AP doesn’t signify skill. All it does is show that you likely have an understanding of basic mechanics.
This
I have over 18,000 HP, I doubt very much anyone would consider me pro.
AP, not HP… Lord…
Players with high AP are either:
- hunting achievements (i.e living world completionist and regular completionist)
- Playing all aspects of the game on a regular basis
- Play much more than they should one single aspect of the game (grind AP though one single activity)As far as I can see, nobody can conclude ANYTHING about dungeon running skill from the level of AP. AP is earned everwhere in this game, so high level of AP means you play a lot. That’s it.
It’s a bad habit of elite wannabe who want to ape recordmen speed clearers and try to feel good by imposing AP requirements on the LFG. They are just too lazy to teach people how to do dungeons so they are filtering.
No. You might get surprised but the highest source of AP is getting your Daily done and playing the game over time. Players with high AP, as said before, have been around enough time to understand basics and know what to do in most dungeons paths.
Problem with new players is that they don’t say they’re new and they might be lvl 80 but don’t know what’s going on around them and don’t ask for directions/instructions because they’re afraid of being kicked out. This results in a slow/painful experience in dungeons where you must have a basic understanding and a minimum concentration. Also, being under lvl 80 will always mean lack of dps.
What you can do is join/create parties where you specify “No speed – First timers – All lvls welcome- Learning”. Or just run with friends/guildies, with no presure.
If you’re not willing to do this please go and watch one of the hundreds of youtube guides that are made for EVERY dungeon path and keep getting updated.
I thought most hardcore sylvari would be Sasha Greyleaf
I feel ashamed for getting the joke.
Often seen with most hardcore norn ranger Tori Blackwolf
Sword dps is actually almost equal to staff
Wut????
I thought most hardcore sylvari would be Sasha Greyleaf
Another idea is to substitute Save Yourselves for Hold The Line. Hold The Line grants Stability, which is often more valuable than what Save Yourselves offers. It also is a stun break, but on a way shorter CD.
Think you mean Stand your Ground and not HTL. But agreed, way more useful.
To the OP please tell us what you intend to do with the build (solo roaming?, group roaming?, zerging?) Seems to me you’re trying to combine too many things, I would recommend to focus on what role you would like to play and feel comfortable with: Do you want to roam and chase enemies? Go Zerker/Knight equip with meditations and traveler runes. Do you want to play as a healer (well , kinda healer) on a small roaming group? Go cleric equipment with shouts and trooper runes. Do you want to run with the zerg as a frontline bunker? Go Soldier/Sentinnel equip with consecrations and shouts with Dolyak runes + a good video card on your PC.
With your current build crit chance is way too low and not even fury will make it get to 50%. With 40% crit (what you get with fury) you’re gonna crit 4 times for every 10 hits. Also, I would pick Superior Aria over Wrathful Spirit even if you’re only using 1 shout, really worth it.
Now for weapons I would suggest changing one of them for GS. With meditations GS synergize with SW/F. With the 2 handed mastery trait your’e taking you might want to try GS-H. Energy sigils are one of the best choices but I suggedt to go with Force sigil on a set, you can’t turn your back on a permanent 5% dmg bonus.
TL;DR What I’m trying to tell the OP is that he can try everything before crafting ascended equipment that is a HUGE investment. Find what role he likes, then go and focus on it.
Basically taken down because I didn’t blur out his name, I was kicked from a SE party because I had a go at this elementalist not stacking might or using LH, just spamming scepter auto, I asked him, why aren’t you using LH and stacking might because scepter auto is bad. He then replied im a pro and don’t need to listen to you, his friend then backed him up by saying all eles are for are fgs and nothing else. I didn’t say anything until p3 afterwards when they called me a noob guardian and I asked why, they said you use GS and its bad, they then kicked me from P3 and because I only have 1 legendary on this character the dude decided to ping his 6 and call me a noob for using GS, he then blocked me so I couldn’t reply to him
Don’t pay attention, the other day I was on a similar situation with a kitten that was angry because he was the only one who ran to face tank the Ghost Eater at the end of AC path 2. He said we were all afraid of aggro without realizing you have to set at least one trap before being abble to deal any damage. I obviously told him to learn to do things properly, we finished the dungeon, he wrote me a wall of text I didn’t even bothered reading and then blocked me.
This game is getting filled with morons, nothing in common with the community 1 year ago; too many people thinking they are “good” because they’ve seen a couple videos on youtube.
Being elitist is more justified than ever. 8k AP, full zerker, ping gear, or not wasting my time running a dungeon with you.
Guardians are bottom of the pack DPS-wise, but can tank and heal for England. Conditions give them a bit of extra damage, and their control and sustain are weak.
I think I’, playing a different game, Guardians have one of the highest sustained DPS of the game.
I don’t like to sound like an kitten but if you like trinity there are a lot of games out there that still have tank-dps-healer systems, you can go try them.
GW2 needs some class balance IMO but not regarding PVE.
Troll is now Chuck Norris and shall be known as Troll Norris from now on.
You guys do realize that’s Obal’s DPS build right? (written all over youtube comments).
Think he should give him at least some credit.
necros get sharknado
This
SICK OF IT. THIS PART OF THE QUESTLINE IS REDICULOUS.
You get cranky when you are a little tipsy, don’t you?
For me and for some others is pretty much convinient to use bananas to scale. That way everyone understands what size you’re refering without excluding any metric system.
Would love if Asuras start saying “I feel 8 bananas tall”
It sure sounds like one.
I think you might have some serious gastrointestinal problems, better go get checked by a physician.
Merge with Blizzard?
Hell no, good God save us from that.
I would drop judge’s intervention, as you already are using Traveler Runes and have leap of faith on the GS and flasing blade on your sword to prevent enemies from running. Purging Flames is great for condition cleansing and would recommend to trait Master of Consecrations in the vitue trait line.
Anyway my real advice would be to try to change your gear for berserker/knight mix or full zerker if you’re gonna focus on 1v1 roaming. A dead oponent can’t apply conditions on you and guardians, no matter what armor they use, have a low base HP, what makes us weak agains conditions (Toughness=endure bursting dmg and Vitality=endure Condition dmg). Most Necros and Engis fall real fast.

This rose has thongs… And here they are!
1) Have more random events in dungeons like troll in AC. Doing such events would give better rewards as players are investing more time to comlplete the dungeon, dungeons should be exciting on every run!
2) Add new armor skins, more theme oriented like rennaissance and streampunk (no, not those meh aetherblade armors)
3) Dueling in PvP
4) Have the possibility to make your Charr look like they did in GW1
5) WvW should be more tactic. To make this allies, in WvW maps would be more impotant and they could be summoned by commanders when they’re needed. There should be terrains that give bonuses to certain classes and penalties to others i.e. Open battle gives a toughness bonus to guardians and warriors but battling in a marsh gives them a moving penalty because of heavy armor.
6) New zones to explore, the behind the enemy lines maps are my favourite, with difficult content.
7) Scavenge hunt to craft a precursor (got mine through RNG in the MF but have friends that have been playing for a longer time than me and still got no precursor).
My guardian just hit 80. I’m looking for suggestions for a build that’s good for solo PvE content. I don’t generally PvP but would like to pug a dungeon now and then. Mostly I’d like a solid, survivable combination I can use to see the rest of the world content.
I’ve leveled easily with GS / Sword+Focus but found 75-80 getting increasingly difficult, mostly due to squishiness and knockdowns. I’m running with 25/15/0/20/10 and a grab bag of Berserker’s and Knight’s gear.
I’m sure I can improve what I’ve got and would be grateful for tips on how to optimize. Thanks!
Since you’re already accustomed to those weapons, Brazil’s old build 0/30/0/30/10 with as much berserker stuff as possible will be a good starter build. It offers good damage, gameplay very similar to the meta builds and still retains a bigger HP cushion for errors than the meta. When you feel comfortable with that after some time, switch to the meta.
Oh, and don’t take the paladin build. That one is garbage and just promotes bad play.
I won’t even go there, think everybody is sick of the same discussion on every thread about builds, so kudos to you for stating the obvious I guess.
To the OP: If you are used to this game and have played other classes yeah, probably full Zerker with the meta will work. On the other hand, if this is your frist lvl 80 and (as I suspect) and you’re in need of a a solid, survivable combination and you feel the game like getting increasingly difficult, mostly due to squishiness I woould suggest to try the paladin build.
Overall for me (running triple meditation with zerker gear) it would be:
GreatSword 5/5 best we have, every skill is useful (to me)
Focus 4.5/5 best off-hand, combines defense and offense, gives you blocks, heals, removes conditions, the whole package
Sword 4/5 DPS choice would be 5 if #3 wasn’t rooted
Hammer 4/5 Most versatile, great for CC thou lack of DPS makes it a 4
Staff 3/5 (haven’t used it since I got runes of the Traveler) Nice for WvW tagging and AH builds. Disposable if you’re running with Traveler runes (again, this is my experience)
Shield 2.5/5 Anet change that #4 skill, it just blows (literrally)
Mace 2/5 I know lot of people like it, but I don’t. Guess it can be great for a healway build.
Torch 1.5/5 cooldowns take too long, low dps, slow skill activation. It gets 1.5 because, if wielded correctly, it can make you look like Indiana Jones.
Hi there. Well from what you’re asking I would suggest to have both, Knight and Zerker armor sets and run the one that fits each situation with the following build:
0/15/30/20/5
No, I didn’t invent that build, people around here call it the Paladin build and a lot of guardians that just hit 80 use it (pretty nice for PVE and pugging dungeons). depending on the situation you can be tanky or go for DPS.
The good thing about this build is that you will be running 2 sets of armor and, with a quick respec, you can change your role in a party.
1. Boon Duration / Support-Kinda Tanky (Knight set)
Runes: 2 Superior runes of the Water , 2 Superior runes of the Monk and 2 major runes of Sanctuary (be sure to get one on the helmet, so the rune on your breather would be also cheap). This will give you +40% boon duration +5% from the Virtues line. If you have spare money you can get runes of the Traveler instead of Sanctuary for +5% boon duration.
Skills:
Healing: Signet of resolve
Utilities: Stand your ground, Retreat and Hold the Line.
Elite: Renewed Focus
Traits:
15 Radiance: Blind Exposure (VI) Combined with Justice is Blind and Renewed Justice, this will get you spamming Virtue of justice (thereby, spaming Blind, Burn, Vulnerability and giving yourself Might).
30 Valor: Purity (V) Will be for removing conditions, this will work good alongside Signet of Resolve. Retributive Armor (VI) Will improve your precision from your main stat, toughness. Altruistic Healing (XI) will keep you healing yourself over time and allow you to face tank in some situations.
20 Honor: Superior Aria (II) for shouts recharging faster. Two-handed Mastery (IX) as you will be using 2 handers with this build.
5 Virtues: To get Inspired Virtue that will help you dealing damage with VoJ and give some survivability.
Weapons: Hammer and Staff (Valkyrie) with sigils of Force and Energy. This Weapons will improve healing yourself.
2. Zerker Set, DPS (not full thou)
Runes: 6 Scholar
Skills:
Healing: Shelter
Utilities: Judge’s Intervention, Contemplation of Purity and Smite Condition
Elite: Renewed Focus or Tome of Wrath
Traits:
15 Radiance: Blind Exposure (VI) Combined with Justice is Blind and Renewed Justice, this will get you spamming Virtue of justice (thereby, spaming Blind, Burn, Vulnerability and giving yourself Might).
30 Valor: Meditation Mastery (I). Focused Mind (X). Monk’s Focus (XII) to improve your Meditations and your damage now that you will get Fury everytime you use a Meditation.
20 Honor: Pure of Heart (VI) if you’re having problems with survivability or Resolute Healer (V) for casting Shield of Absorption everytime you revive someone (cooler than what it sounds). Empowering Might (VIII) To get you and your allies Might each time you land a critical, improving your DPS.
5 Virtues: To get Inspired Virtue that will help you dealing damage with VoJ and give some survivability.
Weapons: Great Sword (Zerker) with Sigil of Force and Sword/Focus (Zerker) With Sigil of Accuracy and Battle.
As you see, with a quick change of gear and traits on the go (without going to LA, just with respec) you can have a DPS or a boon duration/tanky guardian. This build Helped me a lot while getting adapted to play this class. Run a lot of Fractals and go for full Zerker ascended trinkets. As you get more comfortable you can go for full Zerker and use the meta build that everybody here will recommend, in the meantime this build is quite fun, has lots of survivability, is not monotone and can deal some decent DPS.
Have fun and see you in the battlefields!

Thank you for the feedback guys. I must confess that I was tempted by the 3 indian princes idea but I already gave my bank account details to a widow who’s gonna donnate me $2’000.000 she got from her dead husband! I mean, I got Dawn and now this, how fourtunate Am I?
Cheers.
Well yesterday I hit the jackpot: 4 rare Greatswords in the Mystic Forge, Bang! Dawn comes out.
After all the excitment I come to realize… I’ve always wanted the Twilight Legendary, not Sunrise. This is mainly because of the dye set I have (Abyss, Red and White Gold).
So, what would be the smart move here? Sell Dawn, to get Dusk, losing gold in the TP? Or just aim now for Sunrise? I know that the loadstone/core prices “compensate” (Charged>Onyx) the precursor price but if I still go for Twilight would I be losing a big amount of gold?
I’m satisfied with Shield of Absorption (#5), in fact I like it so much have it traited in Honor to pop everytime I’m reviving someone. But I always run around with my focus because Shield # 4 is useless I mean, has that skill ever saved someone from something? Changed the course of a battle? It’s just a frontal fart that gives protection (duration scales down in pvp on top of everything) and hits for really low dmg.
Shield #4 needs some rethinking, mixing offense and defense in 1 skill didn’t work. It’s horrible and I have a Guild Tower shield that goes along with my Roman Legionnaire themed Guardian but I can’t use it because of that useless skill.
Hello fellow guardians.
I’m 100% against meditation skills granting fury boon. You ask why?
The reason is simple, we’ve always wanted an easier access to swiftness boon. I think landing a full mace or sword chain attack on a kitting/running enemy is absolutely more dps than having fury and missing every single attack on them, and swiftness will grant you that, plus I feel lucky enough with 40% or so critical chance, why the overkill?
We all know that guardian is a slow profession compared to other professions, a decent swiftness source is sufficient to solve the problem in my opinion. Keep in mind that guardians don’t have access to chill/cripple conditions which makes chasing after running enemies even a harder task, even with the teleports we have.
What do you guys would favor, fury or swiftness?
Rákan, blackgate server.
Sorry but no.
Urge to kill rising! > Eat my Dust!
If you want to level fast just explore the maps of your level, if you want to know what are those maps visit http://gw2cartographers.com/ completing hearts, discovering POI, vistas and revealing the map all give you very good experience and if you complete a map you will get a chest (this includes exploring the 5 main cities). Alternate this with your personal story, always have the story adjusted to your level.
If you join a guild you can run 2 dungeons at lvl 40: AC and CM, those will boost you xp aswell but problem is there aren’t many players out there willing to run the dungeons with people who aren’t lvl 80 (that’s why you should join a guild).
Plot: The Drumand Priory discovers that the only way to end with the King Adelbern’s curse is to have a human king reclaim Ascalon. A human of the Adelbern’s bloodline starts a campaign to claim the throne of Ascalon and give the suffering ghosts the final rest.
Game changes: The whole Ascalonian map becomes an open pvp world for lvl 80 players as long as the event goes on. Norn, Asura and Sylvari can join 1 of 3 options: Support humans, support Charr or stay neutral (no pvp).
Open world events would change to match the event, players supporting human side won’t be abble to interact with Charr NPC’s (this includes selling, quests, events, etc.)
Outcome: The final event would be the siege of the Black Citadel. The amount of siege weapons and npc allies fighting for each side would be determined by the number of pvp kills and the number of completed events of each side. The curse won’t end if the humans win, it was all a trick okitteng Adelbern to grow his ghostly army and avenge the original fall of Ascalon.
didn’t stand there and LET them apply 20 stacks of bleed to me.
If you play with SY and melee you’re gonna get the bleed stacks of the other party members cause you’re gonna draw them to you, thou if you were in zerker gear it’s not likely to use SY. I didn’t LET Mai Trin give me 20 stacks, I GOT them intentionally.
Aswell the thread said what has the dungeon taught YOU, it’s childish to think everyone can have the same experience. If you had an efficient run with full zerker good for you, people who runs similar setup might want to lookup in this thread for what you have to say, but not everyone is gonna agree with you and that’s what so cool about this game: Diversity.
For the german guy who says that has no friends, well that sucks. Thou I think what we all meant for friend is the people that appear on the list when you press the Y hotkey, not your lifetime blood-pact friend who grew up with you.
yeh 99% of people aren’t going to waste time paying gold for runes and tinkering with traits. it’s like would you retune a car every time you went for a drive? no. it’s annoying.
Well I have different sets of armor for different situations, happens that my PVT set has boon duration runes. Now I really think some group condition removal as PoV is essential for the final fight, I took 20 bleeding stacks at some point. It’s what helped me and my party, you might aswell have a different experience. As I said I had a dps focused team (1 warrior, 2 eles and 1 thief)
Now if someone has gear/setup/build that is good all around and serves every purpose and situation, please share it =D
the 2 builds I’ve always seen Guardians use.
There is something else than AH?
I would say that there are, at least, 3 main builds:
AH build and it’s variations
Triple meditation build (with Monk’s Focus)
Boon duration
On topic.
Taught me that you better run this dungeon with guildies/friends and you can have a smooth run if you use ven/skype for constant communication. I’ve finished the dungeon and, I will never pug it. as somebody said, you will get more bad than good, rage quitters, people that won’t listen, don’t speak english amongst others.
I’ve learned that guardian is a MUST for final fight (or at least, it will make everyone’s life easier), I had to reset my skills to get PoV, went with 0/0/30/30/10 full PVT armor, mace/shield and boon duration runes. Worked like a charm, we had very high DPS (except for me, naturally).
This dungeon teaches you to be aware of your surroundings (Lab fight), be aware of the conditions your teammates get, of their health, the foes attacks (final fight).
Finally, the dungeon let’s you prove once again guardian’s vertality, this class kicks some serious butt!
As a native from TC I have to say this
