What about other specializations?

NumenorLord.6539

It’s been said that specializations will play a similar role that Sencondary Professions played in GW1. We already have the DH spec that’s inspired in Ranger. Let’s throw some ideas for the other traitlines (no names to avoid controversy).

ZEAL: Inspired by Warrior, Axe mainhand. Focus on stacking vulnerability on enemies and melee combat.

RADIANCE: Inspired by Mesmer, offhand Sword. Focus on teleports and interrupts.

VALOR: Inspired by Elementalist, offhand Dagger. Focus on heals and blinds.

VITALITY: Inspired by Necromancer, offhand Warhorn. Focus on dazing and life stealing.

VIRTUES: Inspired by Engineer, no new weapon but Guardian gets reworked kits that are holy artifacts. Focus on boon duration and immobilizing.

This will leave no specs for Revenant and Thief, maybe each profession will have a counter profession or new lines can be added as they did with DH.

So what are your ideas? What would you like to see?

Anyway Necro is not intended to play as support, it’s more selfish playstyle as far as I know.

Which has typically made Necro the worst pve class in any sort of “serious” play.

Saying Anet hates Guardians is dumb when Necro’s have it a lot worse and , as of now, nothing about Reaper looks to change that. Tomorrow could change that, but by the sounds of it Necro still isn’t getting much in the ways of support.

Agreed.

They aready have Well of Power for stability (they can stand on it). Anyway, stability is not a requirement for melee classes even if you’re hitting slowly (Hammer Guardian).

Except it applies 1 second of stability, and that’s it. It does not pulse stability like Hallowed Ground.

Yeah it’s more used as stun breaker and it gives stability to ensure you can cast with no interruptions. Anyway Necro is not intended to play as support, it’s more selfish playstyle as far as I know.

Hammer Guards in pvp do have Stability. You get it traited. They also have other ways to avoid stuff, like blinds, blocks, and invuln skills. Plus they bring team support.

I was refering to PvE. Anyway Necro already has and uses stability in lot of PvP builds (Plague for stomping, Lich or have traited Foot in the Grave).

I do wonder if the elite necro spec will get a stand your ground type shout, maybe stability intensity and length based on number of targets hit with some condition from the shout.

I don’t think we’re hated, just that we asked for what we got. If you look through oler posts you’ll see a lot of complaining about:
1. Ranged combat and how easy is to kite a guardian in PvP
2. Lack of conditions because we only have access to burn and blind (vulnerability if traited on symblos and blinds).

Yeah, Reaper and Chronomancer look awsome and I’m really looking forward playing with my Necro again while equipping Twilight (Guardian is my main). But you have to know that Mesmer and Necromancer are two of the most looked down professions PvE-wise and are not even part of the current Meta party structure.

Guardians will still be awsome in PvE (nobody will have active defenses as us AND bring good DPS), DH will be a boost for PvP and for WvW roaming, it’s time to really have some more variety in PvE.

I don’t know what you mean by cheesy but maybe you need more practice/watch people who is good with the build (Phantaram streams medi guadian sometimes).

Thief is an easy fight if you manage to survive their first burst (blocks, invul) if you can get them inside your ring of warding it’s an insta death for them. For Necro time your condition cleanses, follow them with scepter and burst with hammer when you manage yo immobilize them.

Maybe oyu’re not using the right build here it is
http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Guardian_-_Meditation_Hammer

Keep in mind that scepter is a must, if you’re using something as Sword or GS you might feel Medi Guard lacking mobility and easy to kite.

Achron

Ok we keep the bow, even the skills sound fine. I admit I likethe virtues change, would only change the spear for a flaming arrow to fit the theme.

NO TRAPS instead of them the Achron specializes in Spirit Weapons that help him keep his enemies at bay, while he deals damage and supports his teammates.

Trait line Specialization may include Spirit Weapons siphoning health from enemies, Increased Damage, Spirit Weapon Holy Explosion when they are destroyed and, in the Grand Master Traits, the abilyty to weild any Spirit Weapon you have summoned for a short period of time. Each weapon has a new set of skills much like the conjured weapons from elementalists.

Furthermore, people who chooses to play guardian, do it because they usually dislike what Traps represent.

I think you have a very valid point there and this is one of the best opinions I’ve read so far. A trapper, a sneaky character is not what I wanted to play when I chose Guardian. I want to be in the frontline, if I get to use a longbow it will be to chase my enemies who are fleeing from me.I want to play a Paladin-like class, not a low life scoundrel!

Ranger is the class I like the less from the game, never liked ranged combat. Bit early to say it’s goin to be a ranger copy/paste but I think they’re trying to maske support more appealing as right now there’s no difference between the support a full cleric Guardian vs a full zerker Guardian and people prefer the last one because it deals damage and is usually traited for more active defenses than AH builds.

Will the Dragonhunter be the new dungeon underdog? I, mean heals+ranger you can’t get any worst… Only time and HoT release will tell us.

Could be fun for PvP thou^^

how long did it take for you to be decent

in Guardian

NumenorLord.6539

Depends on what you call decent.

Guardian has one of the lowest health pools in the game so staying alive has to do with 2 things even when you hit lvl 80:

1. The ability to use you active defenses and to time dodges. The only way to learn is to repeat the content and ask for advice, learn to read the attacks from mobs and bosses and not rushing to use all your dodges/virtues/reflects/blocks/cleanses at once.

2. As you have one of the lowest health pools you depend on having a good party to run content with and by good party I mean people who has high dps and kills stuff fast. I run dungeons and fotm with a group of 4-5 metabuild users and I always run with my Guardian and things go pretty smooth. when I pug with my Guard total different story, now I prefer to pug with my PS Wrrior or my Ele.

Is this for PvE? Thought it was for WvW. Just to point something out with all due respect: Why do you need so much toughness and healing (AH) if you’re using ranged weapons? If you want ongoing healing with AH you use hammer, do A LOT more damage and give permanent protection (even more tnakiness) to you and your party. Something that gets on evberybody’s nerve is having a camping staff guardian in their party, check this thread

PvE-wise, this is my humble opinion:

[Suggestion] Outfits and Armor Pieces

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

NumenorLord.6539

One big reason this probably won’t happen; framework is different from heavy to med to light armor. That is also why there is very little chance we will ever see light being able to use heavy etc. This means A-net would have to make 3 versions of the same armor to allow it to be skin able onto the various armor types.

I see your point. What if outfits are classified in heavy, medium and light armor too? That means that any class can use Balthazar’s Regalia but only heavy classes would be abble to equip Balthazar’s Regalia Shoulders, for example.

[Suggestion] Outfits and Armor Pieces

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: NumenorLord.6539

NumenorLord.6539

Personally I like the outfits but will also love to mix them up and I understand why some people won’t buy the outfits (looking as everyone else, no creativity etc.)

What I suggest is that each outfit piece should be able to become an armor piece if the player is willing to spend a transmutation charge in the process (this won’t grant the transmution of the player’s armor, only that the outfit piece will be unlocked in the wardrobe) then the player will have spend another transmutation charge if he wants to equip the piece.

Benefits will go both sides, sellings of Outfits and transmutation charges (therefore, Gems) will rise, players who like outfits as they are will continue to buy them and players who like to mix and match armor will have the armor pieces from outfits that they like the most.

What do you guys think?

I think it’s a bad idea if the goal is to make people go for build diversity, as zerker users will only party with other zerkers, making things die fast reduces the human error thereby the chances to die. Being a meta build user in PvE for quite some time I can tell you that very often I’ve found that I can survive longer than people geared with full Soldier, Sentinnel, Nomad and similar gear. Zerker makes you pay attention and learn the mechanics of the mobs and bosses, people who like to play as punching bags end up in the floor very often because, even if you heal, block or regenerate, fights last for longer periods of time (more chances to screw up) and there are monsters that will 1-hit you, no matter how much Vit, Tough, HP you have.

May I brighten your post with the Holy Trinity of DPS prayer (credits to FenrirSlakt.3692):

May Power, the Father grant you His Might to rain death in the form of large numbers on top of your enemies.
May Precision, the Son, with His Fury guide your blades into the flimsiest of their armor.
Though fallen, may Ferocity, the Holy Spirit, imbue you and magnify the virtues of both, the Father and the Son, so that your blows may fall heavy on your foes taking on the shape of more hard-hitting crits.
Spared and blessed be the followers of the Assassin that, though slightly bent on their ways, share our vision of smooth and efficient speedruns.
May you never degenerate and fall and be led astray to the misguided ways of the Rampager, or the nefarious path of the Soldier, or the wretched lanes of the Rabid.
May your faith in the Berserker never falter, your Fury never quenched, and your Might always stacked to 25.
For Great Justice!
Amen.

I’m gonna log this night (working atm) if you want I’ll run the story mode with you (I’ll PM you). You can make your own LFG being specific and posting something like Story mode 1st time watching CS

What happens is that most people run story mode so they can open the dungeon on new charactes, so they want to go as fast as they can because most of them already know the content and have already seen the CS.

Cleric guard will make runs go slower because of the lack of DPS. Something in between is not achievable you won’t deal the proper DPS and healing power will decrease compared to full Cleric. Yeah you’ll hit harder but very far from optimal and maximum damage.

If you want to try it go ahead but you’ll be wasting gold, time and crafting materials IMHO.

Staff is a WvW weapon for tagging, might stacking is something that PS warrior Eles and even Engies will do in way a more effectiveway, heal (#2) is weak and swiftness… For what? Any weapon is superior to staff talking PvE wise.

Truth be told, it’s hard to see a healing guardian as something different to a leecher while running on a full zerker party but, to each his own, if you have fun playing it and it suits your party and your friends are OK with it just go for it. Now healing+ optimal damage won’t be a thing you’ll be able to achieve, at least for the moment.

Hi

Well I don’t get the point of having Precision with no Ferocity, even if you crit you won’t be making a lot more damage. Staff is an awful PvE weapon just don’t use it. Now you say you like to support but you must know that every class can survive without your healings through all the PvE scenarios, even FotM lvl 50. Guard is not a must and, most certainly, healing guardian is not a must in any party.

If you don’t like to go zerker I recommend trying to mix Knight and Valkyrie gear with Obal’s Hammer build for fractals, you’ll be doing way more damage and granting constant protection that is more supportive than heals from a full clreic spec. Learn to use your active defenses (blinds, reflects, aegis).

If you still want to go full support don’t PUG or at least warn your party fellows that you’ll be playing the wet noodle build.

PVP and WvW: Again skill #5 is helpful because of the knockback, I guess #4 can help bunker builds but Focus is way better because of the 3 blocks, Dmg and blinds.

What would make Shield a good offhand weapon: Just like the Ascalonian Adventurer, we should have access to Fiery Block (stance for 3 seconds blocking and inflicting Burning for 3 seconds to attackers). # 5 can stay the same.

You might want to run with Axe/Warhorn for the extra dodges you get with Vigor at first. There are 2 things you’re gonna need for doing a decent TA run: Someone to destroy the blossoms and a way to skip annoying content that’s not necessary for the dungeon completion (stealth, swiftness). Stability also helps a lot because some mobs might knock you down. So basically Guardiand thief helps a lot but are not a must.

Now, most important is to run with people who knows what they’re doing and have a good DPS. The dungeon is not hard… Arah is not hard (just very long in some paths)a ll the content becomes easy if you and you’re party know what they’re doing.

Yes just Quit.

Kidding. As I see it this happened because you’re playing one of the lamest ways you can play a ranger (bearbow). My advice is to either become a decent ranger (you know, spotter, melee weapons etc.) or start a new character with a more entertaining class.
I doubt that you’ve explored all of Tyria, even if you’re not crafting a legendary I recommend you to do it because it’s one of the funniest things I’ve done in a game, design, landscape and details are just great.

You don’t use you PVE gear for PVP, once you are in the Mists you get to chose an amulet, runes and sigils, so I think you haven’t just tried it, you might have fun if shooting arrows is what you like.

Maybe this is not the game for you, world is really open and nobody will tell you what to do once you’re 80. Some get into legendaries, some others into character looks, some like to have several alts, some like to run dungeons and fractals, some WvW, some just do PvP, some roleplay, some just log for world bosses and/or guild events…
If you’re looking for a goal and “finish the game”, MMORPG are not the place to look for, you might be more comfortable with other kind of 1 player games.
