I would like to see a 3rd ‘Heavy’ option, and really don’t care about a new race.
What I would like is more utility abilities added across the board, and more elites options (non racial)
I would also like to see a few more existing weapon options added to professions that are now not applicable too (e.g. Rifle on a Ranger, or shield on a Necro, etc)

An End to the Queensdale Train

I love the QD Train, but I also see problems associated with it as well.

A few months ago I created a Human Mesmer and after playing through the starting cut scene area and then doing a little running around in QD to get the waypoints, jumped on the train.
For the next 2.5 weeks, whenever I’d log on to that character, I’d run the train. Nothing else. It took this mesmer from level 5 or 6 up to level 59 or 60,

At this point the battle of Lion’s Arch LS began, so I moved the character over there, and proceeded to farm LA to the conclusion of the Living Story. This easily got him to Level 80.

So, it was a quick leveling process (I think the total time played from creation to 80 was easily under 20 hours), but the character and I as a player did suffer.

By level 80
- This character only had around 18% map completion. This made using this character for guild missions next to impossible until I explored more.
- He was under geared – This was by choice, as for this character only used loot from drops or Karma Vendors, The TP was off limits.
- I really didn’t know how to play a mesmer. Let’s be honest, you can auto attack your way through a champ train, never touching any other ability key besides 1.
The Lions Arch battle offered a little more difficulty. However, once you got into a zerg, ‘1’ was really all you needed.
This became apparent when I when I took this toon to WvW and PvP and was stomped, over and over.
- He did generate a good deal of karma (from champs) and crafting materials (salvaged what I could not use)
- Through salvaging, I was able to to bump my MF up a good deal – although the ’children’s drawings’ were a major contributor to that.

My Mesmer is temporarily shelved as I’m now working on another character. I’m leveling the new one via map exploration, but find myself drawn to a circuit or two of the QD Train every time I log in just for the quick EXP boost from killing the champs.

In this regard the QD Train is low risk, moderate gain for the effort and time put in.

I wouldn’t be sad to see the QD Train nerfed, but I’d be hard pressed to another where the pay off is as good (sub-level 80 zones).

ummmm what?

I have to agree with the other folks above me, gaining levels are probably the easiest thing to do in this game.
Don’t feel to bad. It’s not really explained that you have access to other starting areas (like, at all).
Arguably, Grinding is in the game – just not until much later, and it does not involve leveling (see ascended weapons/armour & the hunt for legendary crafting). At least that grinding is self inflicted and not 100% necessary.

Enter Rata Sum to troll TP for free golds, see:

John: ranger is pretty pet-reliant so the best thing to do is get a bear and use it to tank while you dps with a bow from a distance
Mike: oh cool i’ll try it out, where do i cap bear

So I figure I should chime in before the poor newb actually ends up trying to run bearbow and I get:

John: dude wtf i am giving legit advice
Sam: man i dunno but my friend runs bearbow and he seems to do just fine
Phil: yeah lol i leveled my ranger all the way to 15 using bear + bow, havent had any problems yet
Tom: dude they’re ’range"rs, youre supposed to use a bow
Dave: lol literally every ranger in my guild runs bearbow, but im sure this random dude in map chat knows better than the meta

So there you have it, bearbow is the meta. Why haven’t you respecced yet?

Ill destroy any Bearbow. Bearbow is for useless morons who cant memorize timings, or who fail at moving

I’d be careful who you call a moron. The first time you try to “destroy” a bearbow and get your kitten handed to you, you’ll learn that an experienced and skilled player can make even the simplest faceroll builds dangerous.
The result – a bearbow standing over your toon’s body, while you nerd rage in disbelief.

400 gems for a single mini is far too expensive. Mini 3 packs were less expensive than this.

If those in charge of the Gem shop are planning on selling this kitten, and the other two (as unreleased) baby minis for this price – and then spring it on the customers that you need to throw them in the MF to get the (as unreleased) mystic Dragon … well, they better have their sweatervest +5 vs. Pitchforks ready.
The player rage will be extreme.

I just don’t see how they can justify a single mini @ 400gems.

oh, and the Llama finisher … funny and very troll worthy, but I really wish they would keep it at least GW2 themed. A Llama seems very random, unless I’m missing an inside joke or something.

Oh well, I guess you live and learn (specifically, you learn which companies’ products to never buy again).

You are assuming that you will never, ever see another item placed in the shop that you will like.
Sit on the gems you get from your refund. You don’t need to spend them right away.

But why do I get better loot from Frozen Maw (3-4 rares) than from Lyssa (1 rare)? Other temples don’t even require 3-place coordination to succeed.

And yes, I’m drowning in dragonite and everyone can get it from other temples as well.

I would argue that the opening of the Karma vendor and access to the goods at Lyssa would be far more valuable than a few extra rare items from frozen Maw.

The late Ewart Oakeshott probably did the best and most extensive work in creating a typology for western historical swords.
Many artists refer to his work when designing their own blades (either forging or drawing).
I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the artists at ArenaNet have a few of his books on their desks that they use for inspiration (and if they don’t, they should).

There is one ‘great sword’ skin you can use that I think will be what you are looking for. The Dark Vine Karma sword from the heart vendor near Falis Thorpe (sp?) waypoint has it. I believe the basic white greatsword skin from vendors is similar/same to this.
The blade is shorter than the ‘typical’ Great sword, and the cross is more blunted.

I was in the same mindset as the OP, so I did some searching around. This was the best I could come up with. It actually looks pretty good when used with my human Ranger.

Sold ‘The Hunter’ after it dropped from the Karka Event back in November 2012. At the time, Legendary items were still ‘new’ and the debate over the value of their precursors was still going on.
I ended up selling it for 55 gold, which at the time was still a princely sum.
Since then, I have not seen any precursor drop, and have turned my focus/gold on to purchasing and collecting very rare/limited skins instead.

That’s a terrible argument. Just because GW1 still exists (despite the fact that it’s relatively dead and has no content updates anymore) means we can’t have things which we miss? I probably like GW2 more than GW1, does that mean i should suddenly go play GW1 instead just because it has a couple of features which i miss in GW2?

This is not about wanting GW2 to become GW1. This thread is about wanting certain features from GW1 to return to GW2, which is entirely understandable considering it’s a sequel to GW1.

Actually, look again at the title of this thread.
It states/asks “things I miss about Guild Wars”, not “What Guild Wars Features do you want in GW2” or the like.
My response is apt based on that context. You can’t miss something, if it’s not gone.

To the implied topic at hand – A feature from GW1 that I wish could be implemented into GW2 would be the ‘hiring’ of NPC’s to assist with Dungeon runs for the solo player.
I would love to to do more Dungeons, unfortunately as a father of three small children, my attention is often called away during my gaming time. As I don’t wish to inconvenience other players out with a sudden absence, my dungeoneering is often few and far between.
NPC’s would be a nice addition for the players and a legitimate form of money sink.

It’s funny that the human race actually has two cities.

Makes sense when looking at the lore of Tyria.
Humans from Ascalon and Krytans were distinct and separate cultures. Only with the events of the last 250 years did these cultures ‘mash’ together for survival in D.R. ( including exiled Canthans and Elonian peoples).
I think it was a good choice of the writers to develop the city of Ebonhawke allowing for the last remnants of the Ascalon born humans to exist. Ebonhawke is a city of survivors, and it’s reflected quite well in design and feel. It makes sense.

What really chafes my backside in this whole thing is that this new system has obviously has been worked on for some time (the dev’s actually said so).
Despite the changes to the town clothes to costume system being developed and the limitations that arose from it, Anet still happily went ahead and provided Town clothes in the store that they knew were going to have a radical departure from the product that was originally marketed and sold.
They even went so far as to provide a sale for some of these items during the month of March, knowing that in a week or two they would announce that the item up for sale would be changed (i.e. pirate outfit)

Finally, they have the gall to say they will not refund customers gems/money for these town clothes turned outfits (although in fairness, they will for items turned tonics – As they should).

I would have thought more would have turned out to voice there opinion about this change. Maybe most players don’t bother to read the update news? Guess we will find out when the patch is released. Considering how many players there are, 700+ comments seems low by comparison, to me anyway.

But I think what you are forgetting is that for every person that takes the time to come to the forums and post, there are XX times as many people that either:
1) not yet taken the time to read the blog post or may not regularly visit the webpage (even though the link is in the log in screen, some folks can’t be bothered. * I know that a number of my guild mates had no clue about these changes until I directed them to the website.
2) Feel that there is no point in taking time to post, as this is a corporate decision that is already been made and posting will have little to no effect. These folks will ‘vote with their wallet’ and simply stop or limit their purchasing from the store here on out

Don’t mistake silence for compliance, acceptance, or apathy.
I was once told that if one person takes the time to write a complaint = 100 people who are of the same mindset but don’t for a variety of reasons.

The armour/weapon side of the wardrobe is great. I have no complaints with it.
This town clothes issue is something else though.

I don’t understand why they have to lock the costumes into their original form as a one piece and apparently remove the dye option.
I bought several town clothes sets for my characters because there was at least one piece that made me go “cool” (toys excluded).
I have come up with several nice alternative looks that I have happily worn around the cities on my character’s ‘down time’.
Now this ability will not only be gone, but if I choose to use these skins I’m forced into the generic ‘pirate’, Winter’s Day, Mad King, etc. look. I can’t even dye them.

No, with this aspect of the wardrobe they have taken a huge step back.

What could have been a Premier new Feature has now been soured by this decision and the ill will it has created.
I suggest that Anet looks to games like, DCUO, Rift, etc. to see how successful (and profitable) wardrobe systems could be implemented.

I understand, that you have to appeal to all little humans, who hated scarlet…. But why no choice for a people with a heart?

Uh huh?

I believe a mistake that several people have made here is directly comparing Human anatomy to Norn anatomy.
Humans and Norn are only superficially similar. By nature of their development, their skin (hide) is thicker, their muscle and Bone density higher. In short, their environment guided their development into 8 foot tall Mac Trucks.

The second assumption that people are making (which has been covered), is that with everything being equal, both individuals should take proportionate amount of damage.
This is simply not true. Sometimes people just get ‘lucky’ and are able to avoid the worst of the most horrific accidents.
In short, Braham ‘won’ the RNG lotto, Marjory lost.
