Why do you want to roll a norn on the floor? I think you have really strange fetishes…
Don’t knock it, till you try it.
I’m waffling between Norn and Human Rev myself. I have used the wardrobe to design (imo) two very cool looks.
Unfortunately, with the ‘stretching’ of skins over Norn Models, or over-sizing items on humans, means that two races with the same armour skins look very different.
Appearance aside, both races make the most sense to me. I really don’t want to follow in the footsteps of Rytlock with a Charr, and I have little to no desire to play another Asura or Salad.

The class getting Shouts is the Necromancer
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: NoxInfernus.2361
Actually, the Howling Banshee’s of WH40K* are pretty cool.
IF the Nec. Spec. is based off shouts, and IF it is inspired by the Banshee (WH40K or other more traditional types), then I think it will be well received.
*highly mobile – Martial melee types that use screams to disorient and fear their enemies while striking them down
Hate the name. Love the concept.
How long did it take to come up with Dragonhunter?
Not long, I’m thinking.
Don’t get me wrong, the name would be appropriate for a Warrior or as a future Ranger specialization (After Druid). I could even see it being used on a Thief.
Sorry, but this name fails when attached to Guardian.
However, as a player who enjoys taking professions out of their comfort zones to experiment with from time to time, the idea of a back line Guardian sounds promising.
I just won’t call it Dragonhunter (/retch)
Similar boat as OP. Portal dropped for my wife, but not for me.
And, I’m OK with it.
Why?
Perspective. It’s just a beta, it’s not the full xpac.
Even if I do get a portal, they are only granting us finished bits at a time. It’s not the whole show, only a segment of it.
I suspect that the primary purpose of this beta is to build hype.
Well, I’m hyped. I don’t need any more hype. I’m over-hyped.
It’s a sale Anet, if I get in to a Beta or not.
This being said, you darn right I’ll be looking over her shoulder from time to time while she plays.
kitten it. More hype.
I mentioned my experience with deleting the item. I didn’t say that you would have to do it – or that it would be possible at all.
I’m just making a suggestion and relaying my experience with customer service..
This is exactly what im talking about. Imagine all complains if all blue parts of zodiac were covered in juggernaut effect. It just ruins all experience.
Fortunately, zodiac works great with juggy. Unfortunately Balth. outfit does NOT.Yea
Its like iIwasted 130 gold on nothing and I want my 130 gold back
You can try to ask for a Gem refund by opening a support ticket – Do it SOON (ie. today/tomorrow).
I was disappointed with my purchase of the Bass Guitar. I opened a ticket and was refunded the gems in less than 30 hours from my purchase. It required that I deleted the item and verification that I had done so by them.
The two GM’s that I dealt with made it clear that Gem refunds are not normally done, and that my case was the exception to the rule.
Still, if you are really dissatisfied with the outfit, you should at least try for a refund.
Make sure you give a full and detailed explanation of why you are dissatisfied with this gem store item.
Good Luck
They were/are frustrated that DB and Mag are beating you at the moment, and are taking their frustrations out on uplevels that choose to play.
Any good Commander would try to convince pre-80’s to help out in other ways i.e. Yak patrol, or running supply where needed.
Hell, an up level with even a few wvw ranks placed in Arrow cart, cannon, ballista, or Treb can be put to use while the “veterans” conduct operations with boots on the ground.
… And we all know how much SBI loves their siege
My suggestion, ignore them or consider moving to a server with Commanders capable of thinking outside the box.
Edit – to echo a suggestion above – EotM might be a little more forgiving should you really feel pressured to leave WvW, but yet still enjoy the atmosphere
(edited by NoxInfernus.2361)
Duels – I have no problem with that.
What I do have a problem with is those jacknuts who message me to stop firing my Arrow Cart, Cannon, or Ballista at a red target right outside our server’s keep/tower.
I always message back to angry posts, that if they were really any good at 1v1 they would have the confidence to take their uber-skills to a back area. Having the option to run for the gate or guards when you start to lose does not make you a great duelist.
Lose the security blanket Sally.
I requested and received my refund in less than 24 hours.
Both GM’s that I dealt with made it clear that gem store refunds are not typically done. I believe that I made my case that the sound and performance was not desirable, in the least.
I gave full props to the aesthetic design of the item (it really does look good), but that I did not purchase it for looks alone.
After they confirmed that I deleted the item from my account, I was refunded the full 800 gems.
So you MAY be able to get a refund, but 1) this is the exception not the rule 2) when doing so, make a logical argument as to why this item is not up to the standard you expected from Anet
My opinion is that they should look into a functional preview for items of this nature so customers are better informed – having to go to 3rd party sites like Dulfy or Reddit to research potential purchases is silly.
Side note – I’ve had to deal with customer support a handful of time over my 2.5+ years of playing GW2, and I have been very happy with both their professionalism and their turn-around.
Kudos to that team. I know it’s not an easy job.
I have mixed feelings about this purchase.
I can live with the sound (grudgingly). It is not a bass guitar in the classic sense. It is a resonator bass which, as others have described as organ-like, a bad midi file, a Casio synth-bass, a bad garage grunge bass, etc.
I say I can live with the sound, but to be honest I’m also limited by it. Frankly, it does not sound great when attempting to play with other instruments. The one exception is the drum which can be made to work (I’ve tried this on my Alt account, setting up a drum beat and then playing the bass on my main account).
The responsiveness is terribad. Just ugly.
I was running with a fairly good connection yesterday and I just found that the notes responded much slower than on other instruments that I’ve purchased.
I hope they re-visit this and see if they could ‘tighten’ it up a bit.
Appearance is top notch. I mean really good. I play this with my Rob Zombie look-a-like Norn Necromancer and he looks awesome both playing and holding it idle.
I give the artists and animators full marks for this.
I’ve heard some other races don’t look as “metal” when playing it, and that’s too bad.
I can verify on a Norn, it looks good (but that’s my opinion).
Oh how I wish Anet would take a fraction of their development team and rework this zone.
I always thought it would be great if they had a developing side story where the Consortium would learn to control the Karka and then build the island to their own little island nation poised to take over the Tyrian coast- not the lame beach hotel that they have now.
They could be set to become really, really good bad guys … Kind of like the LexCorp of Tyria (Public face is all smiles, but underneath something else).
The only time I set my character’s feet on these shore is for the Karka queen, the guild events that take place there, and very very rarely to farm Karka.
Too bad too, as that zone had an epic ‘birth’, but got old well before its time.
Pretty sure somebody already made something like this before, but oh well. I’m missing my dapper tuxedo.
You look a little like Zatanna (minus the hair)
I Approve
… the back of a Volkswagon
Wait, that’s not right …
Karka Patriarch chest back during the unveiling of SouthSun.
How did a deep sea creature get its claws on a hunter anyway?
Sorry, in my opinion a new race brings very little to the table.
Professions and specializations (and to a lesser degree masteries) are where it’s at for me.
I’d take it one step further and ask for a slot that allows any consumable (not just food /utilities) to be used.
I’m not certain if the auto-renew idea would work in this case, but it certainly would be fun.
There are tons of great consumables in this game. I’m sure many players either don’t know about, or bother with many because they either forget to renew them or can’t be bothered to open their inventory, find the icon and click.
I’ve farmed my tomes, skill scrolls, Crafted my trinkets, rings, and amulet.
My Back piece and various armor has also been banked. Weapons have been bought or crafted and their skins selected (where applicable). The collected armor is a mish-mash of styles so I have also farmed Transmutation charges from sPvP to make him look good.
I know what he’ll look like thanks to wardrobe preview and playing with a total makeover kit’s preview.
Yeah, I’m pretty much good to go on all fronts
I enjoyed Ghosts. I read it before GW2 launched so it was a nice primer as to the state of Tyria 250 years after the original games left off.
Edge was read during or shortly after GW2 Launched. It gave me some context as to who these ‘dungeon people’ were and why they were a big deal. Didn’t really enjoy this book as much as Ghosts
I was surprised as to how much I enjoyed Sea of Sorrows. It again gave me background context to Lions Arch’s history since the original game series, and I found the characters to be enjoyable.
There were a few ‘forced’ parts, but generally it worked.
They are certainly worth the read (more so if you can get them on sale or borrow them from a library).
I bought 5 of them, and ended up 4 blues and 1 green.
Anet said there’re 10 new dyes out of 25 choices lol…
But instead of having 10/25 chance of getting the new dye, I bet the actual percentage to get those new dye is like 1%.
If the chance is really 10/25, the chance of not getting any shadow dyes in 5 consecutive rounds is 7.7% (0.6 to the power of 5).Totally a fraud! Anet, thank you for tricking your customer, that I’ll never fall to your RNG fraud again. I will never spend a penny on those RNG related things you have created.
You gambled and ‘lost’. If you are not willing to lose, then don’t play the RNG. If you were looking for a specific shadow dye (I suspect Shad. Abyss), then you may have been better off just buying it off the TP.
RNG Sucks, and the odds are not in the player’s favour.
Every time these dye packs come out, these types of posts shortly follow. I wish Anet would just put these special dyes in pre-made kits for 1800 gems (or whatever) and save the rest of us from these frustration threads/posts.
Not a fraud, but rather a carrot to be dangled for your inner gambler to bite, and bite, and bite again.
… They are arrows anyway and shouldn’t be doing heaps of damage that they are doing right now to siege equipment such as rams.
By that logic then Rangers, Thieves, and Warriors should not be able to harm Rams when pew pewing them with their ranged weapons.
Easy to learn (or fluke), hard to master.
Having the foresight to set up and execute combo fields at the right time is a skill that few take the time to learn.
If care is taken, they certainly can add to combat. Teamwork is key
I’d also like to point out that In the past week there have been quite a few player’s Characters running around sporting the black wings and the Scythe (including myself).
Admittedly, it is a look which is both cheese and classic ‘Dark angel’ – include the halo from the LA event for maximum cheese.
I also think people are looking ahead to Revenant and hoping that staff will be part of the allowable weapons.
IF the Rev gets Staff
and IF it turns out to be Melee (over ranged) …
I will live my dream of using a spear by equipping either a Aureate Staff (kind of spear-like), Chaos Staff skin, or Tormented. Not a perfect compromise, but you work with what you are given.
Hands down my overall favourite will be the scythe skin, assuming the animation for a melee staff somewhat makes sense for that skin.

Glider Combat the new underwater combat.
oh wait …
Actually I like underwater combat (in concept at least), so Glider combat might be good fun.
and some Draconic Pants
Be careful what you ask for …
If you think clipping is an issue when mix-n-matching some armour of the same weight now, image what it would be like mixing Heavy pants, with medium trench coat and Light dungeon shoulders.
yikes.
No, I’m afraid the ship has sailed for ‘free-form’ armour.
I’m hoping for small QoL patches semi regularly from now until HoT launch. At least it’s something to look forward to other than Tuesday gem store updates.
A little sad at no Living world side stories (hopeful, but doubting)
(edited by NoxInfernus.2361)
I guess you’ll just go on not playing then. The wardrobe system and the redesigned PvP is here to stay.
By the way you didn’t lose anything. You still have your skins that you worked hard to obtain.
Also, ease back on the attitude. This game was doing fine in your absence, and threats of not playing until it is “fixed” matter to no one but you.
For lack of a more detailed reasoning by Anet for the existence of the Rev, I have decided to imagine my future Revenant as a being similar to Razah from GW1.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Razah
This is subject to change should more detailed lore develop.

Speculation on new weapons for professions
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: NoxInfernus.2361
For the longest time I’ve hoped for Warrior to get Pistol (either MH or OH), but I have a feeling that it might be dagger.
I welcome staff it they could make it a melee weapon (although many of the existing sins will look odd)
I’m kind of excited about the possibility of a Guardian Bow choice.
I’m looking forward to Necro with GS, and the Engi with the hammer.
More so, as to their specializations themes that explain or justify these weapon additions
The rest … well, I guess we’ll see.
The best thing Anet can do is to make the Steam Ogre only spawnable after FE is killed. That would prevent Griefers/Trolls from ruining the Boss Train for everyone on the map.
They are not griefers, nor trolls, they are killing the Ogre when it is best for them and their time, not when other people tell them too.
yes yes, not grieferss or trolls, they are killing the Ogre when it just magically so happens to be the most inconvenient for the largest amount of other players :roll eyes: Especially since you need to kill FE to do the final charge on the matrix key in which the next logical step is to do Ogre.
It might be the “next logical step”, but then I would argue that your beef is with Anet and the design of the event. It is not with the players who are working within the rules as set out by the game makers.
What they are doing isn’t even close to the definition of griefing.
If a team of 10 players purposely does something to prevent an event for the other 90 players on the map, that would be griefing.
But as OP has stated they are not doing it with the expressed purpose of preventing other players from doing it. Their participation in the event before FE, and not after, is following under the unwritten rule of first come first served.
They are playing the game their way, and still within the rules.
It may annoy you, but it is not actionable.
I agree with OP, 100%
There may need to be a small amount of work done, beyond the art design, but precedents have been set.
I’m referring to new audio to fit the skin – for example, it would sound wrong to have a crossbow sound like a rifle. The precedents I mentioned can be seen in such example items as the aforementioned sling shot skin, or Scarlet’s kiss and Predator rifles, or the “roar” of the new Red Lion War horn skins (to name a few).
EDIT – One more thing. I regularly carry around my Executioner’s axe while lamenting how I wished it were a ‘real weapon’, and not a Toy.
If Anet took that design and made it available as a skin to be placed over a Hammer, you darn right I would use it (Gem store idea maybe?…please?)
(edited by NoxInfernus.2361)
You set your expectations too high.
They did not advertise this episode as talking about new weapons, specializations, or Revenant Game play.
The episode advertised that they would delve deeper into masteries. Opinions vary on if they succeeded in that regard.
You know it’s sad when the moderators can no longer tell a legitimate compliment from a sarcastic one.
In all seriousness, your screenshot really does not tell the whole story. What did you type in chat prior to the mod responding with the ban hammer? (you know, what’s not seen and scrolled off the chat)
Hold up there OP.
Your question may have merit, but before you go calling out folks, you need to do your research.
One of the example groups that you cite in your screen, leaves their room open for ALL players to enter. Sure, we may use the room for our Guild PvE players to help get their dailies done, but in truth, it is very rare that we don’t have guests joining us looking for a straight-up match, to practice builds, or hang out.
Many of our guild members (and guests) just want to get away from the sometimes toxic environment that is the PvP lobby, general hot join, or unranked solo, yet still love to get their PvP on.
We welcome all – Don’t bring an attitude, and have fun. Simple rules to follow.
There is no dark conspiracy for ‘rank farming’.
It could be as simple as adding a trait line focusing on the specialization without adding available trait points.
More trait options with less points, will by design, cause the character to ‘lose’ access to traits of the core class .
So instead of 6/0/0/2/6 for example, you might get something like 2/0/0/2/4/6
All speculation – the truth will be revealed soon enough.
I’ll leave this here for you folks that staff is ‘weak’
http://ejmas.com/jwma/articles/2001/jwmaart_docherty_0501.htm
In particular I call attention to:
“The quarterstaff was, and is an extremely versatile weapon, it can be used as freely as the staff man wishes to use it. When used to strike or hit it is like a sword or battle axe, when used to thrust it becomes like a spear, strikes and thrusts can be from either side of the body. This makes it very difficult for any opponent to respond quickly to these attacks, that can change so readily from side to side, and from thrust to strike without pause.”
carry on.
Proof that land spears are coming for HoT
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: NoxInfernus.2361
While spears may one day make an appearance in a future GW2 release … HoT will not be that release.
Until Someone of Authority from Anet comes and makes an official definitive statement to the contrary, do not expect spears in game for anything other than water combat.
I’m in a guild with a number of Player’s who are or were in the military and emergency services who suffer from PTSD.
A few have mentioned that after playing the game for a few hours it helps them ease into face to face social interactions that would be difficult for them otherwise.
One player mentioned that he was better able to talk to his teen age son after they started playing the game together.
Internet tough-guy syndrome.
Pay it no mind.
I just collapse the chat box when I’m in the lobby and this stuff starts getting to an uncomfortable level, and bring it up again in matches.
I’m also a big supporter of the block function
There’s no point in getting involved. You can report, but it may take some time for Anet to review logs and act (if they do at all).
Some folks don’t know the line between competitive banter and abusive harassment.
Oh, I forgot about interesting norn engi option. He can be spacemarine. Burn your enemies for the Emperor!
Come join us , Brother.

*Most/all are Warrior or Guardian, but we could always use a Norn -Tech Marine.
While poorly worded, the original concern is a valid one. A new player would have played through PS (introduces you to Pact, and Trahearne), then you suddenly dropped into S2 which talks about the fallout of Scarlet’s invasion. The game also assumes you know your team at least to some extend (and talks about the consequences of their actions during S1).
Having played through S1 myself, I can easily see how a newer player would get horribly lost. Just sitting in Silverwastes listening to people ask ‘what is the Marionette people keep talking about’ can really drive the point home.
I hope they will add some sort of ‘into’ cinematic for the players starting S2 who never played S1. It need not be a large one, but a few slides that recap the story of how you met your team and defeated Scarlet would be very useful.
I have to agree, 100%
Anet wants new players (and players who have not played in a while). LS2 and even HoT came about because of Scarlet.
Like it or not, she is a major part of the Lore now.
It just does not make sense to play through the battle of Arah, kill Zhiatan, and then jump to LS2 with little/no back-story into the events (and NPC’s) that were introduced in LS1.
I’m glad I’ve been here from the beginning, because I just don’t think I could process that Huge Gap in the story.
I feel bad for new players.
I thought about the Aether-hammer when I saw the video as well. I tried previewing it on my Large body Norn.
Yeah it was cool with the pistons and the steam, but it didn’t look good (to me) when stowed (far, far too big).
I then tried the Mechahammer skin (which I have). A lot of Engi’s were/are talking about that. Again, it didn’t fit my character’s look – besides, when my warrior hammers-it-up, he goes Mecha.
Previewing in the wardrobe helped me to find what I was looking for – The Adamant Guard hammer is the ticket for me. Industrial enough to fit my Engineer, cheap enough to not break my bank (63K karma is a drop to my 3 million)
That being said – I’d buy the Aetherhammer if it came out again. It’s so unique that I couldn’t pass it up.
I sure as hell won’t pay TP prices for it though.

Seriously though, there’s nothing dishonest about any of this. The base game is B2P. So is the additional content, as it is with every other game ever. Only Anet is nice enough to make it free for active players who bother to log in ONCE for ONE SECOND during those two weeks. Can’t bother with that? Don’t complain it ain’t free anymore.
FFXIV let`s me play 1 year old content. WoW let`s me play 8 years old content. RO let`s me play 10 years old content. TSW let`s me play 3 years old content. There you have sub-based, B2P and F2P examples. And is like this in pretty much ALL MMO`s on the market.
one small correction – TSW lets you play 3 years of old content that shipped with the original game. Issues 6-10 you will need to pay for (for the side stories/bonus material – similar to what Anet does with Living story). In addition to this if you want to finish the main story from the box game you must buy certain issues to get to ‘end-game’ i.e. Tokyo.
Then play a Norn. Norn are just evolved Kodan anyways.
Or De-evolved, if you were to ask a Kodan.
It’s a garbage fight.
Poorly designed. too long, and overall not fun.
And why the hell can’t we skip through the kitten cut scenes?
EDIT: Re: cut scenes – Almost all cut scenes should have an option to ‘skip’ (one exception is Anet’s recent patch that occurs after dragon defeat- this is a major plot point that should not be skipped).
For the ‘lesser’ cut scenes they are a time waster if the player has multiple alt’s. If the player wishes to watch it great, but don’t make the player watch it. I have 13 characters. Once or twice is enough. By the 13th time I’m ready to drop my guild and sign up with the dragons.
Re: the Fight – I admit I was too harsh in labelling it garbage. The problem was that the audio hints that the NPC’s give you can be drowned out by the sound of the dragon and other battle sounds. If you don’t hear the hints it can (and did) turn into a drawn out and frustrating fight.
I solved this problem by playing with my audio settings.
It also helped to read the suggestions that the other players from this thread have given.
Once that was done, I completed the battle in a fraction of the time then the first couple of times I did it.

I play Norn.
Norn do not vilify an entire race. We judge each being’s merit as an individual.
We may not like certain groups, factions, cabals, etc.(see Son of Svanir), but we tolerate so long as peace is maintained.
Break the piece, we break you.
A Norn will remain neutral to a Sylvari, until such time as that being earns our respect, … or our wrath.
why did they have to blast them with that infernal blue glow? It detracts from the rest of the weapon’s form.
I wish they would pull the glow back about 30-50%
