First off, yeah I know I could ask in the Necro-sub, but I guess I don’t “trust” those guys over there as much.
So I’ve been wondering how necro builds are going to look like once HoT is out; since I didn’t get to test Reaper, I’m not entirely sure what works best.
I did hear from multiple people that Reaper’s Shroud hits the hardest out of everything, so with that in mind, this is what I came up with as base build. Unyielding Blast could be replaced by Speed of Shadows, Spectral Mastery by Vital Persistence and Dhuumfire by Death Perception, though that seems unnecessary with Decimate Defenses being a thing. I guess you could do that if you pug and your vuln on bosses sucks really, really hard and then get one of the other choices? Though they both seem rather underwhelming.
In high level fractals I’d probably drop Soul Reaping for Blood Magic if necessary, as the sustain helps a lot.
What I’d like to know now, is the Reaper Shroud really the best damage source? If not, what then? I mean Gravedigger obviously wins if you get to spam it, but you won’t be able to do it all the time, at least if the skill roots you. And even then, you have to get the boss down to 50% first; what AA would be best to spam once your skills are on cd? Dagger, GS or Shroud?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. o/
Fractal leaderboard delay is unacceptable, sorry.
This was supposed to launch Nov 2013, it’s going to be almost Nov 2015 and we still don’t have them, they were supposed to come with HoT launch and they’re still delayed + on top of that, they’re part of the legendary backpiece requirement?
I welcome the fact that you tone down effects though. As for guild missions, as I barely ever had a guild I never did them, so I can’t say much in that regard. Sounds nice, I guess? As someone with astigmatism, I can’t see how people mix up Ele + Engi icons either, but since there clearly were issues for people that’s a good change, too.

Yay for better combat visibility and engineer icon change.
Fractal Dungeon Leaderboards
Back when we announced all the updates to Fractals for Heart of Thorns – the announce blog also discussed more information coming before HoT about leaderboards for Fractals. Our team of folks working on Fractal dungeons kept iterating on this concept and ultimately we have decided to make it something more involved (re: exciting) than our original plans which will extend our development a bit more. This also means you’ll be able to earn the new fractal backpack precursor, but a few of the components for the new legendary will come with this expanded future fractals feature.
As always, we’ll discuss features once they’re far enough along to share development details on; our Fractal Dungeon team will be back with more updates about this and other plans for Fractal Dungeons in the future: when it’s ready™.
Unfortunate. Nice if they’ll be better than what was originally planned, but we don’t know any details. And it looks like we can’t complete the fractals legendary backpack until the future update.
Oh, I wouldn’t have expected such a thing at all. They had over two years for this.
Combat visibility is nice though, can’t say much about the guild missions since I’m living the guildless life for years (rip) and I’m not sure how you can mix up the engi and the ele-icon, but if there were issues, then that’s nice too.

It can help in the Aetherblade Hideout Fractal when fighting the golems at the end, I guess.
There’s a bunch of those moments where unblockables are quite helpful, sadly I don’t remember most of them right now. Still highly situational.
Make an istanced hard raid content doesent mean you have to stay 8 hours inside every day, this is your opinion not the truth, if you want it go play wow.
I cant understand how you can say your idea isnt selfish if deny to alot of player to enjoy contents, the limit should also be about “be a good player” not about “if you have no life you can play it” there is alot of korean game with this philosophy, quit gw2 and enjoy them. This game lack of content but some players lack about “real life” and altruism, if you wanna deny players to play it because you have alot of time there is no other word than egoism, that s it, you should like it or not but this is the fact.
No one says you’ll have to stay 8 hours in there every day. Again: They’re split into multiple wings and you get rewards from each boss once a week. That’s plenty of time. Also, we don’t even know how long they’re going to be. Maybe they’re just a hour to 90min per wing.
Dedicating 2-3 hours on 3 days a week (Which can very well be Fri, Sat, Sun) to something you enjoy isn’t “having no life” either.
yadda yadda
Short raids would be… silly, tbh. If you’re aware of not having time during the work-week, do your raiding on the weekend. If you can’t do that either, well, that’s sadly bad luck.
Raids are meant for players who can put time and effort into them, so I fail to see the issue there.
Clearly, there is enough different content for you too, even if you don’t have the time for raids; “just go for the new event maps, masterys, new legendary, fractals etc etc” as you say.Lol you are so funny
With my suggestion everyone have a chance to play, with your selfish one, you exlude alot of playersGG
So anet should work alot only for few kids who have all the day.. Thats silly!!!
No, there is content for everyone, but not all content is meant for everyone.
People who want to do the raid will find time for it. Believe me.
I mean, do you see people with PCs barely fulfilling minimum requirements to play this game kitten about ANet that they can’t play WvW and that they should lower the graphics even further so they can? No? Thought so. Same with raids, just that here it’s “unwillingness to make some free time or lacking it” instead of “unwillingness to spend money or lacking it”
This game seriously lacks things to do if you’re mainly into instanced content (and no fan of soloing, I guess), it’s only going to get worse with dungeons throwing off less money and we can’t be sure yet about how many fractals we can run a day for rewards/how long that’s going to take. Raids are something lovers of instanced content can invest time into, with the whole thing being split up in multiple wings AND the rewards being timegated so that you can only get something from each boss once a week.
You’re the selfish one here since you apparently can’t make enough free time for raids and thus want them to be short so that you can run them, ignoring those who actually want the raids to take longer than CoF p1 (because that would be ridiculous)
If they designed the System well, you get enough EXP for the Mastery by leveling your Fractals.
Even if they did that, that would probably mean they’re taking a person completely new to fractals as example, i.e. reward level 1. So we’d have to restart or farm exp regardless.
Except you mean something along the lines of “each unlocked fractal reward level adds EXP to your mastery”, which would be nice but likely isn’t going to happen. lol
https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3p9v5c/we_really_need_a_countdown_chat_command/
Have all of these people just recently started doing fractals or what?
I’m betting they just did because #omgHoTFractalNewSystemHype
Guild Wars 1 had it, which is probably why GW2 doesn’t.
That one made me laugh a bit.
yadda yadda

Had a classic yesterday.
Mace/Shield and Hammer guardian joined our fractals 50 after my friend and I bailed out of our first group (GS camping Mesmer, Staff guard and someone else I can’t remember).
We get Mossman, guardian asks “uw”? We say nah, proceed to fight him on land. Eventually wipe because I don’t think I’ve ever seen aegis from him, WoR was never placed either. I asked him why he didn’t use it, “WoR is useless as Mossman”. welp. He does slot it though, we kill him, get Snowblind where he insists on “yoloing” the source and dies a bunch of times. Then we started to fight Lornarr, where he then used his WoR on cd. Thankfully, there were no major messups on Cliffside, which kind of surprised me, actually. He did enjoy using his scepter AA while Archdiviner had his missile reflection up, though. lol
Are anet now promoting two guilds by name? Having guilds mentioned like this will inadvertently give them a large pool of new players wanting to join, which seems to be a thing that Anet has previously avoided. I don’t even remember if they ever named a guild before in a official message.
You act like anyone besides regulars visits the trashca… err, the Fractals, Dungeons & Raids sub.
Feel bad for some other speed clearing guilds who wanted to go for first world kill/s for raids.
World firsts are completely and utterly meaningless now, if one group of players has early access to content. This gives them a massive advantage.
Or you, idk, just exclude them from being eligible for world firsts and as long as they don’t publish videos, tactics or similar (which they won’t) everyone else can still go for it.
Not like it’s rocket science.I’d want a list of the players and accounts that had early access then, so it could be confirmed none at all were involved in claimed World Firsts then. It’s too easy for them to pass info on.
Even so, you can’t remove that info from thier brains, so what’s to stop them telling otehr the info, starting another guild, etc. etc.
They’ve ruined it.
I’d say you’re a bit too paranoid, but… that’s not the right word for it, at all. I don’t see why either guild, especially DnT, should do what you mentioned in the last part. They’re a high-end PvE guild, they want competition, so why would they seek to destroy it by leaking the info once they’re allowed to (due to not being bound to the NDA on release)? It would make no sense at all. Same about creating another guild; if there’s suddenly a guild no one heard about and completely randomly there’s people from DnT in it and they try to claim world first, everyone’s going to be quite suspicious.
I mean I’m one hell of a pessimistic person, but kitten .

‘hardcore’ pve guilds that already exist will just become irrelevant when raids are released, those being the ones comprising of trials half of their own members can’t complete themselves or never even had to do, the ones that are filled with farmville players that log in everyday to farm their daily dungeons, play barbie the gw2 endgame and then logout.
Lmao +1
He so has a point there lol
I love how this devolved from a simple heads up that there’s testing undergoing and they’re pulling in feedback (AND actually communicating, which feels like a miracle on its own) to… well, this.
That’s good to hear, thanks for letting us know something like this is happening.
Surprise kitten attack!
You made me look for a proper response picture, but instead I found a two-headed kitten. Welp.
Surprise attack successful.
“Good thing Fractals will now be 1 island per run.”
“Yes, I think many Americans don’t understand how messy it can get in Europe sometimes when running fractals. One of the hardest fractals is actually the swamp level because, if you don’t speak the same language (or if people don’t understand english) it becomes very hard, if almost impossible to do.”
…????
I’ve been pugging fractals since forever and I never had this issue. wtf.
Mai Trin isn’t that hard to solo.
Only if you’re a Guardian (even though most of her and Horrik projectiles are unblockable) or Warrior.
I remember managing to solo her with Ele and Mesmer back then and I don’t consider myself as a very good player.
Being able to step out of her sword AAs before she hits you is one of the most important things, imo.
1. By doing group content player acquires common sense, so it would be reasonable to simultaneously rise all the ratings up to some level
This genuinely made me laugh, thank you.
This would be funny if it wasn’t so sad.
People will find a way around it, for example making 2 5-man parties and then form a squad
Sure, but that’ll be mixed in with all of the other open world stuff like SW and achievement hunting. It’ll still be pretty tricky.
I guess to counter that, people will take the personal story lfg for their raid lfgs? Considering I’ve never seen anyone use it.
You still got a point there, yes.
They said that there will be no LFR tool, but they said nothing about no LFG section.
That’s exactly what this means, though. There is no tech for building a raid squad from the LFG tool, and changing the LFG tool is something they can’t do now.
People will find a way around it, for example making 2 5-man parties and then form a squad
As many are noting, we have years of anecdotal evidence from other games showing that, while some would use them to improve the game, the vocal majority would just use them as a tool to incite drama, encourage exclusionary behavior, and put people down. I realize some of that happens already, but it isnt something Anet should support in any way.
As useful as the information might be, the positives simply do not outweigh the negatives.
I’d agree with this also.
While I would want to have it mainly so I can tweak my own performance and build. I would also use it to see how others are performing and would form negative opinions about under performing individuals. Its human nature and thus serves as a divisive tool. Currently, if a group under performs you shrug it off since you can’t really pinpoint who the weak links are and in the end you benefit from it by having less stress.
GW2 is a game made for casuals so that any random group of people can join together and beat content. Content is made with this in mind and doesn’t require people to be running only the most optimal builds to beat it and I prefer it stay that way. Having a DPS meter encourages elitism and I’m guilty of this myself when I played WoW.
Of course raid leaders could request that you share that information, but then it is YOUR choice to share it.
My Opinion
====
Problem with this is already evident in the current game.
Lfg: Ping gear on join.
Player: I don’t want to.
Group: kicks player. Then someone says, well you should read. Eventually 90% of the ad postings say ping gear or run meta build. So now, the player has only one choice if they want to do the content. Ping their gear or can’t do the content because there are barely any ads that don’t ask for them to ping their gear. Also, profession limitations as well:
LFG: No necro or ranger.
Player: But they’re my main character!
Group: kicks player. In both of your lcases, you joined a party that wants to enforce their rules and you ignored them, joining regardless and then complaining about a justified kick, instead of making your own group or joining one which happily accepts you.
People starting “have at least x dps”-groups would probably just as horrible as “metazerk only 10k+ AP”-groups, not because they’re meta build-users, but most of those blindly copy them without looking at synergies between traits, why those traits were picked, other viable traits/weapons/utilities you might swap in for specific encounters…
I’d love a proper DPS meter so it could help me understand where I’m doing mistakes, what works especially well against a specific boss etc.
Being afraid of “DPS meter abuse” is quite silly imo, considering there are tons of people out there not caring in the slightest about minmaxing, which is their choice. If you don’t, that’s cool, there’s lots of people who share your mindset and which probably like to play with you. If there’s a group which wants to be efficient and minmaxes their class (at least to a certain extend) and you don’t want to do this, why try to squeeze in regardless? You’re saying, you as if I personally did this lol. Being afraid to play a profession or use a particular build is silly imo. With your view is better to advertise and “wait around to have fun” because a player does not want to cave into zerker meta 10k+AP DPS _ group. It’s better for the player to stick with the minority and wait because of players hopping on the meta ap dps meter bandwagon. Again, I feel that is fine for raids but not for other areas in the game. That was my opinion.
I went with “you” because you went with “my/I” in your examples.
I wonder… Lupi’s AA hitting in melee range wasn’t a documented/intended change, was it? I mean it’s probably one of those things that were suddenly there but no one knows why and for what reason, but I’m still curious
It was never documented. Last time when people were asking wtf is going on with lupi redpost said that he can get fired for answering or something like that. It was looooong time ago.
Oh, I thought that was regarding the OS-method. Guess both things got mentioned in that topic.
Well, not like it’s going to get fixed, but this AA surely makes it a whole lot more difficult to solo.
I wonder… Lupi’s AA hitting in melee range wasn’t a documented/intended change, was it? I mean it’s probably one of those things that were suddenly there but no one knows why and for what reason, but I’m still curious
The joke here is that ANet wins a bit more whenever someone answers no.
I’ll still run them, probably not as often and with different intents.
We can’t know, it could either be favorable to craft/use the +10 now, it could be worse to wait out on it or nothing changes.
At least I don’t think they said anything regarding those infusions.
It could be
a) Fractal mastery
b) infusion slots in the remaining pieces of gear
c) they’re not even giving us enough AR to take 1% damage from Agony on the last scales.
It’s probably going to be a) and b) combined.
With the changes coming in HoT, there will only be one fractal shard per difficulty, so you can pick which ones you like to run and which ones not. For the most part, at least.
I already preordered and put together a raid guild, so I guess I might as well stick it out and see how that goes, but…yeah…Anyone know their refund policy? I probably can’t get one since I went into a beta?
I doubt you can get a refund, since it’s a digital purchase and bound to your existing account.
Concerns about aether path: so far it is still one of the most fun but also rather difficult pathes in games (i dare to say mechanically harder than a lot of fractal instances). How is nerfing dungeon rewards will affect this specific path? The path is already quite unrewarding and it is hard to find players to do it. Wouldn’t nerf to this path make it completely obsolete?
Isn’t that kind of the point of all this?
Inb4 we have to pay to enter Dungeons :^)
You say that like it’s only a possibility.
Amazing.

It will leak into various lfg ads. When everyone does the same thing, new solutions are not always found. People become content with the status quo and new solutions to harder content are only found by a minority of players. Then this information is eventually shared or leaked to the community. But again, I understand how it will be useful in raids but not in other areas of the game.

I get that people are upset but why do people have to clutter this forum with their own topics? Everyone thinks their opinion is so super important that it deserves its own topic?
I don’t quite understand it either, maybe they think ANet is more likely to see it this way? I don’t know.
@Acotje: You say that, but there’s games that actually require entrance items for certain dungeons. The difference is, you can actually get good items out of those and at the same time, farm for guaranteed items rewarded through quests.
Some want attention, some are clueless, some just rage post without even trying to look forward relevant thread and knowing Anet tries to gather all threads into one messy megathread and then completely ignore them.
Also most threads now on this subforum were probably posted under general and subsequently moved here by over zealous mods.
Probably. Oh well.
I just wish they would’ve shown us the updated gold-reward tables, because now I’ll have to pug as many dungeons as I can until HoT release to get gold back in before we end up with amazing rewards like 75s for Arah p4 (exaggerated of course).
I get that people are upset but why do people have to clutter this forum with their own topics? Everyone thinks their opinion is so super important that it deserves its own topic?

Well, I guess there goes my chance of ever getting my dungeoneer collections done …
You can always pvp. :^)
Still waiting for the fractal reward track where you get fractal skins thrown after you :^)
But on the bright side this video was made…
Oh my god this is amazing
@Wethospu: Dungeons always were a decent source of income for if you wanted to gear up or just buy yourself something nice. Getting less funds from dungeons could mean that you’re going to have a harder time crafting ascended gear, or at least it’s going to take longer
The most difficult about Trin is people who don’t know how it works tbh
Killed her hundreds of times and know how to solokite her. Still sometimes dying from barrage because of awesome tellings. Geee, surely this is l2p issue.
I’ll agree that the tellings for the barrage are still not precise. Imo you get a feeling for it over time, but yes, it’s still annoying. That affects a lot of the “old” aoe-circles though.
Sooo since they are shifting gold rewards from dungeons to fractals and raids… does that mean that fractals will now reward 5-10 silver per “island”?
ftfy
“Dong” works too. It’s handy when you want to insult someone and get past the herd of cats
Interestingly enough, kitten (without ‘new’) does get censored. WTF.
Since I brought up his spiritual guide VGM earlier, did Old Man Nemesis ever put out part 2 of that something or other that was going to blow our minds or some such? I need a laugh after hearing about the next phase of dungeon removal.
BTW, F2P WS is OMG #1.
I don’t think he ever followed up with something after he got crushed and challenged.
Not saying I like the change (I like to farm dungeons for cash)…but there is some serious hypocrisy going on here. You guys say the dungeon community LOVEs dungeons in one breath then say it will kill the community in another just because they nerf the monetary reward? If you really like doing an activity the monetary reward being slightly nerfed isn’t going to affect it.
Yall just whining you aint got easy money no mo.
I think most people here agree that while we do enjoy instanced group content, Dungeons are extremely stale by now and neglected. Add to that that a fair amount of people run them with their guild etc.
It’s going to attract less pugs as has been said, making it less accessible for new players.
The most difficult about Trin is people who don’t know how it works tbh
rip

plz anet stop ur AR its boring and a no skill mechanic
or make ar account bound not gear bound listen to the voice of reason
not all of us are WOW player and want gear grind
wat, this must be bait, but oh well
AR is fine, really
You can technically run most scales without AR, you’d just need to get your dodges right. It’s a way to progress through fractals and that’s nice.
Ascended gear is account bound; make yourself a nice set of trinkets and you can get 60~ AR with just +5 and +10 Infusions.
Sure, because you don’t want it, no one wants it? I assume most people who frequent fractals are quite happy with the system and wouldn’t want it gone.
On topic: I wonder if they will even give us enough AR to get to 1% ticks; I could see them giving us a bit less AR so that agony actually gets more meaning again besides “oh hey I have 50% less healing for a few secs, who cares”.
We’re probably going to get AR from Fractal Mastery, but who knows.
Everyone that has done fractals for a while knows that if you die during Mai Trin you can relog and Ellen Kiel will res you and you can walk to a certain spot to get back into the fight. It’s a bug that has been a part of this fractal since I can remember and it NEEDS TO BE FIXED.
I got kicked from a party just now for NOT RELOGGING FAST ENOUGH. One or two people went down and I died so I relogged to get back in and when I got back into the fractal a vote kick was called and I was kicked from the party. When I messaged one of the people in the party he said I was “a useless kitten who didn’t know how to relog.” So now this bug has gone from something that people use to make the fight easier to something that people think is required to beat the encounter and are actually kicking people who don’t relog or even just those who don’t relog fast enough.
Just PLEASE fix it. It sucks so much to get to the final fight in a full set of fractals and get kicked before getting the final loot.
No offense but, without this glitch, most people wouldn’t bother doing fractals lvl 50 because Mai Trin is a terrible fight (the cannon phase that is), it’s either this or having a thief with stealth or get out…
So you’re saying people are, as usual, too lazy to get good.
F2P account works, too.
Oh right, I totally forgot about that.
Apparently, necro has gain some very nice (unintended) utilitity https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3o7t0z/mai_trins_cannons_are_corroded/
I speculate that it would work at Old Tom? Ventari’s tablet works at Old Tom but not the cannon phase.
Heh, I was wondering why it worked in the cannon room in Thaumanova, thought they just changed that. Guess that’ll be fixed.
