abusing exploits into the Borderlands map keeps.

This is just conjecture, but I’m pretty sure all siege lasts longer than 30-minutes except for Trebuchets, which still are on the 30-minute timer. I’ve seen Flame Rams last for days, and I highly doubt they are being vigilantly refreshed every half hour.

Actually, you’re both right. In sPvP, which is what your picture shows, you cannot cap a point while stealthed. Thus you are correct. In WvW, you can cap a point or stop an enemy capture while stealthed. Thus he is correct. There are different rules for different game modes.

We aren’t “both right”. This is the WvW forum, talking about an issue in WvW, and it’s painfully obvious to anyone who even bothered to watch the video, or played WvW for a reasonable amount of time knows that Stealth and Invisible players count towards capture points in WvW.

It’s bugged. It isn’t supposed to since it doesn’t in sPvP.

Check your facts next time please… (dot, dot, dot).

And for the record, this has worked this way since the Beta Weekend Events.

If I had an organized group of thieves, or any classes, I would do other things far more productive. In this case I would have taken a ram to the underwater gate and punch it open for easy access by all so that after we ‘ravage the place’ you would be forced to continue to defend two fronts or withdraw to inner.

There is no underwater gate to the West keep of the Borderlands; only walls.

There was so much bad in that video that I found it hard to even focus on what the thief was doing.

You say that, but there is no other profession that can just troll a large group of bad players toe to toe, exploiting their inexperience in WvW. Any other class which is in that situation would have to run (or die in <30 seconds); not a thief. They just abuse the fact that Stealth lingers for 1-2 seconds after it’s actually over.

I’m an Ele, and I have found Arrow carts and such I can’t hit, as well as I’ve found out places to place them where no one can hit.

All it takes for any siege you place is a bit of thought.

Actually I play an Elementalist too, and on most structures AoE can hit anything, especially Elementalists with Blasting Staff (Longbow Rangers can also hit everything). Only a few very specific locations have areas safe from infantry. This is not conjecture, it’s simple fact. The standard size of a wall is too small to keep it safe from AoE. Only the wider walls of some keep gates are big enough to protect them. Some examples are: The NE gate of Dreaming/Dreadfall/Ascension Bay keep, or the North gate of Etheron/Shadaran/Askalion Hills keep; the south gate is also good because of its high cliffs.

Any “standard” structure has no place to keep an Arrow Cart safe from harm from infantry. Compare the difference between Sunnhill tower and Cliffside.

They can’t stop AoE from going through the gate right now, but repair range should be increased slightly. There are some tricks you can do to Repair while under pressure. Experiment with your Profession!

Transfers are open until they get their Guest feature working.
