6k.. you talking about spvp or something. you know you are in the wvw forum, right? Where people run around with ascended gear, bloodlust stacks, food and what not.. if you hit for 6k in wvw you probably didnt crit xD

uhm, and you probably don’t play a thief, e.g. my thief has 2,85k power, 251% crit dmg and 100% crit rate on backstab
now what dmg does the backstab usually do…. 8k, 10 tops (very seldom, chances are higher to get struck by lightning) and more often than not it’s only 6-7k
hell i backstabbed a condi mesmer yesterday and did 2,7k dmg, wtf anet?

Yeah Anet, wtf, that thief only did what would be a sensible amount of damage with one of his skills for any other class. Quick, buff thiefs they might have to learn to play with sensible damage output like the rest of us- or heaven forbid, wear some armor!

I love the new grading structure, reminds me of Starbucks, where they have tall, grande and venti to avoid using the word ‘small’.

Having the lowest population showing as ‘medium’ is just marketing speak for ’ nearly dead’ on the wvw servers list, and a pure cash grab.

‘Medium’ should be classed as ‘available’ (to avoid the use of the word ‘empty’) and should be FREE to transfer to, then you can have medium, high, very high, full. The new classification will just lead to disappointment for a new player when they join a ‘medium’ server and discover this means 4 people running around in prime time pvd’ing. Will they pay more money to then transfer off? Nope, they will go find something else to play.

All feels like just another way to squeeze money out of the wvw population to me (cynic that I am).

It’s high time the lowest population servers were closed- this is what other games do when population drops. It’s sad that the half dozen players left there will lose their ‘server loyalty’ but it needs to be done now.

'Stress Test' Led by Streamers...

So the next advertising session will be led by streamers running out of ANet’s own offices…I guess that is so they minimise any potential lag issues, connection issues, skill lag, latency etc and try and make it look good whilst whispering in the streamers ears as to what to do, where to go, where the ‘fights’ are and what buffs each side will pick up to maximise the good looks of the ‘fights’.

Not exactly sure how this tests ‘stress’ on the servers when it’s clearly just one huge advertising pitch…

Any idea if they will actually do a proper test before launch or are we going to get thrown the new map and have to discover all the glitches, problems, cheats, holes, hacks, etc for ourselves after release?

I loved the comment about moa from stealth, coming from the cheese d/d ele that’s priceless- permanent 5-6 buffs including might, vigor, regen, blasts etc and you moan about one skill that lets you run away…

Never been a fan of the spam skills and blast twitch d/d ele style, but you play it well. Did that mes ever switch weapons? Or those other enemies?

I’m sure if I recorded every fight I have I could pick out some really good ones too- and some really bad.

Problem is, your video shows why d/d ele needs a nerf. Too much easy access to buffs and heals.

I wonder how the metrics count the alts and afk ‘players’ on our maps? Guess they count towards our total wvw players so I guess we’ll be ‘full’.

On the other hand, that should stop any more alt accounts parking their toons and reducing our actives…unless you can still select a ‘full’ server when starting a new account?

I don’t like the idea of charging for transfers but see the necessity to stop even more bandwaggoning to the few remaining busy servers. Maybe once they iron out the kinks in the news system they can refine it a bit better, and pay people gems to transfer OFF the full servers and down to lower tier servers, with the scale meeting somewhere in the middle.

Only trouble with that is that pve’rs would take advantage of it just to collect the gems, so maybe throw in a wvw hours played restriction on it too.

I put together a fix for a pretty nasty performance issue on our game servers. This should make it into our next release so I’d be curious to see if it makes a noticeable improvement. The bug looks like it was introduced around when this thread popped up.

I also got a couple client improvements that should help reduce framerate hitching with lower-mid range video cards and/or higher shader settings. Coming next release, too.

Only taken Anet 2 years to do this but better late than never I guess, Can’t wait to see SFR drop in rankings when they go up against server with the same population/coverage but with better players and commanders.

The initial population shift is gonna be awesome if extremely upsetting to the current population, god i hope this creates a more evenly spread community, we all know SFR has 2/3 times more than everyone and that population has to queue for hours to get onto any border on or around primetime.

I also hope they give people the option to not represent a server if they are solely PvE as choosing a server to PvE in is utterly redundant with the mega servers, this would free up spots to those who want to WvW only or WvW mostly, this would give each server a much better idea of the number of “Active” wvw players they have.

EDIT: I would also love to see a mass server rep reset when this system becomes active, on activation day when you login you are given a choice to stay with your current server or transfer to any other server for half price in the tier below yours. PvE players who log in will be able to for example rep a server as a PvE’r, maybe keep PvE rep population seperate from WvW population but you can’t rep piken in pve and deso in wvw for example, only the same server in both.

You need to relog that alt you keep logged in on SFR taking up a space more often. It’s been a long time since all 4 maps were q’d on SFR even on primetime, except on reset night.

There has been a huge exodus from SFR already, but we’ve also gained new players bandwaggoning from other servers.

I’ve checked several times over the last couple of months and Deso tends to have more and larger q’s through primetime than SFR does (this account resides on Deso, although has never actually entered WvW). SFR seems to have 2/3 times as many sitting around doing nothing on no name or no guild toons though…one time we had a 30 q for EB and when I got in there were 15 people following the comm fighting a 60 zerg from both sides whilst 20 people from various guilds/no guilds dotted around the map weren’t moving at all.

I wonder if Anet keeps server q stats and could publish EU averages per hour so we all know what’s what. Of course they won’t, because this might show 0 q too often for their marketing people to like it.

Mainly played GW. The real one. Having a blast with a good guild/alliance there and always plenty to do, including the dreaded pre toon:-)

Logged in to GW2 to get daily reward, farm a chest, and run around in a golem until my boredom level passed my tolerance level (generally 30 minutes in a golem is enough) and log off for the night. now struggling to motivate myself to log in to GW2 at all…

This change won’t really help lower tier servers – who’s going to transfer to a desert with 3 roamers on it, apart from maybe a guild that’s decided it wants to dominate a server rather than have even or outnumbered fights..

It doesn’t do anything to address any of the real issues on population imbalance or the lack of attention to wvw which has driven so many players away.

Ah thanks for the clarity Spyder -basically it’s a case of ‘we don’t care about you honest folks, we want to deny the few who might have got something cosmetic’ and until they can be bothered to do that (oops, I mean ‘devote the necessary time and resources’) we’re stuck not being able to access a function of the game.

So no change and no likely date for it to get back online, just more promises of ‘soon’.

Take the opportunity to close the bottom dozen ‘servers’ by offering them a choice of new homes in the next tiers up- that’s the fastest way to get more balance in the servers, as currently there are too many servers for a game mode that has been allowed to wither away for so long.

Whilst this minor change is welcome, a lot more actual work is required on wvw to make it an attractive game mode and to swing the participation numbers up.

Wow. This issue still isn’t fixed? This is getting embarrassing lol.

As someone who works as a systems analyst for a living, a broken app feature with no customer work around is normally usually classified as a high-ish priority change. If the implementing the change affects the scope of a project, generally the project board/stakeholders provide special approval to implement the change ASAP.

My recommendation to ANET would be for them to reassess how they’re approaching this bug/change. Either the project/change manager is prioritizing the wrong changes or not enough resources have been assigned to this one.

Or maybe, just maybe, an issue that in no way or form effect the playability of the game will not get high priority when they are preparing for a major release?

Sure if it had been a game-breaking (or even game-effecting) issue I would have agreed with you, but since it is not it really seems illogical for them to take away resources from more important places in order to rush out a fix.

Ah, you mean like the golem exploits and bugs and huge boosts on all toons that got reported all week, and totally ruined wvw? Yep, they sure jumped on that real fast…it’s pretty clear it’s all hands on the new release and everything else can go swing.

Makes me happy I didn’t prepay for whatever it is that they come up with (I’m not that gullible, I like to find out what’s being sold and WHEN before committing to a purchase).

And will people really accept a paragraph that potentially say: “We found an error with the solution so we had to go back to square one again, and currently don’t know when it will get fixed”? I find that highly unlikely.

Reporting stuff before there is something to actually report is usually rather pointless and just creates rage and anger.

Work in any company for a while, and try the ’we’ve got nothing so we won’t bother saying anything’ and see how long you have a job for.

They could release regular updates that would take all of 2 minutes to type out. Even something as simple as ’we’ve worked on 20,000 lines of code so far and haven’t found it, there are another 80,000 to review’ would go wonders towards keeping people updated.

Saying nothing just says ‘we don’t care’ loud and clear.

You can’t deny though that a majority of commenters on this forum really dislike it.

I think the event is boring since there is rarely any fights but you can’t say just use the forums and judge it on that seeing as there are tons of people running around in golems..

If the majority of people in wvw hated it you wouldn’t be seeing golems still running around. Now people can go on and say those are all PVE’ers running around in golems, and most may be, but if they are having fun I’m sure they will come back even after the event.

I’ve seen lots of new faces actually asking questions about what builds they should be running around with which makes me think they will be here after this event is over.

I didn’t say ‘use the forums to judge it’ , I said that a majority of posters seem to strongly dislike it.

And I completely disagree about the bringing in new people.
Most will probably either get bored or die very quickly in a normal WvW week if their only experience is running around in a golem k-train.

If you want to get new blood in you need to do something that enhances actual WvW (e.g. better rewards), not a gimmick week that totally perverts normal playing conditions.

Correct you didn’t say that but in a way you are using the forums. I bet the majority of people that liked this event haven’t even come here to post about it.

You can disagree all you want about getting new players but if you accept the new players and show them that you can have fun without golems they will stick around.

I seen several people say pve’ers are the ones running around in golems, which might be true, but let them pve’ers have fun and like I pointed out if you show them fun after the event I’m sure they will stick around.. If you keep looking at them as just “pve’ers” well they sure won’t want to stick around.

Also I don’t mean you as you personally. Just I read other forums as well and the amount of people poking fun at pve’ers isn’t going to keep those pve’ers in wvw.

Farmers dont stick around after the farm has ended. If its being played as if it is a farm then its very likely that is how it is perceived by those doing it.

Main reason it is a farm event is because many have chosen not to defend or upgrade.

It took us a few days of this event for people to get bored and go back to defending and upgrading. We got a wp in our keep after a few days into this event but once people saw that wp, we got one in our keep everyday so far. Maybe its cause the other servers have just given up but we still are at least trying to defend and upgrade our side.

Most would rather k-train during this event and tbh when there are no fights you either k-train or not play.

How exactly do you defend against 50 people all in omegas or with golem exploit buff on? The gate goes down in about 5 seconds (10 if it’s reinforced and they are lazy golems), then you’re defending against 50 supercharge peeps with what exactly? Entire server camps in garri all day waiting for the golem rush? Siege disablers might work for the first rush if they all bunch up, but after that they will use spaced rush to trigger and you’ll only get maybe 10 disabled.

I can only conclude that the servers you’re playing against are dead, or just all so bored they took the week off.

As for someone else’s comment on loot- how would you pay for upgrades, weapons, armor, runes, sigils, food etc if there was no loot in wvw? Do pve?

Lots of pretty animations to make it even more impossible to see anything or dodge enemy damage, what’s not to like? Lag- never mind, at least it’s pretty!

Can the overcharge be channeled whilst moving? Otherwise standing still for 3-5 seconds in any sort of pvp is usually termed ‘suicide’. Does the range even warrant it’s use?

I feel this has been designed by a dev who glanced into spvp and saw only d/d eles, without considering wvw or staff eles at all.

Can’t wait for some organised group feedback to see how it works in practice.

I work in customer service as well, and I personally do not think this is how you get things changed. You do get bad attention though. If someone demanded that people be fired simply because people didn’t like something the company put out, you and I would be out of jobs.

I will just have to respectfully agree to disagree.

People should pop over to the thread that they are looking at requesting thoughts on WvW events and put up some constructive feed back there.

Anet has shown us they don’t give two kittens about constructive criticism or discussing ideas. What they do respond to are the major kitten storms that threaten their bottom line. Look at the no white swords, the colored commander tags, and the expansion without a character slot fiascos.

If anet doesn’t want this kind of reaction then they need to show their player base that they want to communicate with us instead of ignoring us and disregarding us as the minority. Plenty of people warned them that this event was going to be a disaster, if they actually communicated with us we could have come up with suggestions on how to minimize the problems, such as confining the event to EotM and turning off glicko for the week.

Their worse reaction was when people bumped threads about stuff they promise for a year earlier, like the returned of the orbs. Then they were surprised about us telling them we were not happy that they didn’t implement the CDI ideas after all that time. So much good ideas were proposed and nothing got done beside the 3 tags colors.

Don’t get greedy. They are discussing about guild commander tags! If they implement this, it should be enough for another year with the new maps coming along.

Their metrics will show increased participation in wvw for the week and hence by their measurements it will be a success.

By the same use of metrics you can prove IS is a success, or that the majority of people think we should spend a lot more on X (as long as someone else is paying for it).

The trouble is, metrics only measure what you think you want to measure, not what the underlying situation actually is. From Anet’s viewpoint, wvw is ticking up. From actual player’s viewpoint, it’s a stale neglected environment that they just threw probably the worst event ever at (suggested by some fanboy streamer).

Anet and Greece seem to have a lot in common :-)

I am glad I preordered HOT, it will bring a new borderland for wvw as well and this is a game that brought us countless hours of fun while costing absolutely nothing after the buying costs. Not buying the expansion doesn’t improve anything, it makes it less likely that there will be any improvement, especially as they know what players preordered and what didn’t and thus know what players give them funds to improve and develop the game. If there are no wvw players buying the expansion, then why should they put funds back into there?
The golem week was something that seem to have been intended for bringing fun to wvw. It wasn’t successful, but it was an effort, and that is something. It is a lot of work to make such events, they aren’t made to ruin anything and I am sure they learned from it. I hope it’s fixing bugs faster and not never to try to adjust anything in wvw ever again…

Your blind faith is impressive. I’m selling a car that will do 500mpg, pre order now. Pretty sure you will order one- after all, you want to see it developed, give us the funds first.

Wvw players have been ignored for years- why would any but the most gullible want to give them cash before they have done anything to improve it?

1) You have an “extensive” history of purchasing gold from RMT
2) RMT will “harass” you with gold if you pay them
3) Yes, we are and have been sending out notifications of account action in regards to Botting / Hacking / RMT Purchases for months.
4) I would suggest not doing any more RMT transactions if you value your account

I’m assuming since you have come out in public and stated this that there is hard evidence (eg credit card receipts or something) that proves that the account was involved in all this. Otherwise this seems to be accusations in public that could be construed as deflammatory and lead to Court action to clear the OP’s name.

Of course, if the OP has been doing these things then he should be banned. Forever. Unless the RMT company is connected with the games company…

I wonder how much longer it will be until all those that pre paid for whatever it is they have bought realise there is no release date and Anet are happily sitting on all that money in the bank without having delivered anything nor given any timescale for doing so.

There’s a reason they add fluff to the packages- so you can’t claim your money back on the grounds that you received nothing, as you got the fluff and used it!

I’m sure they’ll deliver something eventually, but pre paying months in advance for something that you can get once it’s released (and probably cheaper 3 months after that) isn’t my idea of sensible.

It’s a fine example of why bookies continue to thrive: despite all evidence that gambling doesn’t pay, people still bet in the belief they will win, beating the odds.

Should you buy it OP? Not until you know what it is that is being offered, and have a date on which you might receive the goods you are handing over the money for.

I’m loving the one guy defending the event and saying we should try and defend and try and enjoy it- or even funnier, spend money upgrading stuff.

It’s pointless upgrading anything when sooner or later it will be flipped by 20+ duped omegas or a blob abusing the exploits.

It’s pointless trying to fight said blob, unless you like being a bag.

So what’s left? Either log off (pve isn’t really our thing) or k-train and at least collect some loot while travelling around in circles. It’s marginally less boring than doing SW- at least in wvw every now and then you run across a blob and collect bags in a battle where damage figures are stupidly high.

Wvw players didn’t ask for this event, and all it demonstrates to the wvw regulars is Anet’s sad disregard for the game mode and it’s players after years of neglet.

In gw2 I do 2 things- log my alts sitting at a silver doubloon chest and play wvw. Nothing else interests me- tried the failed e-sport spvp but was too restricted and too cheesey for my liking.

But I don’t only wvw- I play a very different game too, called Guild Wars (you know, the one with…wait for it…guild wars in it).

I managed to stay ingame for almost an hour in wvw yesterday.

All towers, keeps, garris, etc are paper- there isn’t any point in upgrading.

It’s just a karma train – golem vs golem is a non-event if you throw a couple siege disablers around.

It’s boring. There is zero reason to defend anything- gates melt in 5 seconds.

Sure, it’s fun- if your idea of fun is mindlessly spamming 1 (oh wait, guards and warriors are used to that) without even bothering to blast anything or shouts, attacking doors and accumulating karma and wvw points.

I prefer my games to require some thought processes and a wide variety of skills and counters…

The ‘no rally’ crowd must be the same ones that play guard and warrior and endlessly spam 1 while blasting fields and pumping out boons, but can’t be bothered to turn around and finish off the downed players, then cry when they rally.

Maybe we should have a ‘light armor’ week and see how many of them are still asking for a ‘no rally’ week after they experience life as a caster. By ‘light armor’ I mean that they get their armor nerfed down to light armor levels, so they can carry on playing their guard or warrior….

‘No rally’ is an awful idea for the squishier classes, but great for the mindless zerg, so it’s not surprising it keeps coming up.

Guild groups complaining about rallying need to learn to assign players to stomp or finish off the downed instead of assuming it’s some one else’s job.

Owh, just reported someone via the report exploit email, I had thought that it was still new because there was no patch yet. If they haven’t taken action even after 4 hours… well…

4 hours? more like 4 years…

BTW, ice bow makes pretty good damage from an omega- not tried it or ele fire sword but will give it a go in a bit.

Hilarious that once again no testing, no bug fixes and a complete disaster of an event- at least they are consistent!

It’s more trouble than it’s worth to sweep for these mesmers who are usually with a thief so the actual revealed time is close to zero- who wants to spend 5-10 minutes chasing these people around for nothing?

Hence why people just don’t bother any more- flip it back if you want, we’ll be along for our turn on the karma train soon enough.

Until they make defence and defending meaningful (and gates that don’t melt before you can move to defend- or better yet, be able to see the enemy’s movements) people aren’t going to care.

Make all skills aoe skills for the week, whilst stopping passive regen on warriors and guardians, so they feel what retal is like (we could call it ‘no spam 1 week’).

Make armor mean something week- quadruple armor affects on light and medium armor players.

Noob week- only players under 1500 ranks are allowed to enter wvw.

Clear out week- standing still on the map removes you from the map, which would remove the 20-30 statues existing on SFR most of the time (not counting guild groups waiting to form- maybe they could run in circles or, heaven forbid, flip a camp if it’s not too hard for them whilst waiting to start a raid).

The Waypoints need to be changed on this map.

Did they address the fundamental design flaw that is gates that melt way too quickly for any response to reach the towers before they flip?

Even with suckers, oops I mean scouts, standing in a keep it’s almost impossible to defend before it’s capped, and that’s with a waypoint as the 3 minute timer means no one will reach it in time anyway.

Making it worse won’t be anything but promote more karma training and less defending, especially if there are no rewards for defenders.

It’s no worse than the 20 or so that park up around our maps and don’t do anything other than take up a spot so when zergs clash they have a 20 man advantage..

Not having played a rev yet, can you tell us Chobits using that spec was it performing better than an ele in the same role?

I’m just trying to work out whether there is any sort of role (other than walking loot bag for anything other than your spec) that rev will be able to fill better than existing classes- and given that most players want to tag as many enemies as possible and will therefore try and be zerk and frontline…

Most players still don’t know those basics Jana- watch most weekend pug zergs and watch them throw down piles of siege randomly at a gate, then jump on without masteries, run from the enemy, watch from walls while siege destroys said wall without even thinking of jumping off and suiciding the siege to damage it, etc etc.

Sadly it seems a lot of the wvw vets have given up and left, and what we’re left with is bandwagonners that jumped on and now seemingly run around in circles afraid to have their toon touched or heaven forbid get killed…

Nothing wrong with reflect- and that’s coming from someone who mains ranger a lot of the time.

It’s retaliation that can really hurt, due to the difference between damage caused and damage retal’d back to you, usually seconds after you fire off a barrage or proc on your aoe or use piercing.

No trait reset is bogus.

To the OP I’ll say this: PM all these nice people above and ask them to run you through a few dungeons so that you can level up enough to get the points to unlock the trait line you actually wanted, rather than the one Anet’s wonderful new ‘play the way our random selector’ chose for you.

You’ll be 80 in no time and they will all feel good about themselves for helping out someone who was caught out by the new system.

A guildie of mine had the best “special event” for wvw… it was called “fix wvw”

Tell him to open the windows and smoke less of the funny stuff, he’s obviously had too much if he imagined anything as far fetched as that one…

I’ll bet the skill-less germans would love this. They use sieges like there is no tomorow. :P

Could melt them with an organized condi focused force i think.

I would think SFR would actually be throwing confetti. Last time we faced them, they used no fewer than 250 golems in a week. Omegas mostly, too.

We apologise, but our main golems guys were off that week, usually it’s over 1000…

No entry to wvw week- players will not be able to enter wvw, and the results will be determined solly by the npc’s.

No fighting in wvw week- players will have to persuade the enemy to abandon the tower in order to capture it.

Infinite range superior siege week- you can now damage anything on the map using superior siege.

Double range and damage siege week.

invulnerable siege week

pve week (oh wait, that’s permanent pve in the new bl map middle area event anyway), result is determined by killing trash mobs.

Learn about wvw week- anet will introduce it’s staff and game designers to wvw so they stop coming up with terrible event ideas.

No (insert class ) week- each week a different class is barred from entering wvw(imagine the qq from the staff spam 1 brigade).

Upscaled weekend event for HoT pre purchasers (oh wait, that’s this coming weekend).

Reward track week-wvw players will actually get a decent reward track equivalent to spvp (but only for a week, wouldn’t want players enjoying wvw and detracting from the blessed spvp ‘e-sport’ numbers).

Remove forum mod week- for a week mods stop deleting, giving infractions or banning people from the wvw forums and we see what people really think without fear of the banhammer.

Cheat week. Pick a hack or cheat or exploit from the siege guy and use it in wvw.

Then take a week off? Or better yet take a week off from ppt and give wvw’s gvg / 1v1 seen a shot.

gvg’s will be off for the week- people will troll them with golems. People line up to wtach in their golems, half way through suddenly and omega fires off at a bad time for one side and boom , gvg result broken.

It’s going to be a karma train, at best. At worst, some more of the few remaining veterans will decide to find some other game to play.

And don’t forget the revenant weekend this weekend, where pre purchasers can roll a revenant and play in wvw (I wonder how many upscaled revs will be ruining wvw that weekend..)

Best joke Anet have come up with in a long time.

Players will use up their useless badges buying a shed load of golems, and making omega blueprints. Shortly after this event it will be announced that badges will actually be useful for something else..

So during that week it will basically be ‘rich vs poor’ with the rich running around in omegas and the poor in normal ones- when your golem dies, respawn and grab another one until you run out of badges.

Pointless trying to defend anything at all- 80 omegas will literally one shot a fully upgraded door. May as well play merry go round like EoTM and just k-train for the week.

Anyone trying to actually play wvw on anything other than a golem will just be a waste of space.

I wonder how many siege disablers are required to stop an 80 omega rush- could be funny watching two golem zergs rushing towards each other, then they are disabled and they just stand there looking at each other with red faces…

I wonder if they have considered the siege cap when coming up with this particular ‘event (farce)’.

This has got to be a very late April fool’s joke or Anet really don’t like wvw’rs and want to remove them from the game so wvw is purely for random casuals to k-train in.
